Emergency Meeting of the High Ministers in Zittau, Democratic Republic of Icaria

War Minister Marcel Velthuis stood at the end of the long table. His feet lay directly in line with shoulders, and his hands firmly gripping the sides of the long table. Opposite him, Executive Minister Luuk Hulsman sat. Hulsman glanced up at Velthuis to indicate he should begin. "Comrade Executive Minister, it is clear to me that the northerners are soon returning to open hostilities. With such a resumption, we must face the idea that we will also be forced to engage in this conflict. I propose that with a strategic alliance with Keitel, we can bring our People's Revolution north and oust the imperialists from Icaria forever." Hulsman looked up at him with incredulity across his face. "You would have us ally with fascists, Comrade Minister? You would have us spurn our comrades in Anderia, Barkadia, and Blorbs? You would have our people's bastion bear the inevitable response from the CDN?" Velthuis pursed his lips. The Minister of People's Wellbeing, Renske Strobos, pulled out a pack of cigarettes and a lighter, and offered it around. After handing it off, she spoke. "In my view, the most effective way to defend our revolution and spread our fundamental philosophy is through the pet project of those Anderian and Qusmosi diplomats. We can show them the way through our camaraderie and unity while securing our economic and social independence from capitalism." Mumbles of passive approval filtered through the Ministers. The representatives of Independent Communes, however, pressed their opposition to being dragged into more violence. While there was some support amongst a few for the Keitel Alliance Proposal, and more for the Syncretic Confederation Plan, the overwhelming consensus among them was to avoid war and refrain from putting the revolution in harm's way in any capacity. Some of the communes, particularly those that had found their liberation through Blorbik rather than Andic or Barkadian forces, hesitated to even call it the same revolution. Following the discussion, Hulsman spoke: "I will concede to placing the Icarian Army of Popular Resistance on high alert, and you may move troops at your discretion. Final orders to attack, however, come from me alone. I will be kept in the loop of military affairs at all times. Is that clear, Comrade Minister?" Velthuis sneered slightly before nodding. "I also need to speak with our comrade, the Anderian ambassador. We need a backchannel into the north and a direct line to the Polemarch at a time like this. Now, for the next matter of discussion..."

WAR DECLARED AGAINST THE FEDERALISTS!

Following the uncovering of the Federalist infiltration into our armed forces and their gathering of highly sensitive documents, it has been found out that the intention of the Federalists was indeed to launch a surprise attack against Ostreich. An army official tells us that troop movements on the border with the Federalists have over the last month indicated a much more aggressive stance, and in the recent week, it is believed that they are attempting to rush their plan to invade. As a response, Keitel has assembled our forces and has launched a preemptive invasion with the goals of "(...) ensuring [that] the Federalists become incapable of threatening the Ostreich."
The Herulic foreign army within the Ostreich will also participate in this war, and assist the Ostreichan soldier in winning this war.
A minor firefight has broken out at the Federalist embassy in Neinhagen, after the Military Police attempted to occupy the building.
Keitel has sent a public proclamation to the Syncretic Confederation, announcing that any and all martial cooperation with the Federalists or Federalist supporters, be it by sending them soldiers or allowing their soldiers access through their country, will be viewed as an act of treason. He stressed that such an act will force him to treat them like the traitors on his border.

"How long do we have left?" Warlimont drew back his sleeve to reveal his watch. The room was dark, and so after squinting he moved his arm over the table and placed it below the light coming from the hanging lamp. "4 minutes until it's official and we start moving. Your forces will land in 30 minutes, give or take." Verhart smiled and jittered with excitement, rubbing his hands together, and turning his radiant head towards the other foreign-army-commanders. They all wore the same thinking faces up until they saw Verhart's wide smile, infecting them with the same emotion. "What do you say Torgils? If there's one thing I've learned from my time here in Ostrich, it is that the Ostreichans make war unlike no one else!" Torgils grinned. "You don't have to be so vain sir, they know it well themselves, and so do we. Under their uniforms, they are Herulic after all." "I wonder why I was praising their people then!" he responded, filling the room with laughter, emitting even from the Ostreichan staffs. "Well then, General Warlimont. If the time is nearing 1 and a half minutes, it means it's time to send the code and play the piece." Warlimont's still smiling expression looked down at commander Verhart, who had sunken deep into the leathered sofa chair. "You're right, yes, I better sort my priorities and put on the music." He giggled. Verhart nodded, and reached around the side of his sofa, to retrieve a record from his briefcase, that was otherwise stuffed with maps and printed documents and messages "Jodl, would you be so kind and write me a message for the troops?" "To all the troops?" Jodl asked. "Yes, After me: All units-" Warlimont paused and raised his hand towards Verhart, who had in the meantime found the right track on the vinyl. His arm was raised like an artilleryman, ready to give out his signal to fire. The room waited silently, as he observed the arm on his watch pass 20 seconds. "- Thus Spoke Zarathustra."

For once, the flashes of the journalists were silent. Everyone knew the following hours would be of the greatest gravity. Elen, paler than usual, climbed on the stage, in front of the cameras and microphones, took a deep breath and started talking :

"I am maybe speaking in front of Edusans and Serrians today but this is a message to the whole Kerbin. You are maybe expecting a long speech, it won't be one. Today, words do not matter anymore, today only acts will count and so, I will be brief. This is with great sadness we learn of the escalation of the conflicts and instability in the region of Icaria turning into a full on war. Such an event will cost thousands of lives of people who where made by God to live happy and in peace. Material damages will occur not only to the much needed and already weak first necessity infrastructure of the region and as a result, the quality of life of the citizens of both warring parties will drop dramatically but historic buildings, monuments, sacred places, in short, the magnificently rich historical heritage of the region is at risk too ! Is it what you want ? No and in fact, none of us want any of this. Enough wars raged upon our world, enough pointless destruction was performed in the name of ideals that should have lead to peace and fraternity instead. The Great War was a lesson and sadly it seems to be forgotten way too often and quickly. We urge both side to stop as soon as possible, before the first bullet is fired, before the first life is lost. We urge both side to speak with their mouth, with pen and paper instead of rifles, shells and bombs. We want peace, the world wants peace but more importantly, your people want peace ! Do not let everything fall into a maelstrom of blood and ruins once again !"

She walked off of the stage under the cheering of the crowd. In any other circumstance, her success would have made her smile but she was aware that by the game of alliances, the small regional conflict in Icaria could very well turn into a second Great War. For once, she wished she wasn't a queen anymore, she wished she could just be like anyone else, do anything with little to no consequences but fate had chosen otherwise.

As of May 25th at 7:19 AM, the following CDN nations have guaranteed the independence of the Federal Republic of Icaria and the Democratic Republic of Icaria: Eusonia, Avellum, Qusmos, and Kerthenia. This comes in the wake of rising tensions between the members of the Syncretic Confederation and the tensions surrounding the FRI embassy in Neinhagen. We hope this guarantee de-escalates the conflict and makes clear that any hostile interference in the Ostreich from any power is intolerable.

National Announcement

As of May 25th at 6:46 PM, in response to Ostreich’s declaration of war on the Federal Republic of Icaria, the Democratic Republic of Qusmos has declared war on Ostreich. Any nations which aid the Ostreich will be considered at war with the Democratic Republic of Qusmos as well. Any forces suspected of aiding Ostreich will be treated accordingly. The conference room was packed with people frantically organizing everything necessary to appropriately respond to Keitel's declaration. Hulsman alone remained unperturbed. Things were under control after all, he hadn't had the time to make any formal commitments. "Sir, we've got something you need to see." A man and a woman rolled in an old CRT into view. On it, a soldier wearing the red armband of the IAPR read off a prepared statement.

"It is the job of the Icarian Army of Popular Resistance to defend the revolution. It is the stated beliefs of the Army's revolutionary leadership that the civilian government have sought to betray the people, and hand our worker's state over to the hands of capitalists and imperialists. Being the agent of the people's resistance to these imperialist agents, we have begun the operation for revolutionary salvation..."

In time, the sounds of shouting and guns could be heard from outside. After a glance out the window, Hulsman stood and straightened his tie. "Excuse me comrades, there is something I should see to."

He descended the three flights of stairs, and found himself in the lobby. He walked to the doors, and as he stepped through them soldiers entered the courtyard. The soldiers stopped, and raised their weapons at the Executive Minister. He frowned disappointedly, before spreading out his arms and exposing his chest. "Shoot me, comrades! I am unarmed!" The youngest of them took a shaky breath, closed his eyes, and lowered his gun. The other soldiers hesitated, and soon followed suit.

Should the possibility that a chemical weapons attack on a civilian area occur, statutory law will be superseded by martial law as per 6 KCRC § 711 (1992).

EMERGENCY PROCEDURES

LOCAL EMERGENCY SIGNAL. If a local emergency is declared you will hear a long continuous siren. The sirens will broadcast from local broadcasts, military and civilian security centers and other venues. At that time you should proceed as quickly as possible to your designated shelter and await further instructions.

DIRECT EMERGENCY SIGNAL. In cases of a more direct emergency when time is more critical you will hear three short bursts which will repeat at 30 second intervals. At this time you should proceed to the closest public shelter. If you are at home you may be able to improvise some last minute shelter in a basement with sealed doors, windows, and deactivating and sealing air conditioning (see document GLYPH 0712-A online for suggestions). If you are outside and unable to get to a shelter you should find the nearest subway station, if available. Preparations have been made to fortify the subway systems against chemical attacks alongside the construction of local shelters.

Do not use the local communication system to make calls once either of these emergencies have been declared. In general these systems will switch to emergency service use only. Tune directly to any local news channel and listen for instructions. Purchase a PAPER pad and pen to write directions down, or PRINT these directions (found online at emergency.dod.gov) since local power may become unavailable and jamming devices or the destruction of local infrastructure may render wireless internet connections impossible.

You may have to stay at your location for an indeterminate amount of time, ranging from a week to nearly a month. Public shelters are stocked with supplies and drinking water and private citizens should keep at least one weeks worth of supplies on hand at all times. Do not leave your shelter under any circumstances if you have reached it. Nerve agents, such as VX, can be lethal from skin contact alone.

Do not, under any circumstances, leave your shelter until you have received the ALL-CLEAR signal.

IN CASE OF INJURY. An attack by chemical weaponry will lead to many injuries and deaths. Hospitals and doctors may not be available to tend to the poisoned, and you may have to treat injured citizens at the shelter. Do not go outside the shelter to seek aid. Lingering toxic clouds will endanger you and those in your shelter. These may last for the first week of a VX attack, if not longer. However, there have been large stocks of antidote (atropine sulfate/pralidoxime chloride) autoinjectors stocked in all public shelters and subway stations. In the event that you or someone in your shelter is suffering from nerve agent poisoning, immediately apply the injector using the attached instructions.

IN CASE OF DEATH. All public shelters have a supply of sealable body bags. If there are casualties in your shelter you should put the body into one of these bags and seal it. If possible attach identification to the body before placing it in the bag. If you are in the shelter for longer than 36 hours place any body bags directly outside the shelter via the shelter's waste disposal airlock as quickly as possible.

Evacuation instructions will be broadcast as quickly as possible following the ALL-CLEAR. You should know within 24 hours when your shelter or location will be evacuated to safety. Before any evacuation from the shelter check the local surroundings for enemy activity. If you see a soldier not wearing Kerthenian or CDN insignia, stay in the shelter. There is no agreement with the following nations: KEITELS OSTRIECH, HERULAND, KRACSIS for evacuating non-combatants.

War With Keitel's Ostreich

Icaria, and the Syncretic Confederation, set up for the sole purpose of creating a new era of peace in the region, is under direct threat. The threat is not a foreign force, or long range weapons. Heruland, along with Keitel, who was even a part of the Confederation, has started an invasion, with a large force of unknown size. Although Icaria is halfway across the world from us, this does not give us an excuse to heavily aid the country. Prenzlau falls under direct threat as well. The government has almost immediately decided, after hearing of the declaration, of flooding the peninsula with Barkadian military personnel. There will be a rapid shipment of forces to bolster friendly numbers. Air and naval assets will be mobilized to aid in transportation to the front line. We hope in the next few weeks, or by whenever realistically possible, there could be up to a quarter of a million troops in Icaria, defending against the fascists. FiR-20 aircraft will be disassembled and shipped to Prenzlau, to help provide air superiority and close air support to the forces in action. Prenzlau will receive large amounts of modern hardware and vehicles, such as vastly increased shipments of T-90Bs, BTR-80s, and BMP-2s and 3s. Other weapons shipments include 9M133 Kornet ATGMs, and several modern artillery pieces. Forces already stationed with Icaria will be moved northwards immediately to counter the invasion force and buy time for reinforcements. This is all for now. Good luck to those already there.

The situation in the base, built of concrete on the marshy, temperate landscape, was mildly frantic under the red evening sky. Blorbik supercarriers Vrotona (вгятянә) and Kerapolt (кєгәпялт) sat in port, laden with a mere handful of VzP-44s but with many more in transit, and dotted by a morass of logistic vehicles and workers preparing the ships.

Having assumed that, given the state of the world, it would not be needing to mobilize again for some time, the port had an air of complacency. That was utterly shattered earlier today following urgent communications from Kerthenia of their plans if the war that intellegence indicated was coming were to break out. An emergency vote held in the Grand Council approved mobilization and preparation for a simultaneous assault. A section of the port was also being prepared for a naval force not currently nearby. In the coming days, Anderian naval forces were to arrive and base out of the port, assisting in the imminent movement north.

Yesterday, Keitel's fascist pseudostate invaded the Federal Republic of Icaria. They even invaded the Federal Republic's embassy with overt force. Such ignoble acts have lead to a rapid escalation as the CDN simultaneously moved to secure their sphere of influence. Due to the restoration of war, turmoil, and darkness to the peninsula and recognizing our position in the region, with our Security Treaty ties to the Democratic Republic of Icaria and the 23,000 Anderians stationed there, Anderia must consider our future and the future of the world. That is why, with immense pathos, Anderia has entered a period preparatory to war, and is beginning the process of Partial Mobilization. It has been a goal of my foreign policy to face the future, and foster peace on the international stage. It has been my goal that a mother should need not to mourn the loss of her sons and daughters, that Anderia should need not mourn the loss of her children. At this critical junction, we must recognize our duty to uphold the principles of liberty, justice, and camaraderie, though it means we must stand firm and prepare ourselves to resist attack at the cost of human lives. Marcel Velthuis's dreams were decidedly dashed. His attempted coup d'etat had failed spectacularly. Every time his soldiers were supposed to take responsibility and uphold their revolutionary fervor, they had betrayed him and folded. Of the entire DRI's military, 330,000 men strong, only 40,000 had remained loyal to him. Once again, he was a principled warlord, in command of the splinter groups hadn't been taken in by Hulsman's revisionism. Velthuis knew that he needed allies. An alliance of convenience with Keitel was obvious, what this had all been for, but he knew he needed outside support. Support from within the socialist world. He knew though, that even with outside support, he could only preserve the true revolutionary spirit through people's war. Undermining the military effectiveness of the FRI and DRI would be his first priority. As what forces he had with him prepared material to support their war effort, he decided that Mutne was too strategically valuable. After all to hold it directly would make him too much of a target. Our nation stands today at a precipice. We stand today at a time when our core values of freedom, of democracy, and when the courage the hearts of all Kerbalkind shall be tested more than it ever has been in recent memory. Today we stand with the free world as a beacon of liberty, a torch in the darkness burning bright against the gloom and shadows that so threaten us as they do everything and everyone we hold dear. So that one day our children, and our grandchidren and their own sons and daughters after them may live in a better world. A freer world, a world without the machinations of mad tyrants and twisted despots! We can only reaffirm our will to condemn the escalation and mutual threatening of the several parties implied in the region of Icaria. A war here is in no way necessary and in fact, war should never be the answer to any issue. God blessed us with the gift of a mouth to speak and hands to write, not to bite and strange each other at the Devil's will. I am now speaking to you the leaders of the nations threatening peace, God and your people chose you as you were the most fit to lead them to a great and bright future, not to death. Anchor: “Our top story tonight, Icaria in Flames. It has now been three days since the Nazi regimes of Ostriech, Heruland, and Kracsis declared war upon the Federal Republic of Icaria and all who choose to defend it. Turmoil in the region continues to rise as more and more countries join the fight to stop this expansionist trio. Within twenty four hours of the declaration of war all major political parties within Chikara denounced the actions of the Nazi scourge, including the Chikaran Society of Strength, Chikara’s own fascist origins party.”

Co-Anchor: “With the Icarian Peninsula being so close to home, Emperor Kuvet called an emergency joint meeting of the houses of Congress to debate Chikara’s role in the matter. After three days of debate Emperor Kuvet had this announcement to make this afternoon.”

Emperor Kuvet: “My fellow Chikaran’s, earlier this week the Nazi regimes of Ostriech, Heruland, and Kracsis declared war upon the peaceful country of the Federal Republic of Icaria. This conflict has now spread to a large scale war with the introduction of both members of the CDN and Security Treaty alliances. This expansionist action can not stand. However Chikara finds itself already in its own conflict in the west fighting the expansionist Islamic State. It is for this reason we, the Chikaran Government, have decided not to declare war upon Heruland and her allies, but rather denounce these actions and offer our countries assistance to those who fight against these heinous acts. Which is why as of today I hereby announce the following offer to all members of the CDN and Security Treaty who are actively fighting against these war mongering powers.

1. Allow for the use of Chikara’s eastern ports and airfields for resupply.
2. Allow for the use of Chikaran military hospitals in eastern Chikara.
3. The removal of all export taxes on food and medical supplies from Chikara to these allied powers.
4. Allow for entry of combatant soldiers on leave to spend their time within Chikara

These offers will remain in effect until the end of the war.

Base on the Doxian side of the Doxian-Ventrexi border, 1900, May 25th, 2019

Pauwel fueled up his CMT-7 while his gunner and driver loaded up shells into the vehicle. The strongest vehicles in the Doxian arsenal, almost all of these exceptionally modern tanks were sent to the Ventrexi border as a show of force as the two nations postured against each other. The rest of the company was set to be transferred to another spot on the border, for reasons he had yet to understand. He looked around, and noticed his gunner, Elski, on his phone. "For christ's sake, Elski, we're redeploying tomorrow morning, we need the tank in top shape for it!" Elski looked up from his phone.
"Sorry, commander, but I think you want to look at this." Elski had a news app open, with one story particularly selected. Pauwel read it out.
"War strikes Icaria! Seriously?"
"The Ostreich is invading the Federal Republic, and the CDN is backing the feds."
"And why does this matter? I'm not exactly politically aware, I suppose."
"The Ostreich is allied to Heruland, and Doxia is allied to Heruland as well."
"For fucks sake, we're going to war, aren't we?"
"No clue, government hasn't said jack shit yet. Should we go to the base commander?"
"Nah, he'll tell us if there's something to be worried about."

On the Ventrexi side of the border, at the same time.

Chris looked through the binoculars once more, then picked up his radio. "I've got visual confirmation, Doxian troops appear to be readying for combat. At the moment, the ammunition stores are wide open, artillery would be able to blow them out if we're lucky." The radio crackled back.
"We copy. RTB, that area may be getting hot soon. Target designations have been received. We wish this day had never come, but the time is now." Browd picked up his equipment, and hopped on his small ATV.

Doxian base, 1920

Pauwel sat around as the driver did engine checks on the vehicle. The commander had still yet to make announcements about any possible changes to their plans. He thought he heard the sound of jets in the distance. There weren't any passenger planes in the area, air travel between Doxia and the CDN almost never happened, and they wouldn't fly over here if they were, anyways. The airbase was also quiet, no transfers this week according to the schedule. He pondered over all of this, until the destination of his train of thought was confirmed in the same second it was derailed. Sirens blared abruptly. The PA system began to blare a repeating message: "Incoming unidentified and unresponding aircraft. Personnel, get to cover. AA crews, ready yourself to engage. This message will repeat." He ripped himself from his seat and bolted towards his CMT-7. He yelled to the driver, "Keep the engine running! I'm going to activate the APS, in case the planes try an ATGM strike!" He flipped several switches, hoping the APS was capable enough to stop whatever those planes were carrying. He climbed back out, running for the closest bunker alongside the driver. The first of many AA missiles launched at the incoming planes, as Ventrexi artillery shells rained down near the base. "God, of all nights, this one?"

40 minutes later

By now, the situation had gotten bad. Planes from both sides had scrambled and entered the air, with the setting sun being blocked by the billowing smoke from their burning wrecks. Artillery barrages from both sides had disabled all long range communications, and chaos reigned. For most of the soldiers, it was the first they had seen of war, and it was hell. By now, the artillery from both sides had stopped, with both being wary of counter-battery fire. The base had regrouped, and the base commander had finally opened the envelope that detailed the contingency plan. As far as everyone knew, they were at war. Pauwel received his orders from the platoon leader. Their platoon was to be in the spearhead of the assault on Ventrexi positions, though tanks 5 and 6 were unavailable due to airstrikes. "This will be a hell of a long night," Pauwel said to himself.

The Doxian-Ventrexi border, 2100

The platoon of CMT-7s stood at the forefront of the large formation of armor, with almost every type of armored vehicle in service in the Doxian military behind them. A wing of attack aircraft streaked over the fast-moving formation, undoubtedly softening up the base, while the nearby helicopters did recon and anti-tank work, some trying to evade AA missiles, with some having far more success than others. The sun had set, and the only light came from the fires. They blazed past the border crossing, driving towards the lights of a nearby city. Flicking on the night vision, Pauwel spotted several Ventrexi tanks. "Hostiles! Bearing 320!" he spoke over the radio, then spoke at Elski. "Ready solid shot!" Elski replied quickly,
"Affirmative! Range 2300! Firing!" The vehicle rocked back from the force from its 120mm gun discharging a shell, with the other vehicles in the platoon doing the same. Watching closely, Pauwel noted the shell going wide.
"Negative hit! Try again!" The Ventrexi tanks let loose their own shells, hitting a few of the CMT-5s further back in the formation.
"Firing!" Pauwel watched the shell fly again, and this time it hit true.
"Positive hit! Move on to next target, bearing 319!"
"Affirmative! Range 2000! Fir-" Before Elski could pull the trigger, the tank was rocked by the sudden sound of a shell impacting and ricocheting. Pauwel took stock of the situation first.
"Everyone alive?"
"Affirmative!"
"Affirmative, negative damage!"
"Great, now get the gun firing, Elski!"
"Affirmative! Distance 1900! Firing!" By this point, most of the hostile vehicles were gone, but this shell hit one of the few surviving vehicles, yet failed to penetrate.
"Positive hit, negative kill! Fire again!"
"Affirmative! Range 1800! Firing!" In the minutely over a second it took the shell to hit its target, the hostiles fired their own lucky shells, impacting two of the leading CMT-7s, stopping them in the midst of their charge.
"Positive hit, positive kill! However, tanks 2 and 3 are down!"
"Dammit!"
"Friendlies got the last one! Driver, continue advance!" With the vehicles cleared, the formation advanced on the town, illuminated by the flames that burned their friends.

The town of New Haven, 0500, May 26th, 2019

Pauwel was tired as fuck. He had been awake for almost 22 hours at this point, with almost 10 hours of that being the most intense of his life. They had stopped at this town, as they were running low on fuel. The resistance in the town had collapsed, and they were awaiting a counterattack. Suddenly, the radio crackled to life as a voice began to speak in broken Doxian. "This is the local commander of the Ventrexi forces. We have received word from higher command that we are to stand down and request a cease fire. We are not at war, repeat, we are not at war! We are requesting a ceasefire!" Another voice began to speak into the radio as well.
"This is the local commander of the Doxian forces. We will accept your ceasefire and await the repair of our communication systems. All Doxian forces, stand down." Pauwel sighed. Was this whole thing a waste of his valuable time?

DOXIAN DIPLOMATIC ANNOUNCEMENT

Following the recent events in Icaria, the New Doxian Empire has affirmed its neutrality in current geopolitical affairs. We do condemn the obvious Kerthenian expansionism in their actions against The Ostreich, however their cause is already doomed. As well, Herulic involvement in this has caused far too much endangerment to the New Doxian Empire, and thusly, we have terminated the Herulic-Doxian Mutual Assistance Pact. Herulic issues are not going to the downfall of our great Empire, and we will not stand for the blatant disregard of our interests by our own allies. If our great Doxia must go alone, then we shall stand alone! We alone will be the bulwark against the Kerthenians!

Bakarra airbase

In a formidable thunder, the engines of the Kaio started up. Out of the barracks a few soldiers walked out towards the big transport plane. Wide scarfs covering their faces and a dark brown uniform distinguished them from the common Edusan cannon fodder. They were soldiers of the Nomadic Legion. A strange light was shining in their eyes, it wasn't hate, it wasn't sadness, it was something way stronger, way more fearful, it was fanaticism. The few Edusan priests sent towards them surpassed themselves much to their surprise, in less than two month, they turn the devastated Edusan nomads of the Legion into dangerous warriors dedicating each of their murder to God. Their old idols and tales who fade away with the death of many of their elders in the genocide and ensuing war were prone to be erased by a new faith answering to their fear, giving them a shelter against a world which mostly rejected them. in the first weeks they became devotes and then more and more turned their new beliefs into a wicked faith, mix of their old legends and the new myths the missionaries taught them. The wooden furniture of their rifles were covered in carved esoteric symbols, on their arms, monstrous seven headed snakes breathing fire were clutching crosses made out of ink. Their planes bore the name of new saints to which they attributed the most fabulous powers of their elder gods. Most of them rejoiced of their first official affectation, their first opportunity to fight for their God. Only a few officers who understood the full reach of their madness knew the danger of sending them so close to an operational theater yet force them to not take part in the combats but orders were orders.
