IIRC, there were discussions about it, but, to the best of my knowledge, Imgur does not work with svg files.

Imgur does not support .svg files, but you can leave it on IIwiki as .svg files don't take much space, they usually take around 50ish kilobytes, depending on detail and size. For example, parliament diagram in current featured article is .png and it takes 70KB, .svg one would take even less than that

I do believe it might be time to cut down the filesize limit... perhaps to 1 MB. I looked at the File list and a 1 MB might cut off a gig of space.

Regardless, we seriousy should consider a size cap. If nothing else it will allow time for the user base to evacuate the data they have on the site.

I doubt it. The files I'm still in the process of shrinkinating are still there.

Santh lowered the limit to that a few days ago, yeah. Old files above that limit remain until they're manually removed. The best course of action at the moment, for everyone, is to reupload any unduly large images you might still have at a much lower file size (e.g. by reducing them to no more than c. 400 pixels wide, by saving as a jpeg where possible, etc.) and then provide links to administrators so that we can delete the old versions. Sticking {{delete}} on an article is all well and good, but there are many, many hundreds of images with that attached and it would take forever to work through all the 2-kilobyte ones to get to the 1.8-megabytes.

If the server's down sporadically, it's because it's overworked with all the images it has. It can crawl and even become inaccessible just from deleting a single image or editing an article. Please be patient; the administrators can only delete images so quickly, but we have a large userbase constantly uploading images faster than we can make the space.

Wilco, I won't have access to a computer with the necessary tools for a couple of days but once I do I should be able to begin clearing out my bigger images.
