Breaking News

We apologize for interrupting your normal daily broadcast...

"This is Pine Station, bringing you all news Barkadian since 2005. Breaking new strikes yet again as those across the border in Kolonia bring a double bombshell to global attention. Their parliament seemingly has confirmed a catastrophic uranium spill near the Slavian border, where said radioactive substances have spilled across a large area causing contamination. They also confirmed local reports of widespread contamination of the water supply for the large mining city of Bana, meaning that up to millions of people have ingested a large enough amount to increase the amount of cancers, or even worse. If what was said is true, it would be one of the largest disasters ever in Barkadian history, and it has the ability to cause mass death and damage still, right now."

He sighs, flips some pages in his packet, and continues reading again.

"The other thing they have also revealed is the shootdown of a jumbo jet as it crossed over to Barkadian airspace. Serrian news pages released an unconfirmed story of it being missing last night, although the cause was unknown. It now appears that the Kolonians have confirmed the cause. A missile, most likely launched from one of the many S-400 installations near the border, exploded next to the airliner, causing it to rapidly disassemble and crash near a small hamlet on the border, killing everyone on board and destroying an unoccupied house. The radar footage and video camera recordings of the incident are proven real, which confirms that this did occur. There has been no word from the government or the military about th-"

He pushes a finger against his earpiece.

"Wait, hold on. I have just been made aware of something. The True Pine is having an emergency conference within the Rada building. Give us a moment, we're establishing a feed now."

The screen turns black, and then cuts to the True Pine behind a podium in a mostly empty conference room, with reporters running in through the back doors. She begins talking.

"I want to apologize for the suddenness of this, I understand how random this conference thing is. Anyways, I will get started immediately. What has been revealed to the world, exposed by are enemies, is somewhat true. But may I remind everyone where this information came from. This wasn't some neutral country, this wasn't one of our allies. This was Kolonia. A nation well known to us to be a harbinger of misinformation and conflict for the continent, and anything they say must be taken with a massive grain of salt. There was a train that derailed with uranium on board. Was there a massive spill of radioactive elements? Are our people poisoned? Of course not. Kolonia has gone out of its way to lie and bring panic to our country, in another desperate attempt to bring disaster. Was a large passenger aircraft shot down over the border? Yes, there was. I will not pretend it did not happen. But was it intentional? Did we go out of our way to suddenly end the lives of 408 people? Ridiculous! What happened was that a conscript abused prescription medication, became jumpy and erratic, and suddenly ordered the missile battery to open fire! Serria is one of our closest non-aligned economic partners. We would never intentionally destroy or harm their efforts to conduct business and trade with anyone. The radar operator has already been forcefully removed from their position, and will be court martialed until conviction. We can only hope that another incident like this can never occur. I will now be taking questions."

People start jumping in their seats and waving their hands She points to a reporter in the second row.

"Ma'am, I am not doubting your awareness or anyone else's, but how can you be sure there wasn't a major spillage like what was claimed?"

"We have been testing surface water, groundwater, and the surface for radioactive elements daily. So far, nothing too far above normal levels."

She points to someone else in the back row.

"Ma'am, how do you plan to address the likely political conflicts between Serria and Kolonia?"

"That's a little difficult to answer. We will have to tread carefully with Serria for a little while. They of course are very upset at us, and we hopefully can find away to successfully pay reparations and do other things to apologize. Kolonia on the other hand will most likely continue to spread misinformation to the world, and as much as most of the Western hemisphere already dislikes us, it will continue to harm our reputation. We want to continue having neutral relations with some of the CDN and neutral world. But if this continues, we cannot, and we must do something."

She continues to answer questions for a few minutes. She then suddenly walks off the stage and through a door. Guards escort the reporters out through the front doors.

Banquet

Postby Tungusta » Fri Oct 02, 2020 3:11 pm

TUNGUSKAN NEWS CORPORATION

President Smirnov and 15 of the best handpicked Tunguskan students meet the Emperor of Iconia!

On 17th September, President Smirnov got off the presidential transport aircraft along with 15 handpicked Tunguskan students. Together, they got onto a limousine and drove off to the Iconian State Banquet. One of the students there agreed to talk to our news team about what happened inside from their perspective.

"We were one of the first ones in the banquet. The first thing I noticed was how grand everything was. The cutlery was shined to perfection. We sat down for roughly 20 minutes to wait for people to arrive. Once everyone was settled, the first thing I noticed was a distinct smell of smoke coming from a room. I thought nothing of it at the time and considered that it could just be my imagination. After a while, the food finally came. It looked slightly overcooked but I didn't think anything of that either. Tasting the food, I noticed it tasted weird. It was an unexplainable taste. To be respectful, I didn't complain and ate as much as I could. Around 10 minutes after eating, almost everyone in the room had turned a few shades paler. I had to go to a toilet to throw up. Two others also went to the toilet and everyone else clearly wasn't very happy with the food. The Barkadian group ordered some pizza. Meanwhile, Princess Dendarian of the Iconian Royal Family was at the table drinking. She was quite flirty with all of us students and asked us all sorts of questions such as what life was like in Tunguska. Eventually, she winked at one of the students and together they left out the room. Eventually, while they were still gone, the pizza arrived. Immediately, the Kolonian security team demanded to inspect the pizza. The Barkadian security team denied the Kolonians the right to inspect the pizza. This eventually lead to a fistfight and from then on everything went to shit. At that point, the Iconian Emperor and the Verkimlundi prime minister started smoking. This lead to the sprinklers going off which ironically ruined some pizza slices. One thing I noticed was that President Smirnov drunk heavily and at one point getting so drunk that he started flirting with someone and ended up with a broken nose. Upon leaving the banquet, we found out that the reason the food was so bad was due to a kitchen fire most likely causing the food poisoning."

Bana General Hospital

"Andrej, I think what they're saying on the news is right, you know?"

"How so, dude? Can't believe everything you see, especially since it was from the Kolonians."

"Well, as a nephrologist, I kind of work with kidneys and stuff."

"Obviously."

"Do you know how many patients and emergency calls we've been getting that have to do with kidneys? It was a sudden spike starting a few weeks ago. People have been coming in with acute kidney failure, either after diagnosing themselves online or being delivered by the EMTs. The funny thing is that most of these people are otherwise healthy, with some exceptions. But their kidneys have been fried."

"What are you trying to say?"

"You really don't know?! Well of course you wouldn't, you stick to your official government crap. There's enough radiation in the water supply to be poisoning these people! There's already some people at end stage! We don't have nearly enough dialysis machines or spare kidneys to save them! I've had to watch plenty of young, healthy people wither away and die from the waste still trapped in their bodies, while the uranium continues to fry them. There's still a lot more laying in beds up and down these hallways, hoping against hope that they'll be the ones we have the resources for. We've been treating for radiation poisoning and kidney damage and failure already, but the medicine supplies are draining."

"Could just be a coincidence?"

"You are an actual idiot if you believe so. What they are saying has to be right. What else could it be, huh? Everyone's kidneys just suddenly fail for no reason?! The way above average levels of uranium in their bloodstreams and organs just appeared out of nowhere?!? Don't be a dumbass, David. This is all from the spillage."

"I guess I can see what you mean. Sorry for being stupid."

"Oh damn, I didn't mean it that way, man. I'm just so pissed at all of this. The government has been lying, and people have been buying into all of their crap. This is all bullshit, all of this. I'm so enraged."

"Don't take your anger out on me then. Seems like you know who to be mad at anyways."

"I am sorry for yelling at you. I have to be in a call now, goodbye."

"See you later man."

DNN Weekly News Report, 3 October 2020.
By Steve Kerman, 03/10/2020, DNN World News.

Good morning, evening, or whatever time it is wherever you are, and welcome to this
week's DNN Weekly News report! Today's article covers the latest and most important news from
this past week, including the recent start of election season in the Serrian Archipelago, joint naval
development with Iconia and Kolonia, and other top stories from both within Dolfikland and
around the globe.

MILITARY
ROYAL NAVY ANNOUNCES JOINT SUBMARINE DEVELOPMENT PROJECT
Image

ADMIRALTY HOUSE, DOLFONBURG - Naval officials earlier this week announced the
international participation of Kolonia and Iconia in the development of the King William class
nuclear submarines, which represent the next generation of the Kingsrike's nuclear deterrent.

Although it has been known for some time that the Royal Navy has been funneling resources
to the development of an until-now unnamed class of ballistic missile submarines, this new
development reveals the extent to which the Navy is willing to cooperate with foreign
nations in such a project. 18 submarines are planned to be built, divided in thirds between
the Royal Navy, where it will serve as a nuclear deterrent ballistic missile submarine carrying
12 nuclear-tipped missiles, and the navies of Iconia and Kolonia, where it will serve as a
conventional missile platform carrying 84 cruise missiles, representing a remarkable force
even without possessing a nuclear armament.

Construction of the class has already begun in Baysmouth Royal Naval Dockyard, where the
keel has been laid and the early phases of the submarine's assembly begun. The project is
expected to involve technical design work from all three parties, including Iconian-developed
sensor systems and a Dolfik built reactor. The Royal Navy currently expects construction on
all submarines to be finished by the early 2030s, but no specific date has yet been set by which
the class will have entered service.

DNSA ANNOUNCES 'INTERNATIONAL SPACE COOPERATION PROGRAM'
Image

DOLFIK NATIONAL SPACE AGENCY HEADQUARTERS, DOLFONBURG - The DNSA recently
announced what it calls the "International Space Cooperation Program" (ISCP). The program
is aimed at promoting international cooperation with other nations in the field of space development
and exploration, particularly with nations lacking their own indigenous space industry.

The DNSA has previously worked with foreign nations in various fields, including various joint scientific
research projects, aswell as the Serrian module on the Dolfik National Space Station. However, the
ISDP represents an attempt to develop a comprehensive strategy and program to cover all such
cooperation with foreign nations. DNSA director James Kerman was quoted as stating the following:

"The [International Space Cooperation] Program represents an extraordinary opportunity really.
Say some small nation wants to send a probe past one of the planets? We can talk to them, and reach an
agreement where, in exchange for us, say, putting some of our instruments on it, we can split the full
cost and launch it on one of our boosters for much less than it would've cost that country to do it all
alone, and of course we can reach similar agreements for things like sending one of their cosmonauts
to Minmus or Laythe, or setting up satellite networks orbiting Kerbin, and so on. So really, what we're
doing here is taking space, which has historically been the domain of the big powers such as ourselves,
Anderia, the Serthenians, and more recently places like Serria, and opening it up to
any nation willing to work with us, which as I said is a really outstanding opportunity for us to expand
this field and really increase the international diversity in it."

It was later stressed that the strategy developed under the ISC program will represent the primary one
utilized in future with any such international cooperation, with efforts already being made to incorporate
existing cooperative projects with other nations into it. The program is claimed to be the pinnacle of
years of various efforts made to increase such cooperation, and was said to be hoped to bring about a
"golden age" in global development in the space field, be it developing orbital satellite infrastructure to
support nations on the ground, or new feats of exploration throughout the Kerbol System.

INTERNATIONAL
2020 ELECTION SEASON BEGINS IN SERRIA
Image
Vellina, Serria, where leftist-led rallies recently took place. (Credit: Vellina Times)

VELLINA, SERRIA – Election season for the Serrian Congress of Dukes began recently, with the
largest parties holding rallies in their stronghold cities. In the capital, Minister-President Sofia
Moretti gave a speech, emphasizing the success of the Status Quo Party’s majority in growing
the economy, modernizing the Serrian Defense Force, and increasing influence abroad. Those policy
successes played a large part in the Order of Serria Party’s endorsement of Status Quo and Sofia
Moretti’s 2022 rebid for MP.

Leftists within the Congress held events in the largest city, Vellina. The Serrian Socialist and Social
Democracy parties’ events drew their expected turnout, with their main divide being their
differentiating economic and foreign policy. In the past, SDP formed their coalition with Status Quo,
but depending on the outcome of the election, this may change.

The Republican-Conservative Coalition and the Libertarian Party gave a fiery denouncement of the
Moretti administration, and demanded a harder stance on the newly formed Union of Socialist
Council Communes, as well as an elimination of a new round of social programs passed two months
ago by the Congress.

Overall, recent polling shows that the Status Quo coalition holds a sizable lead, with Moretti’s
government’s approval rating holding steady at 63% in a recent Vellina Times poll, which holds an
A- rating. With the election months away, it is uncertain who will carry the legislature into 2021,
but only time will tell.

-Steve Kerman, DNN.

Sharing nuclear submarine technology with nations like Iconia and Kolonia is an incredibly stupid move, and it's shocking that the Royal Navy never seems to have realized this.

Why does the article mention "Kolonia" as being one of the partners in the submarine project? Everyone knows that it isn't a real country.

This is Pine Station, bringing you all news Barkadian since 2005.

"Good morning, Barkadia. We come to you today with sudden and major news from the mining city of Bana. The city is being enveloped in a wave of confusion, anger, and fear, as reports from the government, outside reconnaissance, and scientists, continue to remain erratic and in disagreement with each other. No one in the city is sure of what is going on, and a lot feel they have been left in the dark. One thing is for sure is the massive increase in kidney illness in failure in hospitals in and around the city. Reports from nephrologists are grim, with many otherwise healthy people experiencing acute kidney diseases and failure, and many have passed away due to the overwhelming amount of cases and lack of aid dispensed to the region. Preliminary blood tests conducted on the patients have confirmed that the cause for almost all of these cases have been from high levels of ingested uranium over the course of a few weeks. This seemingly confirms that the uranium canisters failed and spilled a large amount of their cargo into the river and surrounding area."

He flips the page in his packet.

"Protests have begun to erupt in Bana, with people forming in front of government buildings and pharmacies across the city, demanding iodine, a full cleanup of the spill and the water supply, and more aid sent to hospitals to treat the radiation exposure. So far, they have remained unarmed and peaceful, and continue to wave their signs and chant slogans such as, "GIVE US IODINE," and , "You have failed us!". Reporter Katarína Hodžová is on the scene."

The camera cuts to a reporter standing silently.

"Thanks, David. As you can see behind me, a large crowd has indeed formed in front of the Bana Council building, demanding answers, help, and safety from the radiation that they claim continues to poison. The anger is loud and clear across the city today, as large groups, some with speakers, continue to demand clarity and help which has not arrived. A small amount of doctors and nurses have also taken to the streets, siding with the protesters, claiming that the government has ignored their pleas for help, as more continue to die and become permanently injured in hospitals due to lack of resources. Back to you at the station, Dave."

"Thank you Katarina. The government has no comment for us at this time. The Union of Pharmacists says that they do not want to dispense iodine tablets freely until there is absolute certainty about the extent of the disaster, and because there would be a mass shortage across the city, stripping those who do definitely need it from getting access to their medicine. This is all for now, thanks for watching."

"Up next, are you safe from radiation? The Barkadian Minister of Nuclear Energy will brief you on what you need to do to avoid poisoning."

Doxian Labor Administration, September 28th, 2020

"Afternoon, Jeff"
"Hey, Simon"
"So, I've got a slight issue. Mind following me for a second?" Jeff tails Simon back to his desk.
"So, what's wrong?"
"Well, this guy, Ramond Deer. He just retired from the Valeradejo PD last month. So, I go to see where to mail the pension." Simon types the name in with his typical urgency.
"So... is the internet out? Why's the screen blank?"
"I thought it might just be a database error, but i've been looking through all the Valeradejo PD retirement notices we've been getting, and they're all blank in the records."
"And this means? Maybe the database didn't migrate when we transferred the Cascans in?"
"But I kept digging. None of these people exist, or have ever existed. No social media, no birth certificates, nothing. The Valeradejo PD does not exist. Hell, there's been no news out of Valeradejo for months! Just bogus government reports going in to each administrative department. How does an entire region just disappear?"

Late morning, October 5th, 2020

The platoon of wheeled IFVs rolled down the narrow country highway, flanked by fields or forests for the past few hours. The soldiers stewed in the troop compartments, the first deployment for many of the members of the Cascan garrison. The roads sat devoid of cars, or the tractors which are commonplace for the rural regions of Cascablanca. Their nerves on edge, the soldiers surveyed the crop fields, every gust of the wind ruffling the corn indeterminable from a partisan ready for an ambush. All anyone knew was that the town had been lying about everything for months, and it was the platoon's job to find out why.
As the convoy's suspense reached a peak, the town of Montiel rolled into view. A typical country town, with a number of local restaurants and stores in its center surrounded by small houses, either made of light red brick or bleached white stone. Yet it still appeared to be a ghost town. Lights shined on in shops, cars parked nearby. But when the convoy reached the center of the town, a glaringly out-of-place sight was there. A barricade made of sandbags and cars parked end-to-end, blocking the road. The convoy halted. As the soldiers deliberated on their next actions, two men and a woman appeared out of a shop behind the barricade. The woman held a long piece of PVC pipe with a towel on the end, an impromptu white flag. The men aside her carried rifles, not particularly modern, but still difficult for a civilian to obtain. They walked in front of the stopped convoy, awaiting the response from the soldiers.
After light radio chatter, the squad in the first vehicle disembarked, alongside the lieutenant. With a confident stride, the squad approached the trio. The woman broke the dull thrum of the engines. "It is my duty to inform you that you have impeded on our people's land. We request that you leave the Free Territory of Cascablanca as soon as currently possible, as you do not appear to be defectors. If you so request, we are willing to provide a militia escort. There have been reports of robberies on the highways, partially due to our lighter-handed approach to public order than the previous regime."
The lieutenant scoffed at the lightly-disguised insult. "That won't be necessary. And what happens if we don't leave?"
"Well, it is also my duty to inform you that you are surrounded, and should any hostile action be taken against a denizen of the Free Territory, our companions are more than willing to crush your convoy with extreme prejudice." She raised her voice. "Companions, would you be willing to show the boot our nail?"
The windows of the flanking buildings opened, revealing dozens of civilians, armed with more variants of rifle than could be counted, with a slim few on the roofs carrying anti-tank weaponry, mostly Doxian, but also several of foreign design. The soldiers turned, attempting to assess the situation, and ready themselves for a possible fight. "Now, if you value the lives of your men, I would recommend that you turn back." The lieutenant nodded in agreement.
"While we are keen on accepting your offer, we cannot go home empty-handed. Do you have any means for continued connections with your... 'Free Territory?'"
"Most of the inter-regional communication systems are still intact. Though there may not be a leader for you to call, you can always send messages to the whole of the Free Territory, and I'll call a vote about permitting your government to send mail to members of the Free Territory as long as the delivery vehicles are clearly marked. We'll inform you if it passes."
"I guess that'll have to do. I'm not exactly in a position to negotiate."
"Now get back in your vehicles before a labor camp escapee gets impatient with his former captors."
The soldiers didn't need to be told twice. They quickly piled back into their IFVs, before the convoy reversed out of the street before reorganizing and turning around back onto the highway.

Second September Congress of the Free Territory of Cascablanca, October 7th, 2020

"...That will be all the debate we have for on this resolution. Options will be on the voting form that will be available after the conclusion of this congress. Moving on, we have companion Elvira Ryder, who resides in Montiel. You have the floor." Elvira stood at the podium, with cameras in the back broadcasting to Escondido, the limited-access social media that was created for denizens of the Free Territory. Elvira pulled the microphone towards her face.
"Companions, I must thank you for allowing me to speak to you today. I come with news of a grave danger. The Doxian military was spotted entering the Free Territory for the first time since it was founded, early this Tuesday. Our scouts were able to give ample warning, and through a show of force by our companions in the Cascan Insurrection Army, we were able to drive their meager force off. But this will not be the end. Now that they have taken note of our existence, they will attempt to destroy us. Whether it be by words or by gun, they will not allow us to coexist with them. It is obvious that as of now, we do not own sufficient arms or ammunition to stand against the Doxian invaders. Thusly, basing my numbers off of the productivity reports of our region, I have created a comprehensive plan by which we can expand and strengthen the Cascan Insurrection Army by obtaining new rifles and support weapons, improving combat training for our citizens who desire, and creating fortified points to ward off Doxian forces. Of course, this is quite a major plan, and thusly will be placed upon the ballot. More details are available in the documentation for this congress and on my Escondido page. Thank you for hearing me."
The congress sat in stunned silence for some time, before a man raised his hand. The congress's Companion Pro Tempore called upon him. "Companion, please state your name, origin, and desired action."
"I am Sylvar Moreno, of the city of Valeradejo. I wish to make a proposal." The Companion Pro Tempore sized him up before continuing.
"Companion, please approach the podium." Sylvar stands up proudly, his tall and stocky figure imposing on the audience. He carried the patch of the Cascan Insurrection Army on his sleeve, his camouflage jacket cementing his militant visage. He stopped at the podium, gazing around at the intimidated crowd.
"Companions! You have heard of the greatest threat to our freedom since the Doxian Invasion. Yet in this darkest of times, we mustn't slink away in fear. We all have families, friends, homes. If we simply fortify our own land, the Doxian menace will bomb us to shreds, and everything we care about along with it." The crowd murmurs expectantly, wondering where he could be going. "In times like this, we must remember our companions. Near and far, they cry for freedom, from the yoke of the state! We must defend our freedom, and aid our brethren in freeing themselves. I say we still obtain all the arms we can. But we do not fortify. Instead, we contact our siblings across Cascablanca. We inspire them to resist, to protest, to revolt against the imperialist and oppressive acts of the Doxians! We bring in volunteers from across the globe, and we liberate Cascablanca from the Doxians! We will cower no longer, hiding from the guard dog. We will bite back!" Members of the audience break into applause as Sylvar returns to his chair. The Companion Pro-Tempore waits for the applause to abate before continuing.
"Companion Sylvar's proposal will run against that of companion Elvira on the ballot, and we will expect more detailed plans from Sylvar if his proposal wins. While further matters may seem trivial compared to what just conspired, they are still important. Moving on..."

If you're wondering, yes, Doxia and the SUNC are not the same. Try your best not to get confused.

Fulusi city limits, USCC. 0010

Luca grabs an aluminum bottle and sips his coffee, before leaning his head on the window. Everyone was exhausted from a long day of preparation. The van drives over a pothole and his head lifts off and then slams back onto the window.

“Do you do this on purpose?” he asks facetiously. He puts his hand on his face.

“Anything to piss you off.” She answers, swerving the fan left and right on the empty road. His head hits the glass two more times before he finally takes his head back onto the seat.

“There is a special place in hell for you, you know.” He connects his phone to the van’s Bluetooth and scrolls around for a song to play. He taps on one and closes his eyes, just awake enough to know how tired he was.

“This better not be that synths bullshit…” Roberto lets out from the back seat.

Carry on my wayward son! There’ll be peace when you are done – Lay your weary head to rest, don’t you cry no more!

“It’s not synths Sunday, Roberto!” Luca yells out, proud of his air guitar. He becomes slightly concerned when he looks over and sees her doing the same, while supposedly driving. She lowers her driver’s side window and the van accelerates noticeably and everyone shouts together:

Once I rose above the noise and confusion, just to get a glimpse beyond the illusion, I was soaring ever higher, but I flew too high… Through my eyes could see I was still a blind man, though my mind could think I still was a mad man, and I hear the voices when I’m dreaming, I can hear them say:

Carry on my wayward son! There’ll be peace when you are done. Lay your weary head to res-
She brakes quickly, pulls the car into an alleyway, and turns off the engine. The music suddenly stops, and she looks to her right.

“Don’t you cry no more?” She makes a smirk and opens her door before jumping out and banging the side of the van twice. “Let’s go!”

“You really are zero fun, aren’t you? Back to work!” Luca says. Roberto can be heard in the back of the van gathering his things before opening the rear doors. She makes her way to the back of the van as Roberto tosses the supplies onto the moonlit alleyway. The car they were looking for was where it was supposed to be.

“Seems like everything’s in order with our contact,” she says, lighting a cigarette before picking up a bag labelled KBN Gear.

“Courtesy of their fallen angels!” Roberto says, grabbing two bags and making his way to the car with her. Luca assembles a light machine gun.

“So our guy is coming here tomorrow morning at 0745, picking up the stuff, and doing his thing?” Luca asks while working. He grabs a rag and cleans the drum assembly.

“Yeah, he’s kind of insane, but with what we’re giving him he’s their crazy, not our crazy.” she opens the trunk and shoves aside some junk before loading the bag in. She rips off the Velcro label. Roberto loads in his two bags and closes the trunk.

“Think he’ll make it?” Luca says, with the assembled firearm on his left shoulder, carrying the ammunition in his right hand. He looks over at her as she throws her cigarette on the ground and snuffs it out with her boot.

“Counting on that he won’t.” She says, as she zips up her jacket and makes her way back over to the van. Roberto follows her. Luca puts his ammo can under the driver’s seat and the firearm in the backseat. He covers it with a blanket, closes the door, and turns away. The van drives off the way it came.
"And, while with silent, lifting mind I've trod
The high untrespassed sanctity of space,
– Put out my hand, and touched the face of God.""

Pope Dante Assassinated In Mass Shooting, Former KBN Denies Alleged Involvement

    Image
Exterior Balcony of Oidemp Palace and Modern Catholic Cathedral Giosi At Which Dante was Assassinated

Pope Dante, Antipope of the brand new Sedeńrionale state, was killed just minutes ago when a shooter opened fire with a drum fed assault rifle in Giosi Cathedral, the first time Dante has made an appearance to a crowd open to anyone. After assassinating the Pope, the shooter fired into the dense crowd, leaving 14 members of the audience already confirmed dead and many more in critical condition. No members of the clergy other than Pope Dante have been reported killed or injured at this time, with the dead limited to audience members and two local law enforcement officers. The shooter was shot and killed by local law enforcement after injuring four officers and killing two, who arrived shortly after the shooting began.

As this event is so recent, an exact understanding of the shooting is still yet to be established, however reports have already been made that the shooter held a large amount of KBN equipment and identification on him. Transitional Collection of Departments of the Former KBN, which still largely uses the same identification, logos, and equipment as the KBN proper did, has officially denied any involvement in the attack. They claim the attack was likely either carried out by a former member of the KBN, or that the KBN equipment and identification was entirely fabricated in an attempted false flag attack. In response, local law enforcement has said that regardless of the organization's claims, "the evidence is damning". As the shooting occurred so recently, any further information on it is unfortunately not available as even local investigators have hardly scratched the surface.

Several members of the College of Cardinals selected by Pope Dante have openly accused the USCC for the attack, variously vowing for revenge or threatening decisive action against them. Niccolò IV, the Pope upheld in Serria, has already made an official comment, saying he gives his "deepest sympathies and prayers to the Sedeńrionale," hoping that despite any disagreements "all Catholics will come together over this horribly tragedy conducted by the USCC."
"The universe is probably littered with the one-planet graves of cultures which made the sensible economic decision that there's no good reason to go into space - each discovered, studied, and remembered by the ones who made the irrational decision."

    Outside a store, Bana

Angry protesters continue to yell and bang against the doors. Inside the building, the few store workers and pharmacists hide in the back of the building, almost blocked in the building by the mass of people at the front door.

"GIVE US WHAT WE NEED! WE'RE DYING OUT HERE! STOP HIDING!"

A man with a baseball bat forces his way in front of the crowd at the doors.

"It's obvious that they aren't going to relent! They will never open their doors for us, and give us the medicine! We need to break in, take what we need!"

The crowd cheers the man on as he smashes the windows in. The group of people storm in and rush the back of the store.

A store worker comes out from the back. She says, "This is not right! I personally cannot allow you all to act like animals and take this stuff like it's nothing!"

Someone pushes her out of the way. She hits her head hard on a counter. She does not get back up.

The man with the bat climbs over the counter to the pharmacy and notices the people hiding in the back.

"No one move! We're taking what's ours! Don't be a hero like the woman out front!"

People rush in behind him and start frantically searching for the iodine on the shelves. Some take bags and sweep all the pills they can into bags. After a few minutes, the pharmacy is completely empty.

    "We're done here! Let's go!"

People quickly rush out of the store and disperse as sirens go off in the distance.

When the first responders arrive, they notice the body of the store worker on the floor, with her head sitting in a pool of blood in front of the counter. They make their way to the back, noticing the empty shelves and those that were left alive cowering in the corners and back of the room.

    "Jesus Christ...."

"This is far from the only incident. We just got some more info from the radio, this is happening all across town as we speak."

"This is going to go bad fast. Let the EMTs know it's clear, and get these people to safety. We need to go."

They race back into their car and speed off down the road as the EMTs race in.

All across Bana, stores and pharmacies are being raided by protesters that could wait no more. Break ins, raids, and even shootings continue to happen into the night while a peaceful snow flurry moves across the area.

    Bana Council

The Bana Council has convened in an emergency meeting to suddenly vote. Everyone sits in a semi circle in front of a podium, where an Anarchist Party member is talking.

"I think we all know why we're here today. The circumstances within Bana have suddenly became out of control within hours. Widespread looting, murders, and threats against innocent people have taken over the city. It is in our be-"

Someone from the audience interrupts him.

"Councilman Biely, this is outrageous and you know it! The fact that you have the balls to even bring this sort of thing up! This might even pass! I honestly can't eve-"

"Councilwoman Petrová, please take your seat and let m-"

"I will not be silenced, thank you very much! Me and my comrades refuse to participate in this. The Anarchist Party continues to ignore its own principles, the principles of the nation, and the desperation of its own people. When will you learn that you will not be spared? They will throw all of you under the bus to keep themselves in power. This is no better than what it was before the revolution!

"I'm sorry that you feel that way, Petrová, but we all need to sit down and vote on this!"

"No. Me and my comrades are out of here. Fuck you and fuck all of you for even bothering to come. When the boot steps on you, we will not feel sorry."

A large part of the Council gets up out of their seats and leaves the building, with Petrová flipping them off as she walks out.

"Well, that was, well I don't know what that was. Well, anyways, looks like more than half of you are still here, so we can continue with the vote as planned. All in favor?"

A majority of the Council raises their right hand in agreement.

    "And all against?"

The rest raise their hands. There was no abstention.

"Looks like we have a majority in favor here. I will count the ones that left as abstentions. The resolution is passed."

    Someone speaks out again.

    "When will the soldiers arrive?"

"Hopefully as soon as they accept our request. They could not be a second sooner. The Council is dismissed, thank you for attending."

Important Message From the Foksberg Transition State Special Council

As detailed in the January announcement, Phase 2 of the Foksberg Transitionary Plan will begin official implementation this week.

The most imediately noticeable change is that all privately owned automobiles are hereby banned from entering the city. Public transportation routes have undergone extensive retrofits to ensure equitable and expedient access. Some personal vehicles will remain with exemptions, which can still be applied for over the next month.

Additionally, all permanent residents will be organized into 176 Wards. Each Ward will be defined primarily by geographic boundaries, with an attempt made to organize them so that all essential professions are represented. Over the next months, Ward governments will be set up to oversee the move towards self-sufficiency, which is the goal of this transitionary period.

Thirdly, a list of Fictional Jobs has been compiled below. These professions will be eliminated in the next phase of the Transitionary Plan. All members of these professions are urged to seek employment in other fields, your Ward government will help in this process.

More information will be released in the coming weeks. It is estimated this phase will take up to six months as everything is sorted out. Please remain patient as we make our way through this exciting period.

    Attachment 1: Fictional Jobs List

    Insurance: Accounting, Calculation, Sales
    Lessor
    Management Positions in: Office, Retail
    Military Contractor, Armed
    Real Estate Sales
    Stock Brokering

Across Doxia, and the world, this appeal would appear. It would be mailed to national governments, posted on image boards, social media, newspapers, and stuck on walls. The call to action read as such:

A CALL TO ARMS, AGAINST THE DOXIAN MENACE

For almost 3 years, the Doxian Empire has been a stain on the Serthenian and Mlorban continents. Its imperialistic, authoritarian, and criminal actions have brought suffering to countless persons in its attempt to dominate the Sekap sea and cast its black curtain over millions. Whether it be enslavement for the pettiest of crimes, indiscriminate conquest with flimsy and unjustified reason, or their relentless destruction of any who may think to oppose their rule, commonly harming civilians in the process. The Doxian Empire have shown themselves to be the government most tolerant of the suffering of the people it was supposed to serve.

In these conditions, resistance becomes duty.

Months ago, we, the people of Valerdejo, realized this truth. Being a rural and inland Cascan region, we cast off the Doxian shackles with relative ease, though we will still remember the losses of our companions; our neighbors, our friends. We strove to build a new community, to move past the tyranny of old, and stand above the squabbling and oppressive governments of the world. We came together, and created the Free Territory of Cascablanca. Learning from the failures of the Barkadians and others who stood before us, we strive to create a truly anarchist realm, to free people of all kinds. But now, we, and the world, stand at a crossroads. The Doxians have taken note of our experiment, and no doubt wish to see it destroyed. And thusly, persons of the world, we call to you to aid, even if there is nothing we can return.

People of Cascablanca, Doxia, and Aquarius. We beg you to stand in solidarity. Whether it be a strike, a protest, or taking up arms to liberate yourself and your brethren. Do whatever you can to impede the Doxians, and join our cause for the destruction of the Doxian oppressor. Companions abroad, do not believe you are helpless. For those who are able, find volunteer organizations to join the fight arm-in-arm with us. For those unable to leave, send supplies, arms, funds, whatever you have will be appreciated. And to the governments: though we may stand opposed on most days, we must ask to find common cause. Today, useless condemnations and sanctions will not do. The Doxians will simply be emboldened by your empty words. To the communists and socialists, we must stand against the oppressive reign of capital and oppression of the worker and "proletariat." To the Liberals, are the Doxians not a monarchistic, imperialist threat that serves to only harm your interests? Much as we despise each other, is the archaic Empire really something you wish to stand behind? Companions of the world, we must stand, arms interlocked, against the monstrous Doxian empire!

Doxian Administration of Security, October 19th, 2020

August Carter strode into the drab conference room with a scowl, and a packet of papers in his hand. The Grand Minister took his position at the head of the table, a common occurrence, given the worsening mental and physical health of the monarch. He set his papers down before him. "So. To start, how widespread is it?" Eyes wandered nervously, none willing to be the one to say it. Finally, Tali Visota cleared her throat. The young woman, despite being a short and prim looking woman, was the golden child of the Doxian Legermacht. She would commonly speak fondly of her time as a pilot, almost reviling the story of the time her wing decimated a convoy of troops in the Ostreichi conflicts, even as some would interject on deaf ears that the convoy contained civilians. She spoke in her usual proud, crowd-pleasing manner.
"Quite. Through numerous means, the information has spread domestically and abroad. We don't know the effect it has had abroad, and if any countries dare to subvert our security, we will deploy our forces to crush them with ease, as a reminder. It is more than obvious that the proud Doxian people will ignore this obvious libel and smear against the wonderful country their soldiers and workers have worked so hard to make."
"And that's why the border region of Helechal has already lost contact with the regional airport, and its border crossing with Dendari?" Brady Michael, the previous Grand Minister reclined back in his seat with a smug smirk. While some call him a slimy bastard, with no real stances, his stabilization of the Empire in its earliest days and massive expansion of its territory earned him friends in the government and populace. His graceful acceptance of his dismissal left many allies among the upper echelons of the Doxian bureaucracy. He tugged on his suit, and then began his speech. "As optimistic as our Miss Visota may be, it's obvious the people cannot be counted to support us forever. I say we do as we have always done: mass our forces, demand their surrender, and if not, crush them slowly and meticulously. They shouldn't have a chance against even a small fraction of our army. But surely August over here would rather negotiate with terrorists than fight them, hmm?" The Grand Minister sat wide-eyed at the rebuke. Despite being similarly old to the rest of the group, he obtained his position to appease the student protestors wreaking havoc on the workforce. His reformist policies made him allies, and staunch enemies. Yet the grace of the monarch gave him his position, and for now none would challenge him.
"Well that's a gross oversimplification of the way I deal with crises-"
"-and that's how 9 Aquarian citizens ended up dead in their homes after a drone strike?"
"And if it was you it'd be 90!"
The shouting match escalated, Tali interjecting when she could. But they would all hush when Dentas Miller spoke one word.
"Fools." The old man gave a stone-cold glare around the room, his spectacles magnifying the roaring fire inside his eyes. A Herulic immigrant, he ruthlessly commanded the intelligence and Special Security forces of the Empire, both domestic and abroad. He organized the penal labor camps, arrested dissidents, and held undying loyalty among his men, and invoked fear on all who did not serve him. "You think this is a one-off occasion? They will simply pop up again and again. When this one is destroyed, if I had the chance, I'd bulldoze the whole city and make it into one large labor camp. It'd increase productivity in the region by 22.8%." The room sat silent, weary looks exchanging between Tali, Brady, and August.August was first to regain composure, stacking his papers before straightening them loudly against the desk.
"Well, if we have come to no conclusions, i declare this meeting adjourned. Good day."
If you're wondering, yes, Doxia and the SUNC are not the same. Try your best not to get confused.

    HIGHLY CONFIDENTIAL
TO BE BROUGHT OUT OF STORAGE
    Cmd. Yeltzin,
The Kolonian Government has approved a sale of 182 aircraft to the Doxian region at this current moment.
These aircraft are to be transferred to Pribram Naval Air Station for immediate inspection and transport.
Please begin delivery of the following aircraft to PNAS:
    145 x Su-22, Air Force reserve storage
    9 x Yak-38, Naval reserve storage
    28 x MiG-29, Naval reserve storage.
SIGNED: JANEK SPANKO, MINISTER OF FOREIGN SALES

Pribram Naval Air Station, Southern Kolonia

    October 20th, 09:24

The smell of freshly made instant coffee floated through the tower. Another cold morning at the base, and another day of sub standard operations. Things had been slow since the navy had put aside its carrier for long term repairs, the majority of its aircraft pulled into reserve storage. P-1s flew into the sky daily, but the MiG-29 pilots from the carrier doing their continual training at the shortened Left runway made up a majority of the operations at the base.

The Captain at the top of the tower was drinking the mildly coffee tasting liquid when a call came in.

"Captain, this is dispatch!" Said the other caller.

The Captain picked the phone up, walking to the sea-facing windows where she could see the dispatcher's office below.

"Mike, how're you? What's the day looking like?"

"Ma'am, I'm fine, but I'm just going to send you the daily general briefing, you have to see this for yourself!"

She pulled back from the window to one of the laptops set up by the desk and drew up the briefing system, holding the phone between her neck and her shoulder. She looked at the screen, checked again, and then grabbed the phone.

    "Am I seeing this right?"

"That's correct, Ma'am, 182 arrivals, coming from OKBL and OKVM. The register says they're a mix of Su-22s, MiG-29s, and Yak-38s!"

"Who does the prior notifications here? We don't have the space for this kind of operation!"

"I have no idea, but we better make room, these things are heading for Doxia!"

Pribram Naval Air Station, Southern Kolonia

    October 20th, 14:00

The chaos of the Su-22 arrivals had subsided by the early afternoon. With aircraft still rolling in every few minutes, the airfield was alive, and space was hard to find. Almost 80 Su-22s lined one of the taxiways next to the runway. The Bo-105 wing had been routed to an army heliport nearby to make room for the Yak-38s. As the MiG-29s came in, they were stacked up underneath the tower.

Out on the tower's observation deck, the dispatcher and the Captain stood, watching the grand scene of airpower below them.

"It's unbelievable anybody buys this shit, Mike!"

    "Captain?"

"The MiGs I understand, they're great planes, but there's a reason why we put these things into storage."

"Have you not heard? Doxia's on the brink of a full scale revolution, and the government was incredibly quick to strike a deal to sell off these old aircraft. I'm not sure we would have sold them otherwise."

"So we're selling these off to the Doxian government, then?"

"Well, Ma'am..." The Captain turned her head, questioningly.

"The Su-22s are going to the Doxian government, all 145 of them."

"We both know there are 37 other aircraft on the field today."

"They're going to the rebels, Ma'am."

"Oh, you've got to be fucking kiddi-"

Another pair of MiG-29s touched down on the runway. As they rolled out to filled out parking spaces and jam-packed taxiways, the aircraft had made their final flight in Kolonia, and now stood to start a new life serving the riled up and revolutionary masses on the other side of the world.

    BARKADIA PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

After a majority vote from the Bana Council, along with approval from the central government, the city of Bana has now entered a state of martial law within the city limits. Local police forces were overwhelmed trying to stop the rioters from breaking into pharmacies and stores across the area, and tens of people have died so far from manslaughter or intentional killings. We can no longer allow the mobs to reign free across the city. They are not organized, they are not ideological, they are not fair. They are brutal and must be stopped. 7,500 soldiers will move into the city with armored vehicles and other supplies in order to defend stores and hospitals not yet affected by the raids. A temporary 7:15 PM-9:15 AM curfew will be put in place to restrict travel and movement. The city's nonessential travel and transportation will be cut off for the time being. It is hoped that within the next few days to weeks, the violence can be quelled, and civil order can be restored to the area. The Barkadian government has also decided, after weeks of organizing and stockpiling, to send massive amounts of medical aid to the city. Spare dialysis machines, medicines, and spare kidneys not urgently needed elsewhere will be transported to hospitals across the Greater Bana area to relieve the load off of hospitals and get those affected more effective treatment. The government has also begun a massive cleanup campaign for the surrounding area at the crash, and the river. The groundsoil will be dug up, the remaining radioactive materials removed, and the river purified. This will take a few months, but we hope that one day we can restore the areas affected back to normalcy. This is all for now.

Meaningless words filled the room from the television, more news about death and tragedies happening all over the world. Jordun's dad sat slouched into the practically antique sofa, half-asleep. Sverna was on fire, Mlorba was on fire, Serthenia was on fire, and Serria was selling matches and gasoline on top of it all. Empty cups of coffee sat on every flat surface in the apartment besides the kitchen counters. The skies over Casablanca were filled with bombs and missiles, waiting. Torn jeans sat neatly folded in a suitcase. Names of the victims of a shooting were read out, Jordun missed where or when it happened. Dirty socks peeked out from under the bed. Gunfire, there was always gunfire on the television these days, either footage of wars or people firing blanks so that other people could pretend to escape the wars. Jordun zipped the suitcase shut and carefully grabbed each mug and shuffled towards the kitchen. Children were starving, somewhere, apparently only 5 marks a day could help them. The mugs clattered into the sink and Jordun's dad stirred briefly, emitting a half-hearted curse at being disturbed. Military jets flew overhead, rattling the windows even more than the metro did. Jordun turned the faucet off and struggled into their hiking boots.

"Bye, dad. I'll see you." Jordun paused, "Later, I guess." They checked their pockets: wallet, phone, keys, pocket knife, ticket. The door clicked shut behind them. Buses were much busier nowadays, but it was kind of nice. It was always awkward to be one of two people on a vehicle meant for fifty, and the buses ran much faster without the traffic as well.

    * * * *

Bright morning sun shone through the hostel's windows as Jordun flipped through yesterday's La Vanguardia. The grip of a BP-118 slid out from under the pillow as Jordun hopped off their bed to go grab some breakfast. Another Faulksnian was in the lobby grabbing coffee, warning Jordun that it tasted like mud in that atrocious accent they had spent most of college trying to get rid of. On the way back to the room, Jordun tore down a faded Doxian military recruitment poster that had been hung in the hallway.

At a press conference this afternoon on storm recovery efforts, the mayor of the Nuvastian city of Maulith took a moment to thank the Eusonian Coast Guard personnel who were working as a part of the region's rescue efforts.

“Through the many search and rescue missions and clearing the way so citizens can evacuate, we see the compassion that you have for my people,” he began. “The horror that these heroes experience during these search and rescue missions, will be etched in their hearts and minds forever.”

“As a family man myself, I find it hard to imagine having to say goodbye to my family not knowing if I may never see them again… I can only imagine the bravery and strength it takes, working through floodwater, going door to door looking for survivors, pulling people out of the wreckage that they used to call home.”

His voice shaking in the end, he concludes: “You are a shining example of your nation. You are the heart and soul of Kerbin. Your humanitarian effort toward your brothers and sisters remind all of us how to be Kerbal.”

“It is truly an honor to be with you, who put your lives on the line in these times of crisis, and I thank you for inviting me to be in the presence of such incredibly giant hearts and heroes.”

This is the ideal national government. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

This is Pine Station, bringing you all news Barkadian since 2005.

"Good evening, comrades, and welcome to the broadcast. Tonight we talk about the election, which is now only three weeks away. The Anarchist Party has ruled Barkadia since the revolution in 2005, and there has been a dominant party system in place, with no one coming close to unseating their overwhelming majority. But this year may be different. With the failure to decisively win the war against Kolonia, the military draft, the perceived authoritarianism, and now the nuclear accident and the airliner shootdown, the party has been bleeding support. The 2nd August Movement, despite not being an official party, has surged ahead in popular support and membership across the country. Polls like these show the stark contrast between August and November, signifying the sudden rise in popularity of the movement. Cities across the country continue to see a surge despite being solid footholds for the Anarchist Party, with those like Bana and Prostredney polling over 70% in popular support. Even the diverse and mixed capital of Kora continues to see a rise, and it appears that there is no end in sight. There are increasing calls in almost every major city to relegitimize the movement, despite their controversial actions, which include the shooting of a Tungist council member. The Anarchist Party continues to stay silent on these matters, but it seems the harsh opposition is slowly lifting. Whatever happens, this election will be extremely close, and we urge all of our viewers to get out there and express themselves, and help push non voters or those on the fence to vote. A worker's democracy such as ours requires participation and healthy discussion. We need to know where we all stand, and how our country will continue to progress towards eternal freedom. This is all for now. Thank you for watching, and remember, Barkadia shall always be free!"
