Operation Jackel (TF Atlas Only, Part 1)

Postby Protestant England and Germany » Wed Nov 04, 2015 5:00 pm

November 4th, 1430 hours
Maxim, Protestant England and Germany

Rogue General Mikheil Zonovich seen in Chancellor's residence with 6 heavily armed "Revolutionary Guard". Chancellor Richmon and Royal Family is taken hostage. At the same time, military bases across PEG report heavily armed men storming and taking over. Brief periods of fighting erupt but are quickly put down by Zonovich's forces.

1500 Hours
PEG military forces close to borders with allies immediately pull out and regroup within several countries. Several Naval fleets manage to sail without interference from Socialist forces.

1600 Hours
Zonovich goes on national TV proclaiming himself new ruler of the "Peoples Socialist Republic of Protestant England and Germany". Witch hunts start for members of Parliament and military officers are rounded up and taken to "reeducation camps". Members of the State Special Operations Bureau are declared enemies of the state and command center is taken out.

1830 Hours
Siberia, Estovakia

International Arms Dealer, Yuri Orlav touches down in rebel camp inside Siberia. Snow storm delays departure as it grounds all flights in the area.

The Republic of Protestant England and Germany, a major power in the New Inquisition has suffered a violent, but "bloodless" coup de tat at the hands of rogue general Mikheil Zonovich. Zonovich, who was wanted by the old regime for attempted Nuclear Terrorism, managed to seize power after he and a squad of his Revolutionary Guard took the Chancellery and Parliament. To prevent insurrection among the military, as his first order, he purged the officers of all who were supporters of the old regime, replacing them with the upper echelon of his Guard. Right now, Zonovich and his Revolutionary Guard hold an Iron Grip over PEG and control multiple ICBM sites and four nuclear submarines. Zonovich poses a very real threat to stability in the region and after his announcement and statement of control, surrounding nations closed their borders and mobilized their armies, oblivious the WMDs now under Zonovich's control.

Zonovich wasn't able to complete this alone, Yuri Orlov, former PEG intelligence agent turned Arms Dealer and right hand man to Zonovich provided support via black market arms and laundered money that he made through shell companies in various states. With this, members of the State Special Operations Bureau designated Orlov as the main threat at the moment.

In order to destabilize Zonovich, a kill order was issued on his partner, who at this time is located in Siberia, negotiating an arms deal with local guerilla forces.

State Special Operations Bureau,
The Pub,
Alpha Squad,
Lt. Cmdr. Staffens, Commanding Officer

"Gentlemen," Cmdr. Staffens began. "I take it you all know what has happened in Protestant England and Germany, so I don't need to brief you on the situation. And if you don't, just turn on the news, it's all over it." Staffens cleared his throat. "Anyways the man we are going after is Yuri Orlov. He is an Ex-SSD operative that disappeared after he was caught selling weapons to the Fascists during the first civil war. He is currently in a small guerilla camp inside the Siberian wastes of Estovakia."

He laid out a map on the table.

"Orlov will be in the large building towards the north-east corner of the compound." He pointed to the building he mentioned. "And he will be meeting with the leader of the group. We don't know the name or identity of the leader, though it would probably do the Estovakians a favor if we take him out." He took sip of his beer.

"We have limited amount of time to pull this off." Staffen said. "Current weather conditions are shit, which means Orlov isn't going anywhere as the runway is too icy for anything to take off and land. Also, that means that the radar systems in the surrounding area are too messed up to even catch a Bear flying with it's flaps down." He looked around. "You are to go in and grab Orlov, the kill order won't come into effect unless it is absolutely necessary or until we get the information necessary." He pulled out the Op order. "Insertion is at 2200 hours in the field one klick outside the base, you will insert via Modified Chinnock helecopoter. You will have a four hour limit to complete the mission. Your insert point is the south side, either climbing over the fence or taking out the guards stationed at the gate. Once you are inside, you will make your way to the Target building. Do not engage, we don't want a fire fight or we'll lose Orlov. If you have to engage keep it localized and break contact at the first opportunity and head straight for the target. Once you retrieve the target or the target is KIA, move to LZ Charlie, It is two miles outside the eastern gate and in the clearing, use flares to signal evac. Once you are out of the op area, you will land on the HMS Doernitz. It is a Bismark class Battleship and from there, you will head back here for debrief." He paused to see if it sunk in. "Any questions?"

“Hmm”. Kaskov leaned off of the table, a hand stroking his chin for a brief moment. “I speak for Alfa when I say that we shall do our best to help your problem. However, I have just a couple of quick questions. Do we know any escape routes this Orlov may take, should a firefight break out? Additionally, do we have an estimated number of combatants we are to expect within the compound, and what heavy weaponry do they have. I don’t want to jump into this blind.”

This would be Vympel’s first deployment with Atlas, and Kaskov was feeling the deep tinge of nervousness. His training allowed him to throw that feeling away quickly. They were special operations, after all. There wasn’t time for self pity.

"Intelligence we "appropriated" from the Estovakians puts the amount of enemy combatants at battalion strength. As for heavy weaponry, that's what Orlov is there to discuss. The only heavy weapons you should expect are just a handful of DShK heavy machine guns, and a few jeeps." Staffens said. "As for escape routes, the only place for him to go is out the western gate, which my team will be covering, in addition to providing over watch."

Kaskov glanced back over his shoulder to Kovalchuk, who was twirling a pistol magazine in his fingers. The lanky man looked up, nodded, and went back to the magazine. Kaskov turned back to face Staffen.

“In that case Commander, you have Vympel’s full support in this operation. Not that it was optional. Just give us the word."

He turned around to go join the huddle of flora at the rear of the room. There was much to discuss.

"You know, we have a room for briefing, you bastards." Field Commander Commissar Vladimir Lenin groaned, looking over his right shoulder at the group of new soldiers crowding around the map. Although half drunk, he still had his wits about him. The man could most definitely keep his drink down, and it would take a lot to trash him. He was a tough man, and had drank a lot more than this on many occasions.

"Atlas Soldiers, return to your barracks and come back 0800 sharp tomorrow, in the briefing room. I'll be there, and I'll be able to talk clearly after I've sobered up." He almost mumbled, and leaned against the bar, one hand against it to prop him up.
The beatings will continue. Regardless of morale.

"Due to the time constraints listed, wouldn't waiting until tomorrow put us at a massive disadvantage against this threat? Correct me if I am mistaken, but it is my understanding that the current conditions are very advantageous for an assault." Kaskov addressed the man at the bar. "If we were to wait, this would become a far harder mission to accomplish."

"It is late at night, and there is bad weather. If the runway is iced over THAT MUCH that nothing can land, it will be iced over tomorrow. There will be bad weather tomorrow, and just as bad as today." Vladimir corrected, turning around to face them. "And if I am correct, neither of you have your own support. How far away is this country, anyway?"

"You know best commander. 0800 sharp." With a motion to the soldiers, Alfa Team stepped out into the fading light, leaving Vladmir and the SSOB to figure out the differences. To be completely honest, Kaskov didn't want to bother with an argument that would lead into childish bickering. He had been instructed to respect authority. These Atlas people were a finicky bunch, he thought as a small smile twisted itself at the corner of his mouth.

"You idiot." Staffens growled. "This is not some two-bit punk who smuggles a glock over the border to sell and call himself an arms dealer. This man is in charge of literally the largest arms and drug trade in the world. We take him, we cut the head off the biggest black market snake out there. And you should know that weather conditions in Siberia change almost instantaneously. Why do you think that Orlov wasn't able to get out before the storm hit?" He lit a cigarette. "Also, this is my mission and I'm also putting my entire team on the line as well, so if your constitution can't take it, then go have some more "liquid courage"."

Vladimir stood up to his full height and stared the man down. The new guy had no idea who or what he was dealing with, much less what he was doing. It was actually kind of comical. But now, it wasn't. His head instantly cleared as he stood over the man, and crossed his arms. He had crossed Vladimir, and he wasn't about to enjoy what was coming. "Soldier, you see this badge? You see this rank? This rank right here means I can order any sort of attack from MY country on him at any second. You see THIS badge? That means TF:A Field Commander. It means I don't have to take that arrogant bullshit of yours.

"Leaving now, when you have NO current plans of support, logistics, OR extraction means suicide. You are quite literally cut off from your own nation. The only elements of support you have are those provided TO you by others. And you haven't even STARTED that. Your men, if you could even leave now, would be tired the second they drop, be disoriented, and completely cut off. Mind you, they'd be attacked by fresh soldiers. You leave tomorrow, well, playing field is even.

"I've been in this business longer than you. It would be beneficial to listen to someone." He stopped after the rant, and took his cigarette and crushed it between his fingers. "You will give all involved a chance to suit up, to get ready, and to cover YOUR arrogant ass. Do you understand?"

"You're right." Staffens said, frustration building. "You're right, I don't have any plans of support or logistics. That's because I don't have any! And that's because you and your Communist fuck buddies took all of it when they took Maxim and started purging. So how do I know that you won't try to stab me in the back?! "Our nation, Staffens, had nothing to do with your unfortunate little coup. Our nation is quite willing to give this detachment support in taking out this arms dealer, because believe it or not, it benefits us a lot more than it benefits you. And you better learn to respect both that, and the members." He said, picking him up by his shirt lapel. Both his arms were on his shirt, holding him up. "Why should you trust us? We joined this place with the full knowledge that there would be all sorts of idiots here. We've fought against Cong allies, we've fought Gametopians, and we have fought Remnants. We respect them. Because we are their equal. What would I gain by killing you in battle?"

"The hell...They give us a kill order and tell us to keep him alive?"

"Well, this is a way to kill time. Haven't you heard what-"Nickel tapped German on the shoulder. He extended his one finger and moved his other four fingers in, now pulling German to face him. "Don't shake the rookies. First battle with viper is always a surprise,"Nickle smiled, retracting his ultrafirm gloves from the DM's shoulder. "So,"German turned around and walked down to the master gunny', Liberty. "What does this guy have? Mercenaries? High powered shit?"

The team was sitting around a table in the back carved firmly of a strong steel material, of which some spare firearm parts and knife shavings had covered.

Liberty was sitting down, biting her lip as she was sharpening her cold steel knife fresh from the package. "He has much more. He has tactics with his weapons. The man used to work as some sort of intelligence. Now he has black market weapons. His own stock," Liberty recalled from her memory earlier on. "And we need him alive. The pros are that we are good at breaching. We have Nickel and we just got Saturn. Plus, we all know what to do when as we get in. The cons,as you expect, are a lot more than the pros. We are going into...Into cold weather." She set her knife down and instead started to put together her MSBS Radon, camouflaged in a borderline blackish grey. "Last update we got is that hes meeting with a some local fighters."

"Hostile locals and one strong mother fucker on top?"Saturn cocked his helmet covered head over to Liberty. "He doesn't have a particular escape. Particular. That doesn't mean he cant flee, but if he does flee, we are in deep shit. Time needs to be our friend,"Liberty replied. Phoenix and Nickel were on the other side of the table, talking about the conditions for his drones and how well he could set up support barricades. "According to what weve gotten, its quote unquote, weather-proof."Nickel spoke out. "But I'm pretty sure Russia isn't like South America so it depends." Phoenix got a chuckle, which was all he really had been doing besides taking a drink from his water canteen every so now and then. "The new systems inside the drones seem to make it alert of the weather."

"Seems to be basic enough,"Saturn spoke his conclusion, breaking the silence on the other side of the table. German nearly whispered in his ear,"Trust me,it isnt" only for her 'intent' to be interrupted by a parent like scold coming from the other side of the table.

"German. I told you, stop picking on the rookies."

Jessica stood up, she realized that if they went now they would likely be going home in body bags, if that. She would rather not have the entire team annihalted on their first mission so she decided to speak out against the plan in support of Vladimir.

"Look it is clear that we have no logistics, very little in terms of support, in addition to having poorly rested soldiers. Any attempt to try to start the mission at this point would result in a slaughter of epic proportions for our side. It is best if we go tomorrow as that is when we would have more of a chance then. I personally believe that if we attack tomorrow we could complete the mission without taking many casualties. According, to the intel provided it appears that the forces that we are facing are not very well trained, as they are only local guerrillas, and not even regular troops let alone elite troops. We should be careful around them however as I think that they would have very high morale, despite their lack of training. That being said that would make it difficult for to recover the target from the guerrillas, for the guerrillas greatly outnumber us, and they are capably calling in more of their equally fanatic comrades to the fray, producing an almost limitless reserve for this operation. They also know the terrain better than us, and would be at an advantage as we stumble through unfamiliar terrain in the dark.

If we strike tomorrow we can start with the targeting of guerrilla communications via air strikes, have better rested troops, and we will have a better chance of suceeding with minimal casualties."

Agent Jones stood in the corner and observed. He wore the official uniform of a seasoned ILO agent - a suit with a bird pin at the lapel, an eagle for his rank, and an X over his right shoulder - ten years of service. He was talking into his phone casually.
"Yessir, I'll keep things in hand. I'll ask. G'bye sir." He pocketed his phone, and casually looked at the hand gun he was holding in case of emergency. Or big fights.
"All right. The way I see it," He nodded to Vladimir. "This mission is screwed without support."
"So, I just got off the phone with my boss, and we're willing to provide artillery for the mission." He addressed only Vladimir for this - Field Commanders are authority, after all.

BlackWatch walked into the Pub, having just landed outside.

Rector immediately noticed the tall Russian about to squish one of the new squad's leaders. Recognizing poor Commander Staffens from their joint flight, he decided to come in and atleast try to help.

''From what I heard outside and on the news, there's some bigwig arms dealer who, in Siberia, is negotiating an arms deal. Guys, look outside. If it's a freezing cold blizzard here, it's an ice age there. We'll wait till tomorrow and gather up some logistics and support. If we have the equipment and the weather is good enough to fly out tomorrow, great. If not, well, there's always a day after that. Flying now isn't a damn option, our plane nearly skidded off the runway trying to land. Taking off would be worse. Atleast that's our two cents.''

Rector then went over to the bar and ordered a Vodka on the rocks.

No. I do not want to demand my troops endanger themselves unloading your artillery onto hostile territory. Not at this moment. Besides... We don't even need it." Vladimir looked at him and shook his head. "Anyway. Everyone, retire. Report back here 0800. disMISSED."

"So,how are we supposed to get in? Ho Chi Minh our asses? Skydive and bomb them with human icicles?"Saturn said, jokingly with a hissy tone inside. "A 'modified chin-" German shrugged,"Vlad has been nothing but give shit answers to shit questions. We don't know shit about getting in. High C's been rambling on and on about how we cant do crap with the current weather a-"

"Weather...We are a special forces unit. Tier one-"Saturn got his karma for interrupting German by a one liner from Liberty,"We aint aliens. Nor are we bringing a heating panel along with us."She chipped the patch on Saturn's left shoulder, a highly detailed emblem of the Shadownian Flag. A few green threads stayed up in the air until Saturn tried to swipe them. The gesture was interrupted by Liberty grabbing his fist in a firm grip. "One. Pay attention. Two, High C has been fucking the subject hard into the ground. The others were stimulating the subject."She let go of Saturn's hands. The new operator walked down and pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He cupped his other hand beneath his left hand. His left hand shook the box, which made the one remaining cigarette fall in his right hand. He put it in his pocket and took out his lighter. "Jesus, where are the others? Hungover?"He said before taking the cig' to his facial area.

"So,"Nickel stood up, his voice louder than when he was talking with Phoenix. "I apologize for my rudeness but 'High C' is changing briefing. Making it harder on us. Hes telling us to take the bastard Orlov alive. Ive got audio recordings on my cam,"He took the chip out of his visor and put it into his TacPad. "Alive or dead. We may have trouble getting a evac and hes making us take the most powerful dealer in the world ALIVE?"

German chuckled a bit,"Seems like someone has the balls to confront Vlad."

This RP is currently on hold as I get things in IRL sorted out.
After spending 19 years on this earth, I've learned one important thing. Life is a bitch, but its the way you roll with the punches and fight back that makes it wonderful.
I am a right leaning independent
