10:00pm, Brooks County Airport, Lake Jaketon, Alaska. The day before the inauguration

The plan carrying the Secretary of State, Jacob WIllis, touches down on the freshly cleared runway, and is met by two black Suburbans with diplomatic plates. Markus Oliver, the UCS Ambassador to Cascadia steps out of one to greet Jacob, who appointed him to the post while he held the presidency. "Nice to see you again, Markus. While my brother taking power, I'm betting I'll be up here to see you more often."
"I think everyone in the embassy would like that. The other SUV is for you, that sheriff's deputy over there will escort you to your brother's estate. I'll see you at the reception tomorrow." They shake hands and climb into their respective SUV's as the plane is put into a hanger.
As the Suburban drives through the streets of the Jaketon suburbs, Jacob is struck by the areas beauty. The lights of the Buildings downtown, The mountains off in each direction forming the Brooks Valley that the Metro area is nestled in, the artificial lakes, now frozen over. As they drive down the Brooks Highway, a four laned state owned highway, into the city of Bartoss, Alaska, the hillside estates come into view. The rich and powerful of Cascadia all live out here, including his brother. They turn onto Huckabee Ave. While this county owned road is a commanding eight lane avenue in the Jaketon city limits feature sites such as the Cascadian Supreme Court and the Alaska State University at Jaketon, out here its a 2 laned, tree lined road, leading into the hills. After passing the last city-owned cut off, they reach a Sheriff-run checkpoint, which they are waved through. A mile down the road, the vehicles take a right through a large gate, entering the courtyard of the Jaketon Willis Estate. The sheriff's deputy then leaves and returns to the city, while the Cascadian Secret Service escort Jacob in. "Colin!" he calls out walking through the front door, as his brother walks out from the kitchen, followed by his wife, Amanda, to embrace Jacob.
"It's 'bout time you came out for a visit Jake! Where the kids?"
"Karly's bringing them up with the President(Said very sarcastically) tomorrow morning. They wanted one more trip on Christian Air One. But its getting harder to tell which one of us they mean when they say "President." They laugh at the fact that each of the Willis brothers, as well as both of their parents, have now held the title of President.
They walk out onto the back patio, over looking the city, "Now I thought you were going to get out of politics after that whole Blackstone event."
"Well, me and Karly both hate politics by now. But, with Geoff being nominated, you know I couldn't walk away. Not with all three of us in power."
"Oh we knew it. Mom called it when his name was mentioned on the news the first time."
"Is she here?"
"Upstairs sleeping"
"You know I'd prefer her back in Texas. Texas Medical Center is still one of the best in the world. And, you know it's not me distrusting the hospitals here. I'd just like for her to be closer to home, you know?"
"Believe me, I tried to tell her. But you know how stubborn she is. Think you could convince her to fly back with you?"
"When I tell her that her grandson wants her back into to see him graduate from college, and Haley from high school, I think she'll convince herself. The kids still up?"
"McKinsey is already asleep, but the boys are up."
"Good. I bet they miss their favorite uncle. Night Colin"

Chancellor Daniel Arrives

Postby Notre Roi » Fri Feb 05, 2016 12:23 pm

Chancellor Daniel looked out the window of his quarters on Nuage-1, his Private 32-1 aircraft, observing the landscape of The Cascadian State, and its landscape. He quietly chuckled at the snowy landscape, wondering if it would compare to the winters of Notre Roi, especially that of Genese City, Notre Roi's capital. Daniel had become so accustomed to the 7 degree temperature atop the high mountainous capital city that this 15 degree winter would be a walk in the park.

Nuage One will now begin it's landing said the voice over the intercom. Daniel sad back down in his leather chair and buckled himself in, with a video from the nose of the plane popping up on the flat screen in front of him. He made sure his ceremonial sword wan in place and Notre-Roi flag bowtie straight as he waited for touchdown.

As Chancellor Daniel exited the aircraft, he was met with a small crowd of Roigalien-ethnic people cheering for him. He then entered his black limousine, driving to the Museum of Modern Art, where he was met at the door by two security officers, who refused to let him in as he was carrying a "weapon" (despite the fact that the sword had been dulled and the blade made of gold and silver, which would break itself before doing damage to anything, being ceremonial of course).

A Secret Service agent noticing the encounter, interjected, "Deputies, I think a Chancellor is qualified to carry a weapon." He gave then an irritated look and shifted his attention to the chancellor. "We're all very pleased to that decided to come Chancellor. Please don't let some ill informed security ruin this lovely night (although it was only 5pm, Alaska winters consist of unnecessarily short days). Please come in, the reception desk will show you to your table" He then returned his attention to the deputies. "You know, I'd don't care what agreement Sheriff Garner made, you will not be harassing the foreign delegations. You two are on traffic direction duty. Green Garage, Kotzebue entrance. Now!"

The state plane carrying the Prime Minister of Byzanthia taxied down the runway towards the gates. Charles looked out the window, and stared at the seemingly bleak landscape of the country. It sure is cold He thought to himself. Luckily, he brought a heavy coat for the occasion. "Your Excellency, we have arrived at the gates. It us time for us to disembark". The guard stood at attention, and in full military dress. "Thank you. I do believe that we should get going". And with that, the Prime Minister put on his coat and walked off the plane, along with his guard. No Casadian soldiers to greet me...hm Charles thought. But he already knew that today was a big day for them. And so, he got into his limousine and sped off to the ceremony, along with his guards.

Christian Air One was making its descent to Jaketon International Airport in Palmont, as the new President of the UCS gazed out the window of the majestic scenery of the Brooks Mountain Range, just South of the metro area. His wife in the seat next to him was napping, as well as his brothers wife and children, as his own young children played about the cabin. A Secret Service agent stuck her head into the president's quarters, "We'll be landing soon sir, time to buckle up"
After a soft touchdown, the large 787 taxied over to the executive zone of the airport and was met by UCS and Cascadian State Secret Service Personnel Escorting two limos from the UCS Embassy. Jacob Willis Climbed out of one while the ambassador climbed out of the other to greet the First Family, as the Willis' Family is always referred to in the UCS, regardless of who holds the presidency. At the Museum, the UCS delegation was escorted in past all of the media standing outside to get pictures of the delegations as they arrived. Geoffrey stopped to answer a few questions before going inside, saying that, while him and his brother being president in both countries will help bring Cascadia and the UCS together, it will not skew decisions in their favor, when it would be at cost to either country. Inside, the UCS delegation was seated at table one, only twenty feet from the stage that Colin will be sworn in on and give his inaugural address from following the dinner.

Chancellor Daniel decided to take a walk around the exhibits while waiting for other leaders, when a painting caught his eye in the "1500's" section. This faded painting was of a battle between two great armies beside a frozen river and forest, with four great mountains in the background. It showed in the center a man with long red hair, no armour but a shield, and a poleaxe raised above to the sun. "No" whispered Daniel. "It can't be".

He ran over to the painting and carefully examined it. He then looked at the history of it. The painting had been recovered from a sunken ship in the late 1500's, and the title of the painting left to a mere "T_e B__tl_ O_ S_ut_ _e_ese", but Daniel knew what it was immediately. This was a painting of The Battle of South Genese, the final battle of the Notre Roi revolution. After this battle, all accounts of the previous history were burned accidentally along with guns and ammunition by revolutionary attack. Due to this, all history of the revolution and times before it had been lost, and the stories of this battle told by legend only.

"This painting could be the key to finally discovering Notre Roi's history!" he said to himself, eyes fixed upon the painting.

Consul Dirk Ravenstein of Luxland, city-state of Cesopium arrives in the cold land of Cascadia. Landing down on the airstrip, accompanied by two unmarked bodyguards, whom wear radio head-sets with wires coming from their ears along with the standard sunglasses to conceal their facial features. They were not greeted by the local With their suits they stepped off the plane after the Chancellor whom piled into a rented vehicle to not seem out of place on the public roadway.

Bringing with them thick winter coats to help bare the weather which the people of Luxland were not accustomed to. The rental vehicle drove down the road to Museum of Modern Art, the two bodyguards in the front with the Chancellor sitting in the back whom had bought a local newspaper, looking over it rather intently.

Arriving at the Museum of Modern Art, The chancellor and his guards climbed out, greeted by media which the Chancellor would say "We are here to strengthen the bond between both Cesopium and The Cascadian State". Heading inside the building to the gallery room, making it inside, he would be sat at Table Two, his guards were swayed away by a hand motion, standing together nearby the entrance calmly observing the event.

"Yes I was, in twenty thirty... eight, if I remember right. Naval recovery team found it off the coast of Vancouver Island."
"Fascinating it survived that. Oh where are my manners," McGovern said reach out his hand to the Chancellor, "Trevor McGovern, President of Cascadia, for the next hour and half anyways"

He began to speak: "This painting is Roigalien. The title is 'The Battle of South Genese', the final battle of Notre Roi's revolution, that overthrew the monarchy and established our current government. Those four mountains are the Four Peaks that surround Genese City, the river is Rivière Liberté, and the forest is the South Genese Forest. The soldiers with the red and black shields are the Maquereauns, who fought against the rebellion for the king, and the soldiers with the blue and yellow shields are the Notres, who fought for the rebellion. Mr. And Mrs. McGovern stared, before one of them began to speak...

So far as our scientists have figured, that's when the ship sank. Whatever caused it to sink took the registration number with it, so we have no way to know who was in possession of it. It must've been plundered by in the fifteen hundreds.

"But there's an even bigger mystery than that. Do you see the way the river shines, almost like a faded mirror? That type of paint wasn't invented until 1887, meaning that the artist had a record of the battle so that he could paint it almost 400 years later...." he said, before pausing for half a minute.

We may have found the last record of Notre Roi's history!" He turned to Mrs. McGovern: "Madam McGovern, do you know where the wreckage is now?"

Chancellor Daniel shakes Colin's hand and begins to talk: "Between 1200 and 1600, Notre Roi revolted against a state called Maquereau, and during the final battle of the war, accidentally destroyed the historical records of the nation's history. We thought that any account of the revolution and times before it had been lost, leaving us to speculation and mystery, until now. This is a painting of The Battle of South Genese, painted in the late 1800s by a non-Roigalien artist who possessed a record of the battle. This means that that person's record is the only account left of pre-Roigalien history."

(OOC: Nice. TG about it after this RP?)

"Yeah, it's been there ever since the UCS NTSB finished investigating it."
"Chancellor, why don't you stay in town tonight and we can go look into it tomorrow. There's a guest house at the Willis Estate if you need somewhere to stay"

This is a painting of The Battle of South Genese, painted in the late 1800s by a non-Roigalien artist who possessed a record of the battle. This means that that person's record is the only account left of pre-Roigalien history."

"Thank you, Monsieur le Président Willis, I will stay, but there's no need for the guest house, Nuage One is equipped with sleeping facilities." Daniel said, as he could not remember how to say Mr. President in English. The Chancellor looked at his watch: "The ceremony begins in a half hour; I should go find my seat." he said, bowing, and heading to the gallery room, sitting at table three.

"Of course, but what kind of host would I be if I didn't offer. We will meet you at the airport tomorrow." Willis and McGovern exchanged a word before going to their seats. 30 minutes until the inauguration and dinner was starting to be served.
"I was hoping there would be a few more delegations here," Willis said to his wife while glancing at his watch, "There's a little more time though, we'll see who else shows up"

"You ready Colin?" His brothers asked back at table one. "In just a few minutes you'll be the last of the Willis boys to be named the President of a country."
"Y'all leave him alone!" Jacob's wife Karly interjected, "We're all very proud of you Colin. It's not every day you get to see your brother-in-law inaugurated as the president of a nation. But apparently when it does happen, it happens twice in one month." The table erupted in laughter.

Arnkjell Bruhn, the Wolfussian Minister of Culture, walked down the ramp of the Wolfussian diplomatic aircraft. The cold of his homeland, along with the standard issue military greatcoat he wore assured that he did not suffer too much from the cold of the Cascadian weather. Eiril Norgard, the Overseer of Art, soon joined him at the bottom of the ramp, followed immediately by a few soldiers carrying a cylinder.

The Minister sighed, saying, "How many times must I tell you, the High Party wants all that old stuff destroyed."
Eiril looked at him like he was insane, and then replied with "Have they got you too, Arnkjell? This is our culture, and I won't have it burned in one of those rallies. Besides, we are presenting it to our generous hosts, so it won't be really in our possession, will it? Your supposed to be our Minister of culture dammit."

The Minister of Culture glanced quickly at the airplane, and back to the Overseer. He speaks, and his voice is somewhat filled with amusement.
"You are truly one of the last fearless people in our nation, aren't you?" He takes another breath, and his voice loses it's humour. "I can only personally take your name off the purge list so many times, Eiril. One sunny day, they're going to come for you."

The Overseer nodded, paying no attention to his last comment. The Wolfussian delegacy loaded into armoured cars carried on the plane, and drove to the Museum of Modern Art. Once the cars stopped, the guards exited and starred at the crowds of people gathered to see the diplomats, their fully black uniforms and expressionless masks slightly unsettling for many.

The Minister and the Overseer then left the car, with the Overseer now personally carrying the old painting. They approached security, and politely followed all orders given.

Consul Frederick von Braun looked out the window of his executive jet upon the beautiful Alaskan scenery below. The Brusian war hero was very much a soldier at heart, and despite his political position he had little love for the politicking which accompanied it. Normally Wilhelm Tetzel, the more diplomatic and political of the two Brusian Consuls, would attend political events such as the upcoming presidential inauguration, but as he was currently indisposed von Braun reluctantly agreed to attend in his stead. Much as he dreaded the thought of attending another political function, the aging former officer couldn't help but be taken aback by the majesty of the landscape below. If nothing else, at least attending the inauguration allowed him to take in the incredible view.

Once the jet had landed and von Braun had disembarked, he quickly made his way to the armored limousine which had been flown in earlier from Brusia on a cargo plane. Von Braun detested the cold, it excelled in bringing out the worst in his old war wounds and aging joints, and in this instance served to make him just a little more cranky. When he made it into the limousine he instructed the driver to take his time in getting to the Museum. Ostensibly, this was to reduce the probability of crashing on the dangerous Alaskan roadway, but in reality was because von Braun wanted to cut down on the time he'd have to spend chatting with the various politicians attending the inauguration to an absolute minimum.

The Brusian limousine pulled up to the Museum around a half-hour before the inauguration was scheduled to start, and von Braun looked through his tinted window at the line of people and reporters waiting near the entrance, no doubt hoping to get pictures or interviews with the various dignitaries in attendance. Von Braun let out an audible sigh, then took a deep breath, put on the best fake smile he could muster, and opened the door. He maintained the happy facade as best he could, smiling and waving politely to cameras, but still walked with a fairly rapid pace, both to escape the cold as quickly as possible and to get away from the media. Once inside, he left his overcoat at the coat check and proceeded into the Museum.

Keith Ozio, a prominent Lawyer for the Jaketon area, and noted speaker took the stage as flashes erupted from the cameras of the press.
"Ladies and gentlemen, I believe it's time to swear in the third President of The Cascadian State," He said to applause, noting the official name of the nation. "Mr. and Mrs. McGovern, would you join me on stage?" The President and his wife walked up the stairs to join the speaker. "Can we just take a moment to recognize the accomplishments of this man? Only the second president of this country after full independence from the United Pacific. He oversaw the transfer of us from a protectorate of the Union of Christian States, which, without them the Northwest would've descended into anarchy. Mr. McGovern here had to build our military from the ground up, to protect a nation covering over 3 and half million square miles. He Oversaw the granting of self government to the Native Alaskan People, and the First Nations in Yukon and the Northeast Territories. Let's give thanks to Trevor McGovern for all he's one for Cascadia."

As the applause quieted down, Ozio re-approached the microphone. "Now, can I please have Mr. Willis join us on the stage?"

All three Willis's stand up, causing the some laughter, but not as much as they or the speaker had hoped. "How about just the one who will be the President of this country." Colin and Amanda meet Mr. Ozio on stage to much applause as they all shake hands. "Now Colin, these still time to not accept the appointment of the people."

As a few people chuckle, he answers, "Nah, I think I got this."

"Alright then. Now I know this isn't a wedding, but if anyone has any objections, speak now or forever hold your peace. We're still swearing him in, but hey, right to free speech." Hey motions for the Justice of the Peace for this precinct of Brooks County to come out on to the stage. "Mr. Haggerty, would you join us?"

Haggerty walks holding the Bible which Willis is to be sworn in on. "Raise your left hand, place your right on this Bible." Willis does so. "Repeat after me.
I do so solemnly swear that I will faithfully execute the Office of the President of The Cascadian State,
and will, to the best of my ability,
Preserve, Protect, and Defend the Constitution of the Cascadian State
From all enemies, Foreign, and domestic.

Colin repeats, adding at the end "So help me God." A tradition in both Cascadia and the UCS.

Ozio announces to the crowd, "Ladies and Gentlemen, may I present to you the President and First Lady of the Cascadian State!"

As the crowd erupts into applause, the Christian States delegation stands, Jacob and Geoffrey murmuring something to each other while Ambassador whispered to his wife, "Look I'm happy that this going to improve our relations and whatever. But I've got a bad feeling about this. Jake jumping back into the Cabinet and Colin and Geoffrey just happening to run at the same time? Just seems off to me."
"Do you know them to do anything off, honey? You've been friends with them since before Jake got the Presidency."
"I know, but what if that's why I was appointed? And kept her for 12 years? Someone that both governments trust that will just assume that a Willis can do no wrong?"
"Maybe politics has just made you paranoid. I'm sure nothing's up."

As Chancellor Daniel applauds for the new president, he remembers his own inauguration, and how different it was. Roigalien inaugurations are much more 'medieval', with a knighting ceremony, coronation, and ends in a joust between the old and new chancellor.

Despite the events going on in front of him, Daniel could not stop thinking of the painting. However, I shook it for enough time to begin dinner.
