Foreign Secretary Ulrika Pauling: Ingalund

Pauling waited her moment before stepping onto the podium to be recognised.

"Good evening Ladies and Gentlemen. My name is Ulrika Pauling and I am Foreign Secretary to the Kingdom of Ingalund. Our nation is a Unitary Parliamentary Constitutional Monarchy under our King Karl-Gustav II. Due to illness, his heir: Prince Mikel is assuming many duties as head of state.

We have a fully functioning Sorting (Parliament) of 300, representing 14.2m people.

I have been sent to apply for membership into the Cooperative Union and will answer any questions member states have regarding this application".

"Apologies for the boring question but I really do need to ask this. Do you see your nation abiding by the Treaty of Coventry effectively and will it benefit from it? Also, does your nation uphold the values in the Cooperative Papers?"

"Thank you for the question, and please do not apologise" Pauling replied.

"It is my opinion, as well as the opinion of the Kjng's government I represent that Ingalund's values are closely aligned to those of the CU. We would have no problem abiding by these laws as most of them are actually similar to our laws as they stand".

"On your second point, we currently have no membership of any trade or political alliance and trade with nations individually. Due to our geographical isolation this can actually put us on the back foot of negotiations when you consider transportation costs. Our national industries actually complain at the lack of people to employ with skills (our unemployment is at just under 2%). Although this is excellent for our nation in terms of human development, our companies are risking being less efficient due to training people who - frankly - may be better suited to other roles but have no choice but to take, say assembly jobs when they are a carpenter, for example. Movement to and from other nations will help both our peoples and those of the CU members."

"I have no objection about Ingalund's admission to the Cooperative Union. I believe it would be a great addition to the Union itself. Though i must ask, how would you describe your nation's economic system? Would it fit with the open market of the CU?"

"Neither do we have any reservations. I believe we also ought to look into the situation at San Jimenez once we have embraced Ingalund inti the Cooperative Union."

"No decision has been made yet on Inglaund's membership. We must wait and see if any other delegates have commentary regarding them."

Matthew hummed quietly, drumming his fingers lightly on his chin before he spoke, "If I may, once the honourable delegate from Samudera's question has been satisfied, might I inquire as to whether the Kingdom of Ingalund would be willing to fully cooperate economically and diplomatically with every nation in the Cooperative Union? Internal division is the bane of an organisation such as this, and one must take into consideration the nature of every member-state very seriously before joining the Cooperative Union, for the Kingdom of Ingalund's sake as much as ours."
