So heres a blatant and brazen fleet to interact with.

You'll get a response, don't worry. Most of my fleets are sticking to my coast, and probably see you but won't interact, but you're probably running up behind the 3rd Fleet as they move closer to Zhangua in the Gulf, so they'll wonder what you're up to.

Well, I have at least 28 cruise missiles and a combination of 32 torpedoes and anti ship missiles parked in that area. I could send in a cruise missile sub with 154 cruise missile if I really wanted to. Basically my sub is a significant threat to the opposing side of which ever side I will eventually choose.

Plus the Exilibasians just made a lot of noise in that area, so now we're really aware of the magnitude of the situation.

Well, most subs are significant threats, but what I mean is you or FAP aren't going to attack with a single unsupported sub especially when the only way out would be through a choke point I can literally clog with my ships and then sweep in from there, so I understand they're just there for stealth, and that's not an issue. I can't find them, and honestly my people probably assume someone is out there just because the assumption is safe to make without wasting time and resources to hunt what isn't causing a problem.

Two things:
1. Is someone going to put together a battle map?
2. I'll finish my ORBAT soon, so I can send stuff in.

I'll make another Orbat. I'm gonna park a carrier task force off the other coast, mostly to keep an eye on Vanq

I can create a battle map after I finish my ORBAT, probably not until the weekend though.

Urran wrote:Well, right now it's essentially acting like a big glider. It's endurance would be much less if it were not saving as much energy as possible and if the wind wasn't with it. It would be somewhere around 2-5 days depending on different factors.

It's using a SATCOM system. The US Navy is experimenting with a submarine launched drone that can fly hundreds of miles in front of the sub. It's also experimenting with new torpedo propulsion systems that could allow them to hit a target from 200 miles away or more thanks to the drone. That's where I got the idea from.

Fair enough on the glider thing. That's basically what an albatross would be doing anyways (not that most radar operators are also ornithologists, but Nexus would notice if he had the drone on radar and it did something totally non-birdlike). I'm guessing that the drone (and most other drones) could have vastly higher endurance if they took more advantage of thermals and fought the wind less. Most drones just value staying over the mission area more than that.

Okay. I'm not looking for your drone, but if I was, I would hunt it with ELINT, because that SATCOM will be noisy. I do have a PAQ-10-3-O (the SIGINT variant of the third generation Pack Avengers) patrolling the Zhangua-URA border, but as long as your drone stays out to sea, I probably won't notice it. We're more concerned with watching the war than watching you watch the war.

200 miles is very far (furthest I've heard of is 75 nmi from a modified DM2A4), but I think it's totally achievable if you just scale up the torpedo. And, of course, if you have an article I haven't seen, then feel free to present better data than my data. Either way, I think 200 nmi range can be done, but the torpedo will be very big, so watch out for systems like the MU90 Hard Kill anti-torpedo defense.

1. I need a response in RC.
2. Do you think an airship is any good to send in this invasion?

Thanks Cong. I've always loved the albatross. I love animals in general but tend to dislike birds, the albatross and some New Zealand species and most owls being the exceptions.

I figured that a bird like UAV would go unnoticed by most. Gliding saves energy, but it can also move under its own power against the wind.

I might add another fleet subgroup to my ORBAT, as naval action seems to have growing importance here...

Also, unrelated, I have just come up with an idea for a tilt rotor or VTOL business jet or utility aircraft (like a Dassault falcon or perhaps an AS365 Dauphin). Probably naming it Albatross.

1. That's a thing for TGs, the PW OOC, or the PW Skype, not this thread.
2. Depends what you're doing with it. The MAAPS are officially designed to lift cargo between large airbases/ports and forward bases. Unofficially, they're supposed to intimidate small governments into allowing Congreveopia's military to operate in their nations. In the former role, the MAAPS could work well if they were needed. In the latter role, I don't think any of the governments involved are small enough to be intimidated by one airship. Then again, you've built your airships differently from mine. They might serve well in other roles.

Well, it'll show up on SIGINT as obviously artificial because of the SATCOM traffic, but if it was well enough programmed it could run a recon mission autonomously under radio silence and upload the data when it had cleared enemy territory.

Electronics happen to be the FAP's specialty. While Congrevopia's big on mechatronics and other robotics-related tech, the Ports focus more on computers and sensors like Radar and Sonar. As a result, we're very skilled in the realm of SIGINT and information warfare. We're also big on biomedical technology, like prosthetic limbs and surgical tools.

I think we might both benefit from a little cooperation in this sector~

Also, my idea would have been for a Dassault Falcon-type jet with a layout similar to that of a Harrier (drooping wings, Pegasus engine and nozzle placement, etc). VIP transport and Utility would be it's main roles. Perhaps it could serve as a good platform for AEW&C on STOVL carriers...

FAP, Congreviopia takes your "specialty" and turns it into simply "Bare necessities". He's on a whole other level.

U-1245's mix gives it 16 MIRVed SLBMs, 134 Tomahawks, 7 ESSM SLSAMs, and up to 60 torpedoes or Harpoon missiles. Just one of these will seriously f*ck your sh*t up. And I have several in the area.

He's also Atlas.

Doesn't mean we can't mutually benefit from cooperation, right? :p

Meanwhile, I have this medium-sized nuke-powered attack sub from 1991 which is mostly used for strike missions, hence I mounted a dozen Tomahawks in it...

No, because I never said what your sub could or couldn't do, and wasn't making a contest out of it.

If you're doing it right, literally zero people should notice those subs in the region. The only time another nation would see your sub is if you fucked up.

And no one would really care about your sub sitting there collecting information in international waters if they did happen upon it, since it's doing nothing wrong. If they found it, they'd watch it passively and make sure it didn't act up, but otherwise, there's much more overt dangers, like a 40-odd ship fleet moving into the Gulf quickly and aggressively.

If anything, you should take the statement as a compliment to you and everyone else, since it means you're doing the logical thing.

It's fine.

Just think of it this way: It doesn't matter how many missiles you have and how much damage you can do, one sub on reconnaissance doesn't use its weapons unless it's pinned to a rock and being fired upon. And no one would be firing upon you unless you were found. And you wouldn't be found unless someone was looking for you. And nobody would be looking for you if you were sitting there quietly listening, and at that point, if someone happened to stumble on you, they'd make sure you weren't one of their own, and then they'd watch you to see what you were doing.

Sub warfare is mostly watching and reconnaissance.

Sub warfare is mostly watching and reconnaissance.

U-1245 isn't there so much for reconnaissance as providing fire support in case of war. The ELINT and Recon is all done by aircraft (like the P-8 and A-3) and attack subs (like the Virginia class). An SSBN like U-1245 isn't tasked with those missions often. U-1245's main mission on this sortie is to test out TRIDENT (working more or less as it's supposed to, but the operators aren't noticing) and picket the general area while the attack subs carry out the real dirty work.
