Well, the negotiations in space are not doing so well.

But at least Hobbiest Republic's completely unexpected betrayal (I mean seriously, I didn't even know this one OOC) opened up a new battlefield! And in the only place we can still wage war effectively!

Singapore, post coming up regarding you soon.

Omgeverynameistaken, where are you? I was hoping (and apparently C'tan was as well) that you'd be assisting the ground combat in Kaybor.

1) Your fighters are being stalked by Menelmacar's clairvoyant pilots.
2) That really only helps you synthesize a biological weapon, which is the last thing anyone wants and frankly will result in everyone dead. The Interventionists won't let you get away with genocide, and the Excidians would rather abandon the planet and live then kill off the Birrin and either inherit a dead world or die to foreign retribution.

And honestly, we have Birrin on our side. You could have asked for tissue samples and we would have gladly given you some.

Excidium Planetis wrote:Counterattack posted. The orbital battle looks fairly hopeless now, since Vilkia is probably lost, Apophan is probably lost, more than half my forces are lost, C'tan betrayed us, Hobbiest Republic is retreating, and Usea can't be counted on to actually kill anyone.

Basically, unless one or more of the interventionist forces decides to suddenly switch sides and/or attack their own team, we've lost the orbital battle.

The ground battle, however, is far from over.

The Brotherhood offers to arbitrate the process of surrender. Once the C'tani and others release their jamming, we'll call in as many medics as necessary to clean up this mess.

But, as I stated in the Picard speech I gave to Aeiouia, I doubt this war really helps the Birrin. They now have a bunch of space debris, and whatever freedoms they have gained (since it sounds like some of their nations were selling their own species as slaves) will leave them indebted to nations with far superior technology that might not be so magnanimous. Not to mention cleaning up whatever radiation is left from this battle.

No matter how badly the occupation ruined their lives, the following Reconstruction and subsequent interference from so many FT and PMT civilizations will/has irreparably changed their culture and destiny.

They already had space debris. Lots of it. The Birrin are recovering from a civilizational collapse two thousand years ago. They were much more advanced before and there was prolly a Kessler cascade at some point in the interim.

Regarding arbitration, the Menelmacari aren't going to go for that. If they have any sin, it is pride, and in any case they won't take well either to slights on their honor or a third party that didn't contribute to the victory horning in. (not attacking you here, but the bros didn't shoot anything.) The brotherhood is welcome to observe though, as are the Tinfecti and Aeiouians.

I'm fine with RPing peaceful RPs (my next big RP is going to be on the creation and political implications of sapient AI), but I don't think that's the way this RP will go unless the surrender terms include the current Tenzeni puppet government remaining in place.

Hypothetically most people will take unemployment over death, and I'd imagine Percival is already so wealthy he never needs to work again, but fair enough.

That could be arranged I'm sure, the Menelmacari will probably demand some kind of election but I'd be amazed if Tachyon couldn't steal an election. OOCly I've no interest in pushing you entirely off the planet, that's just mean and you've been great to RP with.

According to Wolfram Alpha the Menelmacari could close inside four minutes at full burn. They wouldn't have been going that fast in order to save delta v for evasive maneuvers, but ten minutes, maybe fifteen?

Well, surrender would then likely be a viable option.

Tangential question: Approximately how long has it been since the battlestations were destroyed, would you say?

According to Wolfram Alpha the Menelmacari acceleration to turnaround took 37 minutes, so the stations were destroyed a little under an hour ago (they have not actually entered orbit yet, other than the fighters and missiles, which are faster, and the apps that jumped).

That is a lot longer than I imagined, for some reason. Definitely more than the 20 minutes I hoped for.

Right, but if anything it'll be a repeat if not worse, since the original lore seemed to suggest that there was one recovery ship that was shot down, not multiple starbases, a variety of capital ships, and many fighters that have been annihilated in orbit. The amount of debris for this upcoming Kessler cascade (if we do nothing) would therefore be much worse.

Not to mention the likely surface war that happened after that recovery ship was lost.

As for the offer of arbitration, well, it's on the table, but we understand if the people of Menelmacar would just shrug us off with contempt. However we shall reiterate the offer of sending medical and otherwise humanitarian assistance once the battle is concluded.

If our orbital capacity remains somewhat intact, we're avid scavengers, so certainly will be interested in harvesting the debris field regardless of which side we're on.
