In the mass convocation chamber, once a center of debate and democratic governance, the atmosphere was changed drastically during the last few months. More political power was concentrated in the governing directorate and the Supreme Paramount. The representatives of the Mass Convocation meanwhile had been stripped of much of their powers, instead becoming a rubber stamp for the policies of the Governing directorate.

Total elimination of the democratic opposition was still not quite possible, but the creeping totalitarianism made it seem like an inevitability.

In the raised podium at the center of the chamber sat the Governing directorate, with the Supreme Paramount Rit Malnos.

The 64 yearold stood up to address the chamber, wearing his usual deep purple robe with symbols embroided onto the soft fabric.

"And now finally is the all important vote on the Articles of the Star Republic which will officially replace the old constitution and allow for the formation of the Radu System Star Republic" said Rit with his usual tone of smug confidence.

Within moments the representatives voted using the panels situated in front of their seats. A large holographic projection then appeared in the center of the chamber showing the results

With the results displayed most of the chamber erupted into cheering and applause. Rit Malnos savored the victory. With the voting in of the new constitution, the new powers he had acquired were now enshrined in law becoming the defacto dictator of the star system, with a large amount of discretion to rule by decree when he saw fit.

The session of the Mass Convocation then ended and the representatives returned to their accommodation and daily business.

Rit left the chamber surrounded by his personal body guard and his colleague and political ally, the aged oligarch Ean Ovidi.

Ean was in his mid 70's and walked with a bit of a hunch, wearing a white robe with gold trim.

"Things are proceeding smoothly" said the old man

Rit smiled "Yes. It won't be long until we can crush the last remnants of the democratic opposition. The Revolutionists will be the first target, I already have a team ready to arrest their leader Mazir Sikal"

"And have you planned how to control the fall out from such a move, if you don't act carefully the planet could fall into civil war" warned Ean

The two stepped into a spacious glass elevator, Rit pressed a button and the elevator began to shoot up the towering skyscraper to the upper floors where the Supreme Paramount office and residence was located. The two stepped out into quite a luxurious suite. Floor to ceiling windows gave stunning views over the sprawling megatropolis of Tirest.

Rit sat down behind his desk and brought up a number of holographic interfaces which detailed the Radu system, its planets and nearby stars suitable for colonization.

"Crushing the opposition is just a side show" Said Rit, he then used a hand gesture to expand the holographic image of the local stellar neighborhood. "Expanding into the star's should be our prime agenda. Probes sent out to their nearby star's have revealed planets that we can colonize"

Ean was silent as he viewed the hologram "And how do we establish an effective interstellar transit system, we lack vital technologies to become a multi star nation"

"Yes that is true, but our scientists are making some great discoveries with a prototype hyper gate that can speed up travel between stars in a convenient amount of time. But we will need more funding if this line of research is to continue"

Ean sat back in the seat opposite Rit's desk "So I suppose you will be wanting some more donations from the Patrician's Union then?"

"Well that is one source of funding I was hoping to tap into for this project"

"Hmmm, well I will personally invest 100 million RaduCred's, I'll put the call out to the rest of the patrician's. I'm sure many will see the benefits of further development of this technology"

The HMGS Odyssey was on yet another exploration mission, hoping to map a system that has planets potentially colonizable or at least teraformable for the Confederation of Genoan Planets. The Odyssey is still a farelly new ship, despite the introduction of the Scimitar and Polaris class vessels, the Odyssey class was an essential part of Starfleet.

Captain Alfried Dreyfus was on the bridge as the Odyssey came out of warp. He has served in several wars including all four Genoan-Dominion wars. He was also son of the former king, now president, Cornelious Dreyfus.

His navigation officer said ''were in orbit of what appears to be a class M planet sir, this sector is unexplored by the Confederation, im mapping the system now''
He said ''good, get me a sensor scan of the planet and its orbit, let me know if you find anything''

Luko was the smallest of the system's three gas giant's, it looked like a blue hazy ball. The Bulslovian's had yet the technology to develop this planet but it was teeming with orbital probes, sensors and scout probes on the surface of a few of the small rocky moons in orbit.

The arrival of the alien ship into the system sent sensors of several of the orbital probes to being emitting signals. The system was designed as an early warning system for potentially hazardous asteroids entering the system, but after an anomalous signal picked up earlier in the year, the probes had been upgraded with new scanning equipment, able to better identify "intelligent" incomers to the system.

The probes quickly relayed the new information to the HQ of the Radu System Space Agency, back on the planet Bulslov.

The Supreme Paramount Rit Malnos poured himself a glass of Bulslovian Ale while viewing the various consoles that projected holographic images of the state of the system.

One holographic image displayed plans for a new orbital station city to be constructed around Milea, the second largest gas giant and 4th planet from Radu. Rit approved the plans with a tap of the holographic screen then waved it off to bring up a projection of the state of the system economy. Rit typed on a holographic keyboard infront of him.

[Allocate more funds to space industry and infrastructure. Increase level of clone labor to assist the construction of new space infrastructure] Rit then moved the holographic screen to the side which brought up another one projecting new designs for a proper space fleet to defend the system. Rit approved the new budget and projects.

Just then a flashing light began to emit from one of the consoles. Rit opened up the message which was a holocall from Arad Malu the chief of the Space Agency.

"Yes what is it?" said Rit, he knew the news would be important

'Outpost probes around Luko have picked up another anomalous signal and incoming object that show strong indications of being intelligent'

Rit took a deep breath, exhaling slowly "Send a message to this incoming object, your standard protocol. I want live updates. Report back to me when you know more"

The Space Agency chief nodded before Rit closed the message and shut down the holographs to stand up from his desk. He walked over to one of the large window's over the night time panorama of the Tirest skyline. In a distance he could see a large holographic billboard displaying him deliver one of his recent speeches in the Mass Convocation.

The Odyssey was moving at full impulse towards the inner part of the system when she recieved the transmission. At 1,100 meters in length she was a large vessel, and also armed to the teeth. Her sensors picked up the probes as well as multiple cities on the planet

The Odysseys deflector shields came online, creating a protective bubble around the ship,which would stop energy and projectile weaponry alike.

The incoming frequency was put through several translation programs which conveyed Captain Alfrieds message accurately.

Arad Malu viewed the message then tapped away on some holographic monitors to begin a holovid message to the approaching ship. Programs quickly filtered and studies Captain Alfrieds message and updated their language and translation capabilities so that Bulslovian messages would produce real time translation.

"Yes, the incoming anomaly is an exploration vessel from the Confederation of Genoan Planets. The vessel is under the control of Captain Alfried"

'Interesting. And what is their demeanor, is it hostile?'

"Well they are certainly capable of doing a lot of damage. They say their mission is to explore the system for colonization planets"

'Colonize?'

"Yes, I'm not sure if they knew there was a technological civilization in this system. In any case the olive branch has been extended, we have asked if they want to resupply their ship and land on the planet"

Rit was silent on the other end for a moment 'If they decide to visit and land on our humble system capital, I would very much like to meet with them personally'

"yes, I will make sure they know that, if they decide to take a rest stop on the planet"

The Odyssey was now approaching the 2nd planet from the star, her impulse being more advanced than that of most genoan ships,she was a fast vessel for her size, and incredibly agile. She was clearly not even worried about the systems defenses, though her phasers were ready to go.

Alfried said ''I will be sending an away team to the second planet in this system, if you wish to open a diplomatic channel with the Confederation have someone meet us there, i warn you they will be well armed''

The Radu System Space Agency transmitted coordinates to the alien exploration vessel of where they would be able to meet.

Sky Spires was chosen as the location to allow the aliens to land. It was one of the floating cities that the planets elite class lives in. Sky Spires was owned and operated by Ean Ovidi the oligarch and leader of the Patricians Union. The residents were given sudden notice that they would have to evacuate the floating city for 48 hours. Many complied, got into their luxury space yachts or private flying vehicles and went to some of their other residences on the planet.

The central courtyard of the floating city was cleared and prepared for the arrival of the Genoan's. Rit Malnos was transported along with Arad Malu to the floating city. Below the floating city was the rest of the sprawling city of Tirest on the planet's surface.

"Instruct the Sky Spire operators to raise the city higher into the atmosphere, but at a height where breathing is still comfortable" ordered Rit as he waited in the lobby of an elite class hotel sky scraper in front of the central courtyard of the floating city. The floating city began to slowly rise higher and higher above Tirest until they went above some thick whispy clouds....

The Odyssey was holding position over the planet as the shuttle was approaching, the Captain, his science officer and lover, Commander Alexia Williams, and four security officers were on board. They were all equipped with the deadly Valon T disrupter, which would disinitigrate a person hit from the inside out, a painful death as it wasnt immediate disentigration but rather slow. Even worse it is a pistol, meaning ut was portable.

Captain Alfried said ''When we hit ground be ready for anything, dont fire unless fired upon, but if they fire shoot to kill''

The shuttle came in sight of the city, it was an impressive sight, but they had recentky seen a precursor station thosands of kilometers in size, this was nothing in comparison.

Arad Malu and several armed guards looked up at the sky as the approaching shuttle came in closer to land in the central courtyard plaza. Towers between 50 to 80 stories surrounded the square on all sides. Arad stepped into the lobby of the luxury hotel.

"Supreme Paramount. The alien shuttle is about to arrive"

Rit Malnos slowly stood up from the red couch he was reclining on. Brushed off his robe and then slowly made his way outside.

"Are you sure this is a good idea Supreme Paramount? They could be hostile, you endanger yourself by wanting to be here in person"

"Oh nonsense Arad, if there is going to be a first contact event it is absolutely important that I am present at such a historic event. Besides I think meeting with these exotic alien explorer's would be most interesting. Where are the goodwill gifts?"

Two guards pulled out a massive crate from one of the back rooms

"Here it is Supreme Paramount. Bulslovian Ale, Some Canyon Fungis food, some Crimson Root's and other food stuffs as well as two containers of fresh water from Bulslov's northern ice cap, a sample of Bulslovian soil and rock's as well as a jeweled ornament" said one of the guards holding up the crate.

"Excellent, we will present it as a gift to these explorers as a token of goodwill"

The shuttle swooped in and started slowly descending, its impulse engines lowering it gently and with pinpoint precision. As it landed the side door opened and Captain Alfried exited, Valon T on his belt, followed by the security officers and Commander Alexia. He said ''hello, i am Captain Alfried Dreyfus of the starship Odyssey''

As Captain Alfried and his entourage emerged from the shuttle, Rit was surprised and shocked they were humanoids similar to himself. It appears the texts of the ancients speaking of other human species among the stars was true after all.

Rit approached the captain "Welcome to the planet Bulslov, capital of the Radu Star Republic. I am the recently elected Supreme Paramount and leader of the Radu Star Republic, I believe your already a little acquainted with Arad Malu my minister for interstellar affairs and chief of the Space Agency. As a token of goodwill and affirm our committeemen in developing as a peaceful civilization please accept this crate of gifts" two of the Supreme Paramounts body guard, wearing a deep crimson uniform carried over the crates containing foodstuffs, ale, trinkets and some technology (A small collection of data pads describing the history and culture of the Radu System, as well as linguistic software for seamless translation during diplomatic contacts)

OOC: An exploration vessel from the Confederacy of Genoan Planets has entered the Radu System. The ship's captain and the head of the Radu System government has made contact and are meeting on the planet. As for the goal of the RP, hmmm it was really just to get more into FT role play. So from whatever comes of that, who knows. Also this FT civ is still confined to its home star system and has no formal diplomatic contacts with any other FT nation so ending the RP with some entrance level exopolitical/diplomatic stuff between more star nations/empires would be good. In other words its open. But Its not intended as some space war RP, I'm not after any space battles, at least not yet anyway.

Rit was aware of the captain's eye movements observing the area and body language. The two entered the elite hotel lobby which had a restaurant bar lounge area with exotic and expensive chair and tables. All the furniture had a central theme of ornate engraved patterns on them. An assistant poured glasses of later and brought out a plate of dried fungi that had been cultivated in the planets underground network of cavern's and cave systems.

Rit took a seat and grabbed one of the dried fungi bits, chucking it back into his mouth

"You seem tense is everything alright? You can relax, you are in no danger at all. We are really a harmless civilization.... At this point I would say you already know more about us then we know of you, so what of the civilization you and your ship originate from? How is life in the Confederacy of Genoan Planets eh?"

Rit relaxed into his seat and gulped down a mouthful of water from the glass....

Elsewhere, rumors were already circulating on the planets internet system that first contact was occurring with wild conspiracy theories about why Elite Spires was evacuated at such short notice and while the Supreme Paramount and the Minister of Interstellar affairs and the space agency are there. The Mainstream media blaring out over the holographic billboards on the major cities did its best to reassure the public that a conference was being held on huge investment in space industry within the next few years....

Rit relaxed into his seat and gulped down a mouthful of water from the glass....

Elsewhere, rumors were already circulating on the planets internet system that first contact was occurring with wild conspiracy theories about why Elite Spires was evacuated at such short notice and while the Supreme Paramount and the Minister of Interstellar affairs and the space agency are there. The Mainstream media blaring out over the holographic billboards on the major cities did its best to reassure the public that a conference was being held on huge investment in space industry within the next few years....

"This all sounds very interesting indeed. But as you have probably gathered our civilization is confined to the planets orbiting around our sole star, Radu. We do however have probes orbiting worlds in other systems that we believe are suitable for colonization....." A smile slowly formed across Rit's face. "I'm not sure how much of the Avitus Nebula you have mapped, but we know there are hundreds of star's in the surrounding area in this part of the galaxy. We have mapped in detail five that were the best candidates for life and habitability"

Rit then pulled a small device out of a pocket in his robe which activated a small hologram displaying a three rocky terrestrial worlds, an asteroid belt and a gas giant orbiting around a star. Allowing the captain to see the holographic image before Rit closed it.

"It would be a shame if you returned to your home world without finding a habitable system for your people. You could allow us to help you in your mission? Not only will you return to your home world with news of contact with another humanoid civilization, but also the coordinates for a system that has favorable prospects for colonization. In return for the coordinates we would hope peaceful new, trade, diplomatic and technological paths may be opened up for both of our people" Rit then put the small holopad device on the ornate table and slowly slid if over to the captain

"Hopefully further peaceful contact will also enlighten the Bulslovian's as to what a precursor installation is, Ark and the other empires and species you are well acquainted with" finished Rit

A base for civilian and peaceful purposes like a joint space port on the edge of the Radu System that can facilitate transit, trade and diplomacy would be welcomed though"

Alfried said "we are unsure of what it's purpose was, although now it's a major shipyard and space station of the Confederation now, and a source of our newest technology, it belong to an extinct and highly advanced race we call the precursors, the size of their empire we can only begin to comprehend"

He flipped his head and a helmet instantly covered his head, and he said "it's been a nice chat"

Rit nodded at the captain then turned to the row of assistants and officials that stood at the back of the sumptuous lounge.

"Ambassador Nikoris, I can think of no one better for the task of representing out people before an interstellar civilization" said Rit to a tall man, made taller with a cone like head piece and blue robes. The ambassador bowed his head to Rit and followed the Captain to the shuttle.

Rit then went into a back room where he spoke to his security chief and another assistant

"So elaborate on this urgent business?" asked Rit

"It appears Mazir Sikal, leader of the Revolutionist faction in the Mass Convocation has broadcast a damning manifesto of our government. He fled the Mass Convocation chamber after his speech and is currently in hiding, but he have detained all the Revolutionists represented in the Mass Convocation"

"I see" Rit was silent for a moment "Is there anything else?"

"It appears there are some demonstrations breaking out in a few cities in support of Mazir Sikal"

"Well thanks to the new emergency powers I will have the Mass Convocation dissolved while I personally oversee its reorganization. Until then all of the chambers powers are to be transferred to me and I shall rule by decree. As for the rest of the opposition bloc, I want their leaders arrested, Lira Binesh, Imro Sorak, all of them"

"I will call for an emergency session of the Mass Convocation at once"

"Good. Ready my shuttle to depart" Rit then left the backroom, his security chief and assistants in tow. He passed the captain as he left

"Enjoy your time in the Radu System" said Rit before leaving to be escorted off the floating city and down to the main ground city of Tirest.....

In Galaxy XD-420, Imperial Grand Admiral Natasha Romanova's fleet was expanding the empire in a spiral arm. Her mission was to establish a colony and expand the Aurician territory. Personally, she wanted to establish for herself a duchy, which would require the Emperor's approval, as well as the creation of rather valuable colonies to use as her demesne.

Consisting of a single Auricium class mothership, 40 super dreadnoughts, 50 battle-cruisers, and 100 pi-cruisers, Grand Admiral Romanova set off from Gate-XD-420. First she had to find the Galactic Holodex, left eons ago by explorers, who knew the Auricians would return. Locating the beacon world, in the Cal'drac system, her ships set forth. The Galactic Holodex presumably contained an index of all the species in the entire galaxy, as well as a star map. Maintained by AIs, who constantly sent out probes to update its knowledge, the Holedex was constantly updated. Accessible only by the Imperial Family and those given explicit permission, they were one of the most closely guarded secrets in the Empire. Falling into another's hands could spell disaster, they contained within them concepts beyond the understanding of most species.

Arriving at the Cal'drac system only moments later, she hovered over the beacon world. Descending onto the planet's surface, she immediately identified the vault. A large, metallic pyramid, with a sapphire capstone, sheathed in platinum, she stood at its entrance. Using the key to enter, the Grand Admiral entered the labyrinth.

The AI in charge of the Holodex in galaxy XD-420 was known simply as the "Responder". Humorous, he loved playing pranks albeit harmless on visiting Grand Admirals and other dignitaries, as well as his fellow AIs, who were all connected to something known as the "network"

The Mass Convocation chamber was currently in an emergency session as Rit Malnos spoke to all the delegates. The leaders of three of the opposition factions were currently detained with one on the run as a fugitive. Only the Neutralists led by Natarina Somex were left in the Mass Convocation.

As Rit spoke a massive holographic projection of himself dominated the space in the center of the convocation chamber.

"Due to the treachery of the opposition faction to engage in conspiracy and crimes against the state, I will formerly dissolve the Mass Convocation, transferring all its powers into the governing directorate and the office of Supreme Paramount. The Mass Convocation will reconvene once it undergoes a period of reorganization"

The Absolutist faction which dominated the chamber gave a standing ovation and booed and shouted down anyone else that attempted to oppose the move. With that the chamber ended the session and Rit entered his office, sitting behind a desk and began pulling up more holographic interfaces to show the state of the Radu System. One flashing message caught his attention which he promptly pulled up.

"hmmm" Rit read through the holographic message which appeared to display a message from one of the deep space explorer probes that was approaching the outskirts of an unknown system in the same star neighborhood as the Radu System

"More strange and anomalous signals eh?" Rit send instructed to the deep space explorer probe to investigate further. The probe began to extend its scanning capabilities and began to move slowly through the system towards the planet where the anomalous signals were located on and around the planet.....

The Responder sensed that the Grand Admiral was coming. He had prepared to collect a satellite probe from the nearby Radu system. It would be fun to use it to trick her into thinking that one of its parts was the Galactic Holodex. He checked to make sure she didn't know what a Galactic Holodex looked like. She definitely wasn't Grand Admiral Guanli Shen, who had visited years ago to establish colonies and provinces in some other arm of the Galaxy. She was recently promoted and given a brand new fleet and mothership. He pondered what she would do with it. She wasn't cut from the same cloth as the previous admiral, a member of one of the Imperial Families. Probably a minor noble or civilian who had worked their way up from the bottom, meaning that they were highly skilled at what they did.

This was going to be fun.

"This is Grand Admiral Natasha Romanova. I come here from the AISA. We need the Galactic Holodex for communication." Knocking on the door, the Grand Admiral waited for a response. "Ugh... why must these things take so long. Returning to the shuttle, she ordered a squad to stand guard and tell here when the "lazy-ass AI decided to wake up and let them in to collect the Holodex." Taking to her shuttle, she planned her operations and colonial mission. She planned on taking several planets in the nearby region to establish a research colony, that would turn into one of the major research hubs of the empire, bringing much wealth and prosperity to her family in the process.
