Battle of Fort Trieze (Aftermath)

Sylbania

The battle had been victory at a pricey cost for the Arenginians, over 25,000 soldiers died to take the fort and it had taken a morale toll on the soldiers. Many still holding onto their fallen friends while crying their lost.

However not everything had been a disaster, hundreds of rebels had been taken prisoner and the ones that had escaped would soon be taken prisoner. Many soldiers had been condecorated for their bravery in the face of adversity. Boer, Aclusian, and Norcoutian's had also received the Medal of Foreign Valor. One of the Arenginian that had been the most condecorated was Boris Sansonovic, a sergeant who had been part of the soldiers that had set up the stakes for the Montain men team that without it many others would have died. He had also been the men who had led the charge and had carried the Arenginian flag all the way to be flown at the flagpole of the fort, despite being shot in the arm and the leg.

The 7th Cavalry had been scouting the wood endlessly for the last couple of days. Stalking the last of Cardona's forces. Firefights would break out from time to time but the rebels would quickly flee.

Not only was the cavalry stalking after Cardona but also Arenginian, Boer and Aclusian reserve soldiers had encircled the forest, effectively trapping Cardona into a canyon valley which he and his forces were trapped in.

It was only a matter of closing in to finally capture Cardona.

IV Corps had rejoined 3rd Army three weeks ago. All units had completed their driving courses for the Self Propelled Howitzers but only had a few companies each. The Army had been couped up aboard transports with Battle Fleet Two for a week, waiting for the clearance to begin the operation.

On the bridge of the flagship HMS Chaos, Fleet Admiral Chester Hansson received a telegram.
To: Fleet Admiral Hansson, Commander Battle Fleet One
From: Royal Navy Fleet Command
Subject: Order Change
CC: Commander, Al-Morvern Task Force Alpha

Hammerfall

End Message

With that single word, Admiral Hansson had the orders to launch the greatest attack in history. The largest amphibious operation ever. And one they had only rehearsed for two weeks. Regardless, he had his orders. "Helm, turn us to three three zero, flank speed. Relay the order to the transports. Send telegrams to the Morvern, Eakan, and Union commanders. Tell them that the Hammer has Fallen."

Twelve hours later, Battle Fleet One was 20 kilometers from the Asgeirrian coastline. Armor piercing shells were loaded into the guns and fired just before twilight. At this range, both the 10 inch and the 12 inch guns could hit their targets, which were the Asgeirrian coastal defenses. They would shell the coast until the transports reached the ten kilometer mark. The 12 battleships were firing four 385 kilogram shells each every minute. 48 shells a minute. The smaller 10 inch guns that armed the cruisers were firing a 226 kilogram shell every 30 seconds. Hundreds of shells were raining down on the enemy and would continue to rain for the next twenty hours, depriving the hostile gun crews of rest and crushing their defenses underneath high explosives and steel. The defenders could hear the guns firing and, seconds later, the impacts were heard and felt as far as twelve miles away. Thousands of shells would fall during the bombardment, destroying everything they struck. Everything out to four kilometers of the coastline would be completely leveled. When the army landed early morning after next, they would little, if any, real resistance. Previous amphibious operations had taught the Army to never expect an easy landing. Even the primitive Spirusian natives had taught them that much. 480,000 men would land with vehicles and artillery at five in the morning. High tide. Thousands would likely die in the operation but it would be well worth it.

Mild firing and explosions from afar could be heard. "God, I despise war..." Exclaimed Nikolai.

"I can't believe my father was part of one." Nikolai had changed mood rather quickly.

"When I inherit the throne I'll make sure to always use the pen rather than the sword." He said as he took Melissa's hand.

Melissa Kruger: Well if your talking about me, than your pretty daft to think a Boer would back away from a War! Although, that Kendi whose running the Social Democracy Party seems like a big peace lover, but he'd only gain power if he was elected, and elections aren't held until the Elected Official dies. Also, you realize that your currently asking a woman in a Uniform to support you on your quest for a end to war!

"I understand that Melissa. You want to serve your country I get it, I want to support mine too." Nikolai kneel down and still holding on to Melissa's hand.

"I want to aim for a future where there is no war, no unnecessary killing, no famine, no suffering. Where all nations can coexist. We shouldn't judge others by their color, or views. And I know I'll be able to keep those ideals for thew future OCC: NO he wont. But until that day comes, I want someone who will be at my side and support me in the good and the bad as much as I will them. And I've been meaning to ask you this for a time." Nikolai got out a small box and opened it to reveal a ring.

"Melissa would you marry me?" He asked to the shocked Boer girl.

Everyone in the deck was looking at the whole thing, sailors, guardsmen, and serve men and women alike.

(OOC: I was going to write something like "She jumps into his arms", but it felt too cheesy...)

Everyone in the deck began to cheer and clap as Melissa and Nikolai embraced. Nikolai quickly gave the Boer a kiss on the lips.

"URA!" cheered the sailors and others. The guardsmen simply clapped.

Oswyn got out of the command deck. "Alright what in the bloody hell is going on!" He asked from the platform overlooking the deck.

"Father... Meet my future queen!" Nikolai said as he hold Melissa by the waist. She had his white cap on her head and he had her green cap on his.

Oswyn simply stood there in silence for at least a minute.

"Your majesty... are you alright?" Asked Vladimir, the guard commander and personal king bodyguard.

Oswyn stumbled for a second, as if he had seen ghost. The guardsmen around him quickly hold him from falling.

"Father? Are you alright?" Nikolai said laughing a bit.

Oswyn got on his feet. "I'm fine... I'm okay..." He ran downstairs to see the couple. He was there as quick as a bullet, the guardsmen struggled to keep at his pace. Oswyn simply gave Nikolai a genuine smile and a pat on his shoulder. He then turned to Melissa, he took hold of her hand.

"I'm.... I'm happy for you two..." He again exchanged eyes with Nikolai.

Then he turned to the people watching the whole event.

"LET US CELEBRATE FOR THE NEW ROYAL COUPLE, AND FOR OUR BRETHREN WITH THE BOERS!" He said in a loud voice as the Arenginians cheered and sang the song of their people.

All it took was a single word, just one word with ten letters: Hammerfall, and the shelling of the Austrivanian countryside began, it wouldn't stop and would advance until the end of the campaign. The NCSU troops, now bolstered by new divisions from the homeland, was at 28,000 men strong, weak in the terms of the current powers, but good enough and professional. "Advance! Advance! Advance!" shouted all of the men as they shot, bayoneted, knifed, and slaughtered everyone except the civilians, which, after a capture, were given supplies and money. What of the rest? Used to raise morale, male soldiers were sacrificed, and any female soldiers were used as morale boosters if you catch my drift. Anyone on the coast destroyed as much naval guns as they could, and captured as many scientists and intellectuals of any kind, who were treated fairly. Some soldiers even tried to convince the poor Asgerrians by making them prosperous, promises of titles and land were told to them, and it wouldn't be long before hordes of poor Asgerrians flock to the NCSU homeland and colonies. It rained metal and brimstone that day...

In the meantime, a couple of families wanting to monopolize opium landed on southern Jutland and made an outpost there.

OOC: Striked areas are to be used in later posts.

Agent Heinrik slapped the folder of documents taken by him and his team during the Eisenwald Raid on the table of the main Command Center.

Adler, startled by the sudden noise, turned around

Agent Heinrik: Here are the documents you and Danvers asked for. We've also got a few others and plenty of Photo's of other documents

Heinrik slid over the small Slide Camera used by Agent Jundi, Jundi had already made of copy of the Original Film on the camera and stowed it.

The invasion was on schedule. Manticoran troops had landed on the Asgeirrian coast. 480,000 men, 6,400 armored cars, 16,000 tanks, 13,440 artillery pieces, 3,200 machine guns, and 1,600 trench guns were in battle, pushing the thin line of Asgeirrian defenders back. Thousands died, as expected, but the battle was short. Without additional infantry to support them, the coastal batteries were overrun. 3rd Army pushed on, beyond the range of Battle Fleet Two, looting and pillaging everything in their path. They stole food and livestock, burned whole villages and cities to the ground, and razed whatever they could not use. Like a swarm of locusts, they left a trail of destruction in their wake as they raced through Arevin.

The Traansval has not turned a blind eye to the War between you and Asgeirria.

While we have no plans to intervene in this war, we do have a proposition.

We will provide details maps and Intelligence, such as Troops Numbers, Strength of Fortifications, and Troop Deployments.
In exchange, the Manticorian Army would be required to limit its attack on Civilian Targets. The Burning of civilian towns and Farms would have to be stopped.
If the farms were being used to directly supply the Asgerrian Army, or if the Towns were being used as a Fort or Defensive Position then they would be considered Military Targets.

So, what is your response?

Sir, there is method to the madness. In order for a later assault against Austrivania to have the best chance of success, the Asgeirrian army MUST be drawn away. Therefore, we must make as much noise as possible and the most effective way to do that is to create a refugee and supply crisis that the Asgeirrian Army cannot ignore. Art of War, my dear friend. He shall march to OUR drum beat.

While we understand your actions, and will not make any official move to denounce or stop them, we find attacks on Civilians a bit unsettling.

We simply wish to provide the incentive of valuable Intelligence which had been gathered over the years, ever since we first met the Asgerrians.
You dont have to accept our proposition, but just remember that we could have a map of the Enemy on the desk of your nations leader by dinner time.

International Marriage on the Horizon

Prince Nikolai Oswyn and Melissa Kruger have announced their engagement while on a trip to Al-Molvern. This comes as a shock to much of the international community since Melissa is of Boer descent this means it would be Arengins first royal international marriage in more than 400 years. The details of the future wedding are still unknown but we can expect a good chunk of world leaders to be present for it.

After a few weeks of relative calmness
The Manticorian Alliance has began
Operations against the Asergerrians
This after the Asergerrians invaded and

Aclusian Iron Fleet, off the coast of Romi

With Trieze taken, and the Sylbanian armies in panic, the Aclusian Iron fleet slipped past the defenses that the sylbanians had set up on the coast of Fort Lombardy and were able to arrive on the coast of Romi, the Sylbanian capital. It was a dark cold night, the Massive warships, mainly the new Empire class Warship, and other smaller Battleships loaded their heavy guns and took aim unto the ports and the city, ready to obliterate them off the world of the living.

2 hours later, after the plan was set, the Ships of the Aclusian Iron fleet opened up their guns unleashing shell after shell unto the city, until smoke and the raging flames consumed those who somehow lived through it all. The fleet blockaded the city afterwards blocking all shipments of food or supplies from any other nation.

Battle for Fort Lombardy

The Aclusian heavy guns have been pounding away at the Forts defenses and the trench-line around it for a whole week, the Infantry were quickly rushed to the front of the trench and assembled into their formation, Bayonets prepped at the side ready to be fixed and the aids giving out rum rations to the men. 60,000 Aclusian Soldiers from the Warick division were to push forward taking the Sylbanian trench-line assisted by the 12,000 Norcourtian soldiers who would charge ahead, leading the Forlorn Hope, a heroic tactic, but not a smart one the Aclusian Generals thought.

In the second wave where the Aclusian soldiers will charge, Aclus has brought in a couple prototype machines, known as the Mk.1 Landships, or as the other nations call them, "tanks". 10 of these Prototypes are to assist the Entente soldiers in breaking through the Sylbanian trench lines and in taking the fort, all there was now was to wait for the Norcourtians to give the signal.

Battle of Fort Lombardy
6:32 PM

It was nightfall, and the Aclusian guns fell short. It was time. The men were scared, but not of death, but of pain. Fear struck in many, including Reeves, and the tough Sergeant Harker.
To reassure the troops, Harker stood up, and began to speak. "Listen here lads, this may be the last day of many of our lives, but if we die we die with honor. Now, across that wall...there are hundreds of bloody bastards, all Sylbanian, and we have been chosen as the first to fight, the Forlorn Hope they call us. Back home we're called heroes, true fighters for an Elixian cause they say. Remember what you are fighting for, and fight hard. Remember...a good soldier can get off 15 rounds a minute, with what we got." Harker paused for a moment, reciting his memory of his next to nothing life at home. Back in Norcourt he was just another young yet bold veteran, subject to Imperial Norcourt's leader. He remembered signing up for the Lord's Army, being put in the 36th Rifles, and all his friends that died during the Great Bay War, Walter, Albert, and Kennaghan.

Harker then came back to thought, and realized his current situation. "So whatever you boys, for god's sake, do the best you can. Godspeed...to all of you."
he said. He put his Pith Helmet on, and faced forward, "BATTALIONS! FIX BAYONETS!....ADVANCE!" a large body of soldiers fixed their sword bayonets, and made the ground tremble. They marched together, as one, with one man holding the banner of Norcourt, and one of the 36th Rifles. They marched...and marched...and marched, until their rifles were in range. FIRE! One of the cannoneers said, all at an instant, a body of flame revealed a large entry way into the fort, one which deafened the ears of many, including the defenders. But they had to get through the trenches first. It was time.

"BATTALIONS! PRESENT!" said Colonel Arthur, in which gestured a wave of sword, "FIRE!", in one command, all but the back ranks, fired a burst of shot in which was so strong you could hear and smell the explosion of black powder, a mile away. "CHAAAAAARGE!" The Colonel yelled, the large body of troops spread into a wave of spears, charging at each and every one of the Sylbanians, trying to get the high advantage of the giant walls.
The valiant Aclusian Landships went as well, slowly yet steadily. Some wondered how the Aclusians stayed in such hot pots of metal.

It was only the beginning.

Then fall in lads behind the drum
With colours blazing like the sun.
Along the road to come what may
Over the hills and far away.

Battle For Fort Lombardy

With some of the landfish tanks advancing ahead assisting the Nocourtians in the first wave, the sound of heavy cannon fire followed the by crack of thousands of rifles and the ratatat clicks of machine gun fire proved that the bombardment wasn't as effective as the Generals thought it would be, nonetheless the Aclusian troops stood at the ladders at the ready to fix bayonets for the big advance, hopefully the Norcourtians had taken the brunt of the enemies defensive might.

The officers and the troops were afraid of what was to come, many of the troops new recruits since the battle of Fort Trieze tok the lives of thousands of the original AEF, Lieutenant Thomas Beckham climbed 2 steps of the wooden ladder and looked above over no mans land, only to see some Norcourtians who had fallen from their advance, and the wet dirty ground consuming many corpses into them, some buried half way, a horrible sight to the common soldier, but to him, who had seen much worst in the carribean war, knew this was nothing to the horrors that were to come.

Beckham looked at his men and checked his watch, 5 minute until zero hour, he looked back at his troops and began to speak.

"Fix bayonets!" Beckham yelled out followed by the sound of the 15in bayonets unsheathing and the click of it attaching to the rifle.

"God be with ya boys, if you control yourself and focus on the task at hand, then God and the saints will watch over ya!" Beckham then tok a deep breath and checked his watch, it was time, he picked up his whistle and blew it.

The 60,000 Aclusian troops of the Warick division charged up the ladders behind the Landfish tanks, onward to do battle with the enemy.

'Through Shot and shell, unto hell, the boys charged on.
to run and gun the foe down until the battle is won
so many die, some more will too,
until we win this bloody war, which we all pray is soon'

Battle for Fort Lombardy

The South East Sector
Veice Line

Sylbania
The Traansval

Through shot and shell...

Artillery Sergeant: FIRE!!

BOOM

The combined Artillery Guns of the Entente roared to life, slinging hot metal death towards Fort Lombardy. The giant stone cubes that had been assembled around the Hill on which sat the "Fort" were taking blow after blow. The Lombardy Defenders had assembled Slag Heaps all across the battlefield, making it even harder for the Landfish of the Aclusians, and any other Armored Vehicles, to move.

Colonel Hyder looked out onto the battlefield through his Binoculars, he stood on the Battlements of Fort Trieze, the other Entente Officers of the Trieze Garrison stood with him, watching.

Hyder motioned for a Corporal to come to him

Colonel Hyder: Take this order to Sergeant Bunter

The Corporal saluted, and ran for Sergeant Bunters Barracks.

Once the Corporal had found Bunters, he handed him the folded piece of Officer Stationary.

Sergeant Bunters: Well i'l be damned.. MEN, WE'RE MOVING OUT

Bunters banged against the metal hull that sat next to him, the hull of a BAV-1 Tank. Around him, men began to climb into the Vehicles that made up the 25th and 16th Armored Squadrons, 50 Vehicles in total. Their Engines roared to life, a mixture of BAV-1 Tanks engines, BAC-4 Main Battle Car Engines, and BAC-5 Infantry Support's.

The BAV-1's were small tanks, valued for their small size, speed, maneuverability, and ease of Production. They were only armed with MG-81 Machine Guns, but each tank did have a built in AT-1 Tank Rifle to be used against small heavy fortifications and enemy Vehicles.

The BAC-4's were the main battle cars of the Armored Corp, they were large, nicely armored, had good speed, and had large wheels which gave it good Offroad and Battlefield Handling. They were equipped with a MG-81 Machine Gun, but also carried 2-3 Auxiliaries which would fire their Lee-London Carbine's out of Gun Ports.

The BAC-5's were open top Cars, with the same wheels of the BAC-4. The BAC-5 could hold 5 Auxiliaries that would fire their rifles, along with a QF-1 Pounder 37mm Pom Pom Gun, which fired small 1 Pound Explosive Shells.

The two Squadrons and their Armored Vehicles (25 BAC-4's, 10 BAC-5's, 15 BAV-1's) drove down the path from Trieze, and towards the heat of battle, at Lombardy.

Battle of Fort Lombardy
10:05 PM, October 14th, 1886

The Norcourtians had charged with their Forlorn Hope, with many showing bravery worthy of tales for derring-do. However, the Sylbanians had showed hard resistance, and firing several hard and heavy blows on the Entente's slow and heavy tanks. Reeves, Harker, and the rest of the men moved up, but the tanks slowed them down.

"Reeves! Those bloody tanks are as slow as a snail! If we don't move up, we're gonna get our asses handed to us!" Yelled out Private Cooper, "We have to advance." said Reeves, "Battalion! Reform! Rally over here!" he said.

Tens of men rallied into a large line with several layers of men. "Prepare rifle-grenades!" he yelled, "FIRE WHEN READY!" he yelled again.
From the hundreds, multiple discharges of rifle grenades soared through the air, each making their mark on the Sylbanians, physically, and mentally.
Scared they were. Several more volleys of grenades were fired, and after 6, the Norcourtians had charged again.

"Cooper, get the boys to put up some bloody Machine Guns on the walled corridors! We can fire into the courtyard with ease. Now go!" said Harker

"Aye sir! Send them to hell I will." replied Cooper.

The air smelled of powder, and brought deafening to many. Flares lit the sky, and blood flowed like rivers. Bodies took up the majority of the ground, with many falling off the walls to their death. After taking the walls, the men were able to take cover at last, and hold a choke point, giving them some of security.

Sergeant Bunters: CHARGE! PUT THE BLOODY LEVER TO THE FLOOR, FULL SPEED, CHARGE THE BASTARDS!

The swarm of 50 Armored Cars and Tanks flew out over the battle field, the Tanks keeping up a decently fast speed of 10 mph, while the Armored Cars zipped at a speed of 20-25 mph. Fast enough to catch up to the Norcourtian Advance, while the Landfish fired off their Guns at the enemy positions.

The gun on Sergeant Bunters tank roared to life, the BAV-1 is a Two Seat Tank, with the Sergeant driving the Tank, and his Corporal above him operating the Gun Turrent.

Off to the left, a group of Auxiliaries had left their BAC-4's and BAC-5's and formed a small Regiment of about 500 Men, and charged Fort Lombardy with bayonets fixed to their Lee-London Carbines

All around, the shells from Fort Trieze send dirt and smoke everywhere, covering the cars and tanks in a film of filth. Blood ran in rivers down the slopes of the Hill upon which sat the fortification which the Sylbanians had hastily built in order to defend the land which that had "Liberated"

Battle For Fort Lombardy
October 15, 1886, 4:30 AM

The guns of the fascist Sylbanians tore right through the ranks of the Aclusian infantry that had advanced passed the cover of the landfish, nonetheless they kept on their charge towards the enemy trench line to meet up with the Norcourtians who were held up by machine guns fire. The enemies fire increased every step to their positions, the Maxim guns were much more deadly than any machine gun ever used before, thousands had fallen since the assault started and the Aclusian junior officers knew they needed to hold and wait for the landfish to link up with them if they were to advance.
Image

With orders from the upper brass to keep advancing, the Officers had no choice but to keep up the charge towards the carnage that awaited them, but one officer, knew better. Lieutenant Thomas Beckham yelled out to his men to hold and take cover to await the landfish tanks. Once the Landfish had linked up with them, they advanced taking much less casualties than they would of if they had charged with the others. The troops had made it to the trench line and begun their hand to hand combat with the enemy.

Battle of Fort Lombardy
5:21 AM

Colonel William Gaulsby believed an officer must distinguish himself along with the common soldier. Officers were considered Gentlemen back in Norcourt. The officers were considered separated in 2 different sections, Bastard Officers, the ones who have earned their rank, and through battle or through the ranks and fought for their lives and men. And then there's the bloody Murderin' Officers, those who kill for the thrill and rank, and some of them probably haven't even fought before. Gaulsby was the former, an honorable man, one that doesn't flog nor kill for enjoyment.
"Get the bloody Chariots up here!" He yelled. The new CAC-1 Chariots, have finally arrived. These were medium-armored cars, created under the Lord's special request. 10 of them were sent here, while 15 were sent to other areas around Sylbania.
They moved slowly up the hill, you could see the spotter's peeking through the visor holes, pointing for where the gunner to fire upon. There were some with Maxims, and some with light cannons.
Harker was with Reeves, taking cover behind an allied Tank, when the rest of the men finally reached the first trench, and leaped faithfully into the bottom of such trench. It was time for hand to hand combat, such words could not describe the horrors and the gore within such fighting.
The Norcourtian soldiers had 18 Inch bayonets, almost acting as mini swords, they were to impale, and intimidate the enemy.

When Evil stalks upon the land, I'll neither hold nor stay me hand,
But fight to win a better day, Over the hills and far away.
