"Hurdles are a given; I appreciate your guidance in navigating them."

All of those proposals seemed fine. There was a lot to consider, though - he'd need to consult his colleagues before taking a formal stance.

"Before we continue, though, I'd like to ask - do the Ostehaar hope to gain something in particular from our talks? If so, I'd appreciate knowing that so that we could better steer our negotiations."

"Well, it mainly depends on the final agreements... But we see investments in regional R&D, especially involving our closest neighbors, as a positive approach. We hope that by assisting your industry we could advance Geal's industry or the nations of the Eterna Sea."

"And in the more general sense," Tomas continued, "the current administration has been making efforts to increase our involvement in matters of the Eterna Sea. We already have a close alliance with Verdon, so investing in relations with Mageek... is the next step."

"That's all good, then," Husanov replied. "Especially in regard to joint R&D, so I propose we start with that - we have a small number of relevant specialists, most of which, as mentioned, leave the country. I'm guessing that the easiest way to provide opportunities for Magekites at home while benefiting Ostehaar development efforts would be to simply open some of your R&D offices, directly or through a subsidiary, within our own cities?"

Husanov continued - "Nuclear power could also be a part of our discussions, especially since we also happen to be trying to wean off of foreign oil - now if only we could find some domestic uranium..."

"That is certainly a good option," Tomas said, referring to the R&D collaboration. "I'll have my office inform the Ministry back home and they'll contact your government with a proposal pretty soon, if that's okay. They'd probably first want to meet the people from your nation in-charge of such programs in order to discuss specifics, such as the type and size of these centers, the relevant research fields..."

"As for the nuclear issue, the lack of Uranium isn't a problem. OCES has mining and extraction contracts with several nations across the region. We mine in Vancouvia, for example. Any contract between our governments can include both the power plants and the nuclear fuel supply."

(OOC - your last post sounded like it was trying to wrap things up, please let me know if I'm mistaken)

"I see, I see." Husanov paused. "On a more immediate note, would you mind exchanging contact information? While I do enjoy meeting you in person, and I do trust the folks at home to handle the paperwork nicely, but I think it would do everyone good to have a less formal backdoor to stay up to date and resolve any disturbances without having to involve the higher-ups, and without annoying the accountants with another plane ticket."

The coffee was getting cold, Husanov realized - he had forgot to drink most of it. No matter, he could come here again at another time.

Hugo Poullain, a short, lean man in his early 40s was the new Envoy of Segentova to the League. Poullain himself had no idea how he got there as he was on all accounts a quite unremarkable man, he hadn't done much in life except, getting passed over for the army due to his near-sightedness. One thing he was good at, however, doing his job. Though, that would have usually been sitting in a damp office or cubicle, filling out forms, stamping, and organizing documents. a beurocrat purebred beurocrat, he had all the hallmarks of a man who had worked in an office his entire career and only got out to fresh air during smoke breaks and the commute home. His hair was greying at the temples, he had a bald spot at the back of his head he made sure to always cover up by combing some hair over it with his fingers. To be frank, it, fooled no one who stood within two meters of him as the man was short enough that anybody of normal height would be able to stare right onto his scalp. the man's choice of clothing left equally much to be desired; a loose-fitting charcoal-gray suit and beige v-neck sweater, his clothes carried the faintest smell of cigarette smoke. Yey, here he was, the man who had done his duty in the civil service for going on 20 years, served under a few foreign ministers, and always done his duty.

When your country calls, you heed the call., et least that's what Poullain had been thinking when the Segen delegation pulled up to the main building. Even though he appreciated the promotion, it still wasn't easy, having to make new connections, having to represent a whole country, while the whole world, so to speak would be watching every step of the way, scrutinizing his every move. And Odette! His wife, she had wanted to stay in Toulon, and yet he still made her come here, and the girls. Oof, he didn't want to think about it now, but he couldn't help it.

Monsieur Ambassador, we are there. Ready for the first day at your new job?
It was the driver, he looked at the ambassador through the mirror, Poullain thought to himself that the driver's eyes looked like they were piercing his very soul. Shake that thought, there was nothing wrong here, he took off his glasses, wiped his brow, and took a deep breath. Putting on his glasses again he saw nothing but a smiling young man, looking up to his country's new ambassador, a proud citizen of Segentove, whom he would be representing. Poullain smiled back at the man before grabbing ahold of his briefcase, unlocking the car door, then proceeding swing it open and stride out of the car, toward the front entrance

Monsieur Ambassador!. Poullain stopped dear in his tracks, it was the driver's voice, crying out. You forgot your wallet. Suddenly the ambassador wasn't so sure of himself anymore. he shrunk back into his regular old self as he made a heel-turn, walking back to the car. The window-lowered and driver holding his wallet out to him, the ambassador inspected it, before reaching in and pulling out a 50-Livre note, he handed the note to the driver and stuffed the wallet into his coats inner-pocket. The walk towards the entrance was a long one and this was just the beginning of the day, what more pleasant experiences could possibly lay in wait?

The gray halls of the League of the Western Isles was illuminated by sunlight from its tall, glass windows. Away from the formalities of the chamber, Thelacaliesti Marius Helathrien Thescamon-Orelacthilia, was taking a stroll through the empty halls. He was wearing the usual formal wear of Roendavarians, a green colored suit and pants and an ornate fur coat. He wore various gold chains and gems as jewelry, the yellow color complimenting the usual Roendavarian skin tone of cream. However, his title as second-son of the Caliesti of Thescamon has awarded him with an emerald encrusted rose pin in his hair, a tradition that sets the ducal families apart. Sometimes, I think I'm way too overdressed for the League. This is why we get called pompous. He grimaced, golden chains clicking as he slowly proceeded to his walk.

As he turned a corner, he spotted a silver haired woman standing on the hallway reading a cream colored paper. He perfectly knew well who it was as she was dressed the same as him, although with less jewelry and with the more common golden bands in her hair.

"Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia."

The silver haired woman turned around, a strained smile forcefully stretched across her face. I suppose her reaction is warranted, considering her situation back in Roendavar. He approached her casually, an uneasy silence settling between the two citizens of the same nation. While Roendavarians are quite elegant people, a slight tension hanging in the air as Marius stood in front of Cirasephona. In what seemed like a long minute, Cirasephona finally moved and began to speak.

"Thelacaliesti Thescamon-Orelacthilia. Marius. Ei Iraliviras altheira."
"No need for formalities, Cirasephona. We are not in our country." Marius sighed. "You also have a higher title than me here so I suppose I should be the one being formal to you."

An uneasy silence once again descended onto the pairr. Frankly, Marius was getting impatient, though, he supposed he would do well trying to fix bridges with his co-worker. Less of formalities but more of an innate feeling of fellowship between two fellow Roendavarians in a foreign land.

"I believe I haven't told you this but congratulations for winning the position of Secretary-General." He exclaimed, throwing a small gentle smile at her direction. "You would do well to prove i Florin Celion right by choosing you."
"You have read the report on me?"
"Walk with me." Marius invited, gesturing at the Secretary-General to follow him. By the sounds of it, Cirasephona took the request, both their heavy leather boots tapping across the floor.

He only skimmed through the report given by the HEI. It was a minor transgression by Cirasephona, implicated in an event that happened just months ago, though it seemed to have caused the entire High Council back in Roendavar to go wild and call for her imprisonment. i Florin Celion interevened and issued a pardon, on the condition that Cirasephona would be nominated, and if it goes through, become the Secretary-General of the League. An interesting proposition, but i Florin Celion must have his reasons for doing so.

"I have read the report, yes, but it is no matter, Cirasephona. i Florin Celion has chosen to ignore these issues and wipe the slate clean. Given that you have served your people well in the past, and you shall continue to serve them well now."
"If honesty is required of me, I do not regret any decisions I have made in the past." She confidently stated.
"And I shall not question whether that is good or bad." Marius raised a gloved hand, wanting to end the topic. "It has been decided, and so it shall be done."
"I'm glad, nonetheless." Cirasephona obliged, keeping in pace with the Roendavarian delegate. "On the topic of our job, I fear that the League is heading into unknown territory. Truth be told, I feel it."
"I do hope so. It has become quite boring the past few months." He joked, a quick laugh escaping his lips. "Someone should start a war already."
"As the League, I would advise you to shut it." She said, though her wink afterwards implied that she was joking as well.
"Then remember to do your best, Cirasephona. I say this from one Roendavarian to another."
"i iralira ilasthria oesthera, ei velerias aegra ias iclera." She proclaimed, a reference to a Roendavarian poem.

The rose blooms silently, and soon it shall dig its thorns. The sounds of their continued conversation and their jewelry echoed through the halls of the League. The past is both behind them, after all, Roendavarians, as few as they are, must stick together in the face of the increasingly complicated world. An increasingly... violent... cutthroat... complicated world of the Western Isles.

Roger Van Adrichem sat in one of the lobbies adjacent to the General Assembly chamber in the League, though he knew the Ambassador from Reathwood was intending to present a resolution on the floor during this session, he decided against sitting there directly when it happened. The TV itself was silent as the Reathwood Ambassador spoke, going on a diatribe about the evils of indentured servitude "... the time has come for us to oppose modern slavery." Though he could not physically turn the TV off, Roger certainly felt the desire to, he figured all too well that the Resolution would fail on a technicality and that its only real goal was to antagonize and isolate Altera, Segentova, and Aprosia, three nations which Dormill and Stiura needed to play nice if it was to defuse the Faronna situation safely.

On that front, he had to oppose the Resolution. On the other hand, Dormill and Stiura already had a long and involved history with indentured servitude, several Republics in the older union used the practice as a way of paying out social debts, as well as literal debts; it was universally abandoned following the Imperial War and the United Republics has since long condemned the idea as "slavery with legalese" for decades, to stand opposed to the League on this matter would cast Dormill and Stiura as even more hypocritical than it is now.

He knew he would either have to abstain or refuse to show up, but at the same time he knew he had to do something for the United Republics on such a prominent international level, which is why he sat in this lobby, adjacent to the General Assembly chamber and the shortest path between the chamber and Ambassadors Danír's and Ambassador Poullain's offices.

Anna Brakefield - with her average height and scarlet-hair to match her fiery determination - was impatiently leaned on the grand walls of the lobby entrance. Her gaze seemed fixated on the Horizon Atlas 3 phone in her hand, but her focus on the world around her. She was there on a mission, one that had been - much to her pleasure - very last minute and slap-dash; allowing her to revel in the improvised adventure that lay before her. The nature of her mission was simple, but came from the highest authority in the Confederacy. With rumours of the Reathwood resolution now realised, confirmed by the sudden announcement within the halls of the League, her department - along with several others - had been tasked with numerous tasks with one end-goal in mind - to force the Resolution to fail.

Her eyes briefly fixed upon the gentleman from Dormill and Stiura, who clearly was unsettled by the images on the television. Her timing couldn't have been more perfect; the Ambassador for Reathwood was emblazoned on the screen - spouting his drivel about how the "evils of indentured servitude". Watching the man grow increasingly irritated, it was time for her to begin her work. Casually walking past Adrichem, she sat down next to him, giving the appearance she was still working from her phone. Without looking up from the phone screen, she spoke meaningfully - but with a hint of tiredness that all the bureaucrats around here seemed to have.

"Terrible business this - this resolution from Reathwood; his heart may be in the right place - but still so poorly executed ...". She sighed a little, hoping her words and demeanour would add to the role.

Roger took notice of the new Alteran as she sat down, though he paid no mind as he continued to watch the debate on the floor through the captions. "In my time with the League, poor execution seems to be all it can muster. I still remember trying to convince the League to intervene when Charbagnia was invaded the first time, nobody seemed to care then until it found Aprosian weapons a few years later." He paused for a moment, and looked back up at the woman that appeared close to over half his age and found her Alteran flag pin on her lapel, "I don't remember the Curia sending out an Ambassador to the League. Who might you be?"

Debate in the chamber regarding the proposed resolution continued and continued, with voices for, against and everything in between filling the air. Despite the so-called noble goals of the resolution, Danír Madeiném, the representative of Aprosia, could imagine where this nobility could lead. Following his comment regarding the definition of indentured labor and questioning the goal of the resolution in a minor manner, he decided to prepare. He excused himself and left the chamber.

Call it experience regarding the League's earlier actions when it came to Aprosia or simply being prepared, Danír had a trick in his sleeve when it came to potentially bad situations for Aprosia in the League. Dossiers regarding the disliked aspects of Aprosia, whitewashed enough to present them openly if needed. While they had not been necessary so far, Danír was certain that the dossiers proved worth the strings he had to pull to get them during the start of his assignment in the League.

Approaching his office in the restrained manner nearly stereotypical of a man of his party background, he saw the two in the hallway. Initially surprised for the two to wait in the hallways during a session, he slowed down.

"I didn't expect the session to be this well liked."

With a light click of the power button, Anna switched off her device and slipped it into her blazer pocket. She slightly turned her head towards the gentleman - as if to address him in a friendly manner, but not fully giving off the impression of closedness. Looking down at her label, she chuckled.

"These gosh-darned things they make us wear; they may as well tar and feather me and throw me out to the gawping press outside ..." Sighing lightly, she turned more to the man, fixating her eyes on him.

"Anna, Anna Brakefield. And whilst I may be from Altera, I am not here as an Ambassador. I'm here on behalf of a ... mutual party, let's say."

She laughed lightly. "Oh listen to me, I sound like some sort of wanna be spy! All cloak and dagger! The truth is, I'm merely here as a representative of certain parties within Altera. All government, all above board, no shady dealings - just one honest party talking to another."

"But, enough about me ... where does your nation stand on this resolution?"

"I would have to consult with the Ministry in order to confirm the stance, but you should already know that the United Republics is firmly against the practice of unpaid and underpaid labor in general, even the Alteran system with its intricate complexities and tidings of fairness. Yet at the same time, the resolution as is is woefully insufficient to make a reasonable argument for support. It needs more weight behind it that Dormill and Stiura might not have an immediate desire to use."

Van Adrichem and the new Alteran Ambassador spoke for a few moments more before they both heard the distinct Aprosian accent pierce the air...

"For a such an enlightened resolution proposed by our colleague from Reathwood, the definition certainly missed the mark. Too... vague, too open-ended. Have a proper definition within the resolution and those above me have no issue with the resolution."

Outside the Palace of Nations, International City

Meanwhile, while the Assembly of the League has been discussing and voting on another resolution, Lesvan dissidents have started staging demonstrations outside the Palace of Nations in International City. During the demonstrations, the protesters have been waving the silver variant and the purple variant of the Lesvan national flag, while also waving banners that are against the Throngist leadership in Lesva and directly call out the League and even the League's Secretary-General Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia. The Lesvan dissident demonstrations are calling for the League to go after the leadership of the Throngist Republic of Lesva, which they call a dictatorship, demanding that the League pass a resolution condemning and sanctioning the Throngist leadership in Lesva, strip it of international recognition and isolating it, which would hopefully, according to the dissidents, lead to the Throngist leadership's eventual downfall.

The dissidents chanted:

"The League, support freedom in Lesva! Alfethis Refihhlia come out!"

These days, Lesvan representatives at the League have to be more cautious, as Lesvan exiled dissidents within the diaspora are active at trying to convince the League to take action against the leadership of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva (TMPL) in the country of Lesva. The tactic of achieving that goal includes circling the grounds, where the League is based, which is why Lesvan officials have to be careful not to get into a direct encounter with those most likely wishing them death. Reflecting this new reality, the Lesvan government has increased security staff and general precautions for its' representatives at the League. These days, however, as a fortune for the Lesvan government, activism and "lurking around" the League's headquarters by the expat activists has died down, as they seemed to have not or at least not yet received the response they have been hoping for from the League on confronting Throngist Lesva.

The primary discussion among Lesvan representatives at the League these days, has been the possible appointment of a new chief representative/ambassador of the Throngist Republic of Lesva to the League. Related to this appointment, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Erso Rediba is supposed to visit the International District to discuss the new appointment with other Lesvan diplomatic representatives at the League. Lesva's involvement and pro-activity in international affairs managed by the League has been low under the current representatives. Ministry of Foreign Affairs has adopted a stance that a change in diplomatic officials at the League coupd change that.

Palace of Nations, International City, March 28

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Throngist Republic of Lesva Erso Rediba arrived in International City in the International District (ID), specifically at the headquarters of the League of TWI. The Minister of Foreign Affairs, as Head of Diplomacy, is visiting Lesvan diplomatic representatives in the League, in order to discuss the appointment of a new head for them in a form of a new chief diplomat/ambassador of the Throngist Republic of Lesva to the League. In addition, the Foreign Minister would be informing the current diplomats that they would soon be joined by new diplomats because the Foreign Ministry would not just be appointing a new ambassador, but also renewing the diplomatic staff at the League by appointing new diplomats that would join the current ones and in general expand the size of Lesva's diplomatic staff at the League. The Foreign Ministry believes a new ambassador and an increase in size of the diplomatic staff would change the strategy of Lesva's diplomatic functions at the League with a new more pro-active style, as Lesva's current engagement in the League is on a lower level, including voting on resolutions. Although the Foreign Ministry will put forth the nominations for the appointment ambassador and other diplomats, the final say on who will be appointed will be behind the ruling Throngist Movement Party of Lesva.

Palace of Nations, International City, September 24

As the term of the current Secretary General of the League of The Western Isles was coming to an end, the League was now focused on electing a new Secretary General and countries were putting forward their candidates. The Throngist Republic of Lesva did not have an ambition to put forth its' candidate for the position of Secretary General, given the fact that the country simply did not have such a goal this time and that the diplomats suspected that there would not be a lot of countries supporting a Lesvan candidate, considering that a number of countries had sanctioned Lesva and also recognized the Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile as the legitimate leadership of Lesva over the Government of the Throngist Movement Party of Lesva. Therefore, it was unlikely that a candidate from the Throngist government would garner enough support, so Lesva was not going to seek in engaging in a "political game" that it did not believe to have close chances of winning. Instead, Lesva shifted focus on using the League to finally advance the legal diplomatic attempts of achieving Lesva's goals on the international stage, namely not allowing for the Throngist ideology be silenced. Ambassador of the Throngist Republic of Lesva to The League of The Western Isles Rodi Initiva, who would have likely been Lesva's candidate for the position of Secretary General of the League of The Western Isles but who also agreed with his government that Lesva did not currently need to have to seek that Lesva have its' own Secretary General to lead the League and thus did not seek to offer his candidacy, awaited for the League to finally conclude the process of choosing the new Secretary General, so that Initiva and other Lesvan representatives at the League could move forward with bringing about the issue of discrimination against Throngism to the League and to have the League fight for the defense of people holding Throngist views and their right to hold such views.

Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile

Palace of Nations, International City, January 4

After the Throngist Republic of Lesva had recalled its' Ambassador to The League of The Western Isles following the passage of Resolution 30, who then subsequently resigned after returning to Lesva, the Lesvan government-in-exile, which was recognized as the legitimate leadership of Lesva under international law by that same Resolution 30, now had a vacuum to fill as the legitimate representative of Lesva, a vacuum that was left by the Throngist regime.

Appointed Ambassador to The League of The Western Isles Agen Vopal and appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs Conti Suazena, both from the government-in-exile, arrived in International City, International District (ID), to visit the Palace of Nations, which is the Headquarters of The League of The Western Isles. Both wanted to accommodate and familiarize themselves with the international body, before Vopal returns here as Ambassador along with an appointed Lesvan delegation of diplomatic representatives, to officially represented the non-Throngist Lesvan Republic, even if the no-longer-recognized regime still physically remains in Saela.

Back when the government-in-exile was led by Pagala Ira, with Agen Vopal serving as head of government in the government-in-exile before its' incorporation of the Council of the President of the Republic of Lesva in exile and its' recognition by The League of The Western Isles, Vopal wanted to visit The League and call on the international community to reject the Throngist regime in Lesva, while knowing that Throngist Lesva's representatives would be present at The League. But for a representative of an unrecognized political body that would have been difficult to do. Having remembered this, Vopal appreciated how far things have progressed in a just direction.

Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile

International City, January 17

The plane carrying the newly appointed Ambassador of the Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile and the Republic of Lesva, the non-Throngist one, Agen Vopal, along with a delegation of diplomats of the Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile, landed in an airport in International City, International District. For the delegation it was the first visit, while for Vopal it was a second one. Vopal along with a delegation arrived to assume the duties of representing the non-Throngist Lesvan state - the Republic of Lesva, in the international body of the League of the Western Isles on behalf of the internationally recognized Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile, replacing the delegates of Throngist Lesva, who had abandoned the League of TWI following the passage of Resolution 30. A convoy came to pick up the Lesvan representatives and take them to the Palace of Nations, the HQ of the League of TWI.

Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile

International City, April 2nd

Out of session, Ari Paticim, Ambassador of The League of The Western Isles, and fellow delegates of the Government of the Lesvan Presidential Republic in exile (GLPRIE), were walking around International City and discussing many topics. Among them was the reshuffling within GLPRIE, as well as the Final Report by the Commission on the Fever Papers. Paticim and the delegation were discussing the announcement by ousted President Puicu Gevin, who declared that GLPRIE would not be appealing to The League of The Western Isles to inspect Lesva for biological weapon capability based on the findings of the Final Report and the information from Throngist regime's archives revealing truth, info that was passed by the current regime in Lesva about the preceding regime. Opinions varied and most of the delegation did not blindly accept the ousted President's delegation. In the end, Paticim and the delegation came to a consensus, at least a publicly voiced consensus, that the GLPRIE's delegation at The League would be supporting ousted President Gevin's position.
