WAHDABAD SENTINEL
YOUNG MARTYRS GAIN FOOTHOLD IN JAF, SECURITY FORCES ON THE RETREAT
In a statement released at 5:30 AM local time, a Zevriti National Army official, who declined to give his name, confirmed rumors that the army group engaged in fighting radical Islamic militants in Jaf is now withdrawing. He went on to add that the withdraw is only “temporary”, and that the forces will be returning to regime-controlled territory to be replenished and possibly relieved by other units. The aforementioned statement marks the first time that regime forces have lost significant ground in the now year-long conflict with the Young Martyrs and affiliated militant groups, and may possibly signal the balance is tipping in favor of the latter.

The conflict in Jaf began in the later-half of the Arab Spring, with Islamic fundamentalist groups engaging in thousands-strong protests against the secular regime in place under President Abdul Malik al-Saqqaf. The protests were initially met with offers of negotiation from the government, but soon deteriorated after a number of leaders within the reform movements were found dead within their homes and workplaces. As with most stages of conflict in other nations during the Arab Spring, protests devolved into large-scale clashes between demonstrators and police. By June of 2015, martial law was implemented in half of Zevretin’s major governorates, in an effort to suppress dissent. This was met with fierce armed resistance on the part of the fundamentalists, who organized into a militant group by the name of Shuhada Alshshabab, or “Young Martyrs”. Groups from outside Zevretin have pledged their support for the Young Martyrs, including Ansar al-Sharia and Al-Qaeda.

Fighting has largely been concentrated in the easternmost regions of the country, especially within the Jaf Governorate. Until now, regime forces have been successful in their efforts to hold back the aggressive advances of the militants, isolating them to the cities of Aizdihar, Nitaq, and Manar (along with some minor villages linking them together). For the time being, there is no knowledge of why the regime was forced to retreat, and if militants are in control of any cities beyond their strongholds. President Saqqaf is expected to issue a statement on the advancement of the conflict later today.

---------------------------------------------------

JAF GOVERNORATE, ZEVRETIN
Zevriti Republican Guard, 3rd Motorized Infantry Brigade, Company A
4:23 AM

Fahim had been in one too many skirmishes to count, and here he was faced with just one more- and yet this time, he was afraid. Shrapnel tore through the driver’s side of the Hilux technical to his left, nearly tipping it over as he ducked behind it for cover. Surrounding him was the last village before endless plains that marked Jaf’s westernmost border, now dotted with convoys of retreating regime tanks and troop carriers. Before he could turn, yet another chunk of shrapnel struck the technical, this time burying itself near the bumper with a loud screech. Forced with fight or flight, Fahim chose the latter, holding his AK-74m above his head and firing blindly in the direction of the advancing enemy. After squeezing off several rounds, he pushed himself onto his feet, sprinting into an adjacent alleyway alongside his comrades. A boy (by most standards) new to the unit covered their retreat, pushing the stock of his PKM into his belly as he fired. He sprayed in long bursts as he back-peddled, screaming vulgarities of all kinds as he did so. On the opposite side of the dirt road, other members of Fahim’s unit squeezed off volleys of fire behind the cover of another vehicle. Although this blockade was very crude, it had proved extremely useful against the ill-equipped militants that had been charging the village entrance for over an hour. Now in the alleyway, Fahim turned toward the others across the road, waving them away desperately so as to prevent their own deaths. After only a couple more seconds of exchanging fire, the group opposite Fahim took his advice and scurried down the road toward the next barricade; amid a hailstorm of bullets and rockets. Fahim split his group in half, diverting the boy with the PKM onto the rooftop with a veteran while motioning for the rest to retreat with the others. They nodded quickly, wordlessly jogging through the bullet-riddled ruins of the village they had called home for around a month. Having been there for so long, the unit knew every place to lay traps and every road to barricade in a last-ditch effort to defend the village.

As the thunder of gunfire grew ever closer to the entrance, Fahim clambered up a ladder onto the rooftop of one of the huts, meeting eyes with the boy and his partner on a roof just up ahead. He then turned back toward the second blockade down the road; the other men now readied in their firing positions at different angles. He reached behind him and pulled his radio from the back of his utility belt, bringing it up to his face.

“You all appear ready. Don’t worry, brothers, we won’t be martyrs today. Give me just minutes more and we will leave this place for good.”

A number of confirming replies crackled through the speaker of the radio, until Fahim at last switched the volume dial low and placed it beside him. He then squirmed forward, lying prone and pressing his weight into the stock of his Kalashnikov as the shouting of the enemy was resounding and close. Fahim closed his eyes for just a moment, in silent prayer, before they shot open at the first burst of PKM fire. The boy and his partner were already engaging militants at the entrance, clearly hitting true. Fahim racked back the bolt to his AK in anticipation, squinting his right eye shut and diverting all his effort into controlling his breathing. On the rooftop ahead of him, the boy laid hunkered down behind the edging of the roof as rounds impacted in and around the thick concrete. Meanwhile, the veteran soldier to his right burned through magazines in a vain effort to suppress the endless flow of fire and men that now flooded into the ruins.

Fahim himself was now engulfed in enemy fire, pressing himself into the concrete as best as he could as he attempted to focus in on the enemy combatants, now darting about aimlessly for cover. His eyes immediately snapped to a head resting behind his former position at the technical, and he promptly turned his rifle to face it. He exhaled, squeezing the trigger two times. In spite of the recoil, a fine mist accompanied the explosion of the figure as they slumped over onto the dirt. His gaze now snapped onto yet another silhouette, to which he fired another two times. The figure was punched backwards in a geyser of red and onto his back, writhing. A scream snapped Fahim out of his trance, and brought him scrambling from his vantage point back toward the ladder. His eyes darted to the roof ahead of him, confirming his fears. The boy lie in a fetal position over a pool of blood and shell casings, his PKM likely dropped in the alleyway below. Fahim’s eyes traveled further as he moved, only to meet with the veteran, who was now withdrawing himself. The two were mutually aware that without the suppression and force multiplier capabilities of the PKM, there was no use in staying. They would only be picked off.

A couple more footsteps and ragged breaths brought Fahim to the ladder, to which he swung one leg over and slid down. Explosions could be heard up ahead- the jihadists had already made it to the second blockade. Fahim cursed loudly and spun around, running and turning into numerous alleys in no particular order, simply to avoid running into one of the Martyrs. His wish was spat on by chance when a jihadist briefly paused in his step directly in front of Fahim. Fahim stopped as well, bringing his Kalashnikov to his shoulder and wrapping his finger round the trigger as the jihadist himself met eyes with him. Self-doubt was death. A dirt-caked finger squeezed the trigger rapidly.

Just up ahead, the blockade was being hammered by small arms fire seemingly on all sides. The remnants of the company had taken a beating relative to their size, though they inflicted significantly more damage to the advancing jihadists, primarily due to booby traps. Even still, a literal pile of bodies had gathered at the barricade, cut down by sharpshooters and machine guns planted in huts surrounding the main road. In essence, this had become a kill zone. The orders had been clear: inflict as much damage as possible, and wait it out until support arrived. This long into the skirmish, it didn’t seem as though anyone believed there would be any support.

Fahim continued past the bloodied corpse of his former adversary and into the street, his mindset still rooted in self-preservation. He quickly switched out magazines, tucking the used one in a back pouch before advancing. The gunfire seemed endless, with lulls few and far between. He started to realize his deviations from the path had got him lost, and the only thing to prove he was going the right way was the direction the bodies were facing on the road perpendicular to his. He nodded to himself quickly, choosing not to advance through the killzone but to simply continue in its general direction. As he grew closer the voices of both friend and foe alike could be heard, as the battle had deteriorated into grueling close-quarters combat. Spotting a gathering of militants at the end of the alleyway, Fahim ducked into another to his right, only to find a pair lying low on their haunches at the very end. He clenched his jaw, knowing he was closed in. He darted behind a nearby dumpster, watching the movements of the duo ahead intently. Amid the chaos, he could still decipher some of their words.

“…this goes…yes, yes, it’s loaded.”

“…-ake the safety cap off, idiot!”

“…God is Great, God is Great…”

Fahim’s eyes grew wide as he watched. It was clear they were loading an RPG or some form of launcher, likely to destroy the barrier ahead. Shaking with adrenaline, he rested the barrel of his AK atop the dumpster, flicking the RoF to automatic. As he prepared to fire, their words bled through the fighting yet again.

“…where the fuck…they going?”

“…-on’t know, fire it already! Fire, fire!”

Just as one of the insurgents mounted the weapon on his shoulder, Fahim let loose with his Kalashnikov. The two were ripped apart and sent limp into the dirt, their launcher hitting the ground with a metallic ping. Fahim stood up and ran toward them, crouching in their former position and peaking his head around the corner. Sure enough, the blockade stood empty. Had support finally come? Why hadn’t they said anything? He then reached for his radio, releasing its pouch was empty. He had left it on the roof.

“Fuck!” He groaned, standing up and propelling himself across the road, careful not to trip over any bodies. He began to grow worried as he clearly crossed the line into regime positions, and no one was present, save for a few of the dead. It seemed as though the insurgents in other parts of the village had not yet realized their withdrawal either, as there was no other movement. He made every attempt to conjure up the memory of the rendezvous point as he jogged, his heart sinking as nothing surfaced. He began to hear the rhythmic chop of helicopter blades somewhere in the sky ahead, though the clouds concealed it. Step after step, Fahim was losing hope, seemingly trapped in the walled-off ruin. Soon enough, footsteps accompanied his. His eyes grew wide, and after a few seconds more he turned, his rifle shouldered. To his luck, it was the soldier who accompanied the boy on the roof.

“We need to move. I know where to go.”

“Alright.”

“Yeah.”

The two huffed as they moved, their breathing ragged from doing so the past half hour, until they at last reached a small, man-made hole in the wall. The soldier ducked under it ahead of him, Fahim then following suit. As the two continued their pace, the thump of the helicopter blades became ear-splitting…enough so to draw Fahim’s attention. It was now hanging over the village, the intention clear. Fahim turned his head and ran with a newfound strength. As he did so, a rear hatch opened on the chopper, and out of it spiraled a crude but brutally effective weapon. The noise was deafening as it impacted. Fahim and his companion were thrown onto their knees by the shockwave, and only seconds after everything was deathly silent, save for the gradually quieter thump of the helicopter as it withdrew. Fahim rolled over, grimacing.

The entire village had been absolutely leveled. A cloud of dust hung over the destruction. Fahim pushed himself onto his feet, glancing over at his partner.

“…I never asked your name.” Fahim said, his voice quivering at the sudden loss of adrenaline.

“Rhana.” The soldier muttered, removing his helmet.

Fahim nodded, and turned toward the plains before them.

“They’ve only got a couple minutes’ lead on us. We should keep moving.”

“Alright brother. I’m with you.”

The pair trudged on, not caring to turn back and take in the death behind them.

WAHDABAD SENTINEL
PRESIDENT SAQQAF ISSUES BRIEF STATEMENT ON JAF CONFLICT, FOREIGN INTERVENTION

In a statement issued much later than expected, President Saqqaf has officially confirmed rumors of regime forces withdrawing from their positions in the Jaf Governorate. In spite of this, he added that security forces have inflicted severe casualties on the Young Martyrs and their supporters, and will continue to do so following the relief of units formerly embroiled in the prime of the conflict. He went on to condemn any attempts made on the behalf of the international community to aid the Young Martyrs, declaring them "a dangerous group of fanatics, dedicated solely to dismantling the progress achieved under the Social Republic...any nation who declares their support for these monsters, declares their support for international terrorism as well."

Recently numerous countries have criticized Saqqaf for his dismissal of international law in the use of munitions, as well as the treatment of civilians caught in the crossfire. Saqqaf did not make any comment on this during his speech, using the time entirely for criticizing the Young Martyrs and their continued rebellion.

Below is a transcript of Saqqaf's statement this morning in Wahdabad:
Good morning my friends. Are we ready?

Right.

Earlier this week, security forces within the Jaf Governorate withdrew with the intention of re-supplying and relieving themselves after months of intense fighting, with seemingly no end in sight. Many of these brave warriors were indeed martyred, and I believe we all can appreciate their sacrifice.

Let it be known now, before I continue, that this is not by any means a rebellion. Those media outlets, national and international alike, are mistaken in this assumption. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are mistaken, rather than outright lying. No- these men are a dangerous group of fanatics, dedicated solely to dismantling the progress achieved under the Social Republic. They are not here to liberate anyone, they are not here to make a true difference. They do not believe in our progressive way of life. I'll have the world know that these men have taken to massacring Shiite and Christian minorities, kidnapping young boys for service, and implementing Sharia law in areas under their control. This is common practice with these animals. I cannot emphasize this enough- the Young Martyrs are a terrorist organization, and we will treat them as such. It's quite simple.

This brings me to my next point. It is within my knowledge that numerous nations have publicly and privately pledged their support for the Young Martyrs over the course of this week. Out of respect, I will not state names. However, I would again remind these particular nations what they are supporting through their pledge- rapists, kidnappers, and murderers. I would like to add, as well, that this conflict in not their business in the first place, but rather that of Zevretin and Zevretin only. Foreign intervention, particularly ground troops, is simply unacceptable, and will be dealt with appropriately. I ask of these countries: withdraw your support, and quite frankly, go about your business. I've no quarrel with you otherwise. If, however, you continue on this path of supporting a destructive and hateful group for means I could only guess, you are one in the same.

Thank you for your time, friends. God is Great.

The Islamic Republic of Balagan commends the terrorist aggression against the Arab Social Republic of Zevretin. The perversion of Islam by paid agents of neo-colonial forces is a dangerous development. The Islamic Republic of Balagan opposes terrorism where ever it is found. We pledge support to the government of Zevretin to stop the terrorists from gaining more ground.

Official Statement from the Government of Kalinin K-7
The Government of Kalinin K-7 would like to announce that they support the Young Matyrs. Though Kalinin K-7 is strictly against the actions of Ansar al-Sharia and Al-Qaeda, supporters of the Young Matyrs, the Government firmly believes that the Young Matyrs are good-intentioned and that the Government of Zevretin is thoroughly corrupt. After monitoring the progress of the Young Matyrs in the Jaf Governorate, Zevretin, the Military Bureau of Kalinin K-7 has officially decided to intervene in the small conflict between the Islamic militants and the Government of Zevretin and will begin to support the Young Matyrs in their operations. Kalinin K-7 will also bring in their own troops to more effectively fight against the corrupt Zevretinian government.

Nitaq, Jaf Governorate, Arab Social Republic of Zevretin

In the small city of Nitaq, an eastern border settlement in the Jaf Governorate, the Kalinin K-7 Commander-in-Chief negotiates a treaty with the leader of the Young Matyrs, Assad Ahim. Having arrived in a private military jet, the signing of the historic Kalinin K-7 and Young Matyrs Military Treaty signals for a black cloud of aircraft to begin landing at the rustic Nitaq Airport.

Official Statement of the Wankan Foreign Ministry

The Wankan administration condemns the escalation of violence in Zevriti and is particularly concerned about the fate of innocent civilians caught in the crossfire between regime and rebel forces. We also condemn the indiscriminate attacks on civilians by the Zevriti National Army, that of which has killed, according to reliable sources, up to fifty civilians and maimed hundreds more. We have also confirmed the use of barrel bombs and other destructive weaponry on civilians in the Jaf Governorate. We warn Zevriti that further attacks upon its own citizens will result in severe repercussions. The uprising in Zevriti is clearly a sign of discontent against the oppressive policies of the Zevriti government and we urge the latter to take into consideration its people's demands.

Furthermore, we call on all sides to immediately cease fighting and commence negotiations, to work toward a peaceful resolution of the crisis.

"If these Jihadists could be 'removed' with our help, we could possibly gain more support from the international community and make the region a safer place. One could go so far and say that non-Communist nations that have viewed us in a negative light could view us positively if we show ourselves proven to combat Wahabism and Islamic Fundamentalism in the region," said someone.

Men and women sat in the Parliment House. It was being decided on whether the People's Republic would lend it's support to Zevriti to combat the Jihadist threat that was infesting it's Jaf Region. President Adawiyah watched the parliament in session in deep thought.

"But if we intervene, we will waste the lives of our servicemen!" said someone else. Adawiyah stood up. "Those in favor of intervening say 'Aye' and those who are not say 'Nay'." said Adawiyah. The speaker of the house turned around and nodded. "Please continue with the voice vote," said the speaker. A resounding sound of 'Aye' and 'Nay' reverberated around the room. The 'Aye' was heard slightly louder than the 'Nay'.

"I think the Ayes have it." said the speaker. After several hours, Adawiyah and her several guards returned to the Presidential Palace satisfied. They were going to aid the government of Zevriti against the Jihadists...

The Arab Social Republic graciously accepts offers from both Balagan and Abudlistan alike in regards to both ground and air support. Additionally, President Saqqaf personally congratulates the nations' respective leaders for joining in the fight against fundamentalists, whose motivations for such aggression are largely unknown and indeed suspicious. The Arab Social Republic of Zevretin appreciates the Wankan Foreign Ministry and its respective host nation for concern expressed in regards to the ongoing conflict in the Jaf Governorate. However, the Republic would like to remind the ministry of prior measures undertaken to reach peace with the fundamentalists, and what little the effort yielded. The Republic would also like to assure that all civilians currently taking residency in Jaf are taken into consideration before initiating any sort of attack, in an effort to reduce unnecessary loss of innocent lives. It is advised, however, that the foreign ministry mind itself before making baseless accusations- this includes the mere rumor of the use of illegal munitions as well.

Leadership within the Young Martyrs receives the telegram sent by Cesopium and Kalinin through machines within the abandoned consulate in Nitaq. During a lull in a regime artillery strike, leaders compose a brief and somewhat frazzled message.

The Young Martyrs are very pleased at the prospect of an alliance between Cesopium, Kalinin K-7 and the caliphate developing in the three cities of Nitaq, Aizdihar, and Manar. In regards to Cesopium's proposed construction of chapterhouses within the borders of the aforementioned caliphate, we find this completely agreeable. Respected brothers will await your arrival at the front line and brief you with any relevant information pertaining to the conflict. God be with you.

Confirmation came into the office of Ingwer Simon, Legate of the IV Legion. Zevretin had confirmed the offer they had made, he was quite happy to this. Ringing up Colonel Water Milek of the "Young Martyr" Regiment sent to the conflict, he was given his orders to help the Young Martyrs to the regiment's destruction should it be so. Aware of how hard it would be to reform and reinforce their forces if they were destroyed in the conflict the colonel nodded and shrugged off the orders but understood what must be done.

The Legate ended the call, Walter would break up the regiment into three separate battalions of Legionnaires to each be transported to the front, 1st Battalion(800) would be sent to the city of Nitaq, 2nd Battalion(600) to the city of Aizdihar, 3rd Battalion(600) to the city of Manar. Transportation would be provided with the 12 Mil Mi-30s aboard CSS Antioch-3, 6 to 1st Battalion, 3 to 2nd Battalion, 3 to the 3rd Battalion. The 4 Mil Mi-26s would be divided up with 2 to the dedication of the 1st Battalion, 1 to the 2nd Battalion, and 1 to the 3rd Battalion. The 7 Mil-Mi 28s divided up as well, 4 to the 1st Battalion, 2 to the 2nd Battalion, and 2 to the 3rd Battalion. Colonel Milek gathered his 3 Lieutenant Colonels to lead the Battalions into the fight from the front.Lieutenant Colonel Henning Itzen would lead the 1st, Lieutenant Colonel Levin Nuhr the 2nd, Lieutenant Colonel Rolf Cruewell the 3rd.

Flight crews were readied and instructed on their operations, Legionnaires began packing up for the fight. Inspecting their equipment to the best they possibly they could, they readied themselves packing up their gear, putting on their battle dress. Each man picked up his M4 and exited out to the flight deck. Flight deck crews scrambled to the helicopters as the crews climbed in, the first wave of the battalions prepared themselves. Each Lieutenant Colonel climbed into the very first Mil Mi-30 to show bravery and courage to their men who considered it a honor to sit with their commander who would die with them instead who would sit far in the back away from the fighting. Helicopter one after another began taking off toward the cities of Nitaq, Aizdihar, and Manar

A Legionnaire of the "Young Martyrs" Regiment

This was Legionnaires Rinke's first battle. He had been trained so long and put through so much testing to get this far into the Legions. All of this, he thought, the 19 year-old had been through school and immediately went to join the Legions after school. Absawgah, the divine one would want this right? Right? He could only believe that he did, he leaned back staring around the helicopter he saw a long line of other Legionnaires sitting infront of him and beside of him. He was aboard the 1st Mil-Mi 26 of the 1st Battalion behind the Mil Mi-30 carrying Lieutenant Colonel Itzen. Awaiting for the chaos that would erupt as they approached Shuhada Alshshabab airspace.

[Note to everyone: With OP's permission, my puppet nation Ummayah borders Zevriti to the north. Ummayah is itself poor and fighting its own Islamist insurgency+rebellion. The government of Ummayah will be against anyone who supports Islamist militants, however their control over areas in the south (bordering Zevriti) will be near nonexistent, and bribe local tribes to allow you to fly in troops. The government will have really little control over Ummayan ports; however please don't go unloading tanks and driving them through the country.]

To the Young Martyrs

Asalaam-Aleikum, dear brothers in arms,
We, your neighbours to the north, fellow warriors of God, congratulate you on your successful campaign against the infidel Zevriti regime; it is important that the scum of the unbelievers are combated wherever we can and liberate Dar al-Islam, the holy land of the Muslims. We therefore are offering to support your jihad in Zevriti; due to a lull in Ummayan government actions against us, we can send a battalion of battle-hardened warriors to you. They will be placed under your command, but we will take care of their logistics, and if necessary we help purchase arms and ammunition from abroad, delivered through Ummayan ports, for you.

Insha'allah, we will succeed.

NITAQ, JAF GOVERNORATE, ZEVRETIN
Footmen of Allah Brigade, Shuhada Alshshabab

Hameed racked back the bolt to the DShK, howling as he let loose with it amid hailstorms of fire from both sides of the skirmish. Hunkered inside of a low trench, Hameed continued with intermittent (albeit blind) volleys in the direction of regime troops, rotating the gun about wildly in a vain effort to suppress them. Beside him were his brothers; Footmen of Allah, they had called themselves early on. They were the best the Young Martyrs had...well-armed, disciplined, and fanatical. It was said the only order they could comprehend was advancing, as they had spearheaded the original battles for the three major cities of Jaf. Now, however, this had evidently changed. Regime troops had absolutely fallen back, clearly discouraged, but those that were tasked with creating a new front line did so with ease. For Hameed and the rest of the Footmen, it was like hitting a brick wall.

The crackle of Hameed's radio brought him back to reality, prompting him to turn over and press the speaker to his ear.

"Watch your fire brothers, we have three martyrs coming in from the rear in trucks. Provide these lions the adequate cover fire and we will see our way through this hell."

Hameed turned back, his eyes resting upon small, moving shapes engulfed in thick clouds of dust. Sure enough, they were headed their way. He exhaled loudly and shook his head; he was a man of faith but he simply could and would not shorten his life simply for just a moment of recognition from his peers. Up ahead, muzzle flashes from regime positions seemed almost relentless, with no amount of fire enough to even briefly suppress them. They clearly were more prepared, with one deep trench stretching probably half a mile long, dotted with fortified machine gun positions and spider holes for sharpshooters. He cursed under his breath, resuming his own post at the DShK as the suicide trucks behind him grew ever closer. One thing was for sure- they would absolutely need those trucks if they hoped to break the line anytime soon.

Thunder in the distance froze Hameed stiff midway through his firing, and quietened much of his fellow militants as well. There was a brief moment of complete silence, a calm before the storm, as many of them remained paused in their actions to assess whether or not they indeed heard what they thought they did. Hameed took no chance, turning and howling to the men on either side of him.

"ARTILLERY! DOWN, DOWN, DOWN!"

Sure enough, the howl of 122mm shells accompanied his cries, impacting just yards away from the trench. Hameed hurled himself onto the ground, knocking his DShK over in the process as the shells pounded the earth, closer with each volley. He looked up for a mere instant to see other brothers, panic-stricken, attempt to climb out of the trench, only to be ripped apart by machine gun fire. He gritted his teeth, frantically whispering silent prayers to himself in the midst of all the destruction. He rolled over, the shells churning up men and dirt alike all along the line as he did so. He glanced over at the man closest to him, grabbing his shoulder and shaking him violently in an effort to get his attention. In response, the fellow militant leaned his head over to Hameed's mouth.

"WHERE...THE...-ICIDE TRUCKS?!"

The militant shook his head furiously, gesturing back toward Martyr-held territory with wide eyes. Hameed cursed loudly.

The bastards, in all their bravery and selflessness, had turned around and retreated at the start of the artillery strike. The entirety of the Footmen of Allah Brigade were going to die there in the trench like rats. He laughed hysterically, remaining limp in his fetal position at the bottom of the trench, his eyes facing up toward the sky. All around him, gored corpses lie in piles beside their weapons, the living now a minority to the dead. He steadily grew numb, adrenaline hijacking his senses, perhaps out of pity. Rather comically, he imagined the deafening explosions of impacting shells being overpowered by that of something louder, and much closer. This persisted for several seconds, and at last Hameed grew restless in his living state. He simply wished to be taken already...the wait genuinely felt torturous and mocked the hope of self-preservation.

All of a sudden, the silhouette of an aircraft, a helicopter, flew overhead. His docile state dissipated as he pushed himself up off the ground, only to crane his neck in search of his hallucination. Peering across the battleground, Hameed's eyes grew wide as they settled upon the remnants of the regime positions several hundred yards ahead. The trench-line itself had almost disappeared, its supports crumbled and the emplacements within it buried under blackened sand. Charred bodies, adorned in military fatigues, lied strewn about among the occasional piece of debris set aflame. He spun around, still very much in shock as he caught view of the perpetrators: an entire convoy in the sky, varying in shape and size, but all absolutely that of Mil make. This was seemingly impossible, unless the regime had accidentally fired on their own men.

Nearby, several other men emerged from cover, their hands cupped over their eyes in an effort to follow the convoy as well.

"Who the fuck was that?" Hameed asked hoarsely.

Clambering out of the trench, one of the jihadists let out an approving whistle. "It was the Cesopiumians, brother. I've seen those helicopters before. They're helping us."

"The Cesopi-what's?" Hameed said, raising an eyebrow.

"I don't know. Some crazies from who-knows-where. I heard from some of the boys back in Nitaq that they proposed an alliance along with another group. They're the real deal, though, brother. They've got firepower."

"Well no shit." Hameed breathed. In spite of everything, they had survived. This had been quite the way to re-affirm his faith in Allah, amid overwhelming odds. He wished he could drink.

THE ARAB SOCIAL REPUBLIC OF ZEVRETIN
TO: BALAGAN, ISLAMIC REPUBLIC

Assistance of any kind would be greatly appreciated in the fight to maintain our Republic. While our military is entirely capable, we've lost most of our momentum in our initial offensive, and quite frankly we will require all the assets we can get in an effort to not only maintain our current front lines but also to expand them. We thank you again for your initiative in repelling these undesirables...through such initiative, we can expel them from the region entirely.

Brothers in Ummayah

We are very pleased to hear you are willing to provide us with extra manpower and equipment- needless to say, we've had a lack of proper allies with regards to Dar Al-Islam...in fact, we were shocked that many groups simply overlooked our plight within Jaf. With the exception of Ansar Al-Sharia (who have provided us with minimal support, but support nonetheless), we have had no proper brothers to turn to in this conflict. With that said, we thank you a thousand times over, and welcome your support as the war escalates. We await your arrival.

God be with you.

Heavy Guarded Military Tent in Nitaq, Jaf Governorate, Arab Social Republic of Zevretin

"These loosely organized Islamic militants have a lack of territory in their complete control and a lack of a center base," remarked Commander-In-Chief Ulnon O-Lacky. "I believe that Kalinin K-7 needs to secure Nitaq and its adjacent panhandle in the Arab Social Republic of Zebretin. From there, I propose that we establish Nitaq as a provisional capital for the 'Young Matyrs' and move from there."
The other commanders in the room agreed.
"Ulnon," commented Commander Alexis Sandez, "your strategy for helping these Islamic militants create a stable foundation to fight from is excellent; however, we also need to establish communications with the Allied States of Cesopium, another major country helping the 'Young Matyrs'. And finally, should we conduct a slow, efficient war against the Zevretin government? Or full-blown civil war?"
Ulnon contemplated these possibilities. "Well, Alexis, I truly believe this venture into helping the Young Matyrs is an all or nothing venture. I believe we should ready all military task forces to begin war, supporting the Young Matyrs, against Zevretin. We would then negotiate with the leaders of the 'Young Matyrs' to secure strong trade and investment between our two countries, which the current government of Zevretin has refused to even consider. It would be in our interests. As for establishing communications with Cesopium, we've sent out a message towards their government already to create an allied force."
"Very good, Ulnon. I do believe your plans are quite polished. This meeting has been quite productive."

Outside, the occupied city of Nitaq was busy. Kalinin K-7 troops were patrolling the streets, and the old, broken-down Nitaq Airport was quickly being reestablished as the Joint Base Nitaq Airfield. The Kalinin K-7 military was constructing hangars, taxiways, and runways, demolishing many structures along the way. Out at the Outer Nitaq Front, the remaining Zevretin troops were met with a huge number of well-trained troops. It wasn't a simple Jihadist occupation now. It was civil war - in Zevretin.

Nitaq Front, First Battalion

Rinke and his fellow brothers-in-arms had heard the loud explosions occurring outside as the helicopter he was aboard approached the ground, he figured it was from the Mil Mi-28 escorts armed with the 122mm unguided S-13 rockets crashing into the regime's positions, tearing apart pillboxes and leaving craters within the earth where they landed.

A few moments later he landed, soldiers surged out of the large helicopter like a wave, grouping up with his sergeant, his platoon was to advance east along with the rest of the 1st Battalion to seize Saqqaf Int'l, upon being briefed, he moved out with his squad. Not taking time to realize this as he ran over the trenches of the burnt out regime positions reduced to rubble. Charred black bodies were strewn across their defenses all around, some missing limbs, and the poor helpless ones who were alive but were far too fatally wounded to survive any longer.

Marching forward, the entirety of the first wave of the 8th Battalion, 204 men in total moved on hoping to acquire support from the Young Martyrs as they went along. Men marching forward wielding OSV-96s, Carl Gustav recoilless rifles and MG3s, they hoped with this type of firepower they could overwhelm anything the Regime would toss at them in their advance. The helicopter tranports turned back around as they secured the airspace required for their landing base, they would begin returning with the rest of the awaiting 1st Battalion.

Henning Itzen lead the charge with his men, leading the very tip of the spear of the 1st Battalion as they continued to move onto the regime's positions, supported by the 4 attack helicopters they had been lent, enough to erase any armored menace they would meet later on. In the other fronts, such as the offence around the Aizdihar Front and Manar Front with 147 men of the 2nd and 3rd Battalion arriving in their respective first waves to aid in the assault on regime defenses. Using the attack helicopters to pave the way for their assaults they pounded the other fronts heavily with what they had available.

Saqaf Int'l
Commanders Tent

"Sir, the enemy has been spotted 5 clicks to the North East, just outside Saqaf Int'l"
"Are the men in position?'
"Affirmative sir, ground troops are ready, and we have 4 H-17 Fighters ready for strafing runs"
"Good, On my command 3...2..."
General Ramer had tasked his second in command Colonel Jone with setting up an ambush, the Zevretins had held the line but at what cost? The rebels were pushing closer each day and this was one of many chances to turn back the tide. Colonel Jone had meticulously set up his men in defensive positions alongside the Republican Guard, snipers, RPG's, machine guns, howitzers, you name it. In a few seconds, the rebels would be running screaming and we'd be chasing them back to their caves. The might of the CAF was to be demonstrated in full force today. Failure was not an option.
"...1. LAUNCH FIGHTERS, THE TRAP IS SPRUNG!"

17th Advanced Infantry Division
Hern was an ordinary Corporal, military service was compulsory back home, but he jumped at the chance to serve the State and his Leader, he was as excited for war as anyone else in his battalion was. 3 years in the Army and he was finally going to see some action, defending the honor of the country and all the stuff they taught him back in basic. This was it.

"ALL UNITS ARE GREEN FIRE AT WILL". Captain Rash was screaming over the com network, Hern grabbed his Christoslavian manufactured X-7 Designated Marksman Rifle and began to acquire his targets, he was top of his class in marksmanship and was hoping he could hold up. One, two, three bodies crumpled to the ground, in a dark way he thought of it like crushing a can of soda. The faint mists of red coming out of their heads, excited him, but scared him as well. This was his first combat experience and he had never actually killed anyone, all he heard were the stories from the old vets of the Civil War but he never really knew what it was like until now.

"Squad, move up!", Hern yelled through the comms. Zeta Squad was tasked with securing their position of ambush and taking out infantry specifically, Rachel was on the RPG, Zara and Tesh laying down suppressing fire, everything was going as planned...for now at least.

The roar of CAF H-17's overhead was deafening, and the sight magnificent. Bombs dropped and chainguns alight, Hern watched as the rebels were cut to pieces, scattering every which way. He picked off one scrambling for a Stinger, and another trying hopeless to shoot it down with his rifle. On the second run two Mi-28s went up in flames, unable to evade the pinpoint precision of those guns. Hern felt...proud. He wasn't even focused on staying alive, "This is a God Damn cakewalk, where's the fu-", All the sudden something screamed through the comms that sent chills up his spine.
"FIRE MISSION DANGER CLOSE REPEAT HOWITZERS OPENING FIRE DANGER CLOSE RETREAT RETREAT"

"FUCK, everybody run!" Hern grabbed his rifle and slid down the bluff where his unit was positioned, he was dripping in sweat, "Fuck, why is it so hot?', as he and his unit ran for cover ducking in between rocks and trees and corpses, he looked to his left and time froze, Zara was looking at him like she was pleading for something, then he saw the hole in her chest. everything was moving in slow motion, explosions and gunfire ringing all around him as the artillery indiscriminately shelled anything close to a rebel position. Hern picked up Zara and high tailed it back to the government line, tripping into a trench as some Republican Guardsmen tried to help him up. When he was recomposed he looked at Zaras body and it was...lifeless... "Wake up dammit Zara wake up!". It was fucking pointless, his squad mate, his friend, his comrade, was dead. Hern looked back at the smoldering vehicles and bodies on the field both rebel and Christoslavian. "So this is what war is? I guess the geezers were right after all, war is hell". Hern picked up his rifle and said goodbye to his friend one last time as she was being thrown in with the rest of the dead. As he walked away the comms lit up with "mission successful". He took his off and sat down. And for the first time in his life, he cried.

Ayalet Hashahar
Ummayah
North of Zevriti

Sirdar Abdullah had been appointed commander of the Janub al-Farad al-Zevriti (Southern Force-Zevriti), and he was relishing to get back into the fight, having had to hide in the Ummayan desert for so long. Deep in the Great Desert, south of which lay Zevriti, his force was gathering for its entrance into the holy war fought by their brothers and sisters in the south.

It had taken a while to coordinate, because the Ummayan government, with the aid of technologically advanced foreign countries, were monitoring any radio or cell communications from above with the numerous drones dispatched to carry out surveillance (though as the area was so massive, blind spots were well known), and they had found out through the hard way- the deaths of several senior commanders- the uses of human messengers. The downside was that communication wasn’t instantaneous. But it worked. After months of bitter fighting, government forces had finally withdrawn from Junud al-Kabaab strongholds, opting to enter drawn-out negotiations under a ceasefire which was violated near daily.

Abdullah’s force was, like him, extremely experienced through years of bloody fighting. Many of his troops had taken part in the nationwide offensives launched by the militant group months ago, when it beheaded and massacred its way to prominence, gaining a fearful reputation throughout the world, which was mostly in part to its terror attacks on Murovanka, Sylva, Lendol, Achesia, along with the lone-wolf attacks that they had inspired through the fascinating new medium of the Internet. That however didn’t stop a coalition of international forces from pushing them back into the desert; but their successful stand against modern, technologically advanced forces had gained them much attention and inspiration.

In the small desert village, which was more of an outpost, the task force was gathering, far from the prying eyes of the government. The al-Kabaab leadership had decided that their assistance to the Young Martyrs wouldn’t be so altruistic as it first appeared, and had decided instead to open a second front in northern Zevriti, which by now was likely thinly guarded as the Zevriti Army faced off the Martyrs. Besides, the Great Desert acted as a good barrier to any invasion. But the al-Kabaab, who had spent nearly its entire existence using the desert to their advantage- despite the difficulties and hazards- it was not so. The aim of the mission was to establish a presence in northern Zevriti which they could use as ‘safe haven’ against the Ummayan government, a place they could silently build up their strength. In that manner, the composition of the ‘battalion’, which the al-Kabaab leadership proposed to the Martyrs, morphed into a thousand-man force. In addition to foot soldiers (with varying degrees of motorisation/camelisation?), he had an armour company of several platoons of outdated, but functioning tanks and infantry fighting vehicles, a heavy company of two batteries of mortars, even surface-to-air missiles that they’d looted from government forces, in addition to several sections of suicide bombers. And all the men required to take care of logistics and maintenance; in effect it was a proper, self-sustaining unit capable of independent operations.

Abdullah’s order of battle included as such three infantry companies, an armour company, a support company, a logistics company, with his headquarters having its own designated communications, reconnaissance and military police units. From the ragtag nature of their militias in what was considered their heyday, this proved to be a significant advancement for the band of bloodthirsty rabid marauders as the western media liked to portray them.

And this force soon made its way south, guided by local tribesmen who knew the Desert and its few pathways well. The plan was to strike fast and strike deep, perhaps even going as far as Wahdabad. The al-Kabaab leadership promised him all the support, and further reinforcements, if needed.

Nitaq Front, First Battalion

All had been going well for the first company of the 1st Battalion as they had landed, overwhelming the initial regime positions until they had finally ran into a brick wall as they had enclosed on Saqaf Int'l. Bombs had been dropped upon some of the more zealous rebels who advanced ahead of the company by jets from another country they were not aware who had entered into the conflict. News came in rather quickly, identifying the jets as from a nation known as Christoslavia. Two of their own attack helicopters had been brought down in flames in a surprise attack from anti-aircraft missiles.

With support of a called in rebel artillery strike to force the enemies into cover, the 1st Company initiated their assault upon the regime positions guarding the Saqaf Int'l. It started with the establishment of MG3 machine-gun crews to fire upon the positions, next were the smoke grenades thrown in front of the trench lines. Then there was the charge, Legionnaires armed with their M4s and some selected to wield Remington 870s for trench fighting. The most formidable and trained standard infantry of Cesopium would not fail.

After the attack of the jets, an order was passed down from the Lieutenant Colonel leading the 1st Battalion, to set up a 2-man team wielding 9K32 Strela-2s surface to air missile systems on platoon level in the rear beyond the MG3 crews to protect the other helicopters and infantry in the advance. All the while this is going on the 2 remaining Mil Mi-28's firing off their 30mm cannon and S-13 rockets into pillboxes, and bunkers and exposed infantry. The S-13 rockets penetrating through concrete and metal with the sheer power of the 122mm.
