Othlikkore, Othlikk System

Torres and the council watched a replay of the Tenebrean raid on the Solon system of Tecion; D-18 missiles firing, explosions echoing from the surface. It was a frightening sight on the other end, to be sure, and it couldn't be timed better. The council applauded upon the end of the clip, and Torres was filled with relief - something he hadn't truly felt since the collapse of the Jub'li government. More ships had been mobilized towards Eccha, this time carrying cheaper but nonetheless equally effective atmospheric forces to continue the bombings, without having to get any boots on the ground. Space defense had mobilized a further 200 Rhea class Cruisers and three Nyx class orbital space stations, in addition to 600 Vulcan class gunships - the powerhouse of the reinforcements. There was a serious concern over how much more they could afford to sacrifice, but Torres knew that they could not falter - on the international stage and in the heartland. There was simply too much at risk, and the glaring truth of the matter was a burden on Torres' mind. He had confided the next steps of the war with his personal cabinet, people he trusted with his life - but not with his nation. Ultimately, he knew, the choice rested on his shoulders, something that weighed down on his soul heavily. There was fear when one's actions were held up high for the nation to see, but Torres knew he had to make the right choice - and there wasn't much time. However, there was the matter of Eccha; glaring, hellish sites like scars on the once-lush planet. The fusion bombardment had certainly done its job, and much of the Solon presence was left in ruins. But there were just too many things that could go wrong. There had been an idea - something one of his junior staff members had thought of - to set up base on one of the uninhabited planets. The Solons were notorious for populating one planet in each system, courtesy to the delicate atmospheric balance they required to survive, and so they would be setting up base. Printerbots were already stringing up stabilized graphene frames on a nearby moon, while a minority of the blockade force had rendezvoused around the base. Things are looking up, he thought.

Vulan 266EX, Eccha System

The Vulcan had approached the proximity of the Isharan Cutter when they detected the Cheknorov radiation. Sending in a droid to scout, they put on their armored hazmat suits and braced themselves. But nothing could prepare them for the blast that hit every muscle as they entered the vessel - though armored, the Cheknorov radiation's side effects cramped muscles and made it painful to move. There was no permanent damage, but it hurt nonetheless. The droid had discovered a female form - an Isharan 'Unbound' - in a tank, and they had drained it. Estimating 2 minutes before the tiberium reactor typical of Isharan vessels blew, the Maldurii soldiers rushed through the drainage and got the hell out of the ship, barely avoiding the fatal zone. As the ship exploded, the blast took out the secondary thruster on the bottom right, but it was nothing they couldn't replace. They docked in the hangar of the Hyperion cruiser in a reserve fleet, one of them carrying the semi-conscious woman over his shoulder, and unlocked the airlock chamber door. Marching through the corridor into the guest vault, she remained there for her fate to be decided.

"State your name." Inquisitor Korrel had better things to do, and he wasn't fooling around. If she refused, there would be punishment.
"Klore Xlflkreyureu."
"What was your vessel's designation?"
"KL3-84X1. We were patrols."
"What is the purpose of your presence in Eccha?"
We were fired upon by trespassers while on patrol in our home system,"
"Which is?"
"Rumona. Kaesi ships hit us with neutron beams."
"I'd like a contact and jump point for Ishara. Fill this in, and stay here while we decide your fate."
He asked her several more questions, before bringing the information to the ship command. After counselling with Commander Sorrd, they presented the idea of asking the Isharans to join their cause to the Council.

The Enigma, Othlikk System

The Enigma was one of the sixteen spearheads of Maldurii home defense, and the sensors it was responsible for had recently detected two Avadrelij fleets. Communication ensued immediately.
"Halt. You are trespassing Maldurii space without a permit. Please identify your leader and vessel IDs for further inspection. Detail your affiliations and await further instructions. Failure to comply will result in command to open fire." Both had received the message, and all they could do was wait for further news. A request had been sent to Othlikkore for the decision of what to do to these frequent trespassers; there had been another one reported from Jubaal, and many feared it was a sign of dangers to come.

The Rhapsody, Jublaii system

General Maz'rok sighed as another fleet jumped into Jubaal. So many had been appearing in Maldurii space that the sight of a foreign fleet easily generated angst amongst the crew. This one contained some 500 vessels, a worry-inducing number, especially since it meant that, should they have even moderate firepower, the Maldurii would only be barely at an advantage. Sighing, he issued a message. "Halt. You are entering Maldurii space without a permit. Please identify your leader and vessel IDs for further inspection. Detail your affiliations and await further instructions. Failure to comply will result in a command to open fire." Maz'rok tapped his fingers on the table while awaiting their responses.

Othlikkore, Othlikk System

Vice Minister-Supreme Oro Tekkaan swiped through the documents labeled "VITAL". Some things, she knew, would catch the interests of others, but not her. The things that caught her eyes were that the Isharans were a potential ally; the Maldurii forces in Eccha were in a crucial position. She was glad they had contacted Othlikkore for instructions, and their requests had been relayed to the Council this morning. There was a strange hope in the air, as the Isharans had a reputation of being aggressive and easily aggravated, but they could and probably would play a vital role in this war - fingers crossed that it would be on Maldurich's side. The buzz in the political atmosphere emanated through the populace, and it was giving soldiers a boost of morale. There would be time to mourn and celebrate once the war had been won and all was said and done, but hope was in the air. Tekkaan issued the TaMS to Isharan officials, and microseconds later a signal shot off tachyons in a specific pattern towards the Isharan system.

Echo of Seismic Eruption, Eccha System

The Starliner Echo of Seismic Eruption surfaced out of hyperspace deep inside the local star's corona, as doctrine stated for entering a potentially hostile system. Whilst the highly charged and extremely hot environment all but rendered the Morthanveld craft incapable of detecting much, it also afforded it some measure of protection from other's sensory detection and weapon fire, should the surroundings be in full conflict. Thankfully, the one thing Morthanveld craft had in abundance were good shields, more than capable of resisting the heat around them.

{holding steady at 500,000 kilometres from the chromosphere} the Guidance Procedures Officer resonated

The Flight Commander rustled its spines in acknowledgement and focused attention on the Flight XO monitoring the sensor suites. {what can we dectect in the system?} it queried {safe to release the Aroma of Broken Stacks and Cold Seep Shore?}

{sensory range is still fluctuating} the XO replied. {early indicators show several large craft around the terrestrial world; from patterns and emissions, they appear to be of different xeno origins. no overt threats however, release is advised}

{signal their flight commands, advance to designated planet and make contact. offer no martial assistance} Flight Commander ordered

Two smaller craft detached from the Starliner and powered off, emerging from the corona and speeding towards Eccha. The Starcruisers kept their weapon systems offline and communications were handed over to the pik-Veld, Akidna; the drone's exotic senses (to a Morthanveld) better suited for this level of diplomacy. As the Starcruisers reached suitable distance from the contested world, Akidna began broadcast of its signal.

"This is Akidna of the Morthanveld craft 'Aroma of Broken Stacks'. We are coming in with no hostile intent on purely diplomatic and fact-finding objectives. Please do not shoot upon us. We seek to make orbit and open channels to all parties. Consider this a declaration of neutrality." The drone appeared on view screens as a 2m bell-shaped, matt grey body with a number of tentacles underneath. It had one large green optic on the front and floated with a barely perceptible bob.

{will the xenos consider our request?} the Flight Commander of Aroma of Broken Stacks queried its XO

{unknown} came the reply {preliminary indicators are that there is conflict on the surface of the world and some engagements in the system. by not identifying with either side, our neutrality will probably be recognised}

The Flight Commanded rustled its spines in an uneasy pattern before addressing the pik-Veld {make sure the xenos are aware that we hope to prevent excessive use of force against civilian targets}

{acknowledged} Akidna resonated {still awaiting replies however}

The Providence, Jublaii System

Praefecti Aulus sat back inside of his chair and pressed button on one of the armrests, activating the Providence's intercom.

"Dux Legatus Aremius, report to the Brigde. Dux Legatus Aremius, to the Bridge.

A few minutes later, a thin and stately man walked onto the Bridge. The Navarch rose from his seat and saluted, and the Dux Legatus bobbed a bow.

"You summoned me, Praefecti?"

"Yes, Legatus.. We've just received this message from the fleet the sensors detected. Nuntius Est Maelenis, replay the message."

"Yes, Praefecti."

The holographic projector replayed the message sent by General Maz'rok.

"As Dux Legatus of Classis Scrutor, I want you to be with me as we engage in talks with this new civilization, and as we reply to their message.

"As you wish, Praefecti."

Maelenis pressed buttons on his console, and the recording began.

"Maldurii people, I am Praefecti Aulus, commander of this fleet." He'd salute, and motion to the Legatus. "And this is Dux Legatus Aremius, chief diplomat, and we are representatives of the Imperium Paranos. We have been sent on an exploratory mission by His Most Gracious and Benevolent Majesty, Saturnus XIV, Imperator of Paranos,to explore new worlds and encounter civilizations in the super cluster at large. We mean your people no harm, and wish for peace. We await your reply."

Aulus motioned for Maelenis to end the recording, and he sat back down in his chair. He motioned for Aremius to sit in the chair that had suddenly been brought up, and looked out at the stars.

"And now we wait."

Amadestus, Underground Isharan City, Ishara.
EISCOM Headquarters.

Image
The EISCOM General Staff sit down at the Circular table, a large hologram of the local star systems being in the center of the Table. Several guards with red markings walk in holding AR-5001s, and stand at attention as Commodore Yekaterina walks in and takes a seat.

"I've called you here today to talk about the re-armament of the Isharan Fleets. Our wargames in the Kadeshi Nebula has proven.....valuable, in assessing that our fleets are heavily outdated." says 10th Rank Admiral Anja Yuledos.

"Reeman, if you would be so kind."

"Yes Ma,am" Reeman replies as the hologram changes to that of an Isharan Dreadnought, Specifically the IIN Desuria.
"We've already established that the 600-ton railgun is unnecessary, too much waste of resources and energy. What we did not establish, was the need to change the shape, armor, and other offensive capabilities of our warships, due to the new designs provided by Saklev." explains Reeman.

"Admiral, you want us to entrust a Corporation in building our ships? Doesn't that seem a little absurd?" Says 9th Rank Admiral Caprica Unevos.

"I assure you ma,am that Saklev is much more capable than the CONCOM seems to be." replies Reeman.

"You seem to forget that entrusting our nation's security to a Corporation, who can change their mind on a whim, is a unreasonable option!" yells Caprica.

"Enough, Replace the fleets that are not already deployed, but I want the Second Fleet to stay at Eccha. These orders are effective immediately!" yells Yekaterina. "Don't you see this is what the enemy wants? For us to fracture?"

"Now onto Eccha, what's the situation of Amber Dawn?"

"They are on their way to ECCHA42DS ma,am." replies 10th Rank Admiral Adam Liekos.

"Very well."

The meeting goes on for several more hours, before ending and the General Staff leaving. The 1st Fleet and the 3rd Carrier Group is ordered to return to Dry-docks for Scrapping and reassignment, It is Ishara's responsibility now to not get in a war, for it is at it's weakest.

ECCHA42DS, Isharan Second Fleet Staging Point Anna.

The 3 Helgaa-class Dreadnoughts would sit, connect together by a web of tubes, docking umbilical, and tethers. The Carriers and Battleships sit in a sphere around the command ships. The rest would be scattered about, refueling at various large tankers. The IEN Amber Dawn drops jumpspace, and proceeds to dock with one of the tankers, A prowler undocks and Jumps, making a quick hop into Eccha.

Eccha, Krakyios Debris Field.

The Prowler would jump into the system, and immediately hide itself inside the still molten debris field of the Krakyios. Due to the nature of the detonation, the Krakyios's Debris field almost completely hides the prowler from Active Infrared Scanners. The Prowler would launch it's drone complement to scan the surrounding Debris field, Signs of a reactor breach and subsequent Detonation.

Viixcas System, Tiran - Aberration Homeworld

The man stays crouched holding up the shield and sword to block his opponents next attack, sweat and blood on his face from the multiple cuts and scratches given to him by the Drone mirroring him across the sand. The man, dragged from his home and brought here by these creatures for sport. With a yell he rushes forward, crashing his shield into the drone before swinging the sword and stabbing through the Drones leg, the Drone lets out a screech as black ichor pours from the wound. Looking up the man sees the alien glaring at him before it backhands the human, sending him flying away before crashing into the sand. Aberration along the edges of the Arena cheering in their chaotic and terrifying language as the Drone walks toward the winded human. As it gets closer the drone pulls the sword from its leg, as the man attempts to stand the drone kicks him in the gut flipping him over and grunting for air.

The Drone screeches in victory as it stands over the probe and half conscious human, it smiles at the man before thrusting the sword through its chest. It stands straight raising its hands in the air as the Aberration on the sides cheer harder at the humans death.

*I close my eyes* I stand on the cap looking over my world, one in the endless cycle of invasion and domination, yet this one drew me here, A special place, perhaps I am ready to settle, perhaps not. Time for those questions later. There are bigger things to worry about. I can feel it, at the edge of my perception, an immense battle taking place that will soon escalate, a world that hangs in the balance. The Dominators tell me of these nations, vile tech users who play at war for petty things such as freedom and land. We, no I must enlighten them, show them their folly and destructive path before they destroy themselves. I can see through the eyes of my people, the vast fleet above the atmosphere. With a single thought, they will obey my commands.

Ahh another body has joined the Zealots, excellent. Enough distraction. Who should I send? Ah, T'ka Skretik wishes to prove himself, bring honor to his clan. Very well, go forth my servant. Bring another world to enlightenment, as all worlds will inevitably become. I can see and hear the engines powering up, there! In the sky the flashes. My servants off once again to bring the fools to Transcendency. *I open my eyes and look over the rank upon rank of Aberrations* Yes, soon the entire cluster will be enlightened.

Radiators unfurled from the main assembly as the warp bubble collapsed with a flash of radiation, plasma splashing against the powerful magnetic shield installed within the central sphere component. Plasma thrusters lit up with a harsh blue glow as the spacecraft began aligning itself with the system's reference frame, and the small power indicator on the rear flashed white as the PISR reactor ignited. Vector thrusting flaps flared out, spewing clouds of cold plasma accelerated by precise electromagnetic pulses. Thermal plates lit up as they worked to cool the central computing core to optimal operating temperatures, and superconducting circuits hummed with power as they conducted billions of calculations analysing the system. Before long, a short delocalised burst of information was exchanged, and the resident AI was soon awakened from its slumber...

Rome Marches On

Postby The Interstellar Roman Empire » Wed Jun 14, 2017 6:13 am

Terra, Neo Sol

Through the Via Appia Rome Legionnaires march. A military parade in honor of the recently finished conquest of the Tartarus System. Slaves from Tartarus, a species called the Tal, are paraded along with the legionaries. Along the route hundreds of thousands of people cheer the victorious military. The Legionnaires file into a gigantic square as the form up in front of a grand palace.

Caesar Augustus Cornelius Illyria, stands on the balcony overlooking the army and raises his hands for silence. "Jupiter has give us victory against another foe. Since the founding of our great nation, Romulus, Rome has grown and expanded to cover all of Terra! Now we are beyond what our ancestors could comprehend, our empire spans three star systems and we have brought civilization to the barbaric Xeno races of Tartarus and Illyria. Legatus Scipio Cassius Lucius Tartarus is to be commended for the military operation in the Tartarus System, as do all the fighting soldiers who served there!" Shouts of Ave wash over the square as citizens and soldiers cheer. Raising his hands once more silence falls, "We must continue on our path, Rome must not falter in her convictions. Long live Rome!"

"Any life signs?" I ask from the command chair.

"Life sign readings coming from the planet ahead sir. Unknown wether friendly or hostile."

"Attempting hail, yes sir."

PND Aremius,Space near Partus, Empira System

Sirens blared as a fleet jumped into Empire, in the space near Partus, catching the entire Classis Empira off guard. The fleet of 6,000, charged with the defence of the Imperium's home system, primarily the Imperial capital of Partus, immediately sent a detachment of 600 vessels to counter the foreigners. Procuratores Centenarii Vibius was sent in the dreadnought Aremius to head the reactionary fleet. Vibius sat in the command chair as the fleet moved to block the advance of the foreign fleet.

Vibius stood as the Aremius drew closer, and then stopped.

"Nuntius Est Pottius, prepare to issue a message to these foreigners."

"Yes, Procuratores."

Pottius tapped buttons on his console, and the message began.

Vibius spoke in an authoritative tone.

"Attention, you are entering Parni space without admittance or identification. You are required to disclose your affiliations immediately or we will open fire."

With that note, the message ended.

The Galaxy, Eccha System

Commander Sorrd stiffened when the receiver caught a signal from an unknown craft - of Morthanveld, wherever that was. There were apparently two, and they had just sent out a request not to open fire. Maldurii commwebs were like a spiderweb - too late to detect until your message was caught in one, it used radiation to clench an iron grip around the message signal to prevent it from leaving. The ship had a strange name, but Sorrd focused on the threat they posed.
"Send a TaMS to 'kore, and inform them," Sorrd commanded, and an admiral rushed to the job. There was a lot going on, and an enemy outside the blockade was the last thing they wanted, but the bombing runs had been largely successful - thanks to his colleague's ingenuity. She was probably getting a promotion, he thought, a bit disgruntled, but what mattered most was that they were successful in suppressing Soloconian hegemony. He flicked on the comm, then sent a signal to the trespassing ship.
"Halt. You are entering Maldurii-dominated contested space. Identify your leader and vessel IDs, locations, and numbers, for further inspection. Detail your affiliations and await further instructions. Failure to comply will result in a command to open fire."
Hopefully, he thought, That'll make them tiptoe long enough.

The Dragonheart, Eccha System

Commander Therani too noticed the Morthanveld ships, but Sorrd had taken care of it. Another sensory alert was coming in from the south as well as the site where the Isharan Cutter had undergone rapid unscheduled disassembly. The latter - a single ship, as far as they could tell - had been for a second only, but they knew it was somewhere in the area. It had made a luminescent flash in the darkness of the surrounding space, but they had no idea what nation it originated from. The former, however, was a fleet - and clearly Isharan, sharing many features to the Isharan Cutter they had located.
"This is Commander Therani to Hangar 44," she spoke into the ship comm.
"Hangar 44, over." A man replied, probably Jarell - the captain in charge of Hangar 44.
"Survey surroundings, dispatch a squad of Rævyns."
Minutes later, some 16 Rævyns departed from the hangar, CLOAC, stealth shielding, and ADA fully amped for maximum stealth.
"Squad reports nothing," Jarell responded.
"Very well. Commander Therani to Comm Central, Sector 28," Therani said, moving on.
"Comm Central."
"Route me to Othlikkore please."
"Routed."
Therani detailed the situation - their scanners had revealed a whole fleet sitting outside of Eccha, but that bright flash remained undetectable. Diplomacy seemed the way to go, and she was staying on guard for the lone ship. The Isharan Unbound in the satellite cruiser had given enough information to contact Ishara, and Othlikkore was sure to do that as soon as possible.

The Rhapsody, Jublaii System

The Parni fleet at Jubaal had been sitting around and given Maz'rok's observatory forces a good look, and they counted some 200 ships. He was awkwardly aware of their close proximity, and their capability to destroy the image he had been shaping for the last 4 months, but they hadn't engaged and he hoped it would stay that way - perhaps even supporting the war effort. The message they had sent was intriguing as well - exploratory, but seemingly imperialist. It fit with the ideals of the Parni, he supposed - their leader was called the Imperator - but it stood against his better judgement to let them into the system. Then their message came in. Acknowledging the message, Maz'rok replied.
"This is General Maz'rok of the Rhapsody. Our greetings to Imperator Saturnus XIV. This system belongs to Maldurich. You will remain outside the system until further decision, unless you have executive authority, in which case further discussion will ensue. Disturbance and aggressive actions will not be tolerated. Stand by."
He messaged Othlikkore as well to inform them of the situation, and glanced towards the map. Too many weaknesses in Jubaal's citizen defense, he thought. "Double building speed. I want more bots on the job!" His lieutenant commander nodded and relayed the message to ground control.

Othlikkore, Othlikk System

Space Defense and the Council building were bustling with activity - the comm lines were busier than they had been for the past century, while aides rushed back and forth with information too sensitive to be on the lines. Infantry squads, 6-ton exosuits in peacekeeper mode lined the perimeter with authority, as high security was a must, and there was a general buzz of activity in the halls of the Citadel. Tekkaan groaned as she was overloaded by the flood of information.
"Here's some more..." an aide said pitifully, but what had to be done had to be done. The Council would meet and discuss the prospect of their potential Isharan and Parni allies, while the Adrelij fleets would be given the option to assimilate with Maldurich or leave Maldurii space. There was only so much they could do about that, but it was reasonable enough. Isharan contact had been established with a preliminary diplomacy message, and now a declaration of peace had been set - assuring a mutual martial relationship between the two civilizations. " The government of Maldurich wishes to create a relationship between the Isharan and Maldurii people; this will include a mutual defense and optional aggression pact to last through the length of the Solon-Maldurii conflict, a renewable pact that will ensure the survival of our nations." The message went on detailing the clauses and parameters of the pact - that upon Maldurii invasion, Ishara would be responsible for reinforcing and backing the Maldurii defensive fronts, while the same would happen should Ishara be invaded.

Othlikkore, Othlikk System

In the Council Chamber, Gabriel Rion measured his paces as he walked towards his seat on the platform. The Elder Judges - himself, Peloran, and Locke - had recommended they fill up the new systems - Soleri and Thurr - as quickly as possible, as the imminent threat of war hung over their heads like a stone cloud, but today would decide whether the Council heeded their judgement or not. Thurr was rich in resources, especially the fereon that previously had only been mineable in the Jub'laii system, but they had no intent of reproducing Solocon's mistake. Concentrated production was a weak and ineffective - though cheaper - strategy. The Orii - the native humanoid species that featured soft black skin and glowing tattoo-like markings throughout their bodies - had no intent to destroy their environment in the name of economy either. The new colony was in a delicate balance, and Maldurich had to ensure they treated their new citizens with respect and consideration lest a civil war broke out. Soleri had its own issues - the Miraji, native residents of the Soleri system, were a spiritual and cultured people, and Maldurich had already seen fruit from the new but loyal colony. The fierce but secretive Thunor warrior-faction of the Miraji had been among the first to enlist, their massive and fearsome size making them ideal candidates. There was much potential, but they were also systems to protect - from the enemy as much as themselves.

Torre_18, Soleri System

In the uppermost level of the eighteenth Torris of the Miraji home world, Kaderi (chief) Kayen Nautiko opened his eyes. A deep breath revealed the clean mountain air around him, while the faded tinkling of crystal trees below him soothed his mind. Battle was coming, he knew, and his students had prepared for war. Miraji were not particularly skilled with fighting in the air or in space - hence why they had not ventured to the stars until the Maldurii came - but they excelled in ground battles. Kaderi was the title given to the teacher of a Thunor clan, and it had been through centuries of blood and sweat that he had risen to this rank. Battle is coming, he thought once more. It is almost here.

Space Force HQ, Unidentified Location

High Command plotted its next move cautiously, blindingly aware of the fact that a single misstep would mean the tipping of the precarious balance - and that would result in the almost-certain destruction of Maldurii civilization. The reinforcements to Eccha had arrived with their spacejet payloads, and support fleets were due to arrive in less than a day, in hot pursuit. Something had to be done about the recent visitors to the Jubaali and Ecchan systems; the question was, what? Aggression from all sides was something a third of the Maldurii Space Force couldn't take, so they had to once again tiptoe around the dragon. There was more at stake than appeared - the entire galaxy would be changed by the outcome of the war. They simply couldn't afford to lose.

Aroma of Broken Stacks
Eccha System

{contact made with a xeno space craft} Akidna relayed to the Flight Commander {they are requesting identification and affliliation, along with the number of vessels} the pik-Veld paused for a moment {I cannot directly translate their own name, my apologies}

{reply in kind} The Flight Commander replied {ensure they are aware of our non-hostile intention. do not disclose the presence of Echo of Seismic Eruption}

The Spacecraft Comms operator indicated it had pertinent information {the signal appears to be broadcast from one of the larger vessels around the planet. unsure if this represents the fleet flagship in the area}

Flight Commander twitched its spines in acknowledgement. {relay as much information back to Echo of Seismic Eruption as you can. Akidna, continue with your communications}

{understood} the pik-Veld re-engaged communications with the hailing craft. "Repeat. This is Akidna of the Morthanveld Starcruisers 'Aroma of Broken Stacks' and 'Cold Seep Shore'. We are neutral to the conflict currently engaged in and wish to observe and open diplomatic channels. You may address me as representative. Other details are not currently translatable. We have no hostile intent and have not engaged shields as a sign of good faith. To whom am I speaking? Which craft do you represent?"

The two Starcruiser's fusion drives flared as they began the deceleration and orbital instersion manoevers, the ovoid craft deftly preparing for a high geo-synchronous orbit.

A debate was meanwhile going on between the Flight Commander and the XO.

{leaving our shields down is too risky} the XO said {this appeared to be an active conflict zone and we may be misinterpreted as a participant}

{leaving our shields up guarantees suspicion} Flight Commander replied {I agree it is risky, but worth it. As a countermeasure, I will put the hyperdrive on stand-by. If we are attacked, we can escape the system and leave Echo of Seismic Eruption to handle things}

{is the Echo remaining in the corona?}

{for now, yes. these xeno craft appear more than capable. we do not wish to provoke any aggressive intent. prepare a shuttle, if necessary Akidna can visit these xenos in person}

The Empire of Steel

Postby Masade » Wed Jun 21, 2017 6:14 pm

"Why? Why would you ever want to do that Lei?"

"It would be so glorious. Why else would I do it?"

"You want me...." The robot skimmed over the papers to make sure he was reading it correctly. "To authorize 75,000 troops and yourself to go on the planet Wu Chang to capture..." He held the paper closer to his eyes in the sheer bewilderment. "90% of the native species so you can.... light them on fire, with lasers mind you, and then launch them into the vacuum of space. Then proceed to orbitally bombard the last ten percent..." The Emperor couldn't believe what he had just said out loud.

"It's a pretty delicious idea right?"

The Robot moved to say something only to be interrupted by a soft knock at the door. "Come in," he said briefly directing his attention away from the hologram. "As for you Lei. We have a metal shortage as is and you want me to authorize this! If single troop steps foot on Wu Chang I'll come up there myself, dismantle you, and put your consciousness into the princess' hologram! ARE WE CLEAR!?" The Admiral wasn't dumb enough to argue with that. She mumbled a "yes Sir", gave a salute and the hologram flickered offline.

"Is Everything OK your majesty?" Said the somewhat young looking female android that had just entered the Emperor's office. "You know how Lei can be. She get's the job done, but her sadistic side gets to me sometimes." He said sighing, trying not to imagine the horror that Lei had just asked for. "I assume you have the reports?"

"Everything's there Sir. The gods agreed that any further claims would stretch the empire to thin, the gas giant farm was accepted by the minister of infrastructure in system Sungchi. Terraforming has reached its final stages on Lan Se." She began to bow only before remembering one last thing. "You have a letter from Shi as well."

The Emperor smiled "That will be all" With that she bowed and left him alone with only a few candles he was burning. He skimmed over the reports trying to avoid the letter. It wasn't often that he got personal messages from the gods. "Best to get it over with quickly," he said, talking to no one imparticular. With a tear, he opened to find a letter written in the old language; English.

"Dear Emperor Xi YuNox
I know now must be a hard time for you. It's about to get even harder though. At the time of writing this, some other "empires" have been discovered. More importantly, they've most likely discovered us as well. This will be your only warning, you must adapt the Empire into a machine of war, be prepared for anything and everything imaginable and unimaginable, and most importantly, know when to intervein and when to stay out of it. I wish you the best of luck in this impossible endeavor. The fate of the Empire lies in the next few decisions.
Sincerely,
Shi The God of Death."

Xi slouched into the chair. First, a metal shortage and now the Empire had to face the Galaxy. Today couldn't get any worse.

The 25 ships of the 1st Victorian Resettlement Fleet moved silently through the darkness of space, not too far from Xiang. Their dim lights provided man-made replacements for the numerous stars light years distant. Their Engines pressures fast approaching red. A railgun round sliced through space between a Cutter and Destroyer, forcing both to take evasive action.

"Imperial ships fast approaching from below, Captain!" A Bridge Officer on the SDS Hellas yelled over the Klaxon's wail. "10 Ships, Standard Picket force lead by the SDS Hydra! They're ordering us to shut down our engines and return to Victoria!" The Captain glared through the display at the 10 ships firing at his fleet's blind spot. "Launch Skelters! Order them to target their railgun turrets! Order the Icaria and Galaxius Squadrons to target the Hydra's Command bridge!" The Captain said, seeing the 6 Imperial Cutters of the Imperial Picket force detach themselves from the Hydra's front to charge into the middle of the Resettlement fleet.

"Redirect the Skelters, target the Engines on those Cutters." The A-Jak Cutters, while heavily armed, had one weakness: The Engines. If Both were destroyed, the Cutter itself would detonate due to a catastrophic energy overload. Such was what happened to the pursuing cutters.

With the Cutters out of the picture, the Warships delegated to escort duties flipped themselves upside down so their main armaments would all be facing the pursuing ships. One Resettlement Cutter went on a high speed attack run, launching a volley of missiles that struck an enemy destroyer's missile bays just as they were preparing to fire, causing a miniatue nova to appear as the dozens of missile detonated. Sensing their disadvantage, the remaining destroyers and the Carrier realised that they stood no chance and gave up. As the Resettlement took control of the three additions, they detected immeasurable numbers of ships approaching.

Xah System, Somewhere on Morthan

The singular podium from the bridge of the Octonavis sits separate from the other items in the dark lab, a soft, constant murmur in the room as energy flows to varying projects and experiments. Beneath it all a soft sound adds to the noise, emanating from the ancient module.

Across the what was once thought an entirely black object lines, glyphs, and runes become highlighted with a cyan blue light, an internal battery of some form powering the machine. On the flat surface a blue table is lighted with a white grid system as holographic projections of systems, planets, and algorithms flash quickly above the holotable before slowing down and stopping at an image of the Xah system. The planets and star fly together and meld and reshape themselves into a Infernuii Golem, floating over the table. The AI scanning its surroundings, noting the Xeno architecture and Drones about the room. "Where am I?" It speaks with a semi-synthetic tone. The words are repeated numerous times in several languages, clicking, mathematical language, and hand sign

What was left of the ancient spacecraft that had provided most of the Morthanveld's remarkable technological achievments was an important site on Morthan; whilst the Morthanveld had come to the conclusion that very little was still to be gleaned from the advanced ship, they were reluctant to give up exploring its secrets entirely, and so there was always a reasonable number of Morthanveld and pik-Veld still on site. Housed in a prominent place in one of Morthan's largest cities, it was also a place of pilgramage for a lot of Morthanveld, keen to see the source of their ascendance to the stars. However, the deeper sections, with the most interesting technologies, were largely off limits to the general public and restricted to the most senior of technicians and their pik-Veld assistants.

The blue light didn't attract much attention to begin with; afterall, the Morthanveld supervisors couldn't detect it and the pik-Veld responsible for most of the work weren't tuned into detecting energy of that wavelength at the time. The low vibrations and energy transfers were being detected, but this was standard background noise for the technicians and drones, and usually ignored. Even the holographics failed to illicit a response, although had any of the nearby individuals been capable of seeing them, no doubt they would have been quite impressed. It wasn't until the newly formed shape spoke that anyone noticed there was anything out of the ordinary. Needless to say, having an ancient, long thought dormant alien device try to communicate is an unusual event.

The initial question wasn't understood to begin with; Morthanveld are capable of understanding many languages, and the pik-Veld had networked access to many more, but the ancient nature of the Infernuii had leant an archaic dialect to its words. A flurry of activity and a Morthanveld was summoned to communicate with the newly awoken device.

{repeat the statement} Yik-ma-jut said {I am Yik-ma-jut and I have been working with you for nearly two hundred years*. we are attempting to feed to you a Morthanveld lexicon, be patient}

As Yik-ma-jut was talking, a pik-Veld was feeding in a full dictionary, using the same method by which information had been extracted previously.

The hologram pauses for, to the Morthan only a second, analyzing the language and adding it to a list of known languages. Before replying it scans the room once more and runs background diagnostics.

[Greetings, I am Zetin, AI keeper of the Octonavis Disruptive Flow. I have many questions to ask of you. My diagnostics say we crashed here more than 3,000 years ago, are you a new species? A second question is have any of my kind come to reclaim me?]

The hologram seems to flicker as the internal generators constant hum skips a beat before continuing. [My system also says multiple files have been extracted and my ship has been dismantled, why?]

There is a few moments of commotion following the successful communication, but Yik-ma-jut regains composition quickly. {such a remarkable occurance. many greetings to you. you must know that you have been quite the bonus to us and I doubt that anything I say or do will quite communicate just how important you have been.

{to answer your questions; as a species we have been here on this world for several hundred thousand years but hidden under the ice above until very recently. as far as we are aware none of your kind have visited since your fortuitous arrival. we are not even aware of what your kind is, we have no records of encountering any yet. your...}
there is a pause as the word 'file' is translated to a reasonable approximation {...memories have been accessed and your ship dismantled to better learn from you. your initial discovery caused quite a ripple, but early researchers managed to access some of your sub-routines and they taught us much. it is fair to say that you are responsible for the formation of modern Morthanveld society, but forgive us, we were unaware that you were a sentient being.}

The AI processes the information, the hologram glitching out as another interruption in the hum of the modules machinery.

[I am glad to be of assistance in elevating your species to a higher level of civilization. As for my species I am from the race called Infernuii. We are beings of pure energy. What you see,] it waves to the body, [Is the golem, it contains our true forms allowing us to live without being torn apart by Entropy. In my case my Golem is the Module that I am appearing above. Your deconstruction of my ship is forgiven, if you had left it together the Aberration may have followed the distinct energy readings of the Octonavis and you would not be here.] it pauses as it glitches again, [I am sad though, If none of my kind have come it means we lost the war. I am the last Infernuii.]

Acritudo System, City of Light

Image

The canyon sized main hall was filled with the population of the City of Light, the Ancients and Priarch on the stage waiting for silence. As it quiets down the Priarch, A golem distinguished by the Priarch symbol Φ in the middle of the Golems head, steps forward, "As many of you have heard our students, the Terran Nomads, have brought terrifying and consequential news to us. Our ancient enemy, the Ones Who Devour, The Aberration of Life, has returned and has become even more dangerous than their ancestors who we thought we destroyed. We must prepare ourselves for the oncoming conflict." The Golem pauses sadly, "I must ask everyone to prepare themselves, for the Second Corruption War is upon us and this time we are the underdogs, the enemy outnumbers is once more but we must eradicate this threat no matter the cost. Life must continue in Axiom or we failed the lesser beings."

{that is a lot of new information for us to take in. we have not been exploring this region of space for long, so it might be that your race still exists out there. our world is isolated and, until recently, difficult to visit} There is a brief pause. {who is this 'Aberration' that you speak of? this is another group we have not yet encountered. we might think ourselves as advanced, but there is still much we need to learn.}
