Big ones can do pretty serious damage.

To anything in shallow water. Tsunamis don't even "take form" until they hit shallow water. You can be in a rubber dinghy and as long as you're over/in deep water, the tsunami won't harm you. It will barely even move you because it doesn't have much of a surface wave yet.
