the Submarines of the 3 Finnian Submarine squadrons deployed in layers with the conventional powered monitor class SSK's staying with in 200 miles of shore and the Tigershark SSN's and Revenge class SSGN's operating further out in the deep northern pacific the nuclear boats will stay in contact with their RORsats for a update on the location of the Assaulting fleet.

On Land 2 Lancer Divisions, 2 Dragoon Divisions, a Artillery division, a Anti Air Division and a Hussarl Division Prepositioned themselves in Corvallis and Salem Oregon this would be Armored Group 2 commanded by General William Thurston. Armored group 3 composed of 2 Lancer Divisions, 2 Dragoon Divisions artillery Division, a Anti Air Division and a Hussarl Division will be positioned in Roseburg and Grantspass to cover the southern Oregon coast and Coosbay and commanded by General Matherw Miller. 8th Armor group 2 Lancer Divisions, 2 Dragoon Divisions, a Artillery division, a Anti Air Division and a Hussarl Division will act as a strategic reserve and be Based in Ontario Oregon and be commanded by General Hector Geraldo. All air wings are currently stationed at Newport air base, while 2 recon planes patrol the coast 100 km out, while 2 air defense wings fly over the air base, while 1 patrolled over the naval base.
Currently at newport naval base, 2 destroyers are currently in the dry dock under repair, 3 patrolling the coast along with 4 heavy cruisers, while 1 anti air cruiser is currently anchored at the port.

Overview of the Vionna-Frankenlischian forces and plans

The Third Army under the command of Field Marshall Karl Poltov has its headquarters at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center in Honolulu, the plan is for them to land after the marines of the 1st Carrier squadron force a landing on the coast near Newport. Meanwhile, a second unit of marines will land further south at Coos Bay followed by the 18th Armoured Corps.

Field Marshall Poltov sat behind the desk in his hastily arranged office at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. He chewed slowly on the end of a cigar before spitting the sodden and chewed up end into an ashtray. He lit the cigar and sat back in his swivelling office chair. The room around him was a mess of radios, documents, aides and Port Decanters. Field Marshall Poltov was fond of the drink after all... He sighed as he took a long drag and checked his Stratopad for messages... None. As he closed his eyes for a quick nap, the door opened and Romulus General Edgar Crewe walked up to Poltov's desk, he saluted smartly and began talking...

"Sir, 18th Corps are ready to go, we have embarked and Admiral Longstaff reports that his fleet is ready to put out to sea at any moment. Oh also, we've done the calculations, It should take around three hours for our vehicles to reach Albany, provided we don't meet any resistance."

"Brilliant..." Poltov replied, a smile beaming across his face. "Order Admiral Longstaff to put to sea, and get yourself with your men as soon as possible."

Crewe saluted and left the room, closing the door behind him. Poltov turned to his chief aide, Colonel Eli Dwight, and said, "Order the ground crews to prepare my plane, by the time everything is ready and we've reached the coast, our ground troops should have taken an airport."

"Yes, sir!" Dwight replied, cheerily saluting and straightening out his crisp dress uniform. He turned smartly and jogged from the room towards the airbase.

Romulus General Edgar Crewe walked slowly through the empty Hall of Honor on the way to the school's auditorium where the officers of the 18th Armoured Corps were gathered. He checked his watch, 'bugger... five minutes late...' He approached the double doors and nodded at the two military policemen who opened the doors for him.

"Finally..." Major General Elwin Travis muttered to Major General Amsel who sat next to him.

"My apologies, ladies and gentlemen... Field Marshall Poltov kept me back a little while, now let us begin." Using his Stratopad, he wirelessly uploaded the operational plans to the projector which projected the image onto the large screen. "This here," Crewe began, pointing at a small town on the map, "Is the city of Coos Bay, it has a population of 16,000 residents, a small airport which will be the main objective of the marine forces that accompany us ashore and a high concentration of medical facilities. It is also a prime target for a marine landing."



"The Marines themselves will land on the beach near Charlestown here, they will then march on the town and seize the bridge across the river. When 18th Corps has landed in force, the combined strength of 18th Corps and the marine forces will march on Barview and then on Coos Bay itself while under the cover of artillery fire from the fleet as well as air support from the HMNS Falcon. After taking the town and its airport by force, 18th Corps will drive as fast as possible up to Albany where it will join up with 3rd Army. After linking up, both units will drive forward to Portland and launch an attack on the city... Now, any questions?"

Nobody raised their hand. "Very good." Crewe said, "Now, get to your ships, we will be putting out to sea in one hour."

The Comms Officer turns away from his station, looking towards Vice-Admiral Anzai. The admiral notices, and raises an eyebrow. "Yes?"

"Sir, we've received message from high command. The exercise is a go."

"Understood."

Leaning forward to turn on the fleet communication channel, he speaks evenly, his voice broadcasted to all ships currently under his command. "All ships of Task Force Niitaka, this is Vice-Admiral Anzai speaking. As I make this announcement, we will be passing by the Hawaii Islands, and entering the AO. I'm sure you've all been briefed on what is to come, so all I ask of you is what we've always been asking of our men since the dawn of our nation. That each man do his utmost. That is all. Anzai, out."

As the admiral switches off the mic, his XO, who had been waiting beside, cleared his throat softly. "Sir, according to the exercise brief provided by our hosts, we are to expect presence of submarines in the region. Given the distance from the Washington-Oregon coast, it would most probably be Tigershark and Revenge-class nuclear submarines. There is no info on any presence of surface vessels in the Pacific, though intercepted transmissions suggest Higher Japanese surface vessels at Newport Naval Base, covered by air patrols with no reports of movement."

Anzai nods. "In that case, usual SOP for ASW ops then. Get the ASW squadrons airborne, conduct search operation in front of the task force's route. 149 Squadron (airborne early warning) will coordinate the operation and report any findings, and 131 Squadron (electronic-warfare) will provide cover for the other squadrons. DesDiv 23 and 35 are to follow behind for local anti-submarine patrol, and tell the cruisers maintain alert level for anti-air. Any reports from SubDiv 5?"

"No contact prior to last report, about 10 minutes ago. They should be about 30 klicks ahead, and we'll meet them in 2 hours."

"Very well. Tell them to maintain course, I intend to have them keep an eye on the naval bases once we reach the shore. As for the fleet, maintain formation and bearing towards Washington."

"Yes sir." The XO nods, and returns to his station to transmit the orders.

F.S.S. Renegade a Revenge class SSGN of the Finnian Navy 396 miles east of Honolulu
Renegade was an old boat the second of the Revenge class SSGN submarines the oldest class of submarine still in service with the Finnian navy, old as she might be her design an improvement on the Soviet Oscar class submarine she was still quiet with both of her S8G reactors on a low setting almost a hole in the water but still no tigershark. The Revenge class SSGN's 56 cruise missiles designed to sink or at least cripple an aircraft carrier she had one job the Renegade to destroy carriers and capital ships.

"Sir, we've just passed Hawaii." The XO of Kinzo notified VADM Anzai. "No contact by the ASW team, though Sawayuki and Kanmon are reporting minor disturbances."

"Hmmm... call it a gut feeling. Have the ASW team continue their search. Tell DesDiv 35 to spread out to cover more lateral area, DesDiv 23 are to withdraw to the main fleet to form an outer perimeter beyond the cruisers. Also, alter the inner circle. Seto shall cover the 11 o'clock sector, and destroyer Kii will take the 1 o'clock sector."

"Yes sir."

"Also, scramble 121 Squadron for CAP covering 149 and 131. Any reports from SubDiv 5?"

The Comms Officer turns around at that point. "No confirmed contact, sir, though they reported sonar disturbances ahead of the fleet."

Anzai nods, "Tell them to enter high alert status and prepare for contact, and convey the same to the ASW team."

'Sir, long range recon planes have found the fleet and base, their base is located at pearl harbor, and the fleet is still within the vicinity of the base, course of action."
"Sir, the bloaters and the clickers have been disapproved by the empress, and as such we have no access to them."
"Fine, prepare 2 bomber wings and 4 escort wings for a high altitude bombing attack, our main goal in this attack is to destroy their carriers, and hopefully disable their base, load the bombers with armor piercing incendiary bombs, and equip the fighters with anti land type 3 rockets, and all radars are to be activated, and put all units on high alert and get them to prepare defenses, we are facing a full scale invasion."

The plan changes...

Having discovered the submarine concentration in the Pacific, as well as the large groups of defending forces in the landing areas, Admiral Longstaff will instead make every caution possible. Deploying his destroyers (which have been reinforced by another 8 Octavian Class Destroyers and 12 Hadrian Class Frigates) and other screens in a protective vee with the carriers in the centre and the capital ships surrounding them. Recon runs have stumbled on something very disturbing...

1st Carrier Fleet (w)

Admiral Alfred Longstaff sat on one of the comfortable sofas in the officer's lounge, he took occasional sips at an increasingly warm snifter of brandy. His officers occasionally brought reports to him, but nothing urgent, he was quite contempt to sit in his relaxed position for the rest of the journey. Although... He had responsibilities, he didn't want his fleet to be caught off guard by enemy submarines... He rose from the sofa and took a last gulp of his drink before setting the empty glass down on a nearby table and making his way up to the bridge.

"Admiral on the bridge..." An officer reported, triggering all men on the bridge to snap into hasty but smart salutes. Admiral Longstreet nodded as he passed by each one.

"Gentlemen," he said to the more superior officers, "Call a staff meeting, all fleet captains are to report to the HMNS Andy's Ready Room in 35 minutes."

Each officer simply saluted again and scurried off to have the messages delivered.

35 Minutes Pass...

"Officers of the Fleet. Please sit..." Admiral Longstaff gestured around the HMNS Andy's ready room for all of the officers to sit down. "Shall I begin?" He asked, rhetorically. "Ladies and Gentlemen, our fleet has just been reinforced by 20 more screens which forms a total number of 37. I wish for these screens to form a protective vee around the fleet with several token vessels acting as a rearguard. As a side note, I wish for all helicopters to be launched twice an hour to make sweeps of the area ahead with ASWD (Anti-Submarine-Warfare and Detection) mountings attached. I want as much power as possible rerouted to ASW until we near the coastline."

The room was deadly silent, nobody moved or talked. Everyone could tell that there was something on Admiral Longstaff's mind that was bothering him.

"Actually, there's something else... Our recon aircraft have discovered the enemy are concentrating armoured units along the road towards Portland so Field Marshall Poltov has ordered an attack further north, the 3rd Army and 18th Corps will land and move south as fast as possible down to Portland. This will be coordinated by an airborne attack involving paras and glider troops which will take Portland, dig in and hold the city until 3rd Army and 18th Corps arrive. Our job is to provide shore bombardment and aerial cover. As well as keeping the enemy naval forces at bay... Any questions?"

"Sir, i think we overlooked something important, if all divisions are going to protect coos bay, who will protect Portland if they decide to land closer to it." The comms officer suggest."

"Tch, we didn't take that into account, send in the last bomber wing and escort wings along with the air supremacy wings to patrol over the area, give them permission to fire at will, divert the homeland defense army to Portland."

"Yes sir, the aircraft attack group will be attacking in roughly an hour, expect results soon."

"Sir, we have a transmission from our allies, they need us to cover Washington, and as such, i suggest relocating to Tacoma and Seattle and moving the ships to kitsap naval base, and our air forces should land and wait at McChord field."

"Fine then, relocate all forces to the north, get all the troops there through air, and prepare the ships."

Our support will be our own artillery which we will hide in the west hills helicopters from the air mobile divisions and air force fighter bombers and strike aircraft. The 212th Ranger Brigade will be setting up forward observation posts on all highways north and west of portland. Forward air Controllers will be riding shotgun with each chalk, your to report contact and delay the enemies advance when reasonably safe to do so. Any questions Men?" the General finished

"Thank you sailor, Jesus 37 escort vessels, they must have gotten a wild hair or we or one of our sister ships has tripped a sonar on something I don't like it, sonar do we have the Vionna-Frankenlischian fleet on the screen?" asked Captin murphy
"Yes Captain, we have a huge fleet moving on bearing 321 but I couldnt tell you which ship is which" Replied the sonar man
"Weapons how close are we to a solution with a 80% hit rate?" asked the Captain
"Captain, solution is at 70%, we're in range but if we wait for the next ROrSat pass and launch with that data and sonars data I would say we have a 80% chance of successful strike on target" Reported the weapons officer
"Very well make the preparations, firm up your solutions the next pass is in a few hours we will launch and head to an intercept location where we will target any vessels who survive our strike." explained Capt Murphy

"Bridge, this is Alpha Bird, our shift is nearly over, requestion permission to return to Seeker..."

"Hold on, let me just confirm that."

"Sure thing, Bridge, we got all the time in the world."

"Hey, uhh... We're getting Hydroacoustic readings just south of your position, below the Hashirajiman Fleet. Would you mind checking it out? We'll get Bravo Bird prepped while you're at it."

"No problem, Bridge, we'll get it done."

The helicopter turned and swung south as the three man crew prepped scanners and sensors, as well as deep-sea depth charges. The Westland Lynx made it's way slowly towards the reported position, making sure to fly the Imperial Naval Ensign as it passed over the Hashirajiman Fleet below. As it approached the position, the crew turned on various sensors and prepared radar beacons to signal the location, incase they found anything. Upon reading the results of the scan, Lorne Adenauer, the patrol commander radioed back to the bridge.

"Bridge, do you read me?" He asked hastily.

"Five by five, Alpha Bird." The response came.

"We have a certified enemy contact here! She's a sub of some sort but we can't make out what kind."

"Jesus Christ... We'll send it up the chain, the Admiral will get a message to the Hashirajimans. For now, drop a beacon on her."

"Copy, we'll drop it now and return to Seeker. Recommend you get Bravo Bird here asap to tail the contact."

"Got it, Bravo Bird is already off."

1st Carrier Fleet (w)

"Message for you sir..." An aide brought a radio headset to Admiral Alfred Longstreet.

"Thank you," Longstreet put it on, "Hello?"

"Kingpin? This is Seeker, our Alpha Bird has detected an enemy sub south of the Hashirajiman Fleet, we've beaconed her."

"Good work, Seeker, I'll put the rest of the fleet on alert and get a message to the Hashirajimans."

"Thank you, sir."

Longstreet turned to his aides and officers, "Get a message to the Hashirajimans immediately, Seeker has beaconed an enemy sub just south of their position! Put the fleet on full alert!"

Area above Hawaii:
"Sir, there is no activity sighted at the harbor."
"We have no choice then, release the bombs over the fleet, target the carriers."
Soon after the command was given, bombs fell from above, although due to the altitude, nothing could be seen beyond the clouds.
Coos bay naval base:
"Sir, the air group has dropped bombs over the fleet, only 3 bombers made it back, and no damage recorded, all bombs have reportedly missed, and empress demands that the homeland Defence army to be sent back to make the games fair, and as such, the army has returned back to the mainland."

"Shit, that's a sonar buoy!" announced the senior Sonar man
"Crash dive below the layer" Ordered Captain Murphy "How did they find us?"
"Mam, they must have gotten a hit off of us on a MAD sensor or dipping sonar as we came up for the down link" replied the Sonar man
"Weapons did you get the required targeting data?" Asked the captain
"Yes mam the download was complete prior to the the crash dive" replied the lieutenant in charge of the weapons systems on Renegade
"Very well, we will return to launch depth and launch our missiles, then we will dive deep and head south in hope of breaking contact." Ordered Captain

5 minutes later with out any torpedoes being dropped or further sonar buoys at least active ones the crew could detect Renegade returned to 150 ft of depth and fired her entire magazine of 56 Tigershark stealthy anti-shipping cruise missiles at the Vionna-Frankenlischan fleet the missiles being aimed using sonar and ROrSat info
a SLOT Buoy was launched as well to let finnian fleet HQ know of the attack
Renegade than dove deep and headed south in hopes of avoiding the angry fleets of the Assaulting team

VADM Anzai stood at the control tower of his flagship carrier, enjoying one of his little pastimes - watching the CAP squadrons change over - when suddenly an announcement by his XO sounds out over intercomm, "General Quarters, General Quarters! All hands man your battle stations. The flow of traffic is up and forward on the starboard side, down and aft on the port. All stations to be on ASW highest alert. This is not a drill. I repeat, this is not a dril!" Frowning, he briskly made his way to the CIC.

As he enters the CIC, he was waylaid by his XO, and he could see the tension in that man's face. "SITREP?"

"Sir, we just received transmission from the VF task force. VF Airborne ASW has contact with enemy sub, unknown class, right south of our fleet. Contact made by Kanmon as well, with Iyo, Hiuchi, and Naruto reporting major disturbance south."

Anzai nods. "... so they are within range and yet did nothing. Very well, send Kanmon, Iyo, Hiuchi on ASW engagement, active sonar, southward bearing. Smoke out the enemy, ASROC deployment permitted, and coordinate with VF air ASW. And I want enemy class verification. Naruto is to maintain course and forward ASW alert." The XO nods, and hurries off to convey the orders.

Just then, the Comms Officer yells out,"Sir! Report from Hayashio. SubDiv 5 certified contact with enemy sub, possibly Tigershark-class by sonar signature. Advancing to engage."

"Relay it to surface and air ASW sweep, tell them to advance and engage the enemy sub. I want it dead in the water before it reaches Circle 2."

"Understood, sir."

And call off the southward ASW offensive, tell the ships to return to formation. Also get 353 Squadron to cover the south quadrant, they'll operate off this ship. All ships to maintain highest level ASW alert. We have subs in proximity."

"Wish I could be back in glorious Vladimirska..." Captain Ekaterina Volkov reminisced, sitting in her chair, gulping cold tea.

"You and me both, captain..." Sofya Krupin sat in her own chair, sipping a chilled vodka and listening to the silence that was their communications with the Hashirajiman Fleet.

"Do you remember the zoo, Commander Krupin?" Volkov asked, staring blankly at the sky, "back in Vladimirska, I mean..."

"Of course, captain, the beautiful bears..." Krupin let out an anguished cry as her ear was assaulted by a sudden burst of noise. "Reading you five by five, Kinzo... Cruise Missiles?"

"What's going on, number one?"

"Mam, we have cruise missiles coming in, they are going to pass over the Hashirajiman Fleet on the way here, hopefully, their anti-ballistics and CIWS will take out a few but we need to get all systems and crew braced."

"Got it, number one..." Captain Volkov turned to a plastic handset, she pressed a button which activated the ship's PA system and spoke into the handset frantically. "Cruise missiles incoming, all hands brace for impact, I want damage crews on station. Activate all CIWS and anti-ballistic systems."

Within moments the ship burst into action, the bulkheads were sealed and all main sections of the ship were locked down. Damage repair crews immediately made their way to stations all over the ship, and the radar-guided anti-ballistic missile systems came online. The ship's two helicopters took off to avoid possible damage and act as mobile shields. It took no more than a few minutes for the entire fleet to reach the same level of preparation. All they could do now was wait, and hope...

"Sir, here is an overview of our current forces,
we have 3 air defense wings,
2 air supremacy wings,
1 bomber wing,
2 escort wings,
and 2 recon planes and our prototype land attack bomber.
Currently 3 destroyers and 4 cruisers are patrolling the area,

and all our divisions are stationed at Tacoma and Seattle, that is all."
Yamato Tachi looked at the piece of paper forlornly, realizing that the attack had failed, he told the comms officer:
"Get the head of the patrol division on the line, tell him to return back to Kitsap naval base, and prepare for an air raid, and hurry up with the repairs for the destroyers."

'Yes sir"

He looked out the window of the command center, and looked toward where the invasion would come from, before issuing another order through the speakers:
'All defense wings are to patrol the entire area for any enemy recon planes, you have permission to fire at will."

"Ma'am! We have lock on!" The SAM operator called out.

"Fire!", yelled CAPT Akizuki, the only kanmusu on this exercise due to her position as commander of HS Aki.

"Ma'am, reporting 5 missiles downed!"

"How many are left?" Akizuki asked, concerned.

"Hiuchi reported six downed. Iyo got five as well.", the comms officer reported. Then a faint burst of static,"Suo reporting four hit."

"That makes... 20 with 36 left."

Then Comms yelled out, "35! Bungo had a lucky shot with the Phalanx!"

"Very well. Was any of our ships hit?"

A brief conversation over fleet communications, and Comms shook his head."No ma'am."

"That means..."

Comms frowned, then his eyes widened slightly. "It's going towards the other fleet."

"Inform VF task force that they've 35 missiles going their way. Send the message, quick!"

[Location: HS Harushio, ???, NE of Hawaii]

"Sir, we have torpedo firing solutions on the enemy sub." The warfare officer of HS Harushio said calmly.

The captain, standing behind the station, glanced at the screen for a moment. "Good, fire one spread, then dive and manoeuvre around the sub. Load second spread and wait for Natsushio and Hayashio to engage."

One trigger pull later, and six Type 80 ASW torpedoes sped rapidly towards Hammerhead...

[Location: 155 Squadron-Lead, ???, NE of Hawaii]

'My my.... what do we have here?' thought the pilot of the lead helicopter, 155 Squadron.

Of course, he didn't verbalise it. Instead, he calmly said to his weapons officer. "Do you see that?"

"And also your grin." WO deadpanned. "Torp them out?"

A nod, and two Mark 46 torpedoes sailed briefly through the air before entering the water and heading for the submarine.

"Radio the other guys to keep an eye out, we're heading back for reload."

"Sir!" The XO called out. "Northeast ASW team has commenced engagement. Circle 2 cruisers report 21 missiles down, no hits sustained."

"So they were aiming for the VF task force. Strange..." Mused VADM Anzai. "Are our allies aware?"

"Yes sir."

"Good."

"Captain, we have thirty-five missiles incoming, the fleet is their target."

"Got it, respond in kind..."

"Sorry captain?"

"I want half of our missile cells devoted to shooting down those damn missiles, I want the other half firing cluster depth charge missiles at the source of the enemy missiles. Get to it."

"Yes, mam!"

Straight away, the 48 missile cells mounted aboard the HMNS William the Great burst into action, the remainder of the fleet appeared to have the same plan, the sun was blotted out for moments by the immense dance of projectiles that fought in the sky.

Missile after missile was hit and tumbled harmlessly to the water below in smoking scraps, however, no matter how many were hit there was always going to be several that got through the AA net. The first was a fragmentation warhead that plunged into the deck of HMNS Andy, the flagship of the fleet. Luckily it hit one of the unused areas of the massive deck, causing a fire but not doing any major damage. The second was a direct hit on HMNS Cobalt's no. 3 turret, it was also a fragmentation warhead, the explosion mangled the steel mantle but somehow failed, despite its immense explosive capacity, to penetrate the thick gun mantle fully. After a few minutes, the guns inside were up and running again, although obviously at a much less efficient level.

Finally, several missiles crashed into the sides of the outlying destroyers, luckily, the armour piercing warheads travelled directly through, causing no direct damage. However, it soon became obvious that something was amiss.

"I want damage crews dispatched at once to survey the damage and try their best to repair!"

"Yes, sir!"

The ship's two main Damage Response Crews jumped into action, making their way down the service stairways and rushing to the impact points. Missiles had struck the OD-7 in two places, both luckily above the waterline. As the first Damage Response Crew approached one of the missile impact points, one of the crewmen radioed into the bridge.

"Bridge, we're approaching a closed bulkhead door, can you check what's behind it?" He asked.

"Negative, the camera is out." The reply came.

"Shame, all right, we're going in... Wish us luck."

The radio told a horrific story from then on, a hissing noise, presumably from a heat-proof glove pressing against a hot door handle. And then, a short rolling noise of the door being opened. Shock hit the bridge as a horrendous scream passed through the radio before it cut out. After a brief interval, the second Damage Response Crew reported a major flash fire on the auxiliary deck. Soon after, the lights shorted out and the radio lost all signal.

"Shit..." Commander Delany murmured, "There goes the electric generators... Switch to reserve batteries, I only need to send one message to the crew..."

The officers and crew on the bridge looked up at him melancholically, a tear-faced midshipman replied, "Are you sure, sir?"

"Yes..." Delany picked up the intercom handset and spoke across the whole ship: "Ladies and Gentlemen, our ship has clearly been struck by a thermobaric weapon, as opposed to a conventional weapon as first thought. Our auxiliary systems are down and we are facing an imminent second blackout, we have recieved reports from OD-9 and a Hadrian Frigate that the same thing has happened to them... Sailors, Officers and Marines, I am ordering you to abandon ship."

Hammerheads power plant went to full power, and her pump jet propulser quickly pushed the ship towards 35 knots, and with in minutes she was at her top speed of 46 knots! her 8 mk 48 ADCAP torpedoes heading back towards the unknown Hashirajima submarine.
"Sir, two more torpedoes in the water, they appear to be some sort of air dropped torp they're pinging not sure weather they have us." Reported sonar
"Launch the MoSS, now!" Capt. Collin ordered
a Mobile Submarine Simulator was fired and began playing a recording of Hammerhead at full speed in hopes of drawing off the torpedoes
with in 3 minutes 2 of the 8 torpedoes had failed to lock on to Hammerhead, 3 had chased after MoSS decoys or gascan noise makers, but still three followed and closed on hammerhead as she neared 850 m of depth.

the turn was the wrong move, a type 80 torpedo cut the curve and caught the rushing Hammerhead, the 267 kg warhead detonated and popped the shaft seal and at 895 m depth a popped shaft seal was death.

The captain nods, then calls out to the helmsman. "Take her down. FLOOD TANKS!"

"Yes sir!", echoed across the clustered chambers as sailors rushed to their dive stations.

"Report!" Yelled out the captain.

"No hits, sir. Think they sailed right past."

"That's good. Head on and return to formation."

"Yes, sir."

"Sir! Observation reporting two VF-TF destroyer and one frigate abandoned." The comms officer said, pulling off his headphones and turning to face VADM Anzai.

The admiral nods, his face grim. "So it is. No matter, proceed as planned. Any news from the ASW teams?"

"Haruna's last report stated six sub torpedoes and two air torpedoes launched. Two hits confirmed by Harushio, enemy sub sunk. Iyo reports all clear, no sight of enemy submarine." The XO said, glancing at his screen readout.

"Maintain ASW alert levels. I believe our allies have an ASW team on the prowl, and I think we should join them."

"But sir... that leaves a gap in our defences.

"No, only thin it a little. Better to remove a known threat than to leave it at our backs."

The XO nods, awaiting, as Anzai ponders his fleet for a moment.

"Right. Send Kanmon, Naruto, and Hiuchi after our prey, 353 Squadron will cover aerial. Link up with VF air ASW."

"Yes sir."

"Now, for the main fleet. Circle 1, Kii will take over Naruto, Kitan to cover SE. Circle 2, Seto is to cover NE, Aki SW, Iyo shift to SE, and both Iyo and Suo adjust to level between us and the support ships."

"Understood, sir." The XO walks briskly towards his station, quickly disseminating the new orders.

We must make sure that such a disaster will not happen again, the enemy are unlikely to commit more submarines, they have already lost one and the other is as good as sunk already. Their surface fleet would be obliterated the second they got within range. They have only one hope, their planes... I want the Condor, the Falcon and the Eagle to launch interceptor patrols, I want 24/7 air cover for the fleet. Relay the message to the Hashirajimans that we require cooperation from them until our forces split up."

"Yes sir..."

"Good. I also want to reduce the amount of time until destination, If we need to relax our ASW efforts and leave that to the Hashirajimans then so be it. Every second we stay out here in the open sea is an invitation for the enemy to try an attack. I suggest that the Hashirajimans do the same."

"Very good, sir."

"Oh, and one more thing..."

"Sir?"

"Tell General Ostrowski that he has the all clear from me to launch his paratroopers."
