A Dragon Once

The United Morimpan Republics was once a sprawling empire, stretching from the furthest reaches of the Orion arm to the core of the galaxy. Those worlds it inhabited were decked with giant float continents which sat upon vast oceans. Those world that it terraformed were now in ruins, with artificial landmasses sunken at the bottom of their watery tombs. Those worlds that were graced by the touch of the Dragon were cleansed, their natives either ascended into morimpan society or descended into the footnotes of history.
But nothing can truly withstand the test of time. Over the years, the empire shrunk and was divided by none other than itself. The United Morimpan Republics, no longer united, fragmented into shards. Their territories split, their people scattered, their worlds in ruins. The factions warred each other into oblivion and the vengeful remains of the peoples they pushed to the edges of the galaxy swooped in and take back what was once theirs. And then they take a bit more, biting chunks off the already rapidly disappearing morimpa empire.
The remnants of the crumbling empire lay open to be claimed by the power that be. The ruins of the once great precursor race tell no more than the tale of what once was and never will be. Tatters of the old race still live on in the rims of Orion, jealously protecting the relics of their empire. That was until the Spice Wars ravaged the Galaxy and the morimpa, stirred by the call to arms, converged and returned to the galactic stage after centuries of silence.
United once more, the children of the dead imperium stood poised to carve out a new empire. Or die trying. As their imperial war fleets, composed of both antique artefacts and modern war steel lined the edges of Orion, the galaxy responded in similar kind. Nations from all over the newborn galaxy mobilised their forces. The Spice Wars concluded with the formation of the New United Morimpan Republics which, along with several allied nations, were able to crushed their enemies and siezed territory arcoss Orion, relinking all of Morimpan Republics into a single unified nation once.
However, as the Spice Wars drew to a close a new war was dawning on the horizon. Still hungry after the territories they annexed during the Spice Wars, they now look further into the stars of Orion. The New United Morimpan Republics (NUMR) galvanised their warmachine back into action once more as the need for imperial expansion grew in their unsatisfied dreams and vengeful hearts. A dragon never truly dies; his legacies always live on in one form or another. And this time, the galaxy was ready for them.
The Morimpae Reclaimations, as it was called, started with the invasion of the neutral homelands of the Gel'durk peoples, the system of Rastho Prime. The system was an absolutely vital strategic point as from there, the Morimpans could launch massive spearheads of troops and equipment across into the Persius Arm in any direction it pleases. As a result, any attempt to stop the NUMR must start with retaking the system of Rastho Prime. Gel'durk rebels have begun an attempt to retake their home, but they cannot succeed without the support of other governments. Their calls to the stars have been answered.
