En route to the Nemean Abyss, Alpha Quadrant — circa 1366 XS
Procopios continued to pay attention to the one hour documentary playing on his datapad about the Infinite Sith Empire's history. So far the video was past the 35:00 mark, and the video just kept playing and playing. It certainly has been a long period of time that passed since any Perseid ship crossed paths with the ships of the Nemeans — what the Perseid merchants once called them. By this time it had been three days since his spacecraft left the Sivulon Reach and traveled through the old routes that his forefathers forged in the stars. Having been in the same position in his seat for a while, his joints seemed to be locked for a while; and so he shifted his body slightly so that he could feel a bit more comfortable. A drone came over to his seat and offered him a cocktail of magberry juice with some light pyrohydris. Offering him a glass it said to him, "Would you care for some, Emissary?"
He turned his head and the datapad automatically paused the video. "Yes, please." The drone slowly placed the glass on the table in front of him, and immediately left his presence after the diplomat thanked it. Slowly picking it up and moving the contents of his beverage around, he turned back his gaze at the pad, and it started to play from where it left off. He took a tiny sip from his beverage and placed it on the folding table in front of him. "… The Siths, while they benefited from the Nemean Channel that branched off from the main Sivulon Passage, didn't entirely need the Trade Network to survive economically. After all, they had abundant resources at their disposal, and they were also connected to other interstellar trade routes…"
His diplomatic shuttle, which could be barely distinguished from the surrounding pitch black void round it, wasn't a large ship — its length hovering only around a hundred meters — but it was the craft that will be carrying the Perseid ambassador to the Infinite Sith Empire, the subject of the video. From the viewpoint of the universe, or at least the viewpoint of a ship passing by, the shuttle was better distinguished by what its phase drive was emanating; which made it appear to be a rogue comet. While the destination was certain, what wasn't was the Sith Empire itself. How long must it have been since any Perseid had seen the Nemean Abyss and the worlds that were in it? This must be why Procopios was watching that documentary so he could have some idea of what happened in the past three centuries.
From a distance, the capital world of the Nemeans was beginning to come into view — first as a faint sparkle of light that blended well with the dotted background of space, then as a more discernible sphere that stood out. As the ship came closer, finer details could be made out by Procopios — particularly spacefaring vessels that came from all directions, the cloud formations that encompassed the planet, and a natural satellite orbiting it. So this must be their seat of government, the diplomatic emissary thought to himself. By this time, the video was playing its last few minutes, concluding the documentary with some parting thoughts to ponder on.
His itinerary was already laid out by the Organ of Foreign Relations at the recommendation of the Sith Sphere of Expansion and Diplomacy. Among the items in his itinerary, it included that he will be meeting with the head of the Foreign Ministry, visiting a few important locations throughout the Empire, and meet with the Sith Emperor — all in a span of ten days, for the universe had a nasty obsession with keeping things as far apart as possible. Sophonts might as well drag out their schedules to have as much time as possible.
As the craft approached the planet's gravity well, its phase drive stopped, and a visible ripple was produced from the ship's sudden return to subluminal velocities. The streams of light dissipated into thin air, like the fading glistening of glass when the lights turn dim. Surely the Nemeans would take notice of this non-Sith spaceship within reach of their holdings… A few ships of the Empire may have detected the Perseid craft arriving into their territorial space, and proceeded to hail it — as was their standard procedure. In fact, all star-states would've probably done the same with UFOs. "Attention, unidentified vessel," signaled an Imperial Star Destroyer that was most likely part of the Home Fleet, "this is the Imperial Star Navy. You are entering restricted exoatmospheric space; state your point of origin and your purpose in the Sith Empire."
The voice of an AI responded to the Nemeans' hailing. "Imperial Star Navy, this is a diplomatic shuttle responding; point of origin is Perseid Federation. … Requesting clearance for docking, carrying diplomatic envoy of the Omospondia."
The diplomat was welcomed by the Siths in a decent modus operandi — not terrible as to cause a stir but not so great as to suggest that they were in very good terms for a long time. Then again, the Perseids would feel the same way; with the questionably totalitarian Sith-headed government and all. An army of state journalists flocked to get a glimpse of the sight of him in the spaceport. With a small security contingent he was brought to the Sphere of Expansion and Diplomacy Offices in order to meet Darth Ravage — the Sith Emperor may have to wait a bit before his Highness may want to acquaint with Procopios. As he exited his vehicle, some of the people took notice and caused a commotion. It was said time and time again, no Perseid contact had been made to or from the Sith Empire ever since the former distanced from the galaxy — perhaps this long hiatus in Perseid-Nemean relations will end now.
