Also i think that the old wiki should be up for a bit longer to find away to port over older articles that weren't archived on the wayback machine, i don't think it's right if this data is just simply lost.

We'll consider the skin update.

Keeping both sites up nearly doubled costs, so you will excuse me if I prioritize affordability for myself over data recovery in the long term. There was plenty of time to migrate what was needed/wanted.

Please do.

I understand that although I do wish that the site was up for atleast one more day to have enough time to archive web pages and sources to the wayback machine.

While we're not looking at adding more skins, as Timeless offers dynamic features that other default skins do not, I am open to modifying the CSS to make the site look better and be more usable on a variety of platforms.

As of today, the highly requested one-sidebar design has been implemented, which should considerably help with the clutter issue. This should also help keep page options in a more consistent location. Smaller resolutions will still see the top navbar design, and even smaller ones the hamburger menu (such as for mobile).

Speaking of, we have also (hopefully) fixed the mobile issue where certain infoboxes would have their text cut off at small resolutions. Not entirely verified, but the issue doesn't seem to show up anymore in my testing.

While i do think the Timeless skin does look very good, it's just not an all-rounded skin, it makes pages look oversaturated and bloated due to the large size of the skin, you can compare it with a page i have just finished and the page i based it on and for what i'm trying to do the Vector skin looks better, i'm not saying to ditch the Timeless skin and make Vector the default, i think both should be an option in preferences.

The light borders can be fixed, and I've already done so for infoboxes and tables to help with the contrast. We would rather focus on adjusting one versatile skin to give IIWiki a unified look, rather than having to adjust a few or all of the default skins.

I am definitely open to adjusting Timeless to improve usability, such as with the contrast. If there's other areas you believe need adjustment, just let me know and I'll try to make it work with the skin.

Personally, i think the timeless skin sandwiches the content as a result of having an overly large side-bar, there is still some work to be done on the contrasting side of things and even little cosmetic details like borders on flags (for example) still get cut off which is more visible in flags with a white background instead of just being one solid colour border that surrounds the entirely of the picture.

I understand that working on multiple skins would be tiresome but i still think that the vector skin should be a feature or the timeless skin should resemble vector a bit more, fixing the contrast and the large size of tables would be a good start.

We would recommend removing the wordmark when the logo is shown (when the viewing area is at least 1100px wide). We have a CSS rule for removing the text logo.

Thanks for the suggestion. I'll look at implementing it in the next few days. Do you have a suggestion on how to re-center the search bar and user account?

Unfortunately, not yet, although there is an active Phabricator task.

Timeless is actually a public beta theme that is currently being improved, and is not yet the default for the Wikimedia projects. We used to clone the master of the theme’s repository, but due to the change in the core, the latest versions require MediaWiki 1.34, which is deployed on the Wikimedia projects only.

It's been quite some time since I made any use of this thread, having honestly forgotten about it. However, we've refreshed the look of the main page and done a bunch of other things since the last update, and I have recently spoken to someone who was accidentally misled by the fact that this thread wasn't fully updated with new links.

Anyway, long story short, IIWiki is still trucking along and (almost) anyone is free to join.

Introduction

Greetings!

This topic is IIWiki's official topic on the Nationstates forums, and any questions, comments, or concerns concerning the wiki should be posted here or on the site's discussion pages. Occasionally, this thread will be used by the IIWiki staff to post important announcements. For those not familiar with IIWiki, IIWiki is wiki dedicated to storing national information and facts about the in-character creations of posters from the NS Diplomacy forums. It was founded in 2011 by Solm after Milograd suggested that a new, active, RP-dedicated, in-character wiki be created to fill the void that was left by Wikistates and not filled by NSWiki. It, as of November 2017, hosts over 35,000 articles. Anyone is welcome to use IIWiki regardless of what tech level they play, how long they have been on the site, how skilled they are as roleplayers, et cetera.

Please come by our Discord server. We have general chat, help with formatting, worldbuilding discussion, and site management there. It's the best way to get in touch with staff and other community members.

Announcements
7/17/22: We have updated the main page, added a bunch of new templates and help pages, etc etc.

6/30/19: iiwiki.com points to iiwiki.us, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.

6/30/19: Everything not moved has been lost permanently, including images. We unfortunately do not have the ability to store images indefinitely for future retrieval.

3/12/19: We have a new site up on new servers that are better equipped to handle IIWiki traffic. The old site will remain up for a few weeks for transitional purposes, but we will eventually need to take it down, and whatever wasn't migrated will be lost permanently.

11/12/17: We apologize for the rocky few months as our traffic completely destroys the hardware of the system we moved to. We are looking into moving to a dedicated server to alleviate this.

5/15/17: We now have a new host! This change accompanies an image purge to get us more free space and stop plowing through our disk space.

7/15/16: Ownership of IIWiki has changed smoothly - thank you to Solm for getting us started and getting us to this point!

7/30/15: Due to our growing size, the server will need to be updated soon. We will keep you apprised of all the details. We have also posted a new thread here on NS to better keep in touch with the community.

11/27/12: IIWiki now has its own tag on NationStates!

11/7/12: IIWiki finally has an official thread on the Nationstates forum. It is a work in progress and will be updated to be more comprehensive and informative from time to time. Players of Nationstates and users of the wiki are encouraged to discuss topics pertaining to the wiki therein, though it is not meant to serve as a substitute to the wiki's discussion pages or IRC/Discord channel.

FAQ

Q: Do you have a template for starting a nation article?
A: We have both the nation template code and example section headers for you to fill out here.

Q: Do you have a template for starting a region article?
A: Region infobox code is here. Hopefully, section headers should be added in the near future.

Q: Can you install Visual Editor?
A: VE is a very resource-hungry extension. While our upgraded set-up might be able to handle it, there are no guarantees. We will, however, be looking into it eventually.

Q: Does IIWiki content have to be stuff used in the International Incidents subforum?
A: Absolutely not. It can be stuff you're only using in the Nationstates or GE&T subforums, gameside-only, or even things you don't even have on the Nationstates website. We're pretty open about what you can put on there, so long as you follow the rules.

Q: Why is Homofront banned on IIWiki?
A: Because it's an atrocious, fetishistic concept that revolves around being able to justify more widely rounded up and killing LGBT people. We allow a lot, but that one is just terrible on its face. Furryfront was also banned and deleted for the same reason.

Spoilered are some pre-established headers. You don't need all of them, or the order they're in, and you might want others (especially with history - your country will have different eras)

Got a question,

My Nation has been opeating a Space Agency. I noticed that there is only a spot for the Primary Spaceport in the Infobox for Space Agencies. Is there a way to get secondary spaceports added to the infobox, or should I just do what I have been doing and just list secondary spaceports separately from the infobox?

I would use Wikipedia as an example here. Their article for NASA does this:

Code: Select all
 |spaceports = {{hlist|[[John F. Kennedy Space Center]]|[[Cape Canaveral Space Force Station]]|[[Vandenberg Space Force Base]]}}
