Sároźagya|EnglishJiuseppe Cospájio convicted of High Treason!
Article by Frėja-Astrïed Lindaukwist
Today, at the Küserlijke Rechtskebøjwe, by the Order of His Excellency, Lord Chief Judge Chōhei Nyakamūra, Jiuseppe Cospájio was convicted of High Treason. Cospájio was arrested last week in Ouwagi, after it was discovered he was fighting on the side of the Ouwagi Republican Army, opposing the Krïdan backed-Ouwagi National Army. Due to the fact that he is a Krïdan citizen, fighting against His Imperial Majesty's Armed Forces, he has committed treason against not only the Imperial Crown but against the Krïdan Empire.
Cospájio left Krjder two years ago for Ouwagi, having left the army, where he had served in the 5th Skirmisher Regiment for five years as a junior NCO. Family and friends said he was going to do charity work and 'soul-finding' whilst out there. Back in November 2014, however, civil war broke out in the oil rich state, fuelled by republicans, opposing the rule of Sheikh Qimaal. Krïdan interests in the region prompted the government to send in troops, mostly to secure oil fields and ports. Last week, following the battle of Diwaaîsh, Warrant Officer Racław Kowiąćųński of the 12 Airborne Cavalry Regiment prised open the smouldering wreckage of a BTR-80, routinely checking for survivors, came across the injured Cospájio.
Cospájio was interrogated by Imperial Military Constabulary, an interrogation during which he admitted having fought with the the ONA as a mercenary. He was flown to Krjder on Tuesday to a military court in Haawel which then sent him to Aastejk to be tried by the State. He was convicted this afternoon and has been given the death sentence. He will be executed by firing squad tomorrow morning at dawn. Cospájio is the 226th person to be given the death sentence this year, a statistic which is becoming a topical debate in Krïdan politics.
His Imperial Majesty's Minister of Justice, Takahyirō Yuudaiī said that it was 'regrettable indeed someone has betrayed us, but he has received the prize he deserved for his treacherous schemes against Emperor and Fatherland."

226 people this year! As much as I support our justice system, I hope he is the last this year. Still, he is a traitor and deserves to be shot.

Not sure what to make of this... If he was fighting against us through and through, fine, he is a traitor and should be shot. However, is fighting against our foreign policy (admittedly oil-driven) treason?

Do people not have the freedom to oppose our imperialist government? I can sit here at my keyboard and type what I like about the government, but of I take up arms against it, I'm suddenly a traitor? This is just sick. Either send me to the gallows or abolish treason as a crime. It's outdated anyway.

Sergeant Treichker's boots crunched in the stiff snow as he approached the courtyard. Behind him followed Father Zwibbedorf, a bible pressed tightly to his chest. Assembled in the courtyard were eight constables, clad in their green winter jackets with their brown beaver fur trim. On rank of four knelt, the other stood behind, the butts of the rifles nestled in the snow. A single raven cawed from the watch tower. Up against a sand wall stood Jiuseppe Cospájio, in an orange jumpsuit. He was blindfolded and visibly shivering. Treichker approached the left flank of the firing squad and checked they were all in line. He turned to the quaking figure of Cospájio.
"Any last wishes? I have a man of the book here, if that's your thing." Treichker hollered, unceremoniously.
Cospájio grunted, shaking his head.
"Good, I wasn't going to grant them anyway. It's far too cold out here to be lingering." He turned on his heel to face down the two lines of constables.
"Squad will, with a magazine of two rounds, load!"
Like robots, the took a magazine from the jacket pockets and fitted it under the chamber of their rifles with a satisfying click.
"Present arms!"
The squad lifted their rifles up to breast height, digging the butt into their shoulders.
"Prepare to fire!"
Eight rifles suddenly had their working parts drawn backwards, before being slammed forward by the bolt, chambering a round.
"Take aim!"
The squad took Cospájio in their red-dot sights, each red dot over his heart.
"Fire!"
A short burst of gunfire caused Cospájio's chest to rupture with several bloodied entry-points. He slumped to the floor. Father Zwibbedorf made the sign of the cross, before heading indoors. Treichker stared at the body face down in the crimson-stained snow. He grunted dispassionately before announcing that he needed a coffee.
