CAF E-347 Backfire, 10,000 m above the ocean, 100 km east of Carsodonia
Image
E-347 Backfire takes off from a Carsodonian
Air Force base.
The pilot of the E-347 Backfire early warning aircraft quietly sung a song to himself as he guided the aircraft through the skies. The co-pilot, a certain Jose Cartagena, could only stare on in disapproval. He seemed oblivious to the fact that this was effectively a combat mission, in wartime, and wasn't taking it seriously. Maybe he should become the pilot? Cartagena was thinking this. Luckily for him, he didn't have to wake his trance from his trance. Rather, the voice of an instructor from air control chimed in. "Magic 98 report." Immediately, the pilot remembered why they were here; the prospect of war between Carsodonia and the self described "allies" Republika Srpska and Roski was growing ever higher. Already, artillery strikes had occurred and aircraft had been downed. In response, the Carlossian Air Force 557th Air Control Wing had been given orders to increase sortie rates, with no less then three aircraft in the skies at any one times, covering tens if thousands of square kilometres with their radar coverage. If an attack was imminent, these aircraft would be the first people on the opposite side to know and alert the appropriate commands.

"Roger command. We're taking her north. 107 kilometres now. Bearing 180, heading 330. Speed 851 kilometres and stable. Altitude 10k. Bringing her down 500." "Roger that Magic 98. Good hunting. Over and out." "Roger. Over and out." The plane continued on its planned course for the next few minutes, with everything seeming to be going on as normal in the cabin. However, in the operation centre that took up most of the aircraft interior, it was an entirely different story altogether. A Carlossian Navy missile tracking ship, the CN Accost had detected a series of missile launches consistent with the locations of current Roskian military assets, judged by data collected from satellite fitted with sophisticated synthetic aperture radars. Judging by their trajectory and bearing, they were flying right towards Carsodonia at subsonic speed. Immediately, the command centre was alerted to the launch. Soon enough, the missiles were bang on the radar, confirming the attack. "Jesus fuck! Command, we have a missile launch. Roskain and bearing towards Carsodonia."

Within minutes, most military assets were being alerted. "Roger that. We can see them." The data was being transferred via a data link to a central operations centre, who could see for themselves the objects crawling through the skies. A message was then sent out to Fourth Fleet Command, who had many assets in the area, including the missile cruiser CN Extremadura, whose crew would be the ones to deliver retaliation as well. The data was also transferred to Carsodonian air defence stations, who would be by now preparing to launch missiles to intercept the targets. This war would reach a whole new level of confrontation and the relationship between two nations would be permanently stained, for better or for worse. Everyone who the consequences of such an action, but it was indeed for the greater good of the world. The Carlossian state wasn't prepared to allow the Roskians to claim influence over the entire continent, whom they barely had any control over in the first place, especially Republika Srpska, which, at the best of times, was a frightened poodle trying madly to get free of his leash.

Meanwhile, Captain Felix B. Salvador stood on the bridge of the Carlossian Navy Asturias-class guided missile cruiser CN Extremadura, sipping away at a lukewarm cup of coffee while reeling through combat logs and glancing out at the vertical launch systems at the same time. Suddenly, the communications officer shouted. "We've got radar data from Fleet Command, sir. Roskian missile launches detected with heading for Carsodonia. Showing it now." On a large screen, the data from the AWACS aircraft was being displayed, along with the flight path of the missiles. "What are our orders now?" The communications officer contacted command again. "Intercept immediately, sir." The order was given out to the weapons officer, who readied the missiles to launch within two minutes, calibrating their flight path with the radar data and missile path. Information would be continuously fed to the missiles to correct their course.

"Fire!" the call reverberated through the room, but was quickly drowned out by the roar of a SAM-174 Kickback surface-to-air missile. Appropriately named, it rose up out the vertical launch system and propelled itself high into the sky, jetting off towards the horizon. Launched a tremendously quick speed, eight missile had been launched within ten seconds from the forward system. Another eight were launched, then another eight and then a final eight missiles to bring to a total of 32 anti-air missiles. With an operational range of around 400 km, a normal flight altitude of 25 km and a speed of Mach 3.5, success was almost guaranteed, fitted with a 62 kg continuous-rod high explosive fragmentation warhead that explode on or near the target to take it out. It would take only minutes for them to hit their targets and it was now only a question of waiting. Another 24 missiles lay in their cells to attack if any missiles managed to get through, which, judging by this display of power, was highly unlikely.

Department of Defence, New Carlingford, Carloso
Meanwhile, back in a city with security personnel on every street corner, in a room beneath the nation's Department of Defence, a group of men and women sat around a table with huge red-coloured LCD screens looming above. A military advisor of the Supreme Chancellor stepped over to tell him of the missiles. "Sir, the Roskian launched cruise missiles at Carsodonia. One of our missile cruisers was ordered to intercept them." the Chancellor nodded at the news approvingly. "Men, women. I've just been informed that the Roskians have launched cruise missiles at Carsodonia. One of our cruisers, however, was able to intercept them. I presume we will need to hold a press conference on this development? The Minister for Defence nodded a response. "Sure, sure. The press will be interested to find out what our response to the Tripolitania sinking will be. Or maybe, we will keep that a secret until the bombs start falling, eh?" There was moment of warm laughter in the room. It seemed everyone was looking forward to a good war; it had been more than 10 years since the nation had been actively involved in one of such scale. "War is great for research and development, you know."

The thoughts reeled back in Tobin's head; the security guard working for the Roskians, picked out so quickly by the officials at ONI, kidnapped in the middle of the night and shot in the back of the head, naked, with a .38 revolver. Breathtaking.

Maslov, Carsodonia – In addition to the rapid escalation of tensions between Carsodonia, Roski and Republika Srpska, the Department of Defence tonight announced that several "long-range anti-air missiles" fired from a Navy Asturias-class cruiser intercepted and destroyed an unspecified number of Roskian cruise missiles launched from warships towards Carsodonia. The action, which was coordinated by Carlossian Fourth Fleet Command, comes as one of the first instances of military confrontation between the two countries since the Second Great War. The action reportedly took place earlier this morning, when the missile launch was detected by an Air Force early warning aircraft. Carsodonian officials have yet to report casualties as a result of the attack. A geopolitically isolated country that suffers from bad relations with Republika Srpska, Carloso is believed to be one of few Carsodonian allies and possesses several key military bases and early warning installations. Minister of Defence Clyde Austin also stated, "The Armed Forces will continue to take these defensive measures for as long as the Roskian government pursue their aggressive policies against the Carsodonian state and refuse to come to the negotiation table. Retaliatory strikes will only serve to bring us closer to direct military confrontation, a scenario neither country wishes to see happen. Of course, we do realise that the violation of Serbian airspace was completely uncalled for and we would wish to support our friends in Srpska to the regard. We will keep you posted on updates throughout the day. Thank you."

Supreme Chancellor Carl Tobin reportedly talked to Carsodonian President Vladimir Voloski via phone last night, assuring that all would be done to protect his country from Roskian military forces. Also discussed were yesterday's worldwide terrorist attacks, now referred to by many as the "Bloody Tuesay" or "Black Tuesday" attacks, which are estimated to haven taken the lives of well over 3,000 civilians in Acronius, Sde Dov, Carloso, Huda and Brytene. The attacks in Carloso and Acronius alone killed over 2,500 people. An emergency joint meeting of Carlossian and Carsodonian security officials is to be held later on to discuss coordinated defence measures and the possibility of increased military operations and deployments in the area. A defence whitepaper for 2016 has already been published on the prospect of beefing Carlossian deployments to 20,000 and expanding existing military infrastructure.

The conflict started with the shooting down of a Carsodonian fighter jet that had reportedly wandered into Serbian airspace. In a speech expressing sympathy for those killed in the attacks across the world, the Carsodonian President also announced that artillery strikes had occurred on unspecified targets in retaliation for the downing. In response, the Roskian government de facto declared war on Carsodonia. Several cruise missiles were launched at Carsodonian positions, with many being allegedly intercepted by Carlossian anti-air missiles and possibly Carsodonian defences. The Roskian government has yet to respond to Carlossian demands for a ceasefire and return to diplomacy. The Department of Defence has also warned that sanctions from several nations were being considered on Roski at this time if it didn't comply.

We will keep you updated as events unfold across the world, including the war between Roski and Carsodonia and the terrorist attacks across Atlas, on television, mobile, radio and online.

Carsodonia launches Anti-Air Missiles against Roskian Cruise Missiles

Image
Carsodonian CS-400's fire 48N6DM long range missiles to intercept Roskian Cruise Missiles^

Today on CIN! Roski has launched Cruise Missiles at Carsodonian soil, Our ally Carloso was there to help defend our Motherland from destruction by firing Anti-air Missiles to intercept the Roskian Cruise Missiles. For that we thank you Carloso, In the same news, Carsodonia also launched Long range missiles to intercept the cruise missiles supposedly hitting most of what was left that the Carlosians didn't take out already, with the Carsodonian CS-400 anti-aircraft weapon systems. The Anti-air missile fired from the CS-400 was the Long Range 48N6DM missile with the operational range of 250 km, and can go up to speeds of Mach 6.2. President Voloski has yet to say anything on the conflict, except that he will do what needs to be done to ensure the safety of Carsodonia and it's people, President Voloski has also ordered more air patrols on the Carsodonian-Srpska border to make sure nothing crosses into Carsodonia by air, and the ground force presence on the border has also been increased, we are now seeing actual Carsodonian Army units in the area to reinforce the border guards and their positions. President Voloski has also said that he has no intention on invading Srpska and will not make moves to do so, that everything he is doing right now is in a defensive nature. He has also said that Carsodonia is working side by side with the Carlosians to make sure that this conflict doesn't escalate further and into a full out war, Carsodonia will also be allowing the Carlosoian forces free movement across Carsodonia and access to Radar among other things.

On the Srpskian border we also got to speak to Major General Victor Gurkovsky who is commanding officer of the 4th Combined Arms Army Heavy Armor Division. We asked him his opinion and if there is any new news to share with us and this is what he had to say, "I believe our President and Commander-in-Chief did what was right for the airmen, they deserved retaliation and if you ask me I would have done worst things to Srpska then just fire Artillery. As far as any new news to report, mainly troops have just been coming to the border ever since the jet was
Image
The Line of troops heading to the Border
downed, the Army is here to reinforce the border guard in case any enemy troops try to push their way into Carsodonia. We have also been getting large amounts of air support, who have been pulling extra patrols along the border in case any enemy air units wonder over, we have been given permission to fire on sight if there are enemy units on our side of the border, other then that it is the standard fire if fired upon procedure, I can't give the exact number of units on the border but I can tell you, that no one will be sneaking across to our side any time soon..." Thank you Major General Gurkovsky for that interview On our way back from the border we captured a picture of the long line of incoming troops, May Carsodonia stay strong, this is CIN signing off.

Carsodonian Radar and Missile Command
It has been a very heightened time lately for Western Radar and Missile Command, being in command on the border with Srpska where all current tensions have been happening, They were expecting the Srpskians or Roskians to react to the artillery fire with an attack of their own, Lieutenant Niklov Versesky was sitting at his normal station watching his radar screen and waiting for something to just pop up on it, he just graduated from the Academy and was eager to get some action, little did he know it was going to happen in an instant. Suddenly in his daze at the screen a bleep was heard and an object showed up on the radar then more and more showed up, Instantly Lieutenant Niklov reacted filled with Adrenalin "Sir, we have incoming missiles" He would pull his radar up to the big screen, and just then command would make a call and give the command to fire anti-air missiles to intercept the incoming missiles when in range, That's when Carlosian command called in with more information that they were incoming cruise missiles from the Roskians. With Carloso getting the radar hit first and reacting first they took out most of the cruise missiles, any that made it pass were taken out by the Carsodonian CS-400's. Cheering would ensue in the the command building as the missiles were taken out before making impact on Carsodonian soil. The men would shout out the Carsodonian motto of "Никогда отступаем! Никогда сдаёмся!".

War Room, Department of Defense, Maslov, Carsodonia
Back In Maslov all the news and information would have been trickling in the entire time the event was going down, The Minister of Defense along with President Voloski would be sitting at the command table watching the footage come in with other high ranking military officials. As the missiles were destroyed President Voloski would chuckle a bit "Well I guess Roski wants a war, don't they? Well They can keep trying for all I care, we are to take a defensive stance, so continue sending troops to the border to reinforce the border guard and lets increase our air presence at the border, double the air patrols and jets, no one gets into Carsodonia am I understood?" The officials would smirk and nod "yes sir" the minister of Defence would call Carsodonian Air and Ground Command giving them the new updates, "The President has ordered 4 Army divisions will be sent to the border to reinforce the border guard and make sure no enemy force gets through, With that we will also be sending a Fighter Air Wing with more CFJ-41 and CFJ-40's in it to help beef up the air patrols. No enemy commandants are to get past, President's orders." With that the call would be ended and bases all over Carsodonia would start acting at full alert and ready for a full scale invasion by Srpska and Roski.

Dmitrovskiy Air Force Base, Western Carsodonia
Image
Two Carlossian Air Force fighters patrol an area
inside the Carsodonian border.
Under an airbase directly outside the Carsodonian city of Dmitrovskiy in the western most portion of the country, Carlossian General Samuel Davidson and Carsodonian Lieutenant General Mstislav Sarnychev walked down the hallway side by side. As they moved towards the door at the end, they monetarily glanced at the men and women working to maintain the airbase, diligently directing sorties of aircraft in and out of the military installation. It was such a beautiful display of comradeship between close allies and friends; a Carlossian manned a station overseeing radar control while a Carsodonian manned a communications console linked directly to regional command in Maslov. Meanwhile, guards flanked the men every few metres of the way, dressed in full combat uniform, including ballistic protection, and armed with assault rifles. When both men got to the end of the hallway, they looked deep into each others eyes for exactly three seconds. Lieutenant General Sarnychev then pulled out a card containing a data matrix and flashed it across a scanner. In an instant, the blast doors pulled themselves open to reveal and huge command centre full of military officers and giant LCD screens reeling over battle footage from Sde Dovian airstrikes on al-Qaria affiliates in Nazat as well as precision reconnaissance data from satellite in orbit.

"Welcome home, Davidson." the Lieuteant General suddenly quipped. Indeed, this base had been the product of secretive bilateral relations between the Carlossian and Carsodonian government. Almost equipment had been supplied by the government back home to expand the capabilities of both militaries. The recent Roskian imperialist aggression in the area would only strengthen Carlossian presence in the area with places such as this becoming only all the more common. "Impressive set up we have here Sarny...", this was the affectionate name many had for the Lieutenant General. "What's the current situation on the border?" Everything here was super modern, the latest in design. Anything that the Roskians or even the Srpskans would try would be detected immediately and retaliation would potentially be lead from here. They were protected by several metres of reinforced concrete, effectively turning this facility into an impenetrable bunker only the biggest bombs could break.

"We have many thousands of men of on the border, Sam. In total, four divisions. The Roskian scum will think twice before they mess with us, eh? Haha." Sarny took control of a remote, switching the view of one of the screens to show a huge, extremely detailed map of western Carsodonia and eastern Srpska. In collaboration with the Office of National Intelligence and the Air Force, Srpskan positions were marked in red, while Roskian ones were marked in a more crimson shade. Carlossian positions were marked in cyan with Carsodonians being marked navy blue. "Your satellite intelligence tells us that most of their forces have yet to arrive. We plan to base those bombers you are selling in the south of the country, where we will be easier to hide. If it comes to it, they will be the first to pummel the enemy into the ground. Carsodonia will be unstoppable!" Sam returned a smile, gazing on hard at one particular screen that was repeating footage of the interception of the cruise missiles, showing a flight path and the point of collision. "Of course you will. Half the great powers are already getting ready to slap sanctions on Maksimov as we speak." The two men walked away from the initial platform overlooking the operations centre, moving down a flight of stairs to a briefing table below. "Your Navy's quick actions saved many lives, Sam. We are eternally grateful."

It was a sight to behold; allied military officials in various uniforms chatting away around the table. Once the two men arrived on the scene, they snapped to attention. "At ease, gentleman, ladies." Sam waved them all down. They all then sat down, with Sarny at the very top and Sam beside him. "Our enemies wish to sacrifice the world for their own personal gains people!" Sarny opened up. "The Roskian fascists threathen our way of life, our national sovereignty, all over a plane and a heap of rubble. Ridiculous!" There was a firm air of approval in the room. "As we know, our President, Saviour of the Carsodonians, Vladimir Voloski has stated that we are firmly on the offensive, but we are authorised to use all forms of weaponry to defend our motherland from the foreign menace!" The atmosphere in the room grew more. The Carsodonians shouted "Da!" in response, the men from Carloso just looking on to here the message of this energetic speaker. "Our allies here from the Carlossian fatherland have already helped in ways no other country in history has helped us; defending our innocent lives and preventing more bloodshed. Remember this; the fascist weak minded Roskian dog will stop at nothing to bully us into submission! With Carlossian support, however, we are nearly invincible, and the enemy is already paying the price!"

With that, he sat down, allowing Sam to stand and speak up. "Men, women, this is the reality here. The Roskians, for all they're worth, have stated their intentions to deploy 750,000 troops next door. First off, this is completely unsustainable and would account for just under half of their total active military. Rest assured, we won't see those kind of numbers on the ground and we will have both the economic and geopolitical advantage. My country's government is just after announcing a wave of sanctions against Roski, with reason to believe the Brytisc government will follow suit. By the end of the week, I can almost guarantee that the Roskians will be forced to the negotiation table as well. God willing, even more countries will join our cause in punishing the Roskians for their imperialist aggression." the officers approved these remarks and clapped as he sat back down. "Indeed they will, General." Sarny said with a thick slavic accent. "As they say, Арте́льный горшо́к гу́ще кипи́т."

New Carlingford, Carloso – After this morning's announcement from Roskian President Artur Maksimov that he demanded all Carlossian forces in Carsodonia to withdraw, parliament has today voted on a round of economic sanctions targeting sectors of the Roskian economy that will take effect at midnight. The measures are in response to Roskian involvement in the Srpskan-Carsodonian crisis, which started with the downing of a Carsodonian fighter jet with a Srpskan surface-to-air missile. Carsodonian officials deny the Srpskan claim that the fighter was flying in their territory at the time, and responded to the deaths of the two pilots with an artillery strike on targets in the east of the country. This resulted in the deaths of at least 30 civilians within close proximity to the border, according to Srpskan authorities. The Roskian military and government retaliated by calling the Carsodonian retaliation a "declaration of war against Roski", immediately launching a wave of cruise missiles from warships of Third Fleet at Carsodonian positions. All the missiles were destroyed by various Carlossian and Carsodonian sea and land bases systems, including a missile cruiser of Carloso's Fourth Fleet under the direction of a missile tracking ship and early warning aircraft. Maksimov immediately condemned the interception and has authorised the deployment of 750,000 personnel to Republika Srpska as a result. Military experts around the world have called these plans "unrealistic", "a fairytale" and "a logistical nightmare". Carlossian deployments in Carsodonia, however, are estimated to be around 5,000 on land, including 1,200 ground troops. Carosodonia acts as a major base for the Fourth Fleet of the Carlossian Navy, which also operates out of bases in Huda and its primary headquarters in Sde Dov. Currently, 20 Carlossian warships are believed to be stationed in and around Carsodonian waters.

With these sanctions, Carlossian airlines are prohibited from flying either directly or indirectly to Roskian airports. All Roskian airlines are prohibited from to Carlossian airports or into Carlossian airspace. Foreign investment by Carlossian companies into Roski and vice versa is to be curtailed forcefully, and import and export of specific items, including food, chemicals, textiles, pharmaceuticals, energy and raw materials, is to be banned outright. The Supreme Chancellor, in an official statement released today, announced that "These sanctions will be enforced for as long as the Roskian government threaten Carloso with nuclear war, Carsodonia with missile strikes, pursue their policies of imperialist aggression against us and our allies and refuse to come to the negotiation table. We have discussed these movements with members of PHALANX and other close allies and we can disclose that several are prepared to land sanctions on Roski as we have done so." Meanwhile, the Department of Defence announced that a full infantry division of 20,000 soldiers is to be deployed to Carsodonia in the coming weeks in response to the Roskian intentions to deploy 750,000 personnel. Talks between the Carsodonian and Carlossian defence ministries have also cleared the way for the purchase of 24 heavily modernised and modified B-178K Arbitrator strategic bombers from the Carlossian Air Force's reserve stockpile. Included in the deal are an unspecified number of guided bombs and air-launched cruise missiles.

Carsodonia has, since the missile interception, stepped up security levels to an all time high. Carlossian forces are being given permission to use Carsodonian air force bases to launch air strikes on al-Qaria positions in Dhechnia, while border patrols have been stepped up. Carsodonian President Vladimir Voloski has vowed not to take the defensive in any war that might erupt out of the crisis. Carlossian strategic commands, meanwhile, have put nuclear defences into a heightened state of readiness in response to Roski's heightened nuclear readiness level. Solders from the Carlossian Army's 7th Infantry Regiment went on parade in Maslov today on an official invention from the Carsodonian government, showing off their weaponry and equipment to thousands of onlookers who lined the streets to watch.

As stories unfold across the globe, we will keep you up to date online, on mobile, on radio and on television.
