The ship set on land, and the ho-hum sound of rowing stopped. While steam would be better used, the engine had broken, and none had the materials to fix it; this had been a fairly makeshift voyage in the first place, as they didn't even know where they were going, nor did they know there was land here. The ship sat for a moment, the people staring in disbelief, until some ran from the ship, sloshing through the water, and arrived on the beach. They fell to their knees, and turned their gaunt faces to the sky, praising their many assorted gods. The others, after placing a gangplank, rolled the remaining casks of whiskey down, and proceeded to drain the casks.

For the next few hours, they did naught but drunkenly shout and revel and dance. And that they did wholeheartedly. However, after their drunken happiness, they knew they must do hard work, and now, before some crazy warlord threw them out before they even got settled. From the ship, they brought all of the Baker muskets from the hold, as well as small, 3 lb cannon. They brought the rifle cartridges, and established a rough perimeter around the ship's landing area. The next to come were the pre-created mud thatch bricks, as well as palisades. Axes were immediately removed from the hold, and they began to removed the trees, stripping the trunks from the ground with a mixture of shovels and two-handed axes. The ground was then patted down, all square mile of it. Then, they established palisades in a rough circle formation, allowing the colonists to have the sea at the rear, a semi-strategic position.

In the palisade, slits were cut, just large enough to fire a bullet through. This was useful to fire without exposing oneself. The cannon were placed at similar areas, only with larger slits. From there, multiple buildings were building, arranged in a block form, so as to make an easily memorable defensive pattern. It was basic, that could not be argued against it, however. There were no official soldiers of the Federacy in the colony, save for a select few of the colonists who carried their muskets and hunting rifles. But it is not to be believed they were not experts. The ships that had brought them, the Agla, Memos, and Talapa, all of which were frigates.

There they stayed for three weeks, until an official notice was sent to the king. It read: "We have created a complete settlement, and haven't encountered any native peoples. It appears to be safe enough for you to send a governor to lead us."

It took a few months for a reply, but the reply came with the new governor, an honest man, by the name of Thomas Smith. He was compassionate, and would do anything to save his friends. And that is what the colonists became. He was sent by the king to survey the land, and give a report to the king; a mission he would do, as he and the king were hunting companions, and were commonly seen hunting wild fowl.

For a while, things were going fine, but then they met the natives things changed...

The Death Guard. It was the most prestigious military unit on the island. With their black cleanly pressed uniforms and golden cuffs, they were the most experienced soldiers, hunters, and most of all cold and efficient killers. Armed with revolving muskets, knives, swords, and pistols they crept through the jungle observing these new men. For months they waited and watched, learned how these men communicated and acted. Then they reported to the High Council of Curahee. These wise men decided to send in an ambassador accompanied by the Death Guard.

They were neatly dressed as they marched to the fort. The ambassador was dressed in a blue uniform, the Ojavan's color of peace and friendship. The commanders of the Death Guard ordered their men to carry bundles of gifts. This path down from Mount Delanx was a treacherous path with many booby traps and beasts. But these brave soldiers persevered and finally after many hours of sweat they made it down. When they got there they unloaded gifts of gold and goods, including various spices, swords, statues, and muskets. Then they waited for a reply.

Roger Carkland stood at a tower, which overlooked the newly-created valley. It was mainly constructed from the timber that had just been hacked apart, strewn with some stones, joined by a almost lacking amount of mortar. Roger's spyglass couldn't penetrate the thick upper foliage of the forest. Besides, it was drizzling lightly.

But what Roger did see was what appeared to be a mass of beasts stampeding through the trees, disturbing the trees overmuch. He expected to encounter an army, and smacked the drum that stood next to him once. It wasn't necessarily a drum, but a massive wide, wooden bowl, covered by a thick, dry boar's skin. The sound it made was similar to that of a higher quality.

Below Roger, things went awry quickly, as the colonists, referred to as "Minutemen", rushed, about; they were preparing themselves. Roger himself raised his rifle, pointing it at the nearest movement he could see. He knew at this range he was unlikely to score his mark, considering the inaccuracy of his rifle; it was the thought that mattered, really.

From the forest emerged a light brown(?) man, glistening with sweat from what appeared to be a long march in the high humidity of the rainforest, that cursed humidity, ruining stores of gunpowder, vital gunpowder; the man wore clean, black clothing with golden cuffs. He was extremely muscled, and carried a musket, a knife, and countless other apparatuses. Behind him, a man who could have been fit, but had become stout from what appeared to be a decent time of good living. The man wore blue clothing, which was a sign of love in the to-be Order.

Behind them came multiple muscled men, possibly slaves, carried stretchers (?), loaded with various goods, ranging from muskets to spices and fine silks. At this last group, Roger slung his rifle around his shoulder, useful as a 'peaceful' stance, but allowing easy access to use his rifle, if necessary. He also loaded his pistol he had bought at an earlier age with money gained from aiding in the king's stable, and placed it in his holster.

He descended from the tower, just in time to see the colonists rush to the rifle slits, and maneuver their barrels through the holes. However, when they noticed the gifts, they backed off, sending a couple to alert the governor. And he came, dressed in fairly average attire, short trousers and stockings, with a dark linen tunic, and strode in a jaunty fashion, not caring about public appearance. At his side was a small silver-adorned pistol, for show more than anything, hastily stuffed into the holster that hung from his hip.

Arriving at the gate, Thomas Smith observed the newcomers, and yelled, "Open the gate. They believe themselves shunned, not being graced by our sparse comfort!" The timbers opened, and he quickly sized up the visitors. The foremost, a man dressed in black pressed clothing, appeared to be well-trained, and would provide a problem in a fight. However, he was likely not too intelligent, and would not stand in a debate with one such as Thomas. Thomas' vision shifted to the man in blue, who carried a self-confident mien about him. He was not one who would serve well in battle, however, he would give a contest to Thomas, this was the one who he would speak to. Thomas didn't give those carrying the load a second look; they were likely slaves, incompetent and unintelligent.

Thomas strode to the emissary, and raised his right hand, with his thumb, index, and middle fingers raised, while his other two fingers were lowered. This was a formal greeting within the to-be Order. He said, "I assume you speak Common? If so, might we get to the matter at hand? Who are you, and where do you come from?"

Zlex smiled, the porterly (?) man in front of him spoke in another language, but the Death Guard had observed and explained the language to him.
"Well, I speak a little bit of it. I learned by observing your men. We speak in a language called pawot, but that does not matter," said Alex shaking the other man's hand," we are the natives on this island and the soldiers with me are one of the best fighting units on the island. We would like to help you expand on this island on the terms that we stay an independent nation from your's. By the way my name Is Zlex Drethin. We would also be intrested if we could learn your ways and..."

William Tithic was the Captain of the Death Guard. He watched the two diplomats talk and was bored. He started observing the defenses, palisades with slits. That was interesting, the walls couldn't be very thick only one or to normal shot could take them out as the would surely want their troop's to be able to have a wider firing line. Even if they were thick the would have to leave enough room for 2 columns of men to pass through their firing sight. Unless... unless the slits were curved on the inside to make for... Zlex motioned for him to come over.
"William, this is Mr. Thomas by the way, Mr. Thomas, this is William Tithic of the Death Guard," said Zlex, "He would like to discuss some military ideas with your Generals if that could be arranged. You know that there are other smaller nations that might... not be as friendly as us if you know what I mean."

ooc: We would look something like http://wh40k.lexicanum.com/mediawiki/im ... ghters.jpg without the big guns and more civilized and maybe a shade darker so it doesn't matter.. There weren't any slaves, just soldiers from a lesser uniform, and they carried sacks not stretchers. Just some minor suggestions...
