“The time will come when the world’s injustices and evils become so obvious and repressive, that those who seek justice and peace will have no choice but erupted in unified fury and rage, bringing forth a new world” – Nurcan Taylan, Eternal Father of the Union, 1928.
To many in the Ankoreni regime the world seems to be on the verge of reckoning, a great transformation, a new age for all mankind. To them, the time has come for a new world, one of equality between nations and peoples, one that would see all nations have an equal stake and voice in the world’s direction and not a gaggle of viciously selfish and decadent powers.
That new world would take the shape of four nations, untied in a common goal of self-preservation through cooperation and mutual respect. The “Indomitable Four”, the idea however wasn’t solely the work of Estanban, it was the shared effort of Ankoren and Teutonia, which had become closer with each passing month. The other two members were obvious choices; Koyro and Xiaodong.
One, a possible superpower if it “sorted itself out” and the other, a victim, a prisoner, a plaything of the Ainin of the Orient. Ankoren had a great affinity for Xiaodong, a nation that shared so much in the world, it was well known within the regime that the Xiaodongese aspired to be like Ankoren; free, developing and strong and Ankoren was more than eager to help them achieve that.
In truth, many in the regime viewed Xiaodong as Ankoren of the 1920s, surrounded and abused, desperate yet deserving of independence. Though, they recognised the Xiaodongese predicament when it came to Tuthina.
The biggest concern for the regime was Koyro, the ultimate and last obstacle between the Union and its greatest success in Irvadistan – unification. Despite the rumours by the intelligentsias of the liberal nations that Ankoren and Koyro were constantly on the verge of conflict, it was not the case. Ankoren had no wish to war upon Koyro, had no wish to send its sons to die fighting a nation that had more to give as an ally than a foe. But deep down in the belly of the regime, war was an option. It is hoped, that this summit and this grouping would allow for a peaceful solution to the Irvadi Question, one that would secure Koy interests and Ankoren’s hunger for revolutionary progress, but also strengthen the bonds between Estanban and Ansyu.
And so, today it would be, the founding of the “I4”, the group would meet regularly to discuss global issues, including security, the global economy, ways of expanding cooperation in all fields and naturally how to change the world order to be beneficial to all nations, regardless of ideology or political system.
Altın Sarayı, Estanban
14th April 2017
The venue for this auspicious summit was always going to be the Altın Sarayı, the great palace of the former Sultans. It was used as the residence for the State President of the Union, until Evren Volkan had the Taylan Sarayı constructed on the outskirts of Estanban, a true modern marvel that makes him the envy of the world, or at least that was justification for its $1.8 billion price tag.
Since the move to the Taylan Sarayı, the Altın Sarayı had since become the set piece location for summits and special events, such as birthdays for members of the State Council and weddings for senior military officers. But today, the Altın Sarayı would be the day the new world begins to emerge.
Located on the Golden Point, it was magnificent views of the Siyahsu straits, looking out towards the northern half of the city. Its gilded and golden interiors, its vast gardens and its priceless artworks made it a cultural wonder and a fitting monument to imperial grandeur.
The three representatives of the guest nations were granted rooms used by past Sultans, with 24 hour room service, of anything they would wish. They were also permitted free access of the grounds and the global situations room, should an issue arise back home. This was the ultimate gift to the visitors, the palace was theirs as much as it was Volkan’s. For the past two days, every hallway was lined with the four national flags, across the entire Union, main streets were donned with the flags of Ankoren, Koyro, Teutonia and Xiaodong, the entire nation was essentially involved in the summit.
Schools, universities and social clubs were tasked by the state to celebrate the three cultures, Teutonian films, Xiaodongese cuisine and Koy music were on show across the Union. The regime was intent on making sure that the entire nation was firmly positive towards the three guest nations, who with Ankoren, would together usher in the new world.
Evren Volkan has arrived in the Altın Sarayı two days ago, he wanted to be prepared. The entire State Council had followed him, including his wife. They each wished to become versed in the pointers and issues.
For much of the two days Volkan, Prime Minister Akbari, Foreign Minister Hüseyin Dündar, Marşel Burak Güven, State Councillors Erdin Saçan and Aslan Güner and several key figures from the Foreign Ministry had been hidden away in the “Gün Batımı Room” or Sunset Room, devising an answer to the Irvadistan Question. They were positive it would be beneficial enough to the Koy and the Teutonians to end the speculation and worry and hurry the demise of Amin Kamel.
Standing under the columned entrance, Volkan took a deep breath, next to him was Akbari, his black robes and white turban offering some distinction should the guests forget who is who. Akbari’s eyes were surveying the drive way, catching sight of several swallows he smiled.
“Why are you nervous?” Akbari enquired, his gaze unmoved from the small flock of birds.
“Because this will define our time in government Qassem” Volkan replied, turning his head slightly towards his ally and prime minister.
“I have faith God will deliver us success, afterall, us four are the future” Akbari smiled wide, his disarming face and near constant happy disposition always worked to calm the stern and often firey Volkan.
“You always do my friend” Volkan half smiled.
“Just remember, we’re not supposed to be here. You and I were never supposed to reach our positions. We weren’t the party’s first choice and now look at us. We’re the most powerful duo in our nation’s history and you’re worried about this” Akbari spoke softly, his hand gesturing towards the drive way.
“We shall see” Volkan muttered. Now they just had to wait for the guests to arrive.
