PRINCE PAUL AND PRINCESS ANDROMEDA
Even though the duel ended with a victory for the Macedonian princess, she seems to want Paul de Rouge, too. Further information still has to be received from Illyria, where all these people are now, and we are waiting.
Still, it seems as if there will be a marriage...

END OF THE CRUSADE!
The First Holy Crusade has come to an end. In Illyria, Timothy has come to power, and as he is Orthodox the members of the Christian Pact have left. All except us. Tyr-Basiliscus has remained with 23,000 soldiers, which will be used against Macedonian pagans alongside Timothy and his Terra Equestor. General Alfred and his men are getting ready.

WAR IN PAYS-DE-CALAIS
The local barbaric tribes are falling. Our army, way too organized and plentiful for the locals, are crushing the enemy. The 15 galleys which had blocked the port of Pas-de-Calais have made their men land, and the 1,500 men took the city with only 32 losses, as the city had been almost completely left.

NEW CONFLICT STARTS-
The First Crusade may be over, but our men won't be coming home for now. This is because we have joined Terra Equestor in their fight against Macedonia. Leading the army there will be Commander Alfred de Rouge.

Colonization of Egyptian Coast Begins!

50,000 soldiers have been deployed from the North Aegean and 100 ships of the Fleet of Aegina have been sent to colonize the Egyptian coast. Before reaching the coast, 1,000 soldiers died of dysentery and sea-sickness, they were all thrown overseas. After that, a small Egyptian naval fleet of 5 ships raided the Athenians, yet, the well-trained navy destroyed them. When landing in Egypt, the remaining 49,000 landed and faced heavy resistance, as Egyptian soldiers are well-organized and trained, however, the Athenians destroyed the coastal resistance, killing about 3,000 soldiers in exchange for 2,000 losses. The army plans to colonize all of Alexandria and the surrounding area. Currently, half of the surrounding area has been captured.

With the aid of King Jason of the Dorians, Prince Paul and General Rouge of the Basilicusians, and Timothy leading the Equestors, the invasion is finally underway. The invading force has been divided into three armies:
Army Rouge will go to the north, where the hills of Macedonia will provide excellent natural defense.

The hills of Macedon are perfect for the trechbuchets that the Basiliscusians will undoubtedly put to good use.

Armies Rider and Macedon will head south and through the middle, where their cavalry will defeat all opposition on the open plains. Their rendezvous point will be the capital of Doria: The abode of King Jason. There they will press onward into Thrace toward the Brotherhood.

Tyr-Basiliscusian Armed Forces Advance Into The Hills of Northern Macedonia

Our army of 23,000 men is now deep into Macedonia, and combat has started. With the mask of dusk, our army divided into two parts and closed onto the citadel of Krylia. Intelligence says that there are probably 12,000 Macedonians inside, but they will be hard to take as the city is very fortified.

The Siege of Krylia, 1068

Our 23,000 men divided into two groups. 11,000 soldiers, under General Maxime Saint-Rabiot, have attacked Krylia from the South, whilst 13,000 men under General Alfred and his nephew Paul de Rouge have attacked from the west.
Just before the battle, General Alfred said:
This attack will be bloody business. Still, I'm curious of seeing how our trebuchets and rams work. I think it'll go all well.

The plan is to completely encircle the city, so no external forces can arrive, and bombard it until the soldiers inside surrender. This plan might be one that takes a while, but very few men will be lost and it is effective.
We will keep you informed.

While the Siege of Kyrilla is underway, Kings Jason and Timothy are preforming gurellia raids on all roads leading to the city to prevent the main Basiliscusian force from being taken by surprise. King Jason divides his men by platoon to monitor checkpoints between every 2.5 miles on roads outside of the city. King Jason requests that any of the "lesser bombards" be lent to him.
After seeing these guys hammer at the wall for a few hours, a few well placed strongholds along the roads will make any reinforcements think twice about attacking the siege army.
As mentioned before, a few Basiliscusian bombarders would be ruthless in the natural strongholds that King Jason knows. Due to the region's minimal infrastructure, collateral damage is encouraged. Meanwhile, King Timothy secures the rear flank and rallies other Kingdoms to his cause, sending word to the Orthodox monasteries and the Catholics in Illyria to come and convert. Timothy proves ruthless in a style that combines hit and run attacks, wearing down the opponents with small organized lighting fast Calvary attacks, Or prolonged archer fire before finishing up with an overwhelming offense.

Tactics can allow a significantly under-equipped soldier to topple this feared Knight, an example of Timothy and Jason's combined guerllia warfare: http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=htt ... kgod40ECGQ

Ranged attacks (such as arrows) allow the attacker the ability to keep the opponent "in chase", exhausting him...

..over an extended period of time, the opponent's group becomes no match for a final attack, usually with fully armored cavalry. Lightly armored cavalry and Horse Archers are used in hit and run attacks:

Defeat of Egyptian Muslims outside of Alexandria and Encirclement of the City

The 47,000 Athenians remaining and alive in Egypt have fought a decisive battle. North Aegean Army Archers launched a huge ambush on 45,000 Egyptian muslim soldiers, killing about 6,000. After this was finished, 10,000 Cavalry launched a large attack on the not well-armored enemy infantry, killing about 3,000 while losing 1,500. When this raid was finished, GreatAthens's regular Hoplite infantry then marched onto the muslims, who at this point were rather disorganized. Despite their initial disorganization, the Muslims quickly re-organized and fought heavily against the Hoplites, killing 4,000 of them, however, during this period, the remaining cavalry had encircled the Muslim infantry and mowed them down, killing over 7,000 in exchange for 5,000 losses. Yet, this last raid frightened the Muslims, who retreated deeper into Egypt and Alexandria. Now, Alexandria is encircled fully.

When the battle finished, the bodies were counted, here are the losses
GreaterAthens: 12,000 Killed or fatally wounded
Muslims: 17,000 Killed or fatally wounded. 3,000 Captured, tortured, and burned alive.

The Siege of Krylia Continues!

As days pass, the siege continues. As monotonous hour after monotonous hour passes, all you can hear around is the crumbling of the walls of the stronghold under our siege weapons.
Fortunately, we haven't ever been attacked from outside as Kings Jonas and Timothy are protecting us from behind the lines. Occasionally, a small force of Macedonians come out from the citadel and try attacking small groups of our men.
Due to these reasons and to occasional diseases, during this campaign we have lost 1,364 men.
We will keep you informed.

Wish of Help From the Greeks Accepted

After King Jonas's pleaded to have some of our great artillery to use, our best architects have created small-sized onagers, of which 70 have been sent to the Greeks.
Here the words of Bern LaChireon, leader architect:
We have made wonderful weapons for our allies. I fervently hope they will be used worthily.

Alexandria Siege Fully Begins

The siege of Alexandria has begun, as the city is surrounded fully and all supplies for it have cut off. Currently, 27,000 soldiers guard the city, their supply of food is severely limited. News from the Kingdom of Tyr-Basiliscus, year 1609

SIEGE OF KRYLIA FINISHES
Now, as the year 1069 starts, in the cold of the winter, the Siege of Krylia comes to an end. By last year's December, the Macedonian in the citadel had been greatly decimated. Now, not even a month later, they have been defeated.
Seeing that the local forces were down to only 4,573 men remaining, Commander Alfred de Rouge stormed the stronghold with his Division "Fierté". Of the 9,433 soldiers who set out, 8,984 came back alive.
Up to now, no Generals have lost his life. Prince Paul, too, took part in the assault, and came back with simply a couple wounds.
Now, our army is ready to march further into Thracia...

BARBARIANS IN PAYS-DE-CALAIS SURRENDER
A war is won. The French region of Pays-de-Calais has been taken by one of our divisions, that led by General Eugeníe Guillhaume.
After the Navy took Pas-de-Calais, and the military formed a semi-circle around that zone, trapping all barbarians inside, the fighting stopped and locals surrendered. 10,562 have become slaves who will work in our territories.
7,000 men had set out on this mission. Of them, 5,921 will come back alive.
Calais is taken!

LOVE AFFAIRS...
The great mystery around the love affair of Prince Paul and the Macedonian Princess Andromeda continues.
Evidently, to find out how this story will finish, we have to wait for the end of the War of Macedonia. Prince Paul himself, after the Siege of Krylia, said:
I myself don't know what will happen. Andromeda is mysterious to say the least, and I cannot wait to reach here in Illyria after this war.

So, for everyone, this story is still a mystery. What will happen next?

Alexandrian Wall Destroyed!

Part of the Wall of Alexandria has come down! 20 battering rams destroyed a part of the wall. After this destruction, 15,000 soldiers broke in. The remaining 10,000 Muslim soldiers who had fighting capacity were brutally fought in hand to hand combat with the Athenian cavalry and hoplites, yet, it was a futile endeavor, as they had far inferior technology and armor. After the initial hand to hand fighting, the Athenians slowly pushed the Muslims into the city center, as to surround them on all sides and prevent them from ever trying to escape. This encirclement prevented any real hopes of Muslim victory and quickly afterwards, the Muslims surrendered. All who surrendered were burned at the stake due to being heretics.

Expansion into Britannia

The ''First Army,'' composing well over 100,000 men, has been sent to invade the counties of Essex and Hertforshire. In order to take the counties more easily, the groups split off into units of 50,000 to invade each counties. Group A consists of the Sussex and Hampshire divisions, and is going to invade Essex, while Group B is the Kent Division, which is going to invade Hertforshire.

When Group A invaded Essex, it met a large force of 30,000 barbarous Picts, who were ready and waiting. Before any archers could strike, the Picts began their charge, making it dangerous for the Archers to stand out. In order to face the picts, 30,000 Knights and Legionnaires are facing them. In a trap, the cavalry are deployed on the flanks of the Knights and Legionnaires, in order to encircle the Picts when they march too deep into the Lines.

When Group B invaded Hertforshire, resistance initially was not meant, and currently about half of Hertforshire is controlled.

The audience in the massive Catholic temple shrieked in delight as the crown of France was placed on Jon I's set of short brown hair. "By the will of God, I announce Jon of house Lyndon, first of his name, and the count of Paris, the king of France and all her holdings, and the lord protector of the kingdom of France! Francais sur tout le reste!" The bishop announced to the people in the temple, all of them being bureaucrats and politicians within Paris's walls. "I also announce, that it is God's will that France be united under a single king, a king in Paris!"

The people in the audotorium screamed in unison, "Francais sur tout le reste!"

"Do you, Jon of house Lyndon, accept the title of 'king of France' which is so rightfully yours?" The bishop questions, knowing the answer.

"Yes my good sir, under my rule you will see to it that France is unified!"

The bishop then keeled down to the new king, a king in France, and the new destiny of Paris. The rest of the people in the temple did the same at almost perfect unison. "You have answered god's will, for here on out you will be known as Jon of house Lyndon, first of his name, count of Paris, and king of France! All territories in the de-jure territories of France are now de-jure ours! Francais sur tout le reste!"

"By the name of our God, I demand that all tribes and nations in the de-jure kingdom of France bend the knee! Or by God I will come to your gates with an army of one hundred thousand!" The newly appointed king yelled to the crowd, yes, this is exactly what they wanted to hear, and Jon knows this. As he adjusts his crown on his head, he sits back on his new throne. With the crowd rejoicing at the new king, Jon can only imagine how great it will be to rule a unified France.

''King Ambrosius of mighty Verdmontia, I, priest of Hampshire, with the word of the lord behind me, hereby pronounce you as supreme ruler of England!'' The Priest said, crowning Ambrosius in a beautiful church in Hampshire. The Crowd of nobleman, priests, and politicians cheered, with shouts of ''Ambrosius be king!'' The priest continued ''I also hereby pronounce that this England shall have a capital in Londinium, and that you and the house of Aurelianus shall forever rule over a England with it's capital in Londinium. Yet, this Britannia shall have it's own semi-independent duchies, free in somewhat of a sense, yet, subjugated to you''

Battle against the Picts Results in Victory!

In the outskirts town of Chelmsford in Essex, the 30,000 picts charging the Legionnaires and Knights, with more haste then caution, charged forward, and terrified the most cowardly of the Verdmontian soldiers. This initial assault killed about 1,000 Verdmontians, but, lost about 1,000 as well. After this, the Verdmontians retreated backwards slightly, drawing the Picts into a trap! The picts fell into it foolishly. When they did, 10,000 Cavalrymen encircled the picts and prevented them from retreating. After that, a cavalry charge began, surprising the picts and knocking out 4,000 of them, however, the Picts were savage, and defended ferociously, killing 1,500 Cavalrymen and dismounting another 800.

This raid gave time for the Knights and Legionnaires to reorganize and push forward on the trapped picts, who had no escape rout and no hope. ''Ye Legions of Verdmontia, fight for the kingdom, fight for God!'' A Captain shouted to his troops. 30,000 Knights and Legionnaires attacked the Picts, killing them, slaughtering them, and enslaving them. After this finished, the Verdmontians had effective control of Essex.

Final Battle Results:
For Verdmontia
  • 5,000 Killed
  • 1,500 Wounded

Jon Lyndon sat on his throne, contemplating a proposal brought to him by his most trusted general, Alexander of Toulouse. "M'liege, we mustn't let the kingdom in the North hold onto its domains in our lands by right!" Alexander states in a matter-a-fact tone. "They hold onto French lands, but they don't follow a French king! Francais sur tout le reste!"

Jon stares at the general continuing his contemplation. "My queen, what are your thoughts on this issue?" Jon asks his wife, who is sitting next to him in a slightly smaller throne.

"Husband, that decision is up to you, you are the king of France. Do as you need."

"Man of Toulouse, arm our northern fortresses, I want to see one hundred and fifty thousand troops East of Paris within the next week, you and I will be leading the army in the North together, and by God have a squire fetch me something to write with!"

A squire quickly handed Jon a letter, a quill, and a board to write on. The king of France accepted the squire's offers generously. He then began to write his letter.

To: King Clyde de Rouge of Tyr-Basiliscus
From: The Holy King Jon Lyndon of France

I write this letter hoping that you, as a king of his own peoples, see to it that whatever you do after receiving this letter is done with the hearts of your people in your mind. I will not hold a grudge against Tyr-Basiliscus for it's king doing what he thinks is best for his people. That being said however, I expect that you meat my demands, or face an army greater than your kingdom's national defense forces. I expect you to answer me within the next week, you have but three options.

1. The people of Tyr-Basiliscus recognize king Jon I Lyndon as the king of France, and follow him as king of Tyr-Basiliscus too.
2. Your people migrate out of France, and continue to live independently.
3. Your people stay in France, and remain independent, but ultimately get defeated by the French military machine, forcing your people to submit.

Each decision has a set of it's own consequences, I hope you choose wisely.

Regards, the esteemed king of all of France, Jon Lyndon.

King Jon of La Royaume de Francais sat at his throne like he did every day, but today was different, his daughter, Evelyn Lyndon, would be marrying into house Aurelianus to capitalize the alliance between the two kingdoms. Everything seemed to go by routine and in slow motion, Jon watched as the alliance with Verdmontia strengthened by the minute. He watched as the king of Verdmontia's son embraced his daughter. But above all else, he watched with pride as the favorite of his three daughters walked the red carpet, and accepted Julius's hand in marriage. She was so much like him, and he loved her, but she would end up being just another pawn in a game of thrones. At a time when Jon was supposed to be not only a happy king, but a happy father, Jon went to his quarters early in a depressed mood.

At his quarters he sat on his bed, thinking his life away. "Why am I so human?" He asked himself, expecting an answer from God. He didn't notice the tears in his eyes until after they had passed. "Why must I be so weak?" He asks again, but this time doesn't expect his question to be answered by God.

Jon didn't notice he had slept until after he woke up. As his eyes opened from a mid-day sleep, he came to a conclusion: Jon wouldn't be just another weak king of France, Jon would make a name for himself. He would secure his family, which he loved dearly, a role in French and foreign politics for the years to come.

Not just for him but for his people, and above all else his family.

The Prussian State Crosses the Oder!

The Prussian Army crossed the Oder River, with a contingent of Peasants for settlement. The force of 15,000 Numbered mostly of Landsknect and Crossbowmen was accompanied 20,000 peasants when they were set upon by 4,000 Tribal Warriors. The Prussian forces formed a spear wall around the peasants, while the crossbowmen peppered the Tribals with bolt.

The Tribals charged the spear-wall, falling upon pike and halberd in seconds, hundreds dying in seconds. The battle passed quickly as the Landsknecht cleaned up with their Zweihanders.

The Results of the Battle of North Brandenburg were

Tribals:

Initial Strength: 4,000
Finishing Strength: 245
Casualties: 3,500 killed, 100 Injured, 165 captured.

Prussians:

Initial Strength: 15,000
Finishing strength: 14,850
Casualties: 70 Killed, 80 Injured

Negotiations have begun with local tribe leaders, and promises of land in return for bending the knee have been accepted by the majority, with a combined opposition force of around 10,000 remaining, rally to the fort in Berlin. North Brandenburg has joined the Prussian Kingdom.

(OOC ish) It should also be noted that although he is all right with Catholic princes, when Timothy made an open ended request to wed a Catholic princess, King Jon was insulted that a lowly Orthodox prince requesting his daughter's hand saying
I won't allow such beasts to marry a daughter of Lyndon!
.
Later when the crusade was actually underway and Illyria would become a member of the Catholic Pact at wars end. Discussing ways to further cement the alliance, the prospect of marriage with a Catholic Princess arose. Again Jon refused, quote
I know, and I'm telling you that you cannot marry one of my well loved children of Jon Lyndon. You can marry some Courtier in my halls, it would fit your barbaric ways more
Even going so far as to suggest that King Gustav betray Timothy and appoint a Prussian regent! Later during the feast to celebrate the ousting of the pagan king, Timothy invited all members of the crusaders and the Catholic Pact to join in the festivities. Threefold King Jon insulted the Illyrian King, this time in the presence of the leader of the Catholic Pact. Albeit Timothy was still offended by King Jon's first two insults, stating that he deserved to sit with the lackawits and the dogs. But still extended the invitation to his humble abode. Gustav, the mightiest of these kings, accepted with courtesy deserving of nobility. However, Jon was less than polite:
Unless you want me to march into your halls by force! Oh how easy it would be to dispose of a weak king, who owns a land ravaged by war!
Gustav held Jon's tongue, and he was not present at the feast. Jon left with the words
Alright, but the king in Paris will never trust an Orthodox king
To this day, King Jon and King Timothy have not been on good terms

I've got a bad feeling about this...

Timothy and Andromeda awoke at the same time on the same night. The siege of Kyrila had gone splendidly, winter would delay all sides advancements, and the troops begin to get ready for Christ's Mass.
And yet...
An uncertain vision struck both of the two Macedonian heirs. Fires ravaging a rocky but fertile coast land. An invader from an island to the north, and a king in the south with a sword for a tongue. A king and queen bearing striking similarities to Paul, impaled with their city ablaze. The maniacal laughter of conquerors...
Andromeda stated that she rejected Paul's feeling, that she "changed her mind and he should go home". Timothy understood the message more than anyone. Tyr-Basiliscus was going to be invaded from the north and south, and the best of the Basiliscusian troops were miles away from home. Timothy tried a more delicate approach, saying that he and Jason should do the rest of the fighting, to encourage the people that they will be ruled by Macedonian kings. He hopes that Paul might arrive in time to aid his people. It hurt him to deceive his future brother in law, but he felt he couldn't hold him here when his country would be in danger. Ultimately, it is up to Paul and General Rouge to make the decision. It is a cold winter indeed, as the tears of a normally unshakable Andromeda are frozen, frozen like her heart must be in order for her love to save his people...

Tyr-Basiliscusian Forces Retreat From Macedonia

Our Men Leave Macedonia

After threats from our Kingdom, received from Verdmontia and Le Royaume de Francais, Commander Alfred has decided that our troops have to reach the Kingdom. The remaining 20,549 soldiers are back in Illyria, but haven't managed to personally meet and say goodbye to Kings Timothy and Jason.
Fortunately, though, just before leaving Prince Paul had his marriage with Andromeda. Sadly the ceremony was short and hurried, but both have promised there will be a great feast when Paul comes back. Even Princess Andromeda has departed with the group of Tyr-Basiliscusian soldiers.
Prince Paul talked:
Even though I would have given anything to remain here, to fight alongside these great warriors, my people call me back. I must go, and defend the citizens with even my life, if I must. Finally I am married to Andromeda. Now we will go back to our land, and she will finally see ny world.

Even General Alfred de Rouge has spoken.
Staying here, I have developed great friendships with the locals. Just like Paul, I am sorry to be leaving. But God's will be done... Still, representing my kingdom, I must ask King Timothy that he lends us some soldiers. I am sure combat will break out in France, and we need as many men as possible.

The soldiers are now back on the ships, on the voyage back home. 40 ships had set out for the land of Terra Equestor, now 35 come back.
We will keep you informed.

Tragedy Strikes in Pays-de-Calais!

Not even two hours ago, General Eugeníe Guillhaume of the Tyr-Basiliscusian army, who had conquered Pays-de-Calais, has been brutally assassinated.
He had been parading in a city opin the South of the Region, but 4 men dropped into his chariot and stabbed him to death. All 4 were killed in combat afterwards, where even 2 Tyr-Basiliscusians lost their lives.
King Clyde, having heard the news, said:
Eugeníe was a young and very fine general. His death has come as a bad hit to all of us, but we need to be strong and go on living. My oldest son, Paul, is now 21, married, and can become General.

So, the new general is Paul de Rouge, heir to the throne. We all, naturally, hope he survives this ordeal, and reaches the age in which he will become king.
General Guillhaume's funeral will be held in two weeks time in Caen, Normandie. Representatives of other nations are kindly asked to be present.

The Athenian Post

Athenian Naval Commander and Politician Themistocles has been chosen by the people to come to the funeral. It will take about four weeks for him to get there, but he doesn't mind, as he is a patient man. Themistocles is coming with 5 Dismounted Infantry as guard to Ty-r-Basiliscus.

Macedonia Surrenders!

by Terra Equestor
With little opposition, the rest of the barbaric tribes of Thrace fell to the combined might of Equestor and Basiliscusian warriors. With the Sack of Bulgaris, the capital of the heathens, the Princess Calidora (the sister of Timothy) was appointed Princess of Illyria, while King Jason rules the region of Macedonia. The converted King, Thoas, will rule the regions of Lesser Dacia, the outlying lands formerly occupied by the heathens. The Treaty of Macedon marks the beginning of a united Terra Equestor. Long live King Timothy!
