WAR DECLARED AGAINST THE FEDERALISTS!
Following the uncovering of the Federalist infiltration into our armed forces and their gathering of highly sensitive documents, it has been found out that the intention of the Federalists was indeed to launch a surprise attack against Ostreich. An army official tells us that troop movements on the border with the Federalists have over the last month indicated a much more aggressive stance, and in the recent week, it is believed that they are attempting to rush their plan to invade. As a response, Keitel has assembled our forces and has launched a preemptive invasion with the goals of "(...) ensuring [that] the Federalists become incapable of threatening the Ostreich."
The Herulic foreign army within the Ostreich will also participate in this war, and assist the Ostreichan soldier in winning this war.
A minor firefight has broken out at the Federalist embassy in Neinhagen, after the Military Police attempted to occupy the building.
Keitel has sent a public proclamation to the Syncretic Confederation, announcing that any and all martial cooperation with the Federalists or Federalist supporters, be it by sending them soldiers or allowing their soldiers access through their country, will be viewed as an act of treason. He stressed that such an act will force him to treat them like the traitors on his border.
"How long do we have left?" Warlimont drew back his sleeve to reveal his watch. The room was dark, and so after squinting he moved his arm over the table and placed it below the light coming from the hanging lamp. "4 minutes until it's official and we start moving. Your forces will land in 30 minutes, give or take." Verhart smiled and jittered with excitement, rubbing his hands together, and turning his radiant head towards the other foreign-army-commanders. They all wore the same thinking faces up until they saw Verhart's wide smile, infecting them with the same emotion. "What do you say Torgils? If there's one thing I've learned from my time here in Ostrich, it is that the Ostreichans make war unlike no one else!" Torgils grinned. "You don't have to be so vain sir, they know it well themselves, and so do we. Under their uniforms, they are Herulic after all." "I wonder why I was praising their people then!" he responded, filling the room with laughter, emitting even from the Ostreichan staffs. "Well then, General Warlimont. If the time is nearing 1 and a half minutes, it means it's time to send the code and play the piece." Warlimont's still smiling expression looked down at commander Verhart, who had sunken deep into the leathered sofa chair. "You're right, yes, I better sort my priorities and put on the music." He giggled. Verhart nodded, and reached around the side of his sofa, to retrieve a record from his briefcase, that was otherwise stuffed with maps and printed documents and messages "Jodl, would you be so kind and write me a message for the troops?" "To all the troops?" Jodl asked. "Yes, After me: All units-" Warlimont paused and raised his hand towards Verhart, who had in the meantime found the right track on the vinyl. His arm was raised like an artilleryman, ready to give out his signal to fire. The room waited silently, as he observed the arm on his watch pass 20 seconds. "- Thus Spoke Zarathustra."

KRYPTER//KRYPTER//KRYPTER
THE FOLLOWING IS AN EMERGENCY MESSAGE FROM THE DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY FOR THE STATE(S) OF:
ITHAKA
KRYPTER//KRYPTER//KRYPTER
[GLYPH 0712-C | IN CASE OF CHEMICAL WEAPONS ATTACK//NERVE AGENT]
This document supersedes any previous GLYPH warnings and contains new information regarding emergency management execution.
Should the possibility that a chemical weapons attack on a civilian area occur, statutory law will be superseded by martial law as per 6 KCRC § 711 (1992).
EMERGENCY PROCEDURES
LOCAL EMERGENCY SIGNAL. If a local emergency is declared you will hear a long continuous siren. The sirens will broadcast from local broadcasts, military and civilian security centers and other venues. At that time you should proceed as quickly as possible to your designated shelter and await further instructions.
DIRECT EMERGENCY SIGNAL. In cases of a more direct emergency when time is more critical you will hear three short bursts which will repeat at 30 second intervals. At this time you should proceed to the closest public shelter. If you are at home you may be able to improvise some last minute shelter in a basement with sealed doors, windows, and deactivating and sealing air conditioning (see document GLYPH 0712-A online for suggestions). If you are outside and unable to get to a shelter you should find the nearest subway station, if available. Preparations have been made to fortify the subway systems against chemical attacks alongside the construction of local shelters.
Do not use the local communication system to make calls once either of these emergencies have been declared. In general these systems will switch to emergency service use only. Tune directly to any local news channel and listen for instructions. Purchase a PAPER pad and pen to write directions down, or PRINT these directions (found online at emergency.dod.gov) since local power may become unavailable and jamming devices or the destruction of local infrastructure may render wireless internet connections impossible.
You may have to stay at your location for an indeterminate amount of time, ranging from a week to nearly a month. Public shelters are stocked with supplies and drinking water and private citizens should keep at least one weeks worth of supplies on hand at all times. Do not leave your shelter under any circumstances if you have reached it. Nerve agents, such as VX, can be lethal from skin contact alone.
Do not, under any circumstances, leave your shelter until you have received the ALL-CLEAR signal.
IN CASE OF INJURY. An attack by chemical weaponry will lead to many injuries and deaths. Hospitals and doctors may not be available to tend to the poisoned, and you may have to treat injured citizens at the shelter. Do not go outside the shelter to seek aid. Lingering toxic clouds will endanger you and those in your shelter. These may last for the first week of a VX attack, if not longer. However, there have been large stocks of antidote (atropine sulfate/pralidoxime chloride) autoinjectors stocked in all public shelters and subway stations. In the event that you or someone in your shelter is suffering from nerve agent poisoning, immediately apply the injector using the attached instructions.
IN CASE OF DEATH. All public shelters have a supply of sealable body bags. If there are casualties in your shelter you should put the body into one of these bags and seal it. If possible attach identification to the body before placing it in the bag. If you are in the shelter for longer than 36 hours place any body bags directly outside the shelter via the shelter's waste disposal airlock as quickly as possible.
Evacuation instructions will be broadcast as quickly as possible following the ALL-CLEAR. You should know within 24 hours when your shelter or location will be evacuated to safety. Before any evacuation from the shelter check the local surroundings for enemy activity. If you see a soldier not wearing Kerthenian or CDN insignia, stay in the shelter. There is no agreement with the following nations: KEITELS OSTRIECH, HERULAND, KRACSIS for evacuating non-combatants.
[MESSAGE WILL REPEAT]
Mobilization Orders
We are now at war with the Ostreich and there is possibility of war with any of their allies. Top-level mobilization orders have been issued. Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine personnel should prepare for immediate deployment, and aircraft sortie orders have been issued, with air superiority, Wild Weasel, and airstrike operations beginning immediately. Coast Guard personnel have been transferred to the Department of Defense and should be on high alert, with CTRU units being deployed in Ithaka.
CTRU operators should be aware that Timberan CBRN operators have lent aid in the form of personnel and supplies in Ithaka.

BARKADIAN PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT
War With Keitel's Ostreich
Icaria, and the Syncretic Confederation, set up for the sole purpose of creating a new era of peace in the region, is under direct threat. The threat is not a foreign force, or long range weapons. Heruland, along with Keitel, who was even a part of the Confederation, has started an invasion, with a large force of unknown size. Although Icaria is halfway across the world from us, this does not give us an excuse to heavily aid the country. Prenzlau falls under direct threat as well. The government has almost immediately decided, after hearing of the declaration, of flooding the peninsula with Barkadian military personnel. There will be a rapid shipment of forces to bolster friendly numbers. Air and naval assets will be mobilized to aid in transportation to the front line. We hope in the next few weeks, or by whenever realistically possible, there could be up to a quarter of a million troops in Icaria, defending against the fascists. FiR-20 aircraft will be disassembled and shipped to Prenzlau, to help provide air superiority and close air support to the forces in action. Prenzlau will receive large amounts of modern hardware and vehicles, such as vastly increased shipments of T-90Bs, BTR-80s, and BMP-2s and 3s. Other weapons shipments include 9M133 Kornet ATGMs, and several modern artillery pieces. Forces already stationed with Icaria will be moved northwards immediately to counter the invasion force and buy time for reinforcements. This is all for now. Good luck to those already there.

RENE LEZKANO'S SPEECH
by Edusa » Mon May 27, 2019 2:20 pm
Open Letter to KerbinWe can only reaffirm our will to condemn the escalation and mutual threatening of the several parties implied in the region of Icaria. A war here is in no way necessary and in fact, war should never be the answer to any issue. God blessed us with the gift of a mouth to speak and hands to write, not to bite and strange each other at the Devil's will. I am now speaking to you the leaders of the nations threatening peace, God and your people chose you as you were the most fit to lead them to a great and bright future, not to death. Spare them tears and blood, offer them hope for their children and the childs or their children! The Holy Nation of Serria is ready to act as a mediator between you to end this war before War claims its first soul but be aware, we are ready to defend our people and blessed land in the region should one be foolish enough to attack us.Francesco of the House of Colombo, Prince of the Blessed Principality of Edusa

0 - 48 hours (May 25th - 26th): The Herulic carrier task force was known to be located somewhere in the seas near Ostreich, according to intelligence data provided by Avellian submarine stalking, but the exact location was unknown, and it was unknown whether the task force would be used in the conflict. However, what was known was that fleet had acquired basin rights in Chikara and the Osak, yet after consulting these nations, they said the fleet had not participated with them since the 23rd of April. The last they heard from the task force was that they were disengaging to r&r. Avellian submarines were tasked with patrolling the Icarian Gulf to search for the carrier group. Half an hour after the war was declared, the Federalists reported a marine and airborne landing north of Edessa, where the Louise I task force was used as an escort.
The numerically superior Ostreichan 3rd army entered Icaria, and quickly pierced the defensive lines the MT force had prepared. The Coalition force within Icaria was mostly comprised of Klathuian troops, making up 2/3rd of all soldiers. These men were experienced, as they had been stationed and fighting in Icaria throughout the civil war, but because of experience in Operation Easter and training by the Herulic foreign army, the Ostreichan forces were better equipped for more conventional warfare. Although the Coalition had a stronger combined airforce, the Ostreichan forces exploited the initiative of being the first ones to strike.
The Herulic foreign army, under command and jurisdiction of the Ostreichan armed forces, conducted a landing near Edessa and were successful. 1 division was carried by helicopter from amphibious assault ships, and 2 airborne divisions were dropped. almost all available aircraft from the Ostreichan side were sent to assist in these forces, but instead of opposing the landing, the Coalition airforce chose to disrupt the main push by the 3rd army, as they feared the capable Herulic air defence frigates. And for the same reason, sinking the Herulic carrier group was made the highest priority for the Coalition forces. The Herulic landing was mostly unopposed, and quickly seized two major port cities: Edessa and Laganas. Over the following hours, the remaining divisions of the 204th Air-assault/Airmobile corps and the 99th Airborne/Airmobile corps entered Icaria through these ports.
In the north, New Adinsburg was quickly captured as the Ostreichan force was significantly greater than the defenders, but because of Kerthenian Close-Air-Support, these troops were suppressed, ensuring that they could not be redeployed to anywhere else.
Coalition forces from the rest of Federalist and Democratic Icaria, as well as Klathu, were being strategically redeployed to the front line and would arrive at Victoria in 4 days.
48 - 96 hours (May 27th - 28th): After learning of the Herulic breach of agreement regarding the carrier groups Louise I, Blorbs demanded that Heruland immediately return the group to Sekap and withdraw from Icaria, or else they would also intervene in the war. Herulic Admiral Estridsen, who was in charge of naval operations in the theater, recalled the Herulic carrier group to Dafni while a Herulic and Blorbik delegations would hold a conference on this situation.
While Avellian submarines now had the opportunity to sink the fleet, they were unaware of the fleets change in course, as they were radio silent under the ocean. Their priority was to locate and sink the task force, and they avoided revealing their presence by not sinking supply ships in the region.
The Herulic 204th corps rapidly advanced towards Williamstown, behind enemy forces, to cut off supply and envelop the Coalition divisions that were currently fighting. The corps of 3 divisions were unopposed in their advance, and captured several major airports near Heraklion and Trevelyan.
The Ostreichan 3rd army flanked and enveloped the Coalition forces of 120.000 men between Stirling, New Baysmouth, and Heraklion. 99th Airborne, 8th Infantry, and 3rd Armored corps were tasked with liquidating these forces. A Kolonian division was pushed eastwards to Agia, where they were forced into a pocket. Kerthenian transport ships began evacuating these forces.
The Coalition airforce had continued to suppress the northern peninsula above Ostreich, but in the end, they fell to the Ostreichan forces. In general, wherever the front was somewhat stagnant, the Coalition airforce ensured that troops were suppressed, but it was much more difficult to find and keep track of the forces who were not in contact with Coalition troops, and who was rushing south to Williamstown.
The first Coalition reinforcements were arriving in Imeros, where they were regrouping and preparing defenses.
96 - 144 hours (May 29th - 30th): The enveloped Coalition force of almost 120.000 men surrendered without many casualties, freeing up the 99th Airborne, 8th Infantry, and 3rd Armored corps. Herulic supply by sea ended, as a ground connection had been established with the foreign army.
the 204th Air-Assault, 9th Infantry, and 2nd Panzer corps had reached the river by Victoria and Imeros, and had encircled a Klathuian division in Williamstown, who the Kerthenians were evacuating. A Sufficient number of Coalition forces had arrived at the river where the front was, which along with a worsening supply situation, forced the Ostreichan troops to end their advance for now. The front along the river was narrow, and numerical superiority didn't present the Ostreichans with an advantage anymore.
The Ostreichan 3rd army was assigned to hold the front line and capture Williamstown, while the Herulic foreign army would over the coming week be redeployed and readied for a new landing north of Sochos. At this point, Admiral Estridsen was in dialogue with the high command of Ostreich and the Herulic foreign command about what should be done going forward. It was decided that Ostreich would offer talks about peace with the Coalition. Meanwhile these talks were underway, the plan was to have the Herulic foreign army land north of Sochos, and force the Coalition to rush for favorable terms with Ostreich.
Unable to locate Louise I, Avellian submarines emerged and received information that they had been recalled to Dafni. Talks regarding the fleet were still ongoing, with the Herulic delegation arguing that the agreement concerned terrorists in general, and that the Icarian actions prior to the war had been terroristic. Tensions between the two nations were very high, with Heruland and Blorbs both threatening each other. Blorbs reiterated their intentions to end the agreement and enter the Coalition to sink the carrier if it did not return immediately, while Heruland threatened war with Blorbs if that was to happen.
Operation Dolchkopf was terminated, as it was no longer appropriate to the situation.
May 31st - June 6th: Coalition probing attacks and suppression of the stationary front line continues, as well as suppression of Ostriecher air defences, supplies, industry, and more. Several stealth fighters have been lost by the Coalition, despite their air superiority, and the wrecks are being retrieved Ostreich. Afther the war, they'd be investigated by Heruland. The Ostreichan high command had hypothesized an invasion of the Kerthenian island Ithaka, just east off of Ostreich, but such a suggestion was shot down by Admiral Estridsen. Estridsen was in general not enthusiastic about conducting more naval landings, as he feared the very advanced and capable Coalition submarine force and knew they no longer had the element of suprise. Despite this, he was ordered to send Louise I to Laganas, so that they could support a new landing south of Sochos.
Avellian submarines spotted the task force moving out of Dafni, going in a southern direction. One submarine continued to stalk the group, while another escaped and reported the information to the Coalition. The Coalition leaders conversed about what to do with this information, whether to inform Blorbs and drag them into the war, or keep the Herulic under the impression that they were unspotted so that they could later strike them in a decisive victory. It was decided that they keep it secret so that they could find out where the carrier group was going and with what purpose, and then later reveal to Blorbs that the Herules were definitely not cooperating, and call them into the Coalition. The Qusmosi intelligence service set up a simulated wargame to figure out where Louise I, was going, and what its mission was. Early on in the wargames, it was hypothesized that it was almost certainly another landing, but they were unsure where or how, as any landing would come into conflict with Serrian shipping routes going into The Icaria Hospitaller Government. On the 5th, the fleet arrived in Laganas, still being stalked by the Avellian submarine. As they entered the port, the submarine retreated and reported back.
The following day, Ostreich announced a blockade that had an exclusion zone going from north of Laganas to north of Alykes. This blockade cut and redirected shipping lines going into the Hospitaller Government, and primed the Foreign Army for an undisturbed naval landing. They announced that all shipping that would enter this zone could go to Edessa, where they could either wait for the blockade to end, or pay the Ostreichan government to unload the ships and transport the goods to the Serrian territories. The area was not covered by Ostreichan ships, and the blockade itself was not well enforced, but shipping that was going into Serria didn't risk getting sunk and anchored outside of Edessa. No ship unloaded their cargo, as the sailors did not trust the Ostreichan government to deliver their goods. This also began to starve troops in the Serrian territories, who had arrived prior to the breakout of the war, in order to defend their territories. The Federal Republic of Icaria offered the shipping to sail to Komi, where they could deliver the goods to Serria. Although Serria desired to remain neutral, they considered this option because of the Ostreichan breach of international law.
Ostreich proposed a peace conference without a ceasefire, and the Coalition accepted attendance.
(Serrian shipping anchored outside of Edessa.)
June 7th - 11th: On the 8th at 11:45 PM, Operation Forspillet was launched, and 4 Herulic divisions, 3 airmobile marines and 1 airborne, were sent away from Laganas. Naturally, Coalition warships had disregarded the blockade exclusion zone, and Avellian submarines were ready when they entered open ocean. As soon as the landing fleet was spotted, Blorbs was contacted. The talks between Heruland and Blorbs - which had become frustrated from Herulic stalling - entered a rowdy and heated moment. It ended with some of the Herulic delegation engaging in a fistfight with the Blorbik diplomats, who were arrested, and the rest of the delegation expelled. Blorbs immediately declared war on the Ostreich and sent its own carrier fleet from Paros to where Louise I was.
Louise I, her fleet, and the Ostreichan fleet were briefly attacked by several Avellian submarines, sinking 2 Herulic Air Defence Frigates, half a dozen transports, and hitting Louise I with 2 torpedos, making her list and crippling her propulsion. The Avellian submarines escaped quickly after their strike to avoid being found and sunk. The fleet continued, with only a few escorts remained around the sunken ships to defend them and retrieve sailors and soldiers. approximately 8.000 men died in this attack.
The landing fleet continued, despite the marines having lost a large portion of their forces, and landed north of Sochos. The airborne divisions, who were escorted by the remains of the Ostreichan airforce, lost 4/5th of their men while en route to drop their troops. 10.000 soldiers died on their way before the Herulic foreign army stopped sending aircrafts, despite Ostreichan orders. The marines and airborne troops that made it to their destination, north of Sochos, were over the next days defeated. The men, who were all veterans within the Herulic army, mostly refused to surrender, and only gave in 4 days later on the 11th. In total, 58.000 Herulic soldiers died, making it the single most catastrophic and bloody defeat of the Herulic army since the civil war, and the greatest loss against a foreign army since The Great War. Heruland announced that they would withdraw their forces from Ostreich immediately to save their remaining fleet, but the Blorbik carrier group - who had a legitimate reason to disregard this because of the broken agreement - was still underway.
The peace talks between Ostreich and the Coalition were in the meantime ongoing, and it too had become rowdy after the operation and its defeat, and although the talks would continue, they would still not reach an agreement until later.
(Herulic Air Defence Frigate hit by a torpedo.)
June 12th - 19th: On the morning of the 13th, a Blorbik strike-group was launched from their carrier, and sunk the Herulic warships that remained around Louise I. The carrier was spared at first, as the Blorbik admiral questioned whether they should try and capture it, but 20 minutes after the first strike, a second strike of just 2 aircrafts sunk the Louise I.
Ostreich and its occupied territory had at this point been severely bombed, and the Coalition had achieved total air supremacy. Kerthenia had decided that the Coalition should not attempt a naval landing, as any naval landing could result in chemical weapons being used on Ithaka, and after satellite imagery revealed mobile IRBM's (see page 22), they feared that any city in the western part of the country was in danger. Ostreich had in the past announced that any invasion into Ostreich would result in such an attack, and despite Kerthenia's overwhelming arsenal of WMD's, they would not risk the lives of hundreds of thousand their own people to chemical attacks. Despite Ostreich's perilous situation, they proclaimed that they continue to fight the war until every adult male had taken a bullet for their country. The front line was still in the same place as it had been when Operation Dolchkopf had ended, meaning it was still as narrow and difficult to penetrate. A significant defense had also been erected on both sides, with mines and fortified positions lining either side of the river. A cease-fire was made on the 17th, and a peace was signed on the 20th. A new border was drawn on where the front line had been, on the condition that Ostreich would hand over all of their chemical weapons and destroy all of their chemical weapon production facilities. The Coalition establishes the Kerbin Assembly after the war, to ensure that international crisis can be dealt with peacefully. Ostreich would rename itself to Freiraum and establish a one-party dictatorship inspired by Heruland. Ostreich would not be able to fight a war for the next several years, because of the destruction dealt to their industry and infrastructure.
Despite the war being a success for Heruland and Ostreich, the Coalition forces had sent Heruland running with its tail in between its legs. They had suffered unsustainable casualties of their most proffessional forces, lost crucial and expensive war material, and the loss of their task force crippled Herulic power projection. It would take them many months before their military recovered. For Heruland, the strengthening of the Ostreichan position ended up being a pyrrhic victory.
