Journey of Ventoris (FT/Open)

Postby Republic of Systems » Mon Sep 26, 2016 7:35 am

Manticore Class Light Cuiser
URS Ventoris
Republic Captain Kiln Vin
Outer Frontier

Kiln was at the bridge of his ship, the Ventoris had been his favorite command, and he had been at the helm of the vessel for three years now. The Ventoris was a Manticore class, one of the most prestigious commands in the fleet, they are powerful vessels meant to operate seperate of a fleet, bristling with weapons but also highly versatile. At 1.1 km in length she was a large vessel, though by no means the largest of republic vessels.

He had been instructed to expect unusual energy readings in the area, but so far they had found nothing. He frowned and thought of reporting the readings had been false when one of his bridge officers said "captain, we have a anomaly just two kilometers ahead"
He said "on screen, full stop"

The screen showed what hasn't been there just a few moments ago, what appeared to almost be an opening in space. The ship attempted to stop, but started to get pulled in.

"Sir, we are in full reverse, were being dragged in"
"All hands brace, shields to full"

The large cruisers engines worked with all their might to pull the ship back, but they weren't enough, as the ship slipped into the portal. Still intact, the ship finally stopped as the portal closed behind it, leaving a confused and worried Crew

"Report!"
"All systems operating fine, no damage reported"
"What's our position"
"Checking...sir, we are very deep within uncharted space"
"How deep?"
"unkown sir, navigation sensors can't determine where we are"
Kiln nodded and said "hold position, I want to make sure no more anomalies pop up, I'd hate to be sent out any farther from home than we already have"
"Affirmative sir"

He frowned and then said "any nearby worlds?"
"None we've detected yet sir"
"Keep looking, maybe we can find somewhere to stop and ask directions"
"I'll keep my eyes peeled sir"
"In the meantime send out a distress signal, let's see if anyone in the area picks up, hopefully they are friendly"
"Affirmative sir, starting transmission on all frequencies"

Self-Defense Forces' Space Squadron MDCXLII
Liverian System, Kagno Sector, Galaxy of Rehdips, Imperial Frontier

26th day of the 9th month, 2043 "AD" (local calendar)

"... granted you still are the mercy of Caelum; heed these words and accept your defeat, lest you who have defied heaven will be annihilated."

That was the propaganda that had been broadcast for days over the orbit of Liverie III - besieged capital of a small, system-scale empire that had been half-consumed by the Forces of Evil. The surrender, for inhabitants of Liverie III, was crucial in a life-or-death situation: either their rulers accepted it sooner and fight together with Imperial forces against the incursion of Evil, or they would be forced in between two hostile enemies - one of which, in trying to save the inhabitants, would have to resort to "extreme measures".

The chess-board was being laid before Galactic Governor Aize Cannonhop, and it was causing him a headache - even if he was all-machine.

"Governor; unknown spacecraft detected within the System - within space controlled by us. Allegiance unverified, origin unverified; distress signal sent.", the voice of an AI reported to the Governor.

"What?"

"Exactly that, sir. It is on the other side of the System; in the part we have conquered."

Cannonhop had enough problems, as is. That a spacecraft sending a distress signal would be the least of his problem - while he was in the middle of commanding a planetary siege.

He chose, however, to digress. Better get to it first before the Evil scum could even think about reaching them. Then he might have even more than his full hands could deal with.

"Have one of our orbital outposts contact them. Tell them to land and stay somewhere safe until further notice. I won't be able to get to this until I'm done with this issue over here...", Cannonhop rubbed his metal forehead.

"Yes, sir."

Indeed, seconds later, one of the asteroids near Liverie VIII on which a small outpost was constructed approached the unidentified spacecraft and inquired in Latin:

"Pardon our curiosity, dear guests; but we have heeded your distress call. It would seem like you are lost in the middle of the heat zone; would you like some assistance?"

Unkown sector
Manticore Class Cruiser
URS Ventoris
Captain Kiln Vin

"Captain we have an object approaching, Unkown, were recieving a communication sir"
"Put it through"
"Affirmative captain"

He heard it and said "what are they saying"
"Translators activating now"
He heard it play again and nodded and said "open a frequency"
"Affirmative captain, frequency open"

He nodded and started speaking "hello Unkown vessel, I am captain Kiln of the Republic system starship Ventouris. We are currently lost very far from home, we need to find out where we are, so that we can attempt to get home. We were brought here when we got sucked into a anomaly that we ran into while on patrol"

He nodded and the frequency was switched to listen only, he could only hope they didn't attempt to attack, as he would not be recieving reinforcements anytime soon

After a short moment of complete silence - the approximate time it would take for a new language to be processed by the outpost's database and sent back to central authorities, the outpost finally responded - in the guests' language.

"It is most unfortunate that you have found yourselves in very close proximity to a heated war-zone; however, we will try to do our best to shelter you until you have found a way to make it back home. Please redirect your spacecraft to the nearest space-port available for crafts of your size - accommodation will be available there."

With that said, the outpost slowly retreated, and the coordinates were of the space-port were sent to the guests' spacecraft - a medium-sized port recently constructed on the surface of Liverie VIII's northern pole.
