Bombing Raid

Postby Nahmeighn » Tue Jan 24, 2017 5:36 pm

EB-111's of the 494th electronic warfare wing initiate a low level super sonic attack 700mi distance from the fleets of Hashirajima and Vionna-Frankenlisch. skimming the waves at an altitude of 125ft and an airspeed of 950knts. the strike force is broken up into four 12 plane sections. red and green sections thier attacks from the North and yellow and blue sections call attack from the west.
As the EB-111's close to within 150 miles of the enemy fleet they launch their payloads of Slam-er-L Cruise missiles using their Powerful lidars to guide them to their targets, and then as they close to 50 miles distance they launch their payloads of harpoon anti-ship missiles.

F.S.S.Renegade
"Captain, multiple splashes sounds like hail hitting a tin roof!"
"Full up on the planes, emergency blow on the ballast tank" ordered Capt. Murphy "Someone dropped depth charges on us!"
Renegade shot towards the surface of the ocean like a cork as the 96 depth charges rained down with in a mile of Renegade she reached the surface a charge went off under the stern of the vessel causing the starboard propulsar to jam and rip apart the drive shaft
"Captain, our Starboard drive line is jammed and the seal is cracked! I've had to pull the all stop on the turbines to save the ship" announced the chief engineer
"Signal the fleet we're dead in the water! Prepare the crew to abandon ship if it becomes necessary" Ordered Capt. Murphy

From now on, only major posts will have titles and summaries. Smaller posts like this one will be pure IC text.

Eastern Pacific Ocean
Ready Room - HMNS Andy
Admiral Alfred Longstaff

"Sir, a message from the William the Great... Captain Volkov reports that her Mk.1 Depth Charge Missiles have struck the enemy submarine, it is still afloat but heavily damaged. It won't be able to take anything more."

"Very good, order out ten helicopters, six to take out that sub, keep the other four on station to pick up any survivors."

"Yes, sir!"

As the aide left the HMNS Andy's ready room, another entered, bearing a countenance of worry.

"Sir!"

"Yes?"

"Our forward screens report enemy aircraft inbound, several have launched their missiles."

"And our interceptors?"

"They have confirmed the contact and are moving in to engage."

"Order all ships to have damage crews on standby and brace for immediate heavy impact, all anti-ballistic systems online. I am ordering a staff meeting, all captains to report aboard flagship in half an hour, or send a representative officer."

"Yes, sir!"

Condor-1 - B
HMNS Condor Air Group
Wasp Mk I, ASF

"Condor-1 Actual..."

"Copy, 1 - B."

"Incoming message from Kingpin, all air groups are cleared to engage enemy air contacts."

"Copy, 1 - B... Alright Condor One, spread out and use your afterburners as much as is safely possible, our objective is to simply take down as many bandits as possible."

The group spread out in a line abreast and readied their weapons, they caught the Nahmeighnian planes as they turned to return to rebase. The 66 Wasp Mk1's each launched their eight Vandemann AAMs in synch before making a loop to allow their missiles to reach their targets before zipping back in to engage the survivors with their 20mm autocannons. As they turned, emergency rafts were dropped into the water below for any downed airmen to use, enemy or friendly.

Ghost and Banshee Flights 700 NMi from the Fleets
"Ghost and Banshee Flights, you are ordered to return to base and rearm" Came the order over the coms network
aboard ghost 4 "what the hell do you think that was about?" Asked Major Thorn
"something more important I guess" Replied Thorns co-pilot Lieutenant Sanchez
the 32 B-2 bombers turned around and returned to base.

173 Composite Wing, Kingsley Field, Klamth Falls Oregon
16 B-1B's were being loaded with 24 MK65 Quickstrike mines each, they would be mining the columbia river from the river bar to 10 miles up, the bombers of the Finnian Airforce would all be tasked with minning the columbia river, and along the coast off of Manzanita north to the columbia river.

617th engineering battalion, Highway 20, between Newport and Corvallis Oregon
"God Damn this Fucking snow to hell" Sgt. Thompson grumbled to himself as he looked at the 6th prepared fighting position for a Wolfhound MBT of the day.
"Sarge, the weather man predicts continued storms no relief for the wicked" replied Private Miller
"How about you shut your freaking mouth and get back to work we have 3 more of these before the days over" Replied Sgt. Thompson
the men of the 617th weren't alone in their struggle against the elements engineering units from all the divisions where busy on all the passes preparing fighting positions for the heavy fighting vehicles of the Finnian Army the belief being that a fighting vehicle with just its turrent visible would have a higher likelihood of surviving. The prepared positions would be camouflaged with saplings and branches.

17th Lancer Division, Corvallis Oregon
The men of the 17th Lancers were busy adding camouflage netting and branches from pine trees to their wolfhound MBT's, direwolf heavy tanks, and their bloodhound scout tracks. across the finnian forces the men and women of the army where going a little stir crazy waiting for the assaulting forces to land. Their commanders were keeping them busy prepping their equipment and running sand table exercises.

Falcon 3, over Lincoln City Oregon
The 4 F/A-28B's of Falcon 3 flew a lazy race track patterns waiting anxiously for the chance to prove their worth against the assaulting forces fighters and to lay waste to their ground forces as well
"Captain when do you think we will see the Assaulting forces?" asked a bored lieutenant
"Lietenant the coms are for official communication not chit chat" Replied the Captain
"Fucking ass hole" replied the Lieutenant to himself

[Location: HS Kinzo, N. Pacific]

VADM Anzai watched from the control tower as the S. Oregon coastline drew up over the horizon, before glancing back briefly as his XO enters the control room. "You were looking for me, sir?" the man asked, taking up position beside his commanding officer by the window.

"Yes. First, a SITREP, if you would."

"Right. 155 and 353 are on ASW patrol, 123 is on BARCAP. 149 and 131 was on aerial detection coverage, but landed recently for a crew handover. SubDiv 5 noted a build-up of N-force frigates. It is likely, given what we know of their general doctrine, to be accompanied by a corresponding submarine concentration but that is uncertain."

"Good. Just in time then." Anzai nodded, taking note that the mentioned squadrons had indeed successfully landed.

"Does this have to do with why we're just doing BARPAT off the opponent's coast?"

"Astute, as always. These are the new orders. The fleet is to maintain BARPAT, keeping highest alert for submarines. 149, with fresh crew, will conduct a flyby recon of the Medford-Roseburg region. Sortie 125 and 127 for reconnaissance FORCAP, and 131 for electronic coverage. Do not conduct any strikes. Just a quick flyby will do, take no risk of being intercepted. Engagement permitted only if necessary for a successful exfiltration. Oh yes, and SubDiv 5 is to continue keeping watch on the naval facilities. Do nothing to break cover unless necessary, in which case a full retreat is in order."

"... if I may ask, sir. What is the purpose of this?"

"I'm sure one as astute as you can figure it out. Simply put, Captain, if you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle."

Anzai kept his eyes on the flight deck as the XO left and before long, the squadrons took off sequentially, taking a short loop around Kinzo before flying off in formation...

Coast of S.Washington
HMNS Andy, Flight Deck
Ordinance Officer Roger Hamilton

Roger stood on by his gun turret aboard the Hood Class Superdreadnaught, HMNS Andy, looking down upon the three reconnaissance planes launching from the mighty warship's flight deck. The sun slowly set over the horizon, casting an eerie yet beautiful glow over the water and glinting off the various chromed fittings aboard the mighty warship. The Seahunters made their way quickly up the flight deck and launched one after the other at breakneck speeds, zipping their way towards the looming coastline of Southern Washington, the town of Westport barely visible in the far distance. Roger waved like a child at the planes as they did a loop before speeding off into the distance.

He turned back and entered his turret, headed down the winding stairs and down to the gun crew's recreational quarters to join his comrades.

"Recon Actual, I'm seeing enemy defences ahead..."

"Got it, One, what do you see?"

"Looks like Hesco Entrenchments around Montesano, Melbourne and Elma. Actual."

"Righto, Two, go ahead and take some pictures then we'll get the hell out of here... The lack of enemy response is worrying me."

"Yep, I get what you mean, Actual."

"Two here... We've taken twelve pictures: two thermal, two heat signature, the rest are normal at different magnifications."

"Very good, Two, let's return to Andy"

Night Eyes, E-767 AWAC's aircraft opperating above Roseburg Oregon
"Jamming activity is coming from the Hashirajima fleet, looks like 4 AN/ALQ-99 type jammers, let me flip frequency... Ah yes looks like 28-30 aircraft in bound.... Shit they switched frequency again means they must be E/A-18G Growlers amongst the flight." Reported a Radar technician
"Order the Fighters after them, their jamming will block out their own radar, intel says the Hashirajima navy uses E-2D's they may be blinded by the white noise" commanded the senior flight controller
"Fright flight, you are ordered to engage Hashirajima aircraft, initial targeting data for your Spike BVRAAM AIM-148C's will be proceed through our radar, we will guide you in on the jammers, than you are weapons free against the rest of the aircraft."

Fright Flight, Racing towards the Hashirajima aircraft
The four F/A-24B's of Fright Flight opened the doors on their weapons bay and each launched 2 Spike BVRAAM AIM-148C missiles the entire processes took less than 3 seconds. the 8 Beyond visual range air to air missiles raced to mach 5 quickly closing range. the belief being the missiles would be undetected as the AWAC's Guided them in on the jamming aircraft and after the jamming aircraft had been destroyed the superior F/A-24's would decimate the remaining aircraft or at least hold them off until reinforcements could join the frey...

Swan Flight, Kingsley Field, Klamth Falls, Oregon
"Swan Flight you are cleared down the run way" came the order to the Alert squadron and the pilots tightened the harnesses and roared down the runway 10 minutes and 12 F/A-24's had roared down the main runway and roared north west for the coming air battle on full after burner.

82nd Airborne Division, Portland Oregon
"Well Gents, we finally got some good freaking orders, the 82nd will be deploying along the coast, each Brigade will be sectioned off and tasked with patrolling the coast for an invasion task force. Our orders are to report and withdraw and only instigate combat if absolutely necessary, we will be using our Fox's and stay mobile and spread out. But remember brothers we will be the only ground forces west of the coast range." Announced General O'Connel to his gathered division
it would take a little over a day but with in 28 hours his division would be patroling the coast line of oregon keeping an eye out for the assaulting forces, they would avoid contact and report before with drawing into the forest and hills of the coast range

[Location: 131-1, W. Coast, S. Oregon]

The pilot of the lead T5N of 131 squadron, glanced around, taking a casual peek behind him to the "DJ", as he liked to call his EW operator. "Anything unusual?"

"Nope, though that's unusual in itself. I'm certain these guys aren't as lax as the other guys last time..."

"Time for a frequency change?"

"May as- WHAT IN THE NAME OF KAMI?! Eight missiles, incoming!"

Pulling hard on the control rod, the pilot bit out a even worse invective, "Hold on, evasive manoeuvres!"

Barely managing to twist his plane around, the lieutenant commander idly listened as the other cockpit occupant hastily called out a warning to the rest of the mission team. "Fuck this, we're outta her-" *boom*

Whipping his head back, he watched as one of the escort fighters went up in flames, the fireball mere inches from an evading 131-...2, right. "Yep, fuck this clusterfuck." Taking a moment to deploy anti-lock on measures, he called out across the comms frequency. "This is Akagawa! Mission's over guys, get the fuck outta here!"

Following his lead, the four squadrons hastily U-turned, keeping an eye out for pursuing enemies on radar.

[Location: HS Kinzooff W. Coast, S. Oregon]

VADM Anzai narrowed his eyes as his recon team landed. 'One down, hmmm. That's unexpected. So it seems their radar have quite a range.'

Turning towards his waiting XO, he paused for a moment before stating in a matter-of-fact voice, "Get 121 and 123 in the air, and prepare 125 and 127 for re-deployment. And get the EW and AWAC up as soon as possible. Keep up BARPAT for one more cycle, then maintain Course 2 out of anticipated detection range. Also, tell LG Satou to prepare his men."

The XO nods, before striding purposefully out of the control tower.

Night Falls...

As night descends, the Vionna-Frankenlischian forces begin their landing plans.

20:00 Hours

Hawaii, Honolulu
Hawaii Convention Center
1st Airborne Division Headquaters

General Stanisław Ostrowski stood behind the podium on stage in the Lili`U Theater of the Hawaii Convention Center. Every officer of the 1st Airborne Division sat before him in rows, from the highest Brigadier to the lowest Ensign they all sat in tense silence awaiting their general's address.

"Ladies and Gentlemen..." He began, in his thick Polish accent, "We are hours away from launching Operation Pinhead, our gliders and planes are all in working order, our escorts are all ready to go and every man is ready to get moving at any moment... However, I felt it would be best to say to all of you, the plan we have put together."

"Our glider troops will be landing a few miles away from Portland. Our paratroopers, on the other hand, will land in and around Portland itself. The planes and supply drops have been packed full of anti-tank weaponry and engineering equipment. Their orders will be to dig in and hold Portland until XVIII Corps arrives along with III Army. We cannot risk a fight in the centre of Portland, the enemy would win with numbers and attrition, it is vital that we hold the outskirts of the city. Any questions?"

"Sir?" Colonel Marmander asked, hand in the air, "Who will be landing first?"

"1st Naval Infantry Brigade will be landing first to secure a beachhead, we are hoping to have XVIII Corps landed around an hour later. When XVIII Corps is fully disembarked I Airborne Corps will land. Hopefully, the enemy will move to intercept XVIII Corps' advance towards Portland and the Glider Infantry can hit the enemy from behind. Meanwhile, the paratroopers will carry out entrenching operations around Portland. Finally, III Army will disembark after XVIII Corps and should be fully on land by nightfall."

Coast of N. Oregon
Meeting Room, HMNS Invincible
Romulus General Edgar Crewe

Romulus General Crewe paused for a moment before talking again.

"So... Any questions?"

"Yes sir," Major General Heinrich Amsel raised his hand and asked, "Sir, what are our specific orders? You only went over the operation plans..."

"I was going to get to that... But as there seems to be no other questions, I'll go over XVIII Corps' orders now. We will land here," he pointed at the map, "At Garibaldi, there appears to be no current enemy resistance aside from a few light infantry patrols that will be taken out or pushed back by our Naval Infantry landings beforehand. We should be fully disembarked within three and a half hours, each division should take around an hour to disembark all of their combat and support units. When they have been deployed, the Guards Cuirassier, under the command of General Lawrence Vandeleur will lead the advance towards Portland, expect dogged yet sporadic resistance."

"Oh Christ..." General Vandeleur murmered to his aides. (Skip to 1:46)

"Now," Crewe continued, "By this time, 1st Airborne should have landed and Glider troops should move in from behind the enemy to surround their positions and support our attack. When the enemy troops have been defeated, we will continue our advance and reach the 1st at Portland, possibly before, possibly after III Army."

"Kickoff is at 23:30 hours, ladies and gentlemen, use your time well."

[Location: HS Kinzo, outside Coumbia River Delta]

"Sir, Yaeyama and Tsushima has begun sweeping the delta for mines, our approach is clear and they are asking if they should go up-river. SubDiv 5 reports no movement towards our location." The XO said, watching his superior.

VADM Anzai nodded. "Good. Tell the minesweepers to proceed. The escorting DesDiv 35 vessels are to watch out for enemy movement. How's the army's preparations?"

"Sir, Ojika has departed for the river, escorted by the remainder of DesDiv 35. Miura is also proceeding towards the beachhead site."

"Understood. Keep me updated, and tell the cruisers to watch for enemy air mobilisation."

[Location: HS Zenryu, off Sunset Beach]

"Sir! The troops have departed on Miura and Ojika." A staff officer called out from the temporary Army command centre aboard the LHA Zenryu.

LG Satou nodded, before glancing across the heavily annotated map at his fellow commanders. While LG Kuninaga is an experienced veteran with involvement in several exercises, COL Shimazu is participating in his first exercise after taking over 4th Airborne.

"So, let's go through the plan again, shall we?" A silent chorus of nods around the table amongst the commanders and staff officers. "The 1st will be tasked with establishing the beachhead at Sunset Beach. The 109th, 113th, and 117th will land first under cover of night, and when the site is secured, the rest of the assets will make landfall. That should be done by 0300, latest 0330. Then we'll head NE for the airbases and disable their anti-air assets as well as ground their planes. Preservation of enemy equipment is optional."

Nodding, Kuninaga took over smoothly. "The 3rd will make landfall at Svensen, amphibious then the rest. Two amphi brigades will hold the... it's a town, I'm calling it that. While the armour and mechanised move up to assist the capture of Astoria. Shimazu, you know what the 4th's role is, I suppose?"

"Yes sir. Once the air bases are taken, we head in to Astoria, assist in taking high value targets in the city, then airlift back to the Zenryu to await further orders."

"Good." Satou looked around, before holding up his watch. "Everyone set time, now's 2158.... 59.... 2200, mark time. Operation KA-MI begins in 2330, everyone finish up preparations. Dismissed!"

23:30 Hours

The Operation begins.
1st Naval Infantry Regiment
  • 1st Battalion - Bay City
  • 2nd Battalion - Garibaldi
  • 3rd Battalion - Barview

2nd Naval Infantry Regiment
  • 1st Battalion - Tillamook
  • 2nd Battalion - Tillamook
  • 3rd Battalion - Tillamook Cheese Factory

Coast of N.Oregon
Tillamook Bay
1st Naval Infantry Brigade

The IFV cut it's way through the smooth waves of Tillamook Bay, stuffed full of soldiers awaiting the onslaught that the next few days would doubtless bring. Four men sat on the outside of the vehicle, riding Desant, trying desperately to keep their legs from dangling into the murky and cold water of the bay that surrounded them. Behind the IFV followed seventeen of the same type and ahead of it, another nine led the way. The command vehicle took the lead of the group, flying the colours of the 1st Battalion of the 1st Naval Infantry Regiment, Major Danniell stood on the turret of the lead vehicle, covered in a flowing officer's cape much like George Washington crossing the Delaware, the image made slightly less inspiring due to the pitch black darkness of the night.

To the left of the column, the vehicles and men of the 2nd Battalion were landing at Garibaldi, and behind them, the 3rd Battalion were hitting the shore at Barview.

Major Rachael Danniell

The cool air rushed past my reddened and cold ears as the craft below me pushed its way through the icy waves of the bay. Behind our column, two other battalions landed at their respective locations and troops began to disembark and sweep their way through the villages. Ahead, the small town of Bay City loomed ominously, a village that seemed to spell danger and death from half a mile away, I dreaded the landings despite my calm demeanour, the thick cloak delegated to me when I first became a Major provided some warmth but the cold air penetrated my skin and chilled me to the core. In a way, I actually kind of looked forward to combat, at least it would warm me up and provide a bit of energy.

[Location: Svensen, OR]

Under the cover of night, a swarm of inflatable vessels made landing on the river bank of Svensen and disgorged three whole brigades. A perimeter, covering the borders of the town, was established while troops quietly moved their landing crafts aside.

COL Kobayashi, acting field commander of the Hashirajima Army 1st Division, watched as the river bank was cleared, before pulling out a pair of appropriated aircraft signalling batons. (Somewhere on the Zenryu, a deck crew member is rather...vexed that there's equipment unaccounted for. But that's not the point here...) A quick, deliberate sequence of swings later, and a convoy of Type 19 Amphibious IFVs rolled onto the banks, forming an inner perimeter in the town.

'No opposition, but I'm definitely not complaining...' thought Kobayashi as he watched the LST assigned to his division, the Ojika, pushed up to the riverbank before opening up. From within came the 11th Armoured Brigade, immediately heading down the road westwards, and the other supporting formations. Artillery positions were set up, camouflage pulled on, and within an hour the division MBTs and IFVs were in position for their advance to Astoria.

All they need now is a signal from the 3rd...

[Location: NE of Sunset Beach, OR]

COL Konagai eyed the roadsides from her perch on the lead Type 19 IFV of her convoy, frowning as she took occasional glances backwards towards the Oregon National Guard base complex they just passed. No activity, at all. In a way, it's good since it means the enemy's air assets are further from their location. However, that also means they have to keep an eye out for air activity since they have done jack shit to the enemy's air assets.

Sighing, she radioed lead MBT for updates, before settling back slightly for the roadtrip ahead...

Delta Company, 304th brigade, 82nd Airborne Division Tilamook Oregon
"We have Enemy forces landing near tilamook" reported Capt. Williams of Delta company as he watched the Vionna forces approach the coast.
"Thats it we're pulling out back into the hills we will observe and report" Ordered Major Rickardson
the Men of the 82nd Airborne division pulled back into the tall pine forest of the coast range. many times barely inside the trees watching over this target or that one

2nd Armored Corps HQ, Corvallis Oregon
"Sir, central command has issued an immediate action order for the entire corps, attacking forces have begun landings on the northern coast. reports of enemy forces near tilamook and Astoria." Reported Col. O'Connor
"Order the Corps to their preordered defensive plans per battle plan A3-B we will hold highways highways 6, 26, and 18/22, all fighting vehicles to stay in their prepared fighting positions until contact with the enemy. they will not advance beyond the crest of the coast range."
with those simple words the armored vehicles of 2nd corps began rushing to their prepared fighting positions with in 6 hours they would be entrenched and their big 140 mm guns waiting for the enemy

196th Fighter wing, PDX, Portland Oregon
"Alert Alert! Ready Squadrons ordered into the air.... Alert Alert!"
the 32 pilots of the 2 ready squadrons strapped into their fighters and began racing down the the runways of portland international airport to increase the number of fighter aircraft patrolling the skies in northern oregon to 64

99th ground attack squadron, PDX. Portland Oregon
16 A-19 attack aircraft where being loaded with 4 Durandal runway destroying bombs and 2 spike amraams for self defense.
"Men your job is simple, their are two airfields in the area of the enemy advance that could possibly support modern fighters or strike aircraft they're Astoria regional airport also showing on some maps as coast guard airstation astoria, and Tillamook airport 8 A-19 strike aircraft will be tasked with the destruction with each field, you will come in low and fast on full burner and release your Durandal bombs this is a critical tasking because with out these fields the enemys chance at gaining any sort of air presence is minimal" Explained Col. Barns
20 minutes after the 32 F/A-24's had ripped into the air the 16 A-19s rolled down the runways and towards their targerts they would fly nap of the earth the entire way under an umbrella of friendly aircraft if any attacking aircraft felt the urge to come out and play that is if they could pick up the stealthy aircraft on their radar

F.S.S. Monitor, Grave Yard of the Pacific on the sea floor 60 feet off of the wreck of F/V Annas Dream
"Captain, that is for sure Kinzo, the enemies carrier." Reported the sonar man "no chance they've found us just sitting here on battery power and so close to the wrecks."
"very well launch all 6 tubes" Ordered Capt. Smith
and with that 6 MK 48 ADCAP torpedos raced the short distance to the HS Kinzo the aircraft Carrier of the Hashirajima fleet

[Location: Svensen, OR]

COL Kobayashi frowned as the sound of shells whistled sharply throughout an otherwise silent night. Before him, the division signals commander waited patiently. DesDiv 35 is requesting permission to fire SSMs at McGowan, where enemy artillery units have been spotted.

Then, a signals runner came into the evacuated building they are using as a field command post. "Sir, report from the forward scouts. Enemy artillery positions have been determined!"

Nodding, he took a brief moment to decide. Do he keep his land artillery under wraps and let the destroyers take care of McGowan, or do he attempt to preserve any vague concealment on the destroyers?

Making his decision, he called the signals commander over. "Tell DesDiv 35 that they are free to engage. Convey the enemy coordinates to their CO."

"Understood, sir."

[Location: HS Hatsuyuki, Colorado River, OR]

The comms officer turned around as soon as he placed down his headset. "Sir, we're free to engage. Army decided to let us handle these guys."

"Do we have targeting resolutions for the enemy artillery?"

"Sir, radio's ready for missile guidance."

"Well... fire away, then."

At that signal, five thermobaric missiles took off from the destroyers of DesDiv 35, illuminating the nighttime river banks. Upon reaching the appropriate height, they did a sharp downward turn and soon after, a veritable firestorm broke out along a small patch of the Colorado riverbank centred on McGowan.

[Location: HS Zenryu, off the Pacific Coast, OR]

"Sirs! VF ground forces have made landfall at Tillamook Bay. Locations are Barview, Garibaldi, Bay City."

LG Satou nodded to the comms officer. "Understood. Keep up the inter-force comms, and keep us updated." Comms nodded, before turning back towards the station.

Then, the shipboard comms system crackled. "Attention all forces, enemy air assets approaching Astoria. Predicted targets are Astoria Regional Airport and Oregon National Guard Airbase."

Comms turned back to the generals. "Sirs..." Sparing Satou, who was staring intently at the map laid out before him, a glance, Kuninaga nodded. "Inform the divisions. Also..."

Without turning, Satou called out. "Tell the 3rd to preserve concealment. These air fields are inconsequential."

"... yes, that." concurred Kuninaga.

[Location: West of Astoria Regional Airport, OR]

COL Konagai, Field Commander 3rd Div, flinched as a shell hit the Astoria Regional Airport that laid along her path. Just as she was wondering what she's heading to, her comms guy called her down into the IFV. "Ma'am, notice from high comm. Enemy aircraft approaching our location, and judging by AWAC info they're targeting the air facilities."

"Annnnd I suppose we're suppose to engage?" she gestured.

"No idea, ma'am. They've not given any follow-up orders." The comms man frowned at his radio set, while Konagai sat back and wondered why the arty barrage went silent.

Then, a crackling sound from the radio prompted the radio operator to pick up the receiver. After a short period, he called over. "Command said to let them pass. Preserve concealment."

Konagai nodded, peeking out of the vehicle for a moment. "Alright then, get the convoy off the road. I want camo nets up in 15 mins and engines down in 10."

"Yes ma'am!"

[Location: HS Kinzo, off the Pacific Coast, OR]

"TORPEDOES APPROACHING, STARBOARD, SIX!" yelled out one of the sonar guys in panic.

Holding onto the nearby railing, VADM Anzai watched as from the shipwide comms-channel, the helmsman yelled out. "ALL HANDS BRACE FOR IMPACT! EVASIVE MANEUVEURS UNDERWAY!"

Shortly after, the carrier shook violently. The admiral calmly watched the chaos that erupted around him in the CnC room. Beside him, his XO was yelling out rapid-fire orders. "GET DAMECON ON THAT! CHECK FOR LEAKS, SEAL THE LOCKS. AND WHAT IN THE NAME OF KAMI-SAMA WAS THAT?"

"Sir, torpedo. One hit, pre-detonation sonar signature suggests a submarine-borne one, possibly MK 48 ADCAP."

"... how did we survive that then?" The XO frowned.

From the deck management area of the room, "Sir, leakage at starboard forward. Damecon is on it."

"Probably a glancing hit. Based on sonar vectoring from the last few seconds, they fired from depth."

At that moment, Anzai called out across the room, his voice cutting through the back-and-forth chatter. "Get 353 on it. And do a perimeter sweep for more subs. Relay the sonar vector to the squadron CO."

"Yes sir."
