Introduction
This is the Canon for the Confederacy of Allied States. All events that occur in the Canon, shall be surprisingly enough, canon to the region. The canon is moderated by the Ministry of Canon, which consists of: http://www.nationstates.net/page=dispatch/id=623520
NOTE: All available land for new players is colored either white(NOT counting Antarctica) or gray. But we do caution, white colored land maybe be claimed by an existing country and may no longer be available. And do note possible apps who are still in canon/recently accepted before you applied, they could have land you want before the map has initially updated.
There are 6 main rules in the Canon
- Follow the Ministry of Canon
- Do not meta-game
- Do not god-mod
- Follow the application procedure
- Remain polite when asking and criticizing
- Everybody has the chance to start out with a territory of 40-100 claims, the number will ultimately be decided by the quality of their RP Entrance Sample AND taking into account their location/geography.
Here's another rule: No information about an aspect of a country can be used in the canon without it being accepted as an application or accepted as a factbook submission.

Ͼ is the symbol for the Corona, which is what all currencies' values are measured in and basically, wherever you would normally put in $, you instead put in Ͼ. The complicated reason is because the United States doesn't exist in the canon, thus its dollar cannot exist.
All currencies have a corona code.
For example, the hirenya, the currency of Rodrenon has a corona code of LRC. Thus, hirenya in its shorthand is LRC. One could say it cost the nation 10,000 hirenyas, one could also say it cost the nation 10,000 LRC, and it means the same thing.
When filling in for what currency the country uses, understand that you don't put in your corona code, cuz I will assign it after the application process is finished. At the moment, no currency will be assigned a value in comparison to the corona. Also, nobody can choose the corona because the corona is just a hypothetical currency used in measuring the values of all other currencies.
The currency exchange rate will be established, but not at the moment.
Political System Type
The classification of political systems in the canon are organized by the number of people who control the majority of power marked by numbers, and how that/those people legitimately gain power marked by letters. The resulting combination is the political system you've classified your political system, and it must be the combination. For example, PS-1 means a single person holds the majority of the power, like in a monarchy or a dictatorship, while PS-A means that they will come to power through hereditary succession, so the combination PS-1A will be a hereditary monarchy. Also, the PS stands for Political System.

Sovereingty Structure
The Sovereignty structure is basically the structure of how sovereignty and power are organized between the central government and the component governments, like states and provinces.
SS-1: Unitary State (Central Government holds all the power, any power that component governments have are devolved to them by the Central Government)
SS-2: Federation (There are powers unique to the Central and there are powers unique to the Component governments, but the Component Government cannot have it's power be removed through a simple Central Government procedure. An example would be the United States.)
SS-3: Confederacy (Component Governments hold the power and the Central Government only has power if the Component Governments agree on it. Examples would be the Iroquois, Confederate States of America)
SS-4: Decentralized State (There is no central government, but there is still a social structure that binds the country and culture together)
Economic System Type
The classification of economic systems will be organized by what type of entities own the majority of the factors of production. Specifically, they are divided between systems of Capitalism, Socialism, Feudalism, and Hunter-Gatherer.
ES-1: General Capitalism (Private Ownership)
ES-1A: Laissez-Faire Capitalism (Classical Economics, United States before Depression)
ES-1B: Regulatory Capitalism (United States now)
ES-1C: Welfare Capitalism (Nordic Model, Western Europe, Canada, New Zealand, and most Western countries)
ES-1C: State-Sponsored Capitalism (East Asian Model, the Government invests money into certain industries and corporations, instead of outright ownership)
ES-1D: Dirigisme (French Dirigisme, Government licenses monopolies and directs what companies should do)
ES-2: General Socialism (Social Ownership)
ES-2A: Employee Ownership (no pure real life examples in countries)
ES-2B: Consumer Ownership (no pure real life examples in countries)
ES-2C: Usership (exclusive ownership is rejected for setting laws on who and how products can be used, isnpired by pre-Private Ownership societies)
ES-3: Feudalism (Landownership)
ES-4: Hunter-Gatherers (pretty self-explanatory)
Other Categories in the Application
Budgets should be created by listing all of the departments in the government, all the major projects that will require a large part of the government's budget, as well as the percentage of the government budget being spent on it. An example of a part of the entry could be the following:
...The Ministry of Economic Affairs - 5%, the Principal Intelligence Bureau - 10%...
Make sure all the entries have their percentages equaling 100%. Also, understand that the budget is not spending on the GDP, but rather from the money your government gains through taxes, tariffs, and other various methods.
Tariffs are taxes placed on imports. They are used to raise money for the government, encourage domestic markets, and use as a weapon in diplomacy. It's a good idea to put tariffs on those products that your country exports a lot of.
Birth Rate and Death Rate
Wow, this is a happy subject. The birth rate is measured in the Canon in how many births per 1,000 people in a given year. For example, Russia had a birth rate of 11.87 (2014) or 11.87 births/1,000 in the year of 2014. The current canon year is 2018, so you'd be calculating for the year 2017. I repeat you are calculating for the year 2017.
The death rate is the same thing, but y'kno........death. For example, Russia had a death rate of 13.83/1,000 in the year of 2014.

Suicide Rate
Whoah, um, I'll just get this explained. The suicide rate is measured by per 100,000 in a given year. For example, Japan, like other East Asian countries, has one of the highest suicide rates in the world. Japan's suicide rate is 18.5 or 18.5/100,000 in the year 2012. South Korea's suicide rate, the second highest in the world, is 28.9 or 28.9/100,000 in the year 2012.

Import Quota is a legal limit to the amount an individual or company can purchase that our imported goods. Just like tariffs, import quotas are put in to encourage domestic markets and can be used as a weapon in diplomacy. An example of an import quota is as follows.
...An individual person cannot purchase more than 2 imported cars per year...
...A corporation cannot purchase more than Ͼ500,000 worth of imported car parts per year...
...A corporation cannot purchase more than Ͼ200,000 worth of imported oil per year...
This would be a good set of import quotas established by a country who exports a lot in cars and oil. A good example of a tariff for most countries to have is the following:
...A corporation or individual cannot purchase more than Ͼ500,000 worth of imported goods with a domestic market equivalent...
See how this example basically covers one of the main reasons why a country would have tariffs - to promote domestic businesses. If your country exports a lot of dairy products, try putting tariffs on importing dairy products, or else people might want to buy more imported goods, which completely undermines your own domestic businesses. It would be the people of a country buying more of what the country produces and exports from other countries than their own, which can c-c-c-c-cash for your government and your domestic market.

[b]History:[/b] The United Duchies of North Africa was established in 1807 after a successful rebellion from France. It began with the principles of freedom and liberty, however, under the more socially-conservative wealthy class that defeated their colonial power, pushed those ideas to the side. Still, this didn't stop many revolutions that plagued the region, until finally, the United Duchies became under the control of the African Populist Party. This party eventually established a constitution, which ended the age of revolutions. During the 1900s, the United Duchies experienced a rise in power, as they moved around in Africa and capitalized on their natural resources. Their European partners, even France, recognized the United Duchies as their equal in Africa. This didn't last, though, as the political climate once again shifted. After a long period of economic depression, religious-driven parties started gaining seats in the Parliament. Soon, Catholic Christians, African Orthodox Christians, and Sunni Muslims found each other at the end of the barrel of a gun. A massive civil war exploded and lasted for 10 years. After the civil war ended, the power that took control was the African Orthodox Christians, who in order, to stop the cycle of violence, agreed to establish a government of consociation with the Sunni Muslims. In doing so, both of these large factions kept the Catholics from coming into the political majority. Eventually, in the 90s, the religious tension began to slacken as new movements to separate religion from state became prevalent. Nowadays, the United Duchies of North Africa is a vibrant, culturally diverse region, but even still, the debate of the role of religion in the state is a dominant theme in culture and politics.

Please make one application per one company…ideally, having at least three countries listed would be good, while suggested having less than nine listed, would also be good. More or less than what is suggested, will make it difficult for those to use companies as things you can use in foreign trade.
Companies, when looking at international trade between governments, can be very lucrative in the sense that they governments can contract certain companies to perform a task on behalf of the government, so the government doesn't have to spend money on performing those tasks. This is known as privatization, which, a bad side to privatization can include companies, sacrificing the health of their consumers for the bottom line, and make those companies much more susceptible to foreign markets. Say for example, Melantri Oil Co., which deals with, you guessed it, oil, is contracted by the country of Texastan to produce oil, provide residency for their long-term workers, and provide rules and regulations that a Texastani town cannot turn down, based on the account that what is a good for a single Texastani town could jeopardize the oil industry within all of Texastan. The bad side to privatization is of course, Melantri Oil Co., if it's involved in an economy with Povertyland, Melantri Oil Co., may provide dangerous conditions for their workers, because Povertyland buys things for cheap, and the Melantri Oil Co. will sacrifice the health of their Texastani workers, so to continue increasing the bottom line.
So there's good and bad. Of course, what you will choose in this area of applications, will be reflected in your economic system type. Obviously, the higher privatization, the less you are in regulation, social programs, and what not.
You are also suggested to provide an RL basis, like an RL equivalence to the company.
The default setting is that you will have a stock exchange, and it will be called the Stock Exchange of whatever your country name is (ex. Stock Exchange of East California). If you wish to change that, you may fill that in the Company Application.
As you could have guessed, companies are indexed to a stock exchange, and the price of one stock can be used as a way to measure the value of a company.
Your company application will be given both a stock exchange share price, while a net worth will be provided.

Question: What if I don't want to roleplay as a country? But as something else?
Answer: We have something called a "rebel system". You can fill out an above application and found a rebel faction in an existing territory to take it over and/or negotiate its independence. And don't worry, the rebel group isn't "super easy" to defeat. You have a legit chance of fighting and winning. Just depends on your ability. But the canon mods shall also ensure that your opponent doesn't do anything "unfair" or "godmod" to beat you. The system is made to make up for the limited territory available at times and give you a fighting chance as a rebel faction.

Answer: Well you contact the player out of character to schedule a war if you cannot come to an agreement on territory via negotiations or just wanna have a war for whatever reason. Once you both agree on a real life time to start this war, one of you are then to make a thread. Though you should make the mods aware of this war, so they can regulate and ensure everyone in this war rp is doing everything correctly. Then you are to make 2 threads, a signup thread where people give their military factbook information and the like, to ensure they have the right military gear for a conflict and who will participate in a war. As well as aren't god-modding or using the wrong tech. Then you make an in character thread to roleplay the actual war. The war schedule is flexible. If you need time to learn, make alliances, busy with life, etc, the Canon Ministry will allow for a war schedule that can accommodate this.
Question: What do I do to conquer non-player(AKA blank) territory?
Answer: Post an announcement on the CAS News Network or just make your own separate thread where others can post their reaction. Whichever option you wish. If more than one nation want to claim the same blank territory they can negotiate to divide it, or have a war over it. You can only take 12 spaces a week, though the circumstance may change depending on the future size of the global map. And, of course, the way war works is explained in the above category. And you must have your military factbooks approved by the canon staff before attempting any sort of military moves.
Question: How does economic measurement work?
Answer: You are assigned a GDP by the Canon moderators in charge of that field. It is based on things like trade deals, economic model, budget, wars you fought in, land and resources, etc. Pretty much anything a real world economy would be affected by. [/quote]

What if I wanna quit the Canon?
Then telegram someone in the Canon staff and we will revert your former nation to non-player space on the map. If you quit for understandable reasons, such as being in a position where you can no longer play,then you are fine. If you quit simply because events aren't going your way, you will be allowed to quit of course. But you will have to wait a month to return to canon.
