ALTAME Military Exercises (IC, MT/PMT, Invite Only)

[Esgonia]

Welcome to the first annual ALTAME military exercises, hosted by the Armed Forces of the Esgonian Federation. This is where the signatory member nations of the MDP and the USEA show their military capabilities and willingness to cooperate with each other to defeat their enemies. This exercise will mostly focused on ground warfare. It will be hosted in the Altaz region in the western part of Esgonia. The OPFOR for this mission will comprise of elite forces from the USEA.

This exercise will come in two stages:

Stage 1 of the exercise will involve learning how to hold strategical positions around the area as well as learning how to clear out buildings effectively. The forces will have to adapt and use the environment and their surroundings to their advantage, as well as learning how to use Breach and Clear methods to clear out structures.

Phase 2 of the exercise will deal with armored warfare strategies. tank crews from both nations will taught about the the ins and outs of armored combat while also telling weak points of various tanks as well. Afterwards both nations will team up with civilians in a nearby town for an evacuation drill and urban combat training, the evacuation phase is estimated to last 3 hours.

This exercise will last for 2-3 days.

302nd Armored Brigade

Day 1 0800 Hours

Now entering Esgonian airspace were the Urranese soldiers of the 302nd Armored Brigade. One C5 and four C17 cargo aircraft began approach over the mountainous region of the country, flying at high altitude and skirting around the more prominent land features.

"Dagger Flight to Tower, Dagger Flight to Tower. This is Urranese Dagger Flight requesting vector to landing strip for military exercises, over?" the pilot of the lead plane said in a heavy Asian accent.

The island country saw this as a golden opportunity to learn from other armed forces and forge potential alliances. Urran was far removed from much of the world and thus had few allies. But those that it did have it possessed strong and vibrant relationships with. Esgonia seemed like a country that they could learn from and establish relationships with. This would prove to be an interesting experience.

12th Mechanized Battalion
Altaz Region, Esgonia
Day 1, 900 hours

The Unit begins to mobilize towards their objective, Silvat. Once there, the soldiers begin to dig up defensive positions, Stryker MGS's guard the outside of the perimeter of the town, and Machine guns are being placed on all sides. Several Mortar positions were also being constructed south side of the town to provide fire support. Ka-60's and AH-64D's were on standby mode to allow reconnaissance and support.
The Major then contacts the other allies to see how they are doing.

3rd Battalion, 21st Marine Division (Motorized)
Heading East from Cerran
0900 Hours

The long column of Patria AMVs, led by a company of Leopard 2s, roll down the Esgonian highway. They plan to set up a fluid defense position to the southeast of Cerran, ready to immediately respond to enemy thrusts. Another column, this one identical to the first, heads west, setting up a similar position on the other side of the city. The remaining FAP forces, 4 companies of Marines in their AMVs and 10 Leopard 2s as well as their support equipment, remain in the city, ready to reinforce any position in need of assistance.

302nd Armored Brigade
Outskirts, Merina
Day 1 0930

It was loud, quite loud actually, five heavy transports landing in one place all at once. Landing ramps were lowered and a number of armored vehicles, men, and helicopters were pulled from the massive bellies of the giant transport jets. They would remain where they were for the trip home, there would be no point in sending them back and wasting fuel.

It was mostly utility vehicles and IFVs, but also SPAAGs, MGS units, and a few APC's on top of three transport and three scout helicopters.

The Urranese soldiers were characterized by their short stature and blended language that sounded like a cross between Mandarin and Japanese, as well as their TAR-21 rifles, loaded up into vehicles and moved down the city center where they set up a few tents and placed the SPAAGs, forming HQ.

A few of the wheeled IFVs kept rumbling forward towards the outskirts of the city, from there they would fan out to the south west. Four of the tracked IFVs did the same, fanning out north west, trying their best not to frighten civilians.

The rest of the vehicles, and majority of the infantry, took up defensive positions inside the city, forming no less than three defense lines. They could continue to fall back as they were overrun if it came to that.

102nd Mechanized Battalion

Rattean Troops of the 102nd Mechanized Battalion has just entered Esgonian airspace. 2 C-130's and 5 Helicopters had began approaching the region flying at medium altitude.

Once the air convoy got close to the airfield one of the pilots radioed in to command at the airfield if they could land at the airstrip for the exercises that they were going to participate in. The 102nd had never been to esgonia before but have taken part in many raids and battles with esgonian troops from different divisions, the soldiers were excited as this would be the first major exercise they took part in. They saw this as an opportunity to learn from other nations and gain relations as well.

Rattean Troops of the 102nd Mechanized Battalion has just entered Esgonian airspace. 2 C-130's and 5 Helicopters had began approaching the region flying at medium altitude.

Tower allows the Rattean forces to land. The Armed Forces were glad they organized this exercise, to see what the participants are capable of.

Western Silvat
945 Hours

The 1st Foreign Division arrives in Silvat via CH-46's. They are composed of both Azen and Rattean soldiers. The Ratteans were excited for this exercise, as they can see their brothers fighting alongside them. The men then take their positions in building and houses, Sniper teams also hide behind foliage as their ghillie suits provide them the camouflage they need. 2 More Stryker MGS's arrive in the area from the main Highway, as they are being sent to defend the southern and western part of Silvat. If the OPFOR manages to overrun Silvat, they planned to fall back into Merina or to the forested areas near them.

Day 1 1015 Hours

With three of the KM1's dispatched into the more forested areas ahead of the other armored vehicles, acting as scouts, Colonel Xingke responded to the Esgonian commanders, signaling that the Urranese forces were ready to begin the exercise.

It was a small scale exercise to the Urranese, who were used to much more complex maneuvers with larger allied forces, but this presented an opportunity to learn how to fight a smaller scaled armored war, and in an urban environment.

One of the OH-1 scout helicopters was readied for take off, though it would not be airborne until the start of the operation.

Day 1, 945 Hours

Once they got the signal to land, the planes let down their gears and go to land. While the helicopters slowly land on the ground and open their side doors letting soldiers out. it took 5 minutes for all the soldiers and armor to leave the planes and gather together, Once all was gathers the tanks grouped into a convoy and started heading towards the town of Stalhorst. 10 IAV Stryker's began loading soldiers to head towards the city behind the armoured convoy

1st Rotary Scout Squadron

1015 Hours

Two FAP Marine Corps Ka-52 "Wani" attack helicopters spun up and took off, heading southwest towards the southern strike force which was now taking up temporary defensive positions. The helicopters would provide reconnaissance to the forces should they go on the offensive and take out key enemy armored attacks. Meanwhile, 3 LAV IIIs departed the FOB, heading towards the western strike force. They, too, would provide recon. But they would do it from stationary positions that overlook that battlefield, calling in enemy forces as they advance and make direction of counter-attacks more effective.

1st Foreign Division, and 12th Mechanized Battalion
Near Silvat
1030 hours

A small squad of 25 soldiers begin to hole up positions near where the enemy might be headed. Anti-Tank and Machine Gun emplacements were dug in while sniper teams hide in the forested areas, armed with suppressed Sniper Rifles.
Meanwhile, a pair of Flakpanzer Gepards move from across the highway to Silvat, positioning themselves on the edge and center of the city. The Stryker MGS's were also now placed in Positions at the entrances of the Town.

102nd Mechanized Battalion
Stalhorst, Esgonia
Day 1, 1045 hours

Once the convoy arrived in the town of Stalhorst, 10 engineers from the battalion began to place down sandbags and defenses. the tanks then began to spread around the town guarding each entrance of the town, while 2 helicopters spun around and took off towards the outskirts of the city along with a small vehicle to get in position for reconnaissance. The rest of the infantry began setting up defenses and anti-tank equipment around the town to hold off against whatever enemy they would face

Day 1, 0730

SSGT. Haborsk saluted his commander as he reported him and his men in for today's exercise. The two LKOV's were positioned on the outer ridge by the mountain just 2 miles north of Argai, where the unit's will grab them head towards the town of Argai (A tactic used by the BBG back in the 50s and 60s known as Stock Piling) At 0900 the unit would heli in over the mountain side and drop off 8 soldiers at the LKOVs while the other 4 would drop down into Argai and begin setting up defensive positions. They decided to push time to see how quickly and effectively they could set up a defensive position with only a few hours to do so before the enemy would make it's push.

As every BLUFOR's forces were placed, it was time for the OPFOR to make his move, 3 Majors, name Commander 31, 42, and 25, would be the leaders of the OPFOR unit attacking, setting up positions around the area, they proceed to mark and plan their moves.

OPFOR Unit 1
Somewhere near Stalhorst.
1200 hours

Commander 31 can see the town of Stalhorst using his binoculars from his command vehicle but far away for the enemy to spot him. It looks like Stalhorst is well guarded, he thought. Even their flanks are well defended. So, he decides to send 3 Challenger 2's to hit Stalhorst's right flank. 2 more on the left, while 3 more attacks Stalhorst from the center. With the cover of the armor, an assault force consisting of 3 BMP-3's and 2 more Challenger 2's cross the bridge and circle around to hit the town from the back while the enemy is focused on the armor. A mortar crew fires smoke rounds from across the river to block the enemy's view while 2 Hind-D's rappel 2 infantry attack forces near the town. Once the forces are on the ground, they assault the enemy positions with RPG's and get in buildings.

OPFOR Unit 2
Somewhere near Cerran
1200 hours

Commander 42, seeing that 31 has made their move, also joins in. Since the enemy was using heavy armor to defend the city, he chooses to stress them out. A mortar team fires smoke rounds on the city, then 2 Akatsiya's, protected by 2 Flakpanzer Gepards each and a small Anti-Tank team, fires artillery rounds on them non-stop. To engage the city, 2 attack forces have been formed out, first coming from Commander 31's position to flank their left side, and another one to hit them head on. Using 4 Challenger 2's and 5 Piranha III's each.

Southeast of Cerran
FAP East Unit

One of the Ka-52s, hovering at treetop level to avoid being spotted by AA, spots the enemy tanks and reports to the tank commanders. 5 Leopard 2s are dispatched to take care of the enemy vehicles, supported by 12 AMVs armed with TOW missiles. They begin engaging the targets once they are within 2 km, the Leopard 2s engaging with their 120mm L/55 guns and the AMVs with their TOW missiles. The Leopards score several hits on their targets, but only one penetrates. The penetrating "hit" was at the turret ring, "killing" the enemy vehicle. Two TOW missiles hit two of the Piranhas, "killing" them. Meanwhile, the Ka-52s begin to track where the artillery fire is coming from.

102nd Mechanized Battalion

While the units were attacking the city, one of the helicopters that were doing recon flew at medium altitude and began firing at the the BMP-3's. It began firing its machine guns at the BMP, seeing its bullets ricochet off the armor it then began firing its Rockets. All the rockets were fired and began hitting the earth around the BMP while one landed and penetrated its track. One the helicopter ran out of ammo it spun around and headed towards the town to re-arm.
The left flank was being attacked and the leopard 2's engaged the enemy Challenger 2's. Both sides had been firing at each other, One leopard Froundired a into the enemy's side armor, ricocheting. seeing as their shot had ricocheted the crew began moving back trying to get into cover when the tank was hit on its track immobilizing the tank. the commander then radioed in units to help repair the tank

Meanwhile, a Challenger 2 spots the immobilized Leopard 2 then aims at the back of the tank and fires.
Other Challenger 2's have proceeded to cross the river as the mortar team fires more smoke rounds to cover the advance.
The soldiers inside the immobilized BMP-3 gets out and storms the town alongside the assault team, entering buildings and clearing the area of Rattean forces as heavy armor attacks the Rattean armor and defenses. 2 Mi-28's have also been dispatched to the town.

OPFOR Unit 2
Near Cerran
1203 Hours

While the Artillery continues to pound the city, the Flakpanzers took notice of the Ka-52's and opens a barrage of fire onto them, one of them hitting the fuselage and near the rotor of one helicopter.
Meanwhile, the contingent crossing from the river arrives at the area to support the Challenger 2 being engaged by the Leopards. Taking aim from a distance of a few hundred meters, and having the advantage of being behind the Leopards, they aim for their rear, one gun at one Leopard, and fire.
Meanwhile the destroyed Piranha's infantry proceeded to exit the APC and make their way on foot and attempts to storm the city while Artillery and heavy armor cover their approach. An armored unit of 7 T-80U's were also dispatched to support the advance in Cerran.

1200 Hours
Hingdan Hills

The unit had set up in the area well, the armor in dugouts facing the plains where the OPFOR would come from, the infantry in trenches to protect the tanks from hostile infantry. A small FOB had been established with landing pads for the helicopters, bunkers, and artillery enplacements.

Rattean troops begin falling back behind machine guns and provide supporting fire, while the troops provide supporting fire the re-armed helicopters take to the skies once again and begin firing rockets and firing its guns at the oncoming infantry and tanks, wounding and "killing" some. Once the rattean soldiers spotted the 2 Mi-28's they immediately mobilize 2 Flakpanzer Gepard 1A2'S to take them out.
Rattean infantry began firing back at the enemy trying to kill as many as possible, they began taking out tanks with any anti-tank weapon they had. They began using artillery and allied tanks in an attempt to quell the upcoming forces, they were desperate to keep this town.

Southeast of Cerran
East FAP Unit

Because of the relative durability of the contra-rotor system on the Ka-52, only one of the helicopters takes serious damage and "crashes". The other quickly backs off and gets to cover. Meanwhile, dug in infantry begin to engage the attacking infantry. The enemy charge is stopped by well placed rifle fire and the distinctive buzz of MG3s. One of the Leopards is taken out by the surprise attack, and the Leopards not already engaging targets turn their turrets around and begin engaging the enemy flankers. Half of the reserve forces are sent to assist the southern forces. A micro UAV is launched by infantry to spot out the Flackpanzers. The 3 Pzh 2000s present at the FOB load cluster munitions, intent on taking out enemy support units.

Seeing that the enemy was desperate to hold the town. Commander 31 deploys 3 Akatsiyas and orders it to bombard the town. The surviving Challenger 2 tanks managed to cross the river while the remaining infantry had already stormed several buildings and is clearing fixed positions with rocket launchers while 5 T-80U's were being dispatched to fire from across the river. One of the Mi-28's was damaged by the Flakpanzers. But they unleash a storm of missiles at the enemy while their nose cannons terminate as many infantry as they can.

The Challengers engage the enemy Leopards to distract the armor while the T-80U's charge onto the city, engaging MG positions and keeping the enemy defenses at bay while the remaining infantry uses rocket launchers and MG's to storm the city. Another batch of Challenger 2's were being sent to support the T-80's while smoke is being poured into the city nonstop. 2 Super Cobras were being dispatched to the city as well. As the enemy artillery was closing in, the Akatsiyas reposition but a Flakpanzer was destroyed in the process. 2 ZSU's were sent in to complement them

Near Argoi

Seeing that the others were now in a tough fight, Commander 25 immediately sets out his attack. He deploys 5 Challenger 2's and a company to Hingan Hills to suppress the FDR position while 2 more Super Cobras attack Argoi to make way for the attack force.

As the enemy Challengers are spotted by forward observation posts, artillery fire is brought down on coordinates from those same posts. The attack helicopters begin to warm up while the soldiers sit in their slit trenches clutching at their weapons. As the enemy tanks come into range, they are fired upon by FDR tanks.
