Shiinraan Insurgency [Austritaria Only]

Postby Shiinraa » Mon Sep 07, 2015 12:32 pm

Shiinraa's economy had just reached a new low. Khaalid Alam, the current leader of Shiinraa and the Sultan's Political Party, is losing his supporters to the two most popular political parties in Shiinraa, the Imperialist Party and the Communist Party. A war was inevitable in Shiinraa. Khaalid no longer had the military on his side, the military was split between the Imperialists and the Communists. The soldiers are waiting to be ordered by their beloved parties. Khaalid still owned the Grand Palace but he knew it wouldn't last. He sat in his dark, quiet office. He was smoking a cigarette and looking out the window to see protesters throwing rocks at his palace. Khaalid knew by the time he was thrown out of his palace the Insurgency would start all across Shiinraa. Khaalid got up from his chair and walked to the Serpent Quarter in the palace. He picked up a basket of toads and began tossing them to the vipers. This was the last time he would feed his snakes that he loved. Khaalid heard loud bangs on the palace door, his time was running out. Khaalid walked through out the empty palace until he got to his bedroom. He sat on his bed and pulled open his nightstand. He gazed at a small pistol and bullet. He picked up the pistol, loaded it and pointed it towards his head. He pulled the trigger and ended his life with a loud bang. It was better to end his life himself then be executed by irate revolutionaries. Echis bless him.

Haythem Karim is the leader of the Imperialist Party in Shiinraa. Haythem was gentle but he could become very manipulative when he really wanted something. Haythem was born to a wealthy family in Bardaj and grew up with great pride for his nation. Eventually he became king of the Imperialist Party in Shiinraa. Haythem is currently gathering soldiers to declare war on the Communist Party. Hundreds of soldiers stand before him. Haythem yells to the soldiers "Who do you fight for?" The soldiers yell back with "The Imperialist Party and for a new Shiinraa!" Haythem nodded and he paced back and forth on the podium he was standing on. If Haythem was going to win the Insurgency he needed support outside of Shiinraa. Haythem wanted help from all the monarchies across Austritaria in order to create his vision of Shiinraa which was 'The Holy Empire of Shiinraa'.

On the other side of the spectrum was Faisel Zaman, the leader of the Communist Party in Shiinraa. Faisel is a peaceful man but he has no other options to make a united communist Shiinraa, he had to go to war. Faisel was born extremely poor in Parash until he became 17 and was drafted into the Shiinraan military. He stayed in the military for over 30 years because military food was better than no food. Eventually Faisel retired from the military to study politics. Soon he became leader of the Communist Party and he wants to make an equal Shiinraa. He is currently trying to gain support from the poor towns and cities in Shiinraa. This the poor is more open to Communist ideas. Faisel's wants turn Shiinraa into a free communist state that is open and compassionate to all.

After a long debate on the Baldelunan senate, with the query: Should Baldeluna intervene in the Shiinraan conflict? the results were surprisingly:
  • Yes: 345 senators
  • No: 150 senators
  • Blank: 5 senators
.

The senate after sharing the results to the public media and recognizing the "Shiinraan Imperialist party" as the new competent authority;the debate continued (this time at closed doors) to determine the way Baldeluna will be involved in such a conflict.

Given an unknown result, the senate assigned the a task to the "Armed forces chancellery": to prepare a Baldelunan contingent able to assists "Imperialist Shiinraan troops" in any necessary aspect, even if it involve armed confrontation with insurgency only within Shiinraan sovereignty.

Today in the morning the armed forces Consul, offered a speech about the Decision taken by the "Armed forces chancellery":

Beloved citizens of Baldeluna, glory to our country and to our heritage.

Yesterday, our Senate assigned us the mission to prepare a military contingent to support in any necessary aspect the Shiinraan ( forces to stop an almost certain bloodbath...

... and we decide the best option, is to send a well prepared legion, supported by already assigned air units and naval support ...

... So we believe this is not going to scape of the control of our joint efforts, yet our armed forces are nothing but professionals, and we wish the best luck to our soldiers, and let me remind all our involved personnel, that the best mission, is the one in which is not necessary to fire a single round. Ladies and gentlement, thanks for your attention and have a good morning.

Right now, Baldelunan "Armed forces chancellery" published the units involved:
Legion "The judge's will" that consist of:
  • 4 infantry units
  • 2 armoured units
  • 1 artillery unit
  • 1 medical corps unit
  • 1 aviation unit (only Venoms armed with HMG's and attack helicopters HAL)
  • 1 engineers corps
supported by 20 fighters M-12 "zorrillo" (JAS Gripen ) and 5 M-119 "white death" (L-39). Tomorrow in the morning two anphibious assault vessels, 4 personnel transport ships will set sail with the contingent (escorted with 4 frigates, one land ships and a submarine) to the shiinraan maritime border yet it is unknown which territories are under Imperialist control, and also, waiting the "GO" coming from Imperialist troops to sail Shiinraan sea.

is expected that it will take 9 days since tomorrow for Baldelunan troops to arrive Shiinraan sea.

Right now, the contingent is being transported to the port of "Valdelpuerto" and images of soldiers Parading and saying "good bye" to their loved ones turned common in the last hours.

His Excellency, Izrem Ziyat, congratulates his countrymen on helping their neighbours

The physical and virtual polls have decided to intervene in the Shiiraan conflict, in behalf of the Imperialist Party, after 85% of the results voted for it, 14% voted against intervening, and 1% voted to intervene and reconstruct Shiinraa with the Communist Party.

Image
Some of the few Meralans that voted physically

Following the collapse of the former Shiinraan regime, Shiinraa is about to reach a boiling point which will lead to armed conflict, since both sides of the fight have the support of the military. Whilst the Imperialist Party is more likely to rule with an iron fist, the Meralans have supported it, claiming that it will lead to the least amount of suffering, compared to the widespread misery achieved under communism.

As a youth remarked on the King Jazal Barracks in Azrah:

"Everyone should be aware that communism only brings more suffering than prosperity in either face. Sure its a long way to achieve success in every form of government and economic system, however, communism will not lead to success, as its likely that the oppressors will come and promise free things to the lower classes, who desperate are to get out of their status, and thus, by holding emotional strings, a cunning man can raise an army. It is said that political power grows out of the barrel of a gun, and the only ones mad enough to apply this method, are them reds".

His Majesty, Izrem Ziyat, gave the following press conference:

"My people have voted to help their neighbours, and I will do their bidding for I am just the messenger of them. Well, I and the elected Prime Minister but that matters not. Merala will deploy troops right away to support the Imperialist Party, who according to several additional comments that came in the comments section of the website http://www.youdecide.ml.gov, state that they're the best option for them, as their misery will only be gained by supporting the "reds". Troops have begun to organise in Tafar, and several drones have been deployed to search the area for activity. I congratulate my fellow countrymen on making what they believe is the right choice, and if they think its the correct decision, I will put my faith on them."

Soldiers preparing for deployment towards Shiinraa

As stated by His Excellency, Tafar is already preparing troops for deployment in Southern Shiinraa, although there are reports of preparations in Northern Merala, specially in bases near the Hafif, the name given by Merala to the desert south of Shiinraa. The Navy's Submarine Regiments are preparing first, and the Air Force is sending scout drones towards the areas.

Haythem Karim of the Imperialists notices an increase of international support for his cause against the Communists and the Sultan’s Party. The poor folk of Shiinraa fear it may be the end of their lives and the lives of their families if the Imperialist Party was to win. The Communist party points their lack of supporters to the recent execution of over 500 alleged supporters of the Imperialist and Sultan's Parties. It seems very unlikely that the poor communists with their peaceful leader would go through with such an action. Faisel Zaman is in Al Kumer trying to gain support from the people of the alleys as the city is torn apart by Imperialist artillery. Haythem stands upon one of the artillery guns and he reminds his soldiers what they are fighting for. “Come faithful warriors, let us find Faisel and destroy his hideout for killing our brothers, sisters, parents, and children.” Hundreds of Communist soldiers are charging forth from Al Kumer in a noble effort to stop the Imperialist artillery on the outskirts of the city. However, the effort of the brave souls was in vain as they climbed over their dead comrades just to end up as a blood stain on the dry sand.

After the conflict, Faisel had fled to a town nearby Al Kumer to regroup. Faisel is losing but he is not giving up, he couldn't possibly give up on the the people who believe that only he will change the nation of Shiinraa for the better. This conflict will shake all of Austritaria and the land of Shiinraa even more. As more and more nations get involved the more devastating the conflict will become. Al Kumer and Al Wasa are the first of Shiinraan cities to be destroyed. Faisel believes he will be able shake off the controversy surrounding his party even if it had put his party at a great disadvantage.

Kriegsmarine-Kampfgruppe Sultanat, 2000km away from Arkeh
The Marines had made impeccable time. 5000 ready, with IFVs, air support, and a missile cruiser for defense in a time span of 8 hours. Though, coming at the cost of slightly undersupplied troops - but of course no one was expecting a fight at all. Come very early morning, they would be near the Shinraan Capital of Arkeh. Arkeh, being the site of extremely dense city fighting was not the main goal for the main fighting force. It was rather the multiple small villages and roads leading into the Capital that had interested Korousean planners the most. Cutting off any possible supplies and securing the smaller towns was vital before any further activity. The Kampfgruppe would also be supporting with what little Aircraft they had - six Str. 29 VTOLs and a mixed hand full of Attack, Transport, and Utility helicopters. It was believed these assets would last long enough for any sizable force to prepare and come in support of the Korousean Marines. Despite the clear advantages the Korouseans had, the situation still looked grim from a different aspect.

The Korousean Marines had little in the way of experience, from the rank of Private to Major-General, in desert warfare. Even worse, Korousean weapons were notorious for not working in the more "extreme" environments, and rarely were units trained for harsh heat. Only time could tell if this gamble for time versus planning could work out.

Ghaali of the Sultan’s Party hails the Korousean support with great gratitude. The plan to surround Arkeh was in effect. The Sultan’s Army and the Korousean Marines are currently taking control of small towns near Arkeh to cut off reinforcements and supplies from the opposing forces. It will take a few hours until the Imperialist and Communist soldiers in Arkeh would be suitable for the Sultan’s Army to fight. However, the issue is that also a sandstorm was approaching Arkeh. The sandstorm will decimate all forces outside Arkeh so Ghaali had to act fast to take the city.

A massive force of Imperialist soldiers was headed to Arkeh to provide support and to escape the sandstorm. The Sultan’s Army and the Korouseans got into positions. A massive barrage of gunfire ensued as the two forces clashed. A T-56 battle tank owned by the Imperialists punched a hole in Ghaali’s forces. The tank was soon met with fire from a F-9 Land Shark which led to an empty shell that was once a tank. Ghaali took a stray bullet to the leg as he shot back in retaliation as Korousean soldiers successfully flanked the Imperialists. The last few Imperialist forces began to fire non-stop in desperation. A few soldiers were wounded as they put down the remaining Imperialists. The victorious Korousean and Sultan’s Army soldiers soon began to feel sand hit their faces. The sandstorm was on its way as well as more Imperialist forces.

The Imperial Chancellery, Glopurg
Three men stood in the chamber, talking in low voices. At first, an onlooker may have thought them to be planning a coup d'etat, as the members of this company were important. Ocillus Fesh, Lord Chancellor and Minister of Crown Security; Andreas Schiller, Minister of the Exterior and Secretary of Foreign Affairs; General of the Army Glagstone, Chief of the General Staff.
"Gentlemen, you may have undoubtedly heard of the situation in Shiinraa," Fesh began, "In fact, I would be disappointed if you haven't."
"Well, we have, so go on." Schiller said.
"Then you may know that the two factions at war are those backing the Sultanate and the Communists." He paused. "Do I even need to tell you which one the Emperor and I plan to support?" Fesh asked.
Glagstone smiled, "So you've already talked it through with His Imperial Majesty, then?"
"Not yet." Fesh said, "But he won't take much persuading. Emperor Veztazon realises as well as we do that having a communist nation anywhere in Austritaria would be a potential danger to us, if not in the short term then in the long term. Communism despises everything to do with our way of life, and the monarchy and aristocracy especially."
Schiller nodded. "Should I inform the Sultan's faction of our support?"
"Not yet. We need the Emperor's approval first, before we take any official diplomatic action. I'll ring you when we have it." Schiller nodded and left. "As for you, General," Fesh continued.
"Yes?" Glagstone replied.
"If we are to actively support the Sultan we ought to have troops ready to deploy. The Korouseans have deployed their Marines. An entire division, or so I've heard."
"Who told you that? MID (Military Intelligence Directorate) tells me that they have 5000-odd men, or the size of one of our brigades." Glagstone said quizzically.
"Their numbers are irrelevant. What matters is that we have troops of our own to deploy." Fesh said.
"Well, we do." Glagstone said, "The 61st Airmobile Brigade is on standby. We can fly them out to Shiinraa within a few hours."
"Anything more suited to conducting land operations?" Fesh asked.
"The 9th Grenadier Division is in the vicinity of Denator and also ready to move out. Twenty thousand men, with tanks, IFVs, APCs and Artillery. Though they will take a bit longer to arrive."
Fesh nodded. "Prepare them for redeployment, though by no means are they to actually leave Igorian soil until I have the Emperor's permission."
"Yes, Your Excellency." Glagstone said, spun on his heel like the soldier he was and left.

A little while later
Fesh stepped out of the black car that had pulled up at the main doors to the New Palace. He strolled up the steps, and watched as two soldiers of the Palace Guard opened the doors for him. He then strode through, past the tourist section of the Palace, and to the Emperor's residential wing. Once he got there, he passed more and more soldiers and bodyguards. But they did not stop him. They knew him by sight, and, after all, he was the Lord Chancellor. There was no reason to stop him. At last, after passing numerous corridors, he came to a set of double oaken doors. To the right, behind a heavy table, sat Emperor Veztazon II's secretary.
"Evening," Fesh told her.
"Good evening, Your Excellency." She said pleasantly and smiled, "Anything I may help you with?"
"Yes. I'm here to see His Imperial Majesty."
The secretary nodded. She pushed a button, and asked, "Lord Fesh here to see you, Your Majesty."
Veztazon's voice crackled back through the radio, "Send him in."
The secretary smiled and indicated the doors. Fesh stepped forward and opened them.
Veztazon II of the House of Sathrus, Emperor of Igoria and Archduke of Ronar, sat behind a table reading a letter. Upon seeing Fesh enter he looked up.
"Your Imperial Majesty. I hope I am not disturbing you?" Fesh asked.
"What? Oh, no, not at all. A letter from my cousin Nereida, off in the Weltenbaum. Nothing important." Veztazon said, setting said letter down.
"Do you royals still write proper letters?" Fesh asked with a hint of wry amusement.
"Nereida does." Veztazon smiled. "What brings you here, Fesh?"
"The war in Shiinraa. Things have gotten a bit out of hand since their Sultan shot himself."
"I am aware." Veztazon said, "So I suppose you want us to intervene, and are here to convince me?"
"Something along those lines, yes."
"No need to convince me. I've already telephoned Schiller, and asked him to inform the Sultan's faction of our support. I've also put in a request for Ricimer to send the Sultan's party 50 upgraded Warlord tanks and 2000 AR-941 rifles from storage." Veztazon said.
"And what of the..eh...boots on the ground, Your Majesty?" Fesh said, somewhat nervously.
Veztazon looked at him. "So you also want to send soldiers? Igorian soldiers?"
"I though it would strengthen our commitment," Fesh said, knowing to tread carefully, "And give us a better position to deal with the Sultan's faction when they come to power."
Veztazon considered that for a moment. "Very well." He nodded, "I trust you've planned ahead, and already have some troops on standby?"
"You know me too well, Your Majesty. Call Glagstone and order him to send the 61st Airmobile Brigade and the 9th Grenadier Division, with air support and a small naval escort."
Veztazon nodded. "Good work, Fesh."
"All in service to Igoria." Fesh bowed and left.

"If there's no road, we will make it"

Postby Baldeluna » Sat Sep 12, 2015 11:08 am

The day has come and From the Shiinraan east coast is visible the Baldelunan fleet approaching to the coasts, inside the ships Baldelunan Soldiers have a mixture of feelings, they are highly excited but at the same time nervous, yet they don't know who theyare going to fight, if well trained army or just civilians trying to hit something with their guns, anyway, inside the ships High officers finally annunce a meeting with all officers involved at 0800 hours. once all the officers were together the General Zenobe Elerrti entered the room:

*all the officers saluting*

-Gentlemen, please sit down and feel confortable. *after saluting back*

- Today is the day we all where preparing for, we are at 7 Kilometers from Shiinraan coast and those reddies (nickname given by Baldelunan soldiers to communists) think we are here to joke, just 7 kilometers away from this room innocent civilians are being murdered by those dogs, remember why we are here... *looked to his crew*

- Today we are launching Operation "HASPA" we will be the first foreign troops steping into Shiinraan lands, so don't expect a warm welcome, the "S" hour will be at 2300 hours, you all know how the operation will start, at 1700 a special forces guys will be dropped into their lands to evaluate which is the best spot to land and mark any risky position for us to focus on them, be ready and good luck. dismiss.

*the General leaves the room*

Welcome to the desert!

1700 hours, a navy special forces group are entering the two Venoms that will drop them into the LZ, they are focused and they arleady know what is the plan to achieve their objective, 12 men will mark the safer spot for an entire legion to land, is a huge responsability and they all know it. 1710 hours the pilots give the order for them to prepare, their weapons are locked and a few of them starts their ritual before battle, everything was okay until they reached the hot zone in which they were expected to land, none of them would ever imagine what was about th happen next:

-1713 hours, pilot: Ok guys here's our drop zone, descending. *the venom starts descending*

Special forces cptain Midal Morel: *Pushing his PPT buttom* Aiight guys! we got this, this is just dust and sand, let's do our work!

*Venoms helicopters touch the ground and the 12 men are on Shiinraan lands, 3 kilometers away from the coast*

The group starts walking towards their objective as the helicopters were leaving, now they are by their own, the captain order the group to advance in two columns and designated the pointmans, really good marksmen.

-1726 hours: One of the pointers order th whole group to stop and get down
-Captain, I can sight 7 men walking east direction armed with small arms, can't tell if they are friendly or not. *following them with his rifle sight*
+ It's Ok, let them go, our primary mission is to mark a safe spot to for our guys to land, not to engage. *the captain said*
-Roger that.

1801 hours: they are just 1 km away from the cost at the top a hill, the observers are set and the rest of the group is patrolling the sorounding area, the captain is communicating by radio everything to the fleet 8 km away, until the radio had a failure.

- GODDAMN! THIS PIECE OF SHIT!
+ Any problem "Cap"? *asked the designated radio operator
-I lost the signal and can't find it back
+let me handle this...
*after 8 minutes trying to fix the radio he realized thet the had an electric failure*
+Sir, the radio is fucked up, I can't fix it in here...
-Oh, is there other way to communicate with the command post?
+Yes, but is not as safe as our radio.
- Our worst menace are farmes with light rifles, is critical for us to mark the safer spot.
+As you wish * he display a small device and point an antenna pointing in direction to the feet, the captain inform the little failure and proceed speaking*

1846 hours: a scared voice from one of the men protecting the perimeter interrumpt the silence on the hill.

Fuck! contact! *fire a few rounds* They found us! captain we have a huge problem in here! *keeps shooting as two partners start running to help him*

The captain: take up your shit, and prepare for combat *yelling to the observers* Sargeant! inform the situation. you and you protet the other side of the hill, any suspicious movement and you opne fire, doesn't matter who it is!

(CP, CP, here 12-17, we have contact, repeat, we have contact, on our actua position, be alert to our channel, over) the sargeant is heard among the bullets flying around.

A lot of "reddies" found them and all of the partisans on the sorrunding area are joining the battle.

-Sargeant! call for an extraction! we can't handle this.
*Sarge try to call, but now the signal is lost, a bullet destroyed the Antenna*
+Sir, our antenna is fucked, I'll send the coordinates by radiobeaco... *the sargeant drop himself to the ground and start doing strange sounds*
1 minute after:
-Sargeant why the hell you last this mu... *captain realize the sargeant is dead, he has a hole where there use to be a nose*

-Regroup guys! *he ordered*

5 minutes later:

two more guys are injured and the captain try to communicate with the command post but is impossible, then artillery fire start to hit them...
after 3 minutes under artillery fire, the hill, is on a strange silence...
the reddies finally reached the top, to find all the Baldelunan forces in the ground, some of them without a body parts, the captain is broken by the middle, he is instantaneously shot... only three soldiers survived the hell, they were captured, and taken to an unknown location.

Meanwhile recon helicopters were sent to see what happened to the group, only to deal with a curtain of bullets and rockets, too risky to be there. at 2035 hours, just a few hours before the operation HASPA start, intelligence service, inform the general Zenobe about a horrible new:

pictures of bodies on the hill where they gave their last informed location, and a video of the three captured Baldelunan soldiers, tortured just to say their names, threatening Baldelunan government that if they don't stop their support to imperialist party and leave Shiinra in peace, each one of them will be burnt to death. all of this available on internet, also to motivate communist supporters, showing how "invincible¨they are.

This time is personal

Zenobe oreder to don't say anything to the troops about the disaster.

2300 hours, missiles are launched from the ships to Shiinraan lands, specially near the areas where the Baldelunan special forces were killed. the Operation HASPA begun

0000 hours, Baldelunan helicopters and landing ships are fast approaching the the safer beach, helicopters recieving heavy fire from the ground, but still able to drop troops, 5 minutes later landing ships entered the beach.

0130 hours, after a intense firefight, and more and more reinforcements joining, Baldelunan troops stablished a perimeter of 3 km around the beach, troops are ordered to stop and to protect the landing of the remaining force, 21 casualties and 13 injured, (reddies troops casualties are unknow)

0455 hours, armoured assets join the operation, Baldelunans ae ordered to advance: 43 casuaties and 24 injured.

0703 hours, the firefight is reduced to only a few skirmishes, beach is secured, and Baldelunan troops stablished a perimeter of 10 km arounf the beach, ingeneer engineers corps finally landed to start the construction of the firsts barracks, HQ and defensive positions as well a heliports, operation HASPA, is a success, the orders now are to be in a defensive attitude. and prohibit the pass of any Shiinraan citizen until a new order, soliders are just giving the first informs about Shiirnaan communists casualties, and Baldeluna present 47 casualties and 30 injured until that moment, the Baldelunan Spot is 78 km east from the city of "Al Kumer".

A call for our brothers in arms

Baldelunan goverment now has two missions, the capture of the communist city of "Al Kumar" to give it back to the imperialist and hold it until the conflict is over, and the rescue of the three Baldelunan Spacial operators. The reason why Ground army cónsul is asking the goverments of Korosue, Merala, and Shiinraan imperialist party to help Baldelunan effort of rescuing the three operators captured, in an unknown location and only knowing they are captured.

Meralans Begin Searching In The Sand

Meralan troops scouting the desert for communists

Meralan forces have begun entering the desert, scouting the several villages for communists and securing them from said foe. The military have been launching scout drones as well, with none so far being taken down by reds.

A Tifir being deployed to the West.

The navy has deployed a small fleet to assist the Imperialists in securing Al Kumer, Shiinraa's largest industrial city, home to most of the weapons industry but also home to a working class majority, likely to collaborate with the communist cause. And from Tafar, KCs-777 transport crafts have been deployed, alongside security escort, in order to secure Bardaj in Southern Shiinraa and to protect Karukastan from fleeing communist militias.

Image
One of the KCs-777 deployed to Bardaj.

The military has also accepted to assist in the Baldelunan plea for help and has also sent reinforcements to specifically backup the Baldelunans, a nation that Merala shares a lot of history in spite of the sea between us.

The Imperialists have crushed the Communists, there are still some Communist stragglers but not enough to be a threat. Haythem Karim with the support of Merala and Baldeluna was able to take Al Kumer and surrounding cities while defeating the remaining Communists. However Faisel Zaman was nowhere to be found, it is likely he fled the country. Haythem did not worry, Faisel had no more power. The new threat to the Imperialists is the Sultan’s Army which is on the verge of taking Arkeh, the capital city. Haythem needed the aid of Merala and Baldeluna to defeat the Sultan’s Party with their allies; Korouse and Igoria. Now the common enemy, the Communists, was done for it is now for the Sultan’s Party and the Imperialist Party to clash in an even bigger war to determine the fate of Shiinraa.

Haythem is now directing all of his forces at Arkeh to keep the Sultan’s Army from taking the capital. The Sultan’s army already has much control of the cities near Arkeh so that is where Haythem is going to attack first, then surround the city of Arkeh. If Haythem’s plan is successful then Shiinraa will fall to Imperialism. If the Sultan’s Army manages to hold back the Imperialist onslaught then Shiinraa’s Sultanate will be restored and built to be more fair to prevent another insurgency.

Meralans launching an Artufat suicide drone to hunt Faisel Zaman

The military has announced that it will begin to purse the Communist Leader Faisel Zaman in order to avoid another communist insurgency in the region. Several "suicide drones", UAVs loaded with explosives have been deployed to scout the area to find and terminate Zaman on sight. Another measure undertaken to catch this man is the deployment of several Tifir drones and Afalku observation helicopters to the mountain ranges south of Shiinraa.

Troops in the outskirts of secured Barjat

The Army has announced that it has successfully secured Barjat with "little to no trouble, with just some lightly wounded soldiers who were surprised by malfunctioning booby traps", however, the town was gained by spilling communist blood, and several troops have reported the encounters "rather bloody...for them". A manhunt for Faisel Zaman has initiated in the area, and several platoons are rushing to the border, in order to secure it from any fleeing militias.

One of the many Ilus inbound to Arkeh

Several Ilu helicopters supplied with troops are heading to Arkeh in order to secure the Shiinraan capital and to put an end to the insurgency, however, several drones have been sent first in order to scout and secure the landing areas, some even claim that Agezzar strike air-crafts were deployed too to do this, but the air force is neither denying nor confirming this rumour. Units are expected to arrive "very soon" and some see they will spend a lot of time deployed in this city in order to maintain order.

A detailed account of the Korousean and Shinraan defense against Imperialist forces on the 11th of September, 2015. Written on the 13th of September, 2015

Kriegsmarine-Kampfgruppe Sultanat, Al Zuyah, Just outside of Arkeh
Taken from the Journal of Hauptmann George Rauscher, Panzergenadier 5. Abteilung; 6th Support Company

This had been the first time may of us had been to Shinraa, and I don't think we were quite prepared for the trip either. The lot of us, of course, had been used to what we call "heat" - 35 to 38 Degrees, but holy shit, apparently the weather when we were given a go to land was 44. In the moment, I didn't complain too much as I was busy getting orders and giving them. My company's job was to defend the left flank of the main road leading into the town from the east, should it ever come under attack. Of course, at the time, we all expected some very light resistance. In fact, we just expected a few A&B trucks with HMGs mounted to them.

We traveled down the main road, noticing only tiny reminders of what the town might've looked like. I recall ransacked shops, trash everywhere, and what seemed to be bullet holes as we moved up dismounted from our IFVs. I decided our position was going to be just beyond where the town stopped, with buildings back behind us so our machine guns could have a good view over the sand. As it nearly hit night time, I ordered by men to dig up trenches and a few hull-down positions for our IFVs and the tank Platoon. We had them built in 2-3 hours, getting done at about 10 PM. After that, I considered it an opportune time for some of my men to get some rest - we had been up for a good whole day.

In the early morning, the scope of what we were actually dealing with was revealed when I was informed by Lieutenant Colonel Maximilien, my Commanding Officer. He told me (and the other Company head officers) via radio that Loyalist scouts had reported armour, artillery, and infantry - not in the direction of Arkeh - but to Al Zuyah. I'm guessing they were extremely close, as the tone of his voice was that of utmost urgency, as if he had been caught off-guard. Naturally, I immediately jolted up from the dug-up my HQ platoon made, immediately directing my men to proper positions and informing my Lieutenants of the news.

His tone was all in all, completely justified. 10 minutes after getting us properly set up, their artillery started bombarding to our mid-left. Their shots were few and far (probably because they were ranging shots), barely getting close enough to our trenches to make my troops feel the need to duck. The first real contact came shortly thereafter, with a column of about 10 T-56As. They emerged just out of the dunes, poking their guns out and trying their best to hide their frontal armor as the turret was their best bet to glance a shot. When I noticed their movements through my binoculars I realized these were people who actually had some kind of formal tank training. I informed my IFVs not to launch their ATGMs, as my light tanks had the accuracy and the penetration to take them out with their guns, and a valuable resource such as those missiles couldn't be wasted.

The inaccuracy of their guns gave us a clear advantage. At the range they were firing at, they were better off firing HE to maybe catch some of my infantry. Though, I assumed their goal was not to properly engage, but to act as some kind of artillery spotter and maybe some kind of ammunition sponge (the sponge part of course being unbeknownst to them). Their artillery shots frequently inched closer to our actual positions, with some straying off way into the part of town just behind us. Eventually it became actual threat, just as reinforcements came.

The reinforcements consisted of quite a lot more tanks, along with troops mounted to old Groznyjan APCs and IFVs. The situation had just turned extremely urgent, as my position was in grave danger of being overrun by a mass of turban-wearers, which wouldn't look good on record (I'm slightly joking). I grabbed the radio and authorized use of ATGMs, as artillery shells raining down and peppering our position. I shouted to the Heavy Machine Gun squad in front of me to get to a better position, as they were limited in their view. I motioned them to the second-story of a building which I noticed had slightly damaged wall, giving them the order "Tear it down"

They immediately knew what I was talking about. The weight and general sturdiness of the MG-3H made it renowned for being a great battering ram, as well as a very good "advancement deterrent" when it fired. The squad of maybe 3 to 5 men (it all gets a little hazy for me during this part) ran up to the second story and immediately started breaking a big enough opening in the cinderblock for them to fire. As they were setting up, I immediately returned to the radio, checking up on the status of my platoon commanders and observing the battle through my binoculars.

We were, for all intents and purposes, pinned down - but we were still holding them back. Their motorized units would be absolutely peppered by small arms fire; making a very interesting display of sparks and completely tearing said vehicle apart. Had there not been such a heavy artillery contingent brought to assist their armored forces, I can assure anyone that our Company would not have taken the amount of casualties it did. I very frequently requested air support, receiving the same answer each time; "We're too tied up". I believe if not for some stroke of luck, we would've been overrun. Thankfully, it didn't happen, but that could've been the single greatest fuck up we could've committed.

After cursing out the air squadron assigned to our Kampfgruppe; the 15th Fighter-Bomber Squadron, I only remember a tan haze and a loud ringing. The next thing I remember was waking up in one hell of a dust storm while in my platoon's trench, medsquad over me. I immediately pushed some of them aside and put on my face mask, looking out toward the field. To my awe, I saw the biggest black cloud I think I've ever seen, with pillars of smoke coming out of fires and rising all along our front. I immediately turned around to my Senior NCO, asking "How many did we lose."

A coughing and tired Sergeant Major Irvwin replied "About 30, 40 Sir. We haven't done a proper coun-", he said while trying not to cough, "We haven't done a proper count, sir, but we know 2 of our tanks and 5 of our IFVs got really fuc-, I mean, messed up sir."

Looking over my shoulder slightly and leaning up against the trench I said, "I guess we killed a fuckton more, eh?". Especially emphasising "fuckton" to poke fun at him being pedantic.

After the sandstorm ended, we were given endless praise by Loyalist forces as well as our own. Most counts of enemy casualties were numbers exceeding 500 individual men dead, along with 20-30 Imperialist tanks knocked out before the retreated due to the sandstorm. My company, as my Senior NCO said, had 2 critically damaged light tanks which were mostly knocked out due to the crews abandoning them after repeated penetrations and lack of ammo. Along with this there was a loss of about 10 IFVs, suffering the same problems as the light tanks. Our biggest loss, though, was 43 infantrymen, out of 215 strong company.

The Sultan’s Party has finally managed to take Arkeh, in good time too. If it took the Sultan’s Party had took any longer then they would be surrounded by Imperialists. However, the Sultan’s Party did not have time to fortify the city before the Imperialist's deadly artillery had arrived. This led to the destruction of the entire outskirts of Arkeh and the death of many Sultan’s Army soldiers. The rest of the capital managed to survive the onslaught due to the more sturdy buildings in the center of the city. The Sultan’s Army managed to hold the Green Square and the Grand Palace from the bulk of Imperialist forces.

More Imperialist reinforcements were on their way and the Sultan’s Army is losing its morale. Ghaali managed to keep the Sultan’s Army together and even formulate an effective plan to get rid of the Imperialist reserves. Ghaali’s idea was to send a fleet of ships containing half of his forces. The fleet was sent to Al Kumer to eliminate the Imperialist reserves. The plan was a great success, however, the Imperialists were still was sending all its forces to Arkeh and the Sultan’s Army is at half strength.

The fate of Shiinraa will be determined by this final clash at Arkeh between the Imperialists supported by Merala and Baldeluna against the Sultan’s Army with support from Igorian vehicles and a handful Korousean Marines.

Arkeh, Shiinraa
Transport plane skidded to a halt on the dusty runway of the dilapidated airfield just outside of Arkeh. Scores of soldiers hopped out. Many had looks of awe on their faces. Though they had seen pictures and read books about deserts, and studied them in Primary School geography, most of these men had never seen one. It awed them as much as the great mountains of Vanet or the seemingly boundless Tyrophelian awed a person beholding them for the first time. It seemed alien, like the surface of another planet, the set of some great cosmic opera. After the initial awe had overcome them, the soldiers remembered their orders and set out in a long column, lugging their bags and weapons with them, off to the small cluster of buildings near the airfield.
There, hundreds of soldiers and their IFVs had already gathered, the men of the 100th Air Assault Battalion. A pair of M-28 attack helicopters that had been transported in one of the planes were being fuelled up. Some soldiers were joking and talking, while others were trying to acclimatise themselves to the punishing heat. Some fanned themselves vigorously with whatever they could find, while others simply lay on the ground, having stripped themselves of most of their heavy gear. All knew that their marching orders would arrive sooner or later, and they seized this opportunity to simply chill.

The Brigade and Battalion commanders had set themselves up in one of the buildings. A fan had been set up, giving the officers relief from the oppressive heat. They rolled out a good old-fashioned map with arrows and began to discuss strategy. The Brigade commander, Colonel Anastasios Semonidos, looked over the maps and spoke.
"Gentlemen, we have two objectives before us. Firstly, and most importantly, is the defence of Arkeh's main harbour, as well as it's airfields, located to our northeast. Why, you may ask, is our main priority the defence of this harbour? Because it eases the 9th Grenadier Division's landing tenfold. They will be able to disembark their largest transport ships directly instead of loading everything onto smaller landing craft and then disembarking. The airfields will provide our air support with a base in Shiinraa from which to launch their sallies. Control of the port and airfields will also make the constant resupply of both our brigade and the Grenadiers, as well as our Korousean allies, all that much easier. Therefore it is of paramount importance that these objectives be held. Clear?"
"Yes, sir." The assembled officers nodded.
"Excellent. Our second, yet nonetheless important objective, is the defence of the city itself. The city holds limited strategic value to us per se, but it provides our allies the Sultanate with significant political standing and a certain governmental legitimacy. If the city is lost, 20,000 reinforcements from Igoria should be more than enough to recapture it, plus the regrouped Sultan's Army and whatever Korousean reinforcements that do arrive." The colonel paused, took a sip of water, and continued, "Our defensive sector includes the city's southwestern suburbs and the countryside around there, plus the harbour and the airfields, which can be held with smaller garrisons and retreated to should the need arise. I want particular emphasis on anti-tank defences. Our air contingent should dominate the skies, and we haven't really had any reports of aviation been used by either Shiinraan side. If you take a look at the map, gentlemen, you will see a precise depiction of your battalions' dispositions. Any questions?"
No-one spoke. At last, a timid Staff Captain asked, "Sir, what if the Imperialists are to break through?"
"If they do, we can retreat and use our reserve to eliminate any breakthrough. But they won't. I hear a single Korousean company held off an armoured regiment. It'll take more than a Corps to break our brigade!"
A rousing cheer went up from the officers.
"Good luck, gentlemen. Get your men to their positions. For the Emperor. For Igoria." The Colonel saluted, and the assembled commanders did the same, before filing out and getting their men to marching formation.

Glopurg, Imperial High Command
The Minister of Defence Maurice Ricimer was not usually particularly active around the General Staff. His duties as Minister of Defence were, after all, more administrative, revolving around arms production, research and development, recruiting, supplying, training, equipping and quartering troops and so forth rather than actively planning operations, particularly not ones that involved a single division and a brigade. However, still not entirely able to put his old reputation to rest, Ricimer used his higher rank and station to keep himself in the loop.
"Can you give me a precise report, Glagstone?" Field Marshal Maurice Ricimer, the Minister of Defence, demanded from the Chief of the General Staff.
"I can't at the moment." the older man responded, "At least, nothing too precise. We know that the 9th Grenadier Division and all their heavy equipment are a day away from Arkeh, and Colonel Semonidos says that he has set up near their capital. The Imperialists have begun a mass assault on the city, supported by heavy shelling of the suburbs. Brutal close quarters fighting ensured, and the Imperialsts pushed on to the city centre. However, I am told they were repulsed and the Sultan's army is regrouping. Overall, the defence has held well, with both the Sultan's forces and the Imperialists suffering heavy casualties. Particularly noted should be the valour of the Korousean 6th support company, which held off and defeated a substantial number of Imperialist tanks and infantry."
"So things are looking good?" Ricimer asked.
"For the nonce, I would say so." General of the Army Glagstone said, "Both sides have been exhausted by the savage fighting, and both have taken heavy casualties. However, without substantial reinforcement, I believe that a definite victory against the Imperialists is unlikely to be achieved unless they themselves withdraw. The 9th Grenadiers will provide us with said reinforcements. Once they arrive, the Division's commander Major-General Sporis will take overall command of all of our troops there."

In Transit to Shiinraa

The TTP-3 sailed through the sky on the way to Shiinraa. In the transport were three Landerziehungsberechtigten squads, each equipped with their appropriate weapons. The three squads were ahead of their IRFS counterparts, who were arriving via transport ships. They were being sent late in the insurgency due to Arbiter Victoria wanting to watch to see what would happen. However, she eventually ordered a task force of 2 800 men battalions and three Landerziehungsberechtigten squads to assist the Sultanate army try and gain control of Shiinraa again. As the TTP-3 neared Shiinraa, the troops began their preparations for disembarking.

"Hey, lieutenant, what's the status of Shiinraa?" One of the soldiers in the plane asked. The soldier, a new Landerziehungsberechtigten recruit was busy checking his gear over making sure he had everything he needed. The soldiers around him were doing the same. Checking gear, cleaning guns just in case, and adjusting their BDUs for the drop.

"Well, all I've been informed is that their capital of Arkeh is under heavy artillery fire, and that the forces of the Sultan's army are holding off the Imperialists as best as they can." The lieutenant said over the roar of the engine.

"Aren't the Korouseans and Igorians assisting the Sultan's army? Why are they having difficulties?" The recruit asked.

"Because they didn't have enough time to fortify before being attacked by the Imperialists. That's why we're here. To help those sons-of-bitches fight the artillery and defend Arkeh so we can keep the current government in power." The lieutenant said, slamming a clip into his rifle. The lieutenant's patch on his right arm revealed he was in the 113th Landerziehungsberechtigten Squad known as "Sailing Bears", know for being fast and powerful. During the Icrumese rebellion, they ambushed out a convoy of 5 APCs and 30 rebels and defeated them within 30 minutes. Granted, they lost their sniper, but they still managed to defeat them. The recruit look at the lieutenant in a sense of awe. Here, a great soldier was going to lead the three squads to try and defeat the Imperialists at Arkeh.

"We are approaching the drop area." The pilot announced to the troops inside the TTP-3.

"Alright men! Let's go show those Imperialist bastards what it means to fight a war!" The lieutenant yelled as the back hatch to the plane was opened. With a swift motion of his hand, the Lieutenant ordered the troops to jump.

"All squad leaders, converge your squads on me." The lieutenant said over his radio. The squads were only a few yards apart, but they needed to converge for the two hour march east to Arkeh. There they hoped to meet the troops and help drive the Imperialist out of the city. Within a minute the three squads had convened on each other and began their march towards Arkeh.

"Sir, why did the Arbiter send just three squads of us to Shiinraa. Doesn't it seem like a gross misuse of valuable resources? I mean, they send fourteen Landerziehungsberechtigten and only one-thousand and six-hundred troops. That doesn't seem like enough. I feel like we should've at least sent in five thousand troops." The recruit asked.

"Because it's pretty close anyways, all we need to do is tip the scales enough, and if sixteen hundred troops are enough, then it's enough. As for us, we're here to inspire our troops. Fighting in a war miles from home in a radically different climate from what you're used to and asked to fight for a government that you don't know is a sketchy proposition. So, as long as we fight, the troops will fight. We're their beacon of hope, if we can do it, then so can they." The lieutenant said. Soon, that's all the soldier s will be doing, fighting. They just gritted and pushed on, hoping to be there in time to help stop the enemy advances.

Heiden, Korouse; The Chancellory
It had been a chaotic debate between Grau, the Korousean General Staff, and the mostly free-thinking Staatmarschall Erich Kessler. It eventually gave way to an uneasy silence, until Grau decided to re-affirm his point.
"Maintaining military presence in Shinraa, long-term, to assert ourselves AND our allies as the main military dominators, will prove beneficial in every way to the growth of our nation gentlemen." he said, especially emphasizing the words after the pauses in his sentences. "The Igorians are doing it too. Now, do we really want to be second place?"
General Stennham let out a quiet breath, and repeated what he had said previously, "The Korousean Military, ever since the start of the modern age, has never been a force to occupy. It has been for the most part a force of pure aggression and destruction. Not to police, not to guard, but to conquer and subdue. That's how it's always been for over 200 years."
One of the Admirals apart of the staff nodded, saying "If we were to commit these resources overseas it would also require more capital to be devoted to our Navy. At this current moment, we're not quite the best Logistically. I think this applies strongly to the Army and the Navy."
Stennham turned his head back to Chancellor Grau after turning to the Admiral to hear him speak, "Chancellor, we've perfected the art of which we operate on - this is not a job for the Military, it's a job for the Politician."
"Alright." Erich Kessler said as he leaned in, the opposite end of the table from Grau, with his forearms on the table, "This Staff is dismissed. We'll reconvene tomorrow, same time as it was today."

They all sat up. The General Staff and Erich Kessler saluted eachother. They walked out, as Kessler sat down to talk to Grau.
He took a deep breath and looked across the table to Grau.
"So," Grau sipped some water from a glass, "Status of the Third Fleet? I've heard our men of Sultanat have taken some heavy losses, I'd prefer their job to be done."
"The Third have pulled from Kastovakia, and the Second Marine Division are nearly prepped to go to Shinraa." Erich said, leaning back in his chair. It had been a long night and the two men were rather tired from the strenuous activity of arguing with stubborn military officials.
"How about the Igorians, what's their plan so far?" as Grau sipped his water again
"They've decided to secure the airfields and the port with one of their own rapid deployment forces, as to support capability of reinforcement and supply. As we speak one of their Mechanized Divisions is on their way to Arkeh."
"Pssh." Erich scoffed, "I'm sure this'll be quite an uneventful war, lest they stop trying to run at us with their obsolete tanks thinking their snake God will protect them."
"Well, I bet our troops aren't really asking for a more strategically-minded opponent." Grau looked over to Erich whilst reviewing Navy budget reports.
"I'm just saying, these 'Imperialists' have the perfect formula to make us pull out, Josef."
"Well alright." the Chacellor said, getting up from his chair, "I'll be retiring for now, g'night." leaving Kessler to look over plans in the war room.

It's rumored he acquired a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 in his study that night.

Skies above Arkeh, Shinraa
Leutnant Dietrich Kohl was given the task of patrolling the skies of Arkeh for any supplies being dropped in under night cover. Naturally, the 25 year old was nervous. A few seconds could dictate whether he caused an international incident or not. The fact that since Korousean Air Power was spread thin and meant he was alone didn't help either. After an hour of patrolling in the night with his Str. 29, he spotted what seemed to be a cargo plane on his radar. The young pilot immediately descended down to the unknown plane's altitude, slowing down to match their speed and coming from above. As the pilot neared the plane, he could make out what seemed to be Meralan markings with his Night Vision. He steadily creeped to the side of the transport and rocked his wings - a common sign to alert the intercepted plane that they were intercepted. Kohl immediately contacted and alerted his command,
"This is Echo 3 to AC, we have a Meralan Transport. Currently uncooperative with commands to follow." Dietrich said over his radio.
"AC to Echo 3, hail again to reassure."
Dietrich again rocked his wings and flashed his lights to alert the pilots. Five minutes went by with no response.
"Echo 3 to AC, no response. Further instruction?"
"Authorization to weapons live. Put a few rounds into their engines and return. Do not, I repeat, do not shoot them down. Your mission is over after this."
The pilot hesitated and reluctantly flipped the switch to ready his 20mm rotary cannon and pulled away from the aircraft to get distance. At about 300 meters, he aimed for one of the engines of the aircraft. He took a deep breath and slightly tapped the trigger, sending out a short beam of tracers into the Meralan transport's left engine. Dietrich pulled off, eyeing the now smoking aircraft. Dietrich thinking it was returning to its base, It banked right, and Dietrich toward the direction of LHD Ubersee, the ship most Korousean Airpower was assigned to.

The Battle of Arkeh went on for many days, at first it seemed that a victory for the Imperialists was assured but to the Sultan’s Army’s luck they were granted assistance from Icrum as well as more Igorian and Korousean reinforcements. The Sultan’s Army had held Arkeh and kept the Imperialists out of it. However, Ghaali, leader of the Sultan’s Army, had neglected to remember that the Imperialists are centered in Bardaj, not Al Kumer. The next goal of the Sultan’s Army and its allies are to invade Bardaj in hopes of finally killing Haythem Karim, leader of the Imperialists, and ending the insurgency. The Sultan’s Army is expecting heavy resistance on the way to Bardaj so it will take a while for the Sultan’s Army to regain the strength, Ghaali advises all allies of the Sultan’s Army to expect large Imperialists forces if they wish to make an early skirmish. A naval invasion is not an option for Bardaj as it would be for Arkeh or Al Kumer. Merala also has much of its forces stationed in Bardaj.

A battle in Bardaj will be very difficult due to the city’s 30(9 meter) foot tall walls and explosives will not be an option for an attack on Bardaj as it may damage the large amount of crops kept at Bardaj as it is the only major city in Shiinraa that can sustain crops. Destroying the crops at Bardaj will cause many Shiinraans to starve all over the country. Ghaali suggests a hard and fast attack on Bardaj. The 30 foot walls will prevent any ground fire and it is likely that the Imperialists will have much of its artillery stationed near the wall so it is advised to get as close to the walls as possible to avoid artillery. The only way into Bardaj is either the northern or southern gate. The northern gate will be more fortified because that is were an attack is most likely, the alternative is the southern gate. The southern gate is not as fortified but it will take longer to reach and there is always a chance that the Imperialists will set out mines on the edges of the walls.

One Bird Down, Bardaj Finishes Militarising

The crashed vessel, shot down by Korouse and destroyed by its occupants

Controversy has erupted over the crash of a KC-777 that was shot down by Korousan forces overnight. The craft thankfully was mostly empty, as it was sent to recover spare supplies and troops from Arkeh to Bardaj, in order to prepare the city for an expected attack. The craft was flown by experienced pilot Amasan Yacine and co-pilot Ziri Mukhtar, both who survived the crashed mostly unscratched. They reported to have escaped and purposely have destroyed the aircraft to avoid it being captured and salvaged by enemy forces, mainly Sultanists. The pilots were eventually rescued by an Ilu, 90 kilometres from Arkeh, far from the crash site after taming some wild camels.

The military is currently considering to change its policy of only applying deadly force to the main targets established to being eradicated, in this case, Communists and Sultanists, but not its collaborators, in this case, Korousean military (although the military has engaged them in Arkeh, they were considered optional targets and were mostly ignored and avoided in order to prevent a conflict with Korouse and its allies.

As stated by sergeant major Ziri Yazine:

"The Meralan way of war historically has often being of self-defence and requested intervention, with the supporters of one side not being targeted for destruction", stated the aged sergeant who too has written The Hidden Blade, An Analysis Of Meralan Military History. "Sure, we have engaged the enemy's allies before, but only if it has been proved necessary, we often seek a low amount of casualties when dealing with hostile collaborators in order to avoid conflict with another power that we do not have the intention or the need to subdue in order to reach our goals".

The military is not willing to reveal its new stance until a new decision has been reached after in-depth tactical analysis. However, the army has revealed however, the fruits of Bardaj's militarisation, in order to defend the city from Sultanists and any hostile elements that has interest in the city currently holding Haythem Karim, the Imperialist leader.

Meralans about to establish a watchtower in Bardaj

The army has revealed it has constructed several watchtowers and gun nests around the historical Bardaji Wall, with several snipers and machine guns covering several strategic areas to mow down any intruders. The army has too reported that the gates are being secured with anti-infrantry and anti-vehicle artillery and that, has set explosives in the gates, in order to forcefully isolate the city should the defences are overrun. Anti-air guns have too laid out in most of the tall buildings inside Bardaj.

Image
Soldiers detaining Sultanist sympathisers

And finally, the armed forces have begun detaining several Sultanist and Communist sympathisers, with the more hostile being executed at the hands of the Imperialists. The army has being imprisoning the rest on several ruined towers, filled with explosives, in order to avoid any escape attempts or rescue attempts in the upcoming fire-fight.

Outposts have been constructed as well outside of the city walls and any bridges leading to the city have strict checkpoints and are ready to be destroyed in the future Battle of Bardaj. Reinforcement camps are scattered alongside the south the city, outside the walls, and several locals claim a secret tunnel has been dug in order to provide fresh troops during the fight, some even say that tanks and even trucks can pass through these tunnels, with this photograph being spread over the internet regarding this issue:

The alleged tunnel

Several soldiers deny the existence of a tunnel, but do confirm there is a "classified way of entering the city during the fight".

1st Company, 112th Armoured Battalion, 9th Grenadier Battalion, Central Shiinraa
It had been a glorious fight, Captain John Batiates recalled as he rode atop his CIV-3 IFV, warily surveying the desert around him. His vehicle overtook a column of Basileus 2 tanks, also heading south.
The Imperialists had tried to break through to the harbour, and the Airborne troops stood in their way. John had not witnessed the attack himself, as his unit, part of the 9th Grenadier Division, had arrived later in the fight. But those Airborne troops with whom he had had a chance to talk told one hell of a tale: how entire battalions of T-56 tanks had rolled forward, firing their guns, followed by Imperialist infantry on foot, how M-28 helicopters and V-25 ground attack aircraft had made pass after pass, raining missiles and cluster bombs on the attacking Imperialists. Fighting raged on for the entire day and well into the night, and the Imperialists had taken heavy losses. Nonetheless, the armoured assault overwhelmed the first line of defence through sheer weight of numbers, and under cover of dark the majority of the Igorian soldiers had pulled back to the next village, the next ridge, the second line of defence, and the Imperialists had began regrouping their men to attack again in the morning.
Things had looked bleak.
And then John's unit had joined the fight, the 1st Company of the 112th Armoured Battalion of the 9th Grenadier Division. The roar of Basileus 2 tanks and their smaller cousins, the I-90As, had deafened John, given heart to the Airborne soldiers and terrified the Imperialists. The fresh soldiers of the 9th Grenadier Division had cut through the attacking Imperialist forces like a knife through a butter. One Basileus 2 tank was lost, to dozens of enemy T-56s. Nonetheless, after the initial shock, the Imperialist resistance had stiffened. They had taken up defensive positions, reinforced with fresh tanks and infantry, but then news had come through that everywhere else in the city the Imperialists were withdrawing, as they had been unable to crush the Sultan's Army and the Korouseans elsewhere. All that faced them was the rearguard of their retreating foes. The news of victory had given heart to his men, and they attacked. Once they had broken through in one spot, they began to outflank the Imperialists and those had beaten a hasty retreat, fleeing south.
So that is where John and his unit must follow.

Headquarters of the Igorian Expeditionary Corps in Shiinraa, Central Shiinraa
Major-General Sporis sat in the back of his command APC, speeding off south. He had a radio and a map through which he could coordinate the movement of his division and their subordinate Airmobile Brigade. All in all, he had about 25,000 men at his disposal. Sporis knew the objective of the Sultan's Army: to capture the city of Bardaj, then major stronghold of the Imperialists and their allies, Merala. Intel and general knowledge told Sporis that the city was surrounded by a tall stone wall, which made taking it by storm supposedly harder. But Sporis knew better. Stone walls had been obsolete since the invention of artillery in the middle ages.
Reconnaissance claimed that the Imperialists and Meralans were fortifying the city, preparing themselves for an assault. But Sporis was not interested in throwing his troops into action. He had plenty of artillery and plenty of air support. He would level the city walls, level the defences, and only then throw his men into action in support of the main effort conducted by the Sultan's Army.
Sporis's APC slowed down as they neared a village. A check-point had been set up on the main road through the village, and the APC pulled up to it. Sporis and his men got out and approached the checkpoint. A tall, thin Sultanate soldier surveyed the Igorian general.
"Security pass, please." He said in a thick accent.
That took Sporis aback. He didn't have any security pass. "Do you know who I am?" He asked instead.
The Shiinraan shrugged. "Somebody who is trying to get past my checkpoint, so show me your papers."
Sporis said coldly, "I am Major-General Sporis of the Igorian Imperial Army, commander of the 9th Grenadier Division."
The soldier took a step back.
"So let me through." He continued, "Otherwise, when we lose this battle because I wasn't at the right place at the right time, I will personally refer you to your command as the culprit."
The soldier saluted awkwardly. "My mistake, Your Excellency." He waved to his men manning the checkpoint and shouted something in Shiinraan. The barrier swung up, clearing the way. Sporis got back into his APC, and his driver carefully negotiated a passage through the concrete slabs that blocked half the road.
Once they were past, they were free, speeding south towards Bardaj in the wake of the advancing tanks and mechanised troops.

BREAKING NEWS: HAYTHEM KARID DEAD

Postby Merala » Sun Sep 27, 2015 6:25 pm

Haythem Karid was found dead inside his safehouse in Bardaj, with a sting on his right tight, in what appears like a swollen bug bite. In spite of appearing like a coincidental death, many believe he was assassinated, but a lack of evidence apart for a suspiciously sharp umbrella found 1 kilometre from the residence, inside a sewer it was clogging in a humble neighbourhood of the city.

The military is surprised by this move and is considering withdrawing from Shiinraa and recognising and apologising to the Sultanist forces, however, there are conflicted opinions with this option, since Faisel Zaman was never captured, and he is likely to raise another militia from the sand. Nonetheless, the government has not released any statement regarding the subject, neither there are intentions to set a referendum regarding this.

However, troops are begining to retire, and to dismantle several key fortifications that were constructed for the awaited assault and to cancel several others, including mining of an area 100 kilometres from the city and removing several outposts established in the outskirts and the back. Some Ilus are taking flights back and forth from Bardaj to Tafar, retiring troops and personnel, but these are not widespread extractions as the amount of soldiers leaving is still minimal. However, several other locations are not being retired, these in specific being those near the Meralan border, due suspicion that Zaman might be operating here.

Several members of the Imperialist Army have gone rogue and abandoned the city, with unknown destinations, whilst others have given up on the cause due the fact that a successor has not being assigned or arisen. The military has recognised that some units have left, but urges the remaining to stay, in order to avoid the anarchy that will be unleashed between renegade Imperialists and other factions in the city, and to avoid mass killings of prisoners that have been transferred to smaller towns in order to prevent this. As such, patrols are more often, and Imperialists are encouraged to go home.
