The ships surround the cruiser so their crews could use the emergency hoses and extinguishers to try to put the fire out. A rescue unit is prepped to enter the ship

Snipers with semi-automatic EXACTO rifles with infrared scopes are used to take out scouts and enemy snipers and other flanking units as to keep them from doing these sort of attacks whenever possible.
