Nammarth Update
Admiralty reports rogue frigate seized by special forces

In a daring night raid by Special Forces combat swimmers, the frigate Nammarth has been retaken, according to an announcement published by the Admiralty.

The swimmers approached the ship from underwater, having been deployed from the shadowing ships. The swimmers then boarded the vessel from amidships and the aft helicopter deck before moving into the interior using tear gas and less-than-lethal weapons. After the raid, over twenty people were reported killed and another forty to have varying degrees of injury. Of the 200 crewmen assigned to the ship, less than two-thirds have been accounted for, with the Captain, Vice Captain and several other officers among those missing.

The Nammarth is now reportedly under tow en route to Kahului Naval Base in Hemar, where a full inquiry has already been impaneled to determine what happened aboard the vessel.

Operation Northern Veil 2017: 14 Days of Mountain Warfare Field Exercises
Mátészalka, Mátészalka District

Image
Soldiers of the Army’s 4th Mountain Division, supported by an IFV, advancing at the start of the exercise yesterday evening.

The second largest annual military exercise in Ruvelka just began yesterday morning 22 August 2017. Battalions of troops, columns of armored vehicles, and formations of aircraft and helicopters have been arriving for days in the fortress city of Mátészalka in northern Ruvelka to begin preparing for the fourteen day operation. With an approximate 200,000 troops expected to be deployed, Northern Veil 2017 will mark the largest mobilization of Ruvelkan forces for a military exercise since Operation Ice and Fire 1996 under Captain-General Petrá Nemes.

The exercise, pitting large contingents of the Imperial Fusiliers as an "Elite Opposing Force" against a defending Imperial Army and Air Force, focuses on simulating a summer season invasion of the Principality from its mountainous northern border. Captain-General Elsa Szekeres and the Generals’ Council, in conjunction with Army Commander Ártemízíá Sámsá and Fusilier Commander Edviná Molnár, have been coordinating the plans for the exercise since the conclusion of Operation Southern Spear earlier this April.

The size of the exercises has completely maxed out housing at both Army Base Mátészalka and Mátészalka Fusilier Staging Base; additional prefabricated housing had to be erected to accommodate the large contingent of analysts and strategists. Residents of the city and surrounding towns, some of which have been selected to participate as a civilian element in the exercise, have been advised that blank-firing weapons and cannons would be in use to best simulate the realism of the scenario.

Mission objectives and scenarios, primarily taking place in the sky and on the ground, are meant to test the effectiveness of the Army and Air Force against a more experienced and capable opponent. "Analyzing the efficiency of our armed forces is important in the development of strategies in the ever-changing modern battlefield," commented General Sámsá, "It is important that the men and women of our Armed Forces are as proficient as they can be, thereby—in the event we are required to perform our sacred duty—they are ready."

Captain-General Szekeres has confirmed that, depending on the results of Northern Veil, the Generals’ Council and the commanders of the Ruvelkan Armed Forces plan to increase the size of participating units during Operation Ice and Fire projected for December of this year.

Night of Fire: Explosions Rock the Port of Haigia

Image
GIF Image of the second explosion taken from a resident in the Dong Quang Apartment Complex.

In the late hours of September 5, the port city of Haigia was met with a series of explosions that sent a shockwave that kept the whole city awake for hours. These explosions originated from a chemical storage facility within the port, of which the blaze there is still continuing to rage. The first one occurred on 11:49 PM, measuring an equivalent of four tons of TNT, before a subsequent one occurred almost 40 seconds later, surpassing the first one by 20 tons. Present sources at the moment say that a sudden fire consumed large storages of hazardous chemicals belonging to the Sanam Group and Nguy Tien Chemicals has been the cause of the disaster, and any attempts by the city's fire department to suppress the flames have somewhat failed, if not exacerbated it. However, a further set of investigations that will give more insight into the progression of the disaster will occur once most of the fire has subsided.

The exact amount of damage the port has been inflicted, according to the current information that we have been provided with, consists of eight buildings held by several logistics companies being destroyed, over 10,000 cars from several different companies burned, and a myriad of intermodal containers thrown about the complex. As for the surrounding area, no buildings have been inflicted very badly, but the case of broken glass has been prevalent all around, which has contributed to families relocating temporarily to campsites established by the Quenminese Red Cross.

The death count so far has reached 78, and the injury count 305, although these numbers are expected to rise in the coming days.

In a conference today regarding the explosion, Chairman Liễu Tấn Minh of the Department of Chemical and Biological Technology has announced that he will be participating in a investigation with a team of 200 chemical specialists with the purpose of assessing the current situation around the blast site in order to ensure whether the city is susceptible to a rise in toxicity levels or not.

Recent reports from the Haigia Fire Department have stated that the fire is slowly beginning to get under control and is anticipated to be doused out at 8:50 at night. At that time when rescue operations will still be underway, the team, comprised of 200 specialists from the government, companies, various universities, the military, and Tấn Minh, will be installed on the site to carry out their intended goal.

"As my duty as Chairman of the Department, it is an obligation to head out to the site to investigate the possibility of a dangerous situation, so that we may ensure that the welfare of the people of Hiagia is secured and ensured," he said in his opening remarks.

He will be meeting up with several specialists at the Cao Khoát International Airport, and will travel via private jet at 8:45. The investigation, according to his answers, will take about 2 hours at most, due to the magnitude of the damage, with the results being released tomorrow at 8:30 AM.

Number of People Settling in Temporary Housing Reaches 6,745

Image
New arrivals taking an evening nap

As new people afflicted by the explosion begin to fill in spaces for the treatment and temporary housing centers, the resounding problem of overpopulation continues to present itself to the Red Cross, and other hospitals contributing the care of the incapacitated.

Today at this very moment, it has been recorded that 6,745 people are being relocated from their vitiated residences to any center designated by the authorities. While it is the duty of any treatment and temporary housing centers to take them in, the center staff members have begun to question the space they have left.

"We simply do not have enough equipment to effectively take care of the new arrivals coming in. Even though it's our obligation to shelter them by any possible and plausible means on the spot, I don't think that we'll be able to take in more," says staff worker Nguyễn Bình Chiến.

In spite of this, hospitals such as the Hiếu Nghiêm, and the Khúc Chiêm Tông Medical Center, are willing to shelter in more people in place of the treatment and temporary housing centers, claiming that they have more room they can settle in.

"Those coming in from the blast radius are welcome to stay in for the days to come, and we are willing help them at the best of our abilities," says Khúc Chiêm Tông Medical Center nurse Kiều Kim Giang.

It is expected that those sheltering in will be returning to their homes once the blast site has been decontaminated and each of their compensations from the government and various companies associated with the blast have been received.

Chief Staffs of Ong Khoat and Seaside Logistics, and the Financial Staffs of Nguy Tien and Sanam to Attend Hearing Tomorrow

Today, it has been confirmed that the chief and financial staves of the Ong Khoat, Seaside, NguTien and Sanam, aside from the city's officials associated with the matter, will be attending a hearing organized by the Tien Cong and Quan Phat Kinh Committees, and several members of the Parliamentary Oversight Committee who have volunteered to attend, including Nguyễn Ly Hyùnh, the Countess of Tế Giang.

Investigative reports have revealed that the chemical storage facility has been situated too close to the residential areas of the port district, specifically 0.7 kilometers near. Prior to the one-kilometer safety rule established for companies constructing such facilities of any kind in 1993, the owner of the now-obliterated storage facility, the Ong Khoat Logistics Company, has been suspected of deliberately neglecting the protocol though illicit means; such means in particular were bribes and report counterfeiting. Further explanation will ensue when they will be asked questions on the matter tomorrow.

The second company, Seaside Logistics is one of the well-known logistics companies that possesses another storage facility northwest of Ong Khoat's. The resounding question revolving around this certain company is the matter of why did they not take any necessary action against Ong Khoat for deviating from the imposed regulation. It is also suspected, with much conviction, that they were susceptible to taking and proposing bribes from the first mentioned company and some of the city's officials to keep the activities secluded from the public and the government. The revelation of the crimes and the answers to the said question, however, will either be proved or not when the chief staff of the company is inquired.

In addition to the said presumed accusations, Nguy Tien has also been suspected in participating in such activities. According to alleged reports of them contacting the Logistics Company on storing dangerous chemicals at a huge capacity, it is postulated that the company has been offering bribes to the mentioned logistics company to expand their space. The purpose of this motion and the uncovering of such is to be determined if their staff is called upon by the hearing.

Finally, the Sanam Group has a different set of claims on its hands. While the company has been known to capitalize on ammonium nitrate, one of the chemical compositions that is utilized as a fertilizer, and of the fact that they have had 400 tons of the material stored in Haigia (another 450 of this material is owned by Nguy Tien), all that is known so far is that the company took the opportunity of Ong Khoat providing more storage space to ensure the delivery of the aforementioned product to a source is on schedule. Further explanations on their notion will be brought up in the subsequent hearing.

The hearing is planned to commence on September 14, with the durations of every daily trial lasting from 9:20 AM to 12:20 PM and 2:00 to 6:30 PM (time is in QST)--all the times listed hold recesses negligible (see the full schedule posted on the Select Committee's webpage.

A Shocking Revelation: Ong Khoat, Seaside Logistics, and Nguy Tien Revealed to Have Partaken in Illicit Actions, Sanam Group Found Innocent, Officials of the Haigia City Government Accused of Dereliction of Duty and Abuse of Power

At the hearing concerning the explosions in Haigia, it has been revealed by several defendants of Ong Khoat, Seaside Logistics, and Nguy Tien that their respective companies have indeed been engaging in bribes and sending fraudulent reports to the government of Haigia ever since Ong Khoat has established their storage facility in 2013.

In the first day of and within halfway into the hearing, the statements made by each member of the chief staffs of the companies haven given the Select Committee a difficult time in exposing the definitive causes behind the deliberate, if not also careless, incentives to position the port near the residential areas of the Haigia Port Area. Due to the vague and vexing answers they would often enunciate, it has been evident at times that the true answers would not be revealed for a long time, as was observed by several members of the aforementioned Committee expressing their repressed or open frustrations on several occasions. However, in light of the evidence provided by Trương Xuân Chiến, CDO (Chief Data Officer) of Ong Khoat, Mạc Công Triều, CDO of Seaside, and Nguyễn Thị Diệp, Secretary to Nguy Tien's CEO Đỗ Khiêm Dào Han, in which there were confidential reports and emails, and covert recordings concerning their cohorts, it was finally proven that Ong Khoat was indeed the primary cause of starting and preserving the financial scandal, with Seaside and Nguy Tien further consolidating the company's motive on illegally expanding their storage areas and property, and misinforming the Haigia government of their doings.

The now accused defendants are anticipated to receive prison sentences in a trial occurring on the day after tomorrow, on September 20. As for Chiến, Triều, and Diệp, they are now expected to be pardoned from obtaining sentences for opening up, although they are still to be kept under the attention of the Committee to be further questioned on the causes of the explosions.

The Sanam Group has been proven to be innocent of any financial offenses, due to their obliviousness of the intentions of the said companies. To elaborate in further detail, the Viscountess and Lê Tuyến Thien--CEO and CFO of the conglomerate, respectively--have admitted that they were unaware of the facts that Ong Khoat has been offering and accepting bribes towards and from the said two companies, and that, as they have stated in a press conference on the 7th of September, they saw the opportunity to meet their quota of delivering 400 tons of ammonium nitrate towards several of their farms and various stores and supermarkets that would sell their products. Therefore, with regards to the Select Committee, they are pardoned from receiving a sentence similar to that of the chief staffs of the three companies.

However, this relieving decree does not mean that they are to be left without a suitable compensation to be made, due to the fact that they have imported the stated amount of the material and were oblivious to the intentions of the companies and the safety hazards of the site. As a consequence, their company will be contributing to the repurchasing and reconstruction of damaged residences, and the compensation of residents afflicted by the disaster, with a reparation totaling Ѧ30.14 million.

Last but not least, city government officials of the Infrastructure Department Giang Hiếu Ý, Lê Nguyên Bảo, and Trần Kiều Mai, have been proven to be accounted for dereliction of duties regarding Ong Khoat and Seaside's incentives on maintaining the former's fraudulent initiatives. The former has been accepting bribes to conceal Ong Khoat and Seaside's actions within the Port Area, while the latter two were persuaded to cancel their yearly investigations of the area and falsify their reports since 2013, pushing the claim there were "no troubles" within the said location, despite their co-workers informing them that there was something odd; this would also make them be accused of abuse of power.

It is also anticipated that they will receive prison sentences for their mishaps in the subsequent trial.

Haer to Send Aide Deployment to Stricken Haigia!

Image
Soldiers from the 307th Support Division board transports in Tritonsberg heading east

Following a round of negotiations and a referendum within High Kommand, a mission to deliver humanitarian aide to the beleaguered people of Haigia, Quenmin was finally approved. Though the events occurred two weeks ago, Supreme Chairman Monika Schefer's decision to send aide was both heavily supported and heavily contested by both High Kommand and the Council, due in no small part to bitter memory over the attempt to intervene in the Nalayan Civil War. The vote finally passed, however, and elements on standby are even now underway to be deployed.

"While people can debate and toss about who's at fault all day long, the end result is still that people are suffering and dying out there," says General Halvdan Koht, given command of the mission. "We're not going to decide who's right or wrong, we're going to rebuild a city and save some folks."

While details of the full deployment have been kept under wraps, the initial roster of units being dispatched includes the 91st Pioneers Brigade, 5th Military Police Regiment, 307th Support Division and the 48th Aviation Wing. While the 5th, 307th and elements of the 48th are set to arrive by strategic aircraft right into Haigia airport itself, the heavy elements of the 91st and 48th will require a naval deployment, set to arrive later on in the month.

We wish our warriors good tidings, and hope their mission of peace and recovery will help the Quenminese who have suffered from this most horrendous of events.

Within one day of the Haigia blast, Papa Lini pledged that the Mubatan government stood behind the people of Quenmin and was gravely concerned about the lives lost and affected by the disaster.

...We have nothing but respect and concern for our brothers and sisters in Quenmin and we will step forward where other Tyran governments will not. I pledge that we will be sending tons of food, supplies and money in order for them to rebuild in the wake of this horrible disaster at Haigia...

Papa Lini went on to proclaim what a solid friendship the people of Mubata and Quenmin had and how such a relationship had been put to the test lately by Tyrannic powers, but that Mubatans would fight to keep the bond strong, including sending as much aid as possible to the Haigia area.

The trouble is that not a single finger has been lifted by any Mubatan government agency in order to collect or ship such promised aid to Quenmin in the subsequent days that have passed since the speech of Papa Lini or the disaster itself. One official, when questioned anonymously, admitted that there were no plans to ship aid at all that he'd heard about. No materials or food has been collected to any central warehouses, no flights have left for Quenmin other than the regularly scheduled airlines that normally head out to that nation.

Clearly, President 'Papa Lini' Fazembe was confident that no one would actually call out that fact and that he would appear the hero to the people of Mubata, as well as several people around the region. That Fazembe would stoop to such tactics is not terribly surprising, but that he thought he could get away with it without anyone, within or outside the nation realizing that no actual aid was flowing out from the Republic is somewhat ludicrous, if it wasn't so disturbing. It is for these reasons, among many, that Mubata is an ostracized Republic and a pariah to the rest of the region.

As soon as the first crate is loaded onto a cargo plane, we shall let you know.

NOTE:
The Leopard is headquartered and published from Mishawaka, Gylias. Reporters and staff are from the large expatriate/exile community of Mubatans in Gylias, as well as other parts of Tyran. Some reports are smuggled out of Mubata itself at great personal risk to the contributors. There have been numerous requests by the Mubatan government to Gylias to shut down the opposition paper, claiming that it is filled with nothing but libel and that its sole purpose is to defame the Fazembe regime.

HIGH PROFILE MPs EJECTED FROM PARLIAMENT

September 30th 2017
ImageImageImageImage

The Deputy Prime Minister, the Former Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition were all ejected from the debating chamber of the House of Peasants today following a heated and bitter argument

ImageImage
Former Prime Minister Sir Anthony Ashton (left) and Deputy Prime Minister Izzy Yahweh (right) were ejected from Parliament for disorderly behaviour

Speaker Fran Baldwin ejected the three high profile MPs from the chamber for disorderly behaviour after a debate on the Prime Minister's campaign promises turned into a three-way ruckus between three of Alizeria's most well known political figures.

The argument began when Deputy Prime Minister Izzy Yahweh took exception at what he considered a poor line of questioning by Opposition Leader William Eastwood.

Things then took a turn for the bizarre when Former Prime Minister Anthony Ashton accidentally cited a ruling banning livestock from the floor of the chamber, and turned it into a quip at the expense of the National Party, for which he was promptly kicked out of the chamber.

Ashton's strange interjection resulted in a barrage of angry shouting from Izzy Yahweh, which turned into a shouting match between him and the Leader of the Opposition, which resulted in both men being ejected when the Speaker lost her patience at the childish behaviour.

Outside of the chamber the three appeared to have patched things up with William Eastwood posting a photograph on social media featuring all three men having a "calming cup of tea" together at a Parliamentary cafe.

"It's never personal. It's all the fun of the game," Said Sir Anthony Ashton when approached by reporters. "Politics is about 70% entertainment and only about 30% actual politics."

Other MPs were not so entertained with Left Alliance Leader Harry Fitzgerald condemning all three as engaging in "the kind of childish behaviour that turns the public off politics and leaves the rest of us dealing with all sorts of negative stereotypes."

Prime Minister Jennifer Dixon said that her Deputy's actions were "not particularly helpful, but asking Izzy Yahweh not to cause controversy is like asking the sun not to shine."

The full exchange can be found here.

Peter Wells ousted in NAP leadership election

Mao Yukimura, APBS News Online political correspondent

Image
Peter Wells has lost a leadership election for the
party he founded
Hirokazu Moriya has defeated Peter Wells in the New Akashi Party's leadership election today.

Mx. Moriya won the ballot with 2.500 votes from the party's members, against 1.196 for Mx. Wells.

Mx. Wells congratulated Mx. Moriya on his victory, but also announced he would be resigning from the party. As he is a party-list assemblymember, he will thus forfeit his seat, which will instead be filled from the NAP's party list.

Mx. Moriya, in his victory speech, thanked Mx. Wells for his service as leader, and stated: "[The party] must now look in the mirror and ask ourselves some very difficult questions, and ponder seriously the answers." He has announced a policy convention will be held next year, following a period of canvassing the public and members for ideas.

The leadership election marks the climax of a period of internal turmoil for the NAP. Founded by Mx. Wells in 1986, the party remarked itself for a good performance in the 1987 election, where it won 17 seats – one of the largest gains by a new party in an Akashian election.

However, subsequent years found the party entering a protracted decline. Its share of the vote declined from 8,17% in 1987 to a meagre 4,46% in 2003. A brief rebound in the next two elections could not take it beyond 5%. The membership stagnated, and then went into reverse as well, the approximately 40.000 strong members it had in 1988 shrinking to around 5.000 today.

The disastrous result of 2015, where the party narrowly avoided falling below the 3% threshold and was returned with only 6 seats, gave impetus to doubts among the rank and file whether Mx. Wells, their leader for nearly 30 years, was still capable of leading the party. Analysts had observed that his parliamentary performance had declined in the last decade, and he was in notably poor form during the last election's debate.

The combination of his struggles as leader with control over the party aroused discontent. His decision to have the party abstain from voting on the basic income and tax restructuring laws in April was cited by several party members as the last straw, beginning the path that led to the leadership election.

"When he announced that the party would abstain on the vote," New Akashi MNA Sōichirō Uegaki stated, "he announced to Akashians: 'our party is an irrelevance.' It was an immense self-inflicted wound."

Critics fault Mx. Wells for having maintained the party's nebulous, "radical centrist" identity; its opposition to free trade has at times led voters to perceive it as a single-issue party. During internal debates, Mx. Moriya and the other candidates repeatedly claimed that the party needed a clearer position and identity. Mx. Moriya, one of the party's 6 MNAs, indicated he would be open to bringing the party into closer cooperation with the Future Party and Social Credit Party, speaking of the possibility of an "alliance of small parties".

Some observers believe the ultimate result would be a repositioning of the NAP on the centre-left.

"Peter Wells was boxed in when it came to the basic income law," Professor Misao Anno of Akashi National University argues. "He would not align himself with the Conservatives in opposing it, but he was unwilling to support it either. However, the majority of the membership was in favour. This would indicate that, freed from the eccentricities of Mx. Wells' leadership, the party will find its sympathies lie more towards the left than the right."

Having survived for 30 years in the National Assembly, with the not-insignificant aid of Mx. Wells' personal wealth, the New Akashi Party will now be confronted with questions about its viability, and ability to rely solely on its members to carry on.

BUDGET 2017:
  • ALIZERIA TO INTRODUCE BASIC INCOME "PILOT PROGRAMME"
  • PM: "THE AGE OF AUSTERITY IS OVER."
  • OPPOSITION: "GIANT BRIBE COULD BANKRUPT ALIZERIA"

November 25th 2017

Chancellor of the Exchequer Izzy Yahweh today delivered the coalition government's first and much-awaited budget, with Prime Minister Jennifer Dixon calling it "a definite end to the age of austerity".

Image
Chancellor of the Exchequer Izzy Yahweh has delivered the Coalition's first budget

Chancellor Izzy Yahweh introduced a whopping 20 billion groats worth of new expenditure and tax cuts in a budget that he said marked the end of Alizeria's "failed neoliberal experiment".

Opposition leader William Eastwood has called the budget "maybe the biggest bribe in Alizerian history" and warned that "there is serious risk that this could bankrupt the country, especially if economic conditions change."

The centrepiece of the budget is an ambitious and unexpected universal basic income pilot programme, estimated to cost between 7 and 10 billion groats. While the programme is not considered a "basic income" to the extent of being enough to live off, the programme will mean that all Alizerians, regardless of income or employment status, will be entitled to 100 Groats per week, in the form of either a tax deduction or a direct transfer with Yahweh admitting that it represented a step towards UBI.

"Other nations in the region, such as the Republic of Akashi, are experimenting with the concept, and I think that Alizeria too should be a country willing to do what is necessary to rise to the challenges of the 21st century," Said Mr. Yahweh in his address. "A lot of Alizerians from all walks of life are seriously suffering as a result of the so-called freemarket reforms, and it's time to start putting things right."

The decision to include a UBI pilot programme surprised many commentators, as both Izzy Yahweh and Jennifer Dixon have spoken derisively of UBI in the past.

The other controversial aspect of the budget is the introduction of of a 0.1% financial transaction tax, which Yahweh claimed would generate "significant" amounts of revenue which cannot be evaded, and which would be coupled with a reduction in Goods and Services Tax to just 5%.

Other aspects of the budget were more predictable and in line with the existing policies of the coalition, with other significant parts of the budget including free eye exams for senior citizens, a major rural roading project, inflation adjustments to the unemployment benefit and old age pension, reduction of the foreign aid budget and the repurchase of a number of former state companies.

Opposition leader William Eastwood said that the budget, which consists of 20 billion groats worth of new expenditure "could potentially bankrupt Alizeria".

"This is an unprecedented level of recklessness. Effectively, Izzy Yahweh - concerned that he's down in the polls - has decided to bribe Alizerians and is using their money to pay for it. After all the effort we went through to get our budget back into surplus and to modernise the economy, he's throwing it away for political gain - and the Conservative Party are letting him get away with it when they know it's wrong!"

However Prime Minister Jennifer Dixon defended the budget, and said that "While the Liberals say we might end up bankrupt, they conveniently forget that last time they were in government, Alizeria did end up bankrupt.

"The fact is that this budget is the result of a productive economy and increased GDP growth delivered thanks to the Conservative Party's management of the economy, and I acknowledge initiatives presented by our coalition partners the National Party. This marks a definite end to the age of austerity and I know the people of Alizeria will welcome this."

Left Alliance leader Harry Fitzgerald said that his party would "support some aspects of the budget but not others".

"I'd like to praise the Chancellor for bravely beginning the move towards implementing a UBI and for definitively turning the tide against neoliberal economics. However we have some reservations that this budget isn't as truly progressive as it could be - the budget's focus on roads over rail is alarming to us, as is the fact that the foreign aid budget is being cut while the defence budget will be raised."

2017 saw lower then predicted GDP growth in Alizeria, and included a brief contraction in the first quarter, however forecasts indicate that high commodity prices and rising business confidence should lead to higher GDP growth rates in 2018.

Budget 2017 at a glance:

  • Introduction of pilot UBI programme
  • Introduction of 0.1% financial transactions tax
  • GST reduced from 10% to 5%
  • Free eye exams for senior citizens
  • Government to purchase controlling share in Alizerian Rail
  • Major forestry projects to get underway in rural areas
  • North Krostuk Rail Link to be delayed with priority given to new rural roading projects instead
  • ALIZAID budget to be slashed
  • Inflation adjustment for OAP and unemployment benefit
  • RAMS to receive 10 million groat budget boost, possible purchase of frigates for naval branch

OPINION: BASIC INCOME BACKFIRE?

November 28th 2017
ImageImageImageImage

The unexpected decision to introduce a pilot UBI scheme may be the first time the Coalition has seriously misjudged the mood of the public, says Dr. Sydney Burchard.

Cartoon of the week:
Image

Chancellor of the Exchequer Izzy Yahweh's unexpected decision to introduce a 100 groat per week basic income "pilot scheme" may have seriously backfired if the first post-budget polls are anything to go by.

Far from being welcomed by the public as Alizeria's messiah for giving them something good after the harsh years of Ashtonomics and Dixonomics, new polls show that Yahweh's National party are down to just 2% in the polls. The Left Alliance - whose basic income policy Yahweh stole and inserted into the budget - have risen to 10% in the polls.

The real shock, however, has been the fact that for the first time since 2015 the Liberal Party have overtaken the Conservative Party - the Liberals are now on 43%, a massive jump since the last polls, while the Conservatives have lost 6 points and are now down to 39 percent.

Effectively this makes the Left Alliance the new "kingmaker", as Izzy Yahweh would be forced to either side with the Liberal Party (despite Liberal Party leader William Eastwood ruling out ever working with Yahweh) or else go into opposition with the Conservatives. The Tories, meanwhile, would also have to do a deal with the Left Alliance to win a third term if an election was held today.

On the "Preferred Prime Minister" front, Izzy Yahweh is quite clearly no longer the country's most popular politician, having now dropped into third place behind William Eastwood and Jennifer Dixon - who are both neck-in-neck.

While ordinarily I would suspect that National's poll woes are because of their decision to go into coalition with the Conservatives despite breaking away from them, the fact that the Conservatives are also down makes me suspect that the proposed basic income has actually gone down like a cup of cold sick to middle Alizeria.

While academics, political insiders, bureaucrats, some economists and those in the media have poured nothing but praise on Yahweh's scheme, for Alizeria's "silent majority" it represents 'free money for the lazy', no matter what lengths the government goes to in order to persuade the public that this perception is false.

It might also add to the perception that the Prime Minister can't be trusted, considering that both she and Izzy Yahweh publicly slated the Left Alliance's basic income plan on the campaign trail only to then introduce something very similar upon taking office.

Much of Jennifer Dixon's popularity (as well as the controversy surrounding her) has come from the fact that she was willing to tack right and delve into Liberal Party territory. However the influence of Izzy Yahweh has dragged the Tories back to the left, and now it seems they are plundering Left Alliance territory, only for the Left Alliance to ultimately take credit in the mind of the public and making the exercise futile.

Izzy Yahweh considers himself Alizeria's "man of the people" and the wily populist usually has the most finely tuned political antennae in the country. His gamble with basic income represents a rare lapse of judgement that could potentially be fatal to both himself and his coalition partners.

University Constituency Referendum: Vote Passes with 78.3 Percent Majority

Today, the referendum of the establishment of university constituencies within the country has been passed with 78.3% voting in favor.

Such a question was brought up due to the revolving issues of the still-unresolved Anti-Bribery Bill and the rather painstakingly gradual progress of the Su Mot Initiative. For the former, the government is desiring to have educational input on the matter, since the bill possesses a set of acts that attracted a lot of controversy, with the most controversial being a 37% tax imposition on corporations that committed the crime. For the latter, there has been an increasing number of criticisms expressed against Trần Liễng Tâm Han's signature policy, most of which claim that the Initiative is not doing enough for the people of the nation to participate in shaping future policies. Nevertheless and hopefully, with the referendum producing good results, these issues may soon be resolved; as the Prime Minister puts it in a speech she gave in Parliament after the vote: "we hope that the establishment of university constituencies may enable the opportunity for more people to input their individual opinions and incentives of assistance in times where we cannot obtain a compatible solution in a short time."

In the aftermath of the referendum, most people have high hopes installed in their mindsets that they will prove beneficiary to the country, such as these persons:

"I am glad that we were able to have this referendum issued by the government. It's about time that our Prime Minister does something to fulfill all of her promises," says Trang Cát Tiên, a college student studying economics and psychology at Minh Vuong University.

"I must say that I was quite surprised that the government is considering the creation of such constituencies, and I feel great that we are able to agree upon their establishments. It'll be an innovative measure that this whole nation will experience," chimes Leslie Ngoc Tuyen Quach, incumbent Chancellor of the Kontin Institute of Technology.

On the opposition, the prevalent opinion that was evident was of the redundancy of the constituencies:

"In my view, university constituencies are redundant, much like how the Lucians view it since 1950. We already got enough constituencies as it is, and surely, we could find another way to get the people of this beloved country more involved in the shaping of political implementations," says Nguyễn Nhất Tiến, the Nationalist Party MP for the 3rd Political District of the Phong Le Province.

For a special case, there are plenty of opinions expressing the fact that it'll only maintain the status quo of politicians having more power than the people:

"I believe that this proposition will only preserve the circumstance of the politicians, especially the academics, having more power to devise laws for the country than the people themselves. I do not see how different it would be for this country to experience," says Phùng Ðức Tuấn, the Labour Party MP for the 15th Political District of the Kỳ Nam Province.

On the indecisive side, the results have propelled them to hope that the establishment of university constituencies would go well for the country:

"I hope they'll prove to be good as the government says it will be. I've waited long for the people to actually participate in political affairs, so I have faith in this government that they'll make this initiative a big step into fulfilling what Su Mot intends to do," says Văn Hải Bằng, a student studying Computer Science at Trinh Lieu Han University.

"To put it simply, I am not in any position to side with either the pro or con side, but I will put my faith in the constituencies being a significant aid to the democracy of my beloved country, nonetheless" says Tống Tiến Võ, the Yellow Dragon MP for the 4th Political District of the Nảy Thịt Province.

At this moment, some universities are currently being chosen. From there, the public will get to know the list of such by 3:00 PM today.

BREAKING: Gundersen Signals Openness to Coalition Talks with Alliance

Marit Renzgaard, Political Correspondent
20 January 2018

Tybenhoth- Just hours into the official start of this year’s parliamentary election campaign, Opposition Leader Thorbjørn Gundersen broke with decades of political precedent this morning by saying that his centre-right Conservative Party was “actively considering” coalition talks with the far-right Alliance party in the event it wins a plurality in the 5 March elections.

Gundersen made the revelation at a press conference following the close of a Conservative Party conference in Tybenhoth today. When asked by D2N reporter Dana Rothenbrand if there was any chance he would consider talks with Alliance in addition to the Agrarians, the party's traditional coalition partner, he responded: “At this point, we haven’t ruled out any options. We’re operating under the assumption that the current Liberal-Labor-Green coalition will be renewed. If that’s the case, we’re going to need as many allies as possible to put forward a viable alternative government.” When pressed by Rothenbrand if this meant potentially partnering with Alliance, Gundersen replied: “It’s something that’s being actively considered.”

This announcement came as a shock to many given that Alliance has, until now, been regarded as a taboo coalition partner by its counterparts in Parliament due to what has been described as an openly xenophobic and racist platform. Although it's won less than 4% of the national vote in every election it's contested since its founding, that hasn't caused the Kingdom's other parties to take it lightly. Indeed, in 1972, leaders of the Liberal Party, Conservatives, Agrarians, National Labor, Greens, and the Free Republicans all publicly pledged to never involve the party in coalition talks, establishing a precedent that's lasted until today.

Founded by the alienated nationalist wing of the Conservative Party in the years following the granting of independence to Delkora's former colonies in the late 1960's, Alliance for National Action and Solidarity, commonly referred to as Alliance, has routinely made headlines for its reactionary rhetoric. In 1974 it introduced a bill that would have banned all immigration to the Kingdom and mandated the deportation of Sumirian and Ganzavaran immigrants from the former colonies. In an interview with D2N just this past year, Alliance leader Elsa Tolstrup, who is considered a moderate within the party, repeatedly refused to condemn an Alliance MP for a Cloudverse post in which he characterized Delkora as an "ethno-state” that should not permit immigration from non-white countries.

After Gundersen's press conference this morning, Tolstrup was quick to welcome the possibility of a coalition with the Conservatives. “Alliance looks forward to the possibility of governing alongside our Conservative and Agrarian colleagues," she told a party rally in Gothendral, where a heavy police presence was in place as a large crowd of protesters coalesced nearby. "Our country deserves a strong right-wing alternative to the docile leadership of Chancellor Azengaard."

Criticism of Gudnersen's revelation today was quick in coming from the incumbent government. Chancellor Azengaard decried Gundersen and Conservatives for "giving legitimacy to the most hateful elements of Delkoran society." Speaking before a packed auditorium at Bandorel University, he said, "Alliance represents the antithesis of Delkoran values, and the Conservatives have now set a dangerous precedent by inducting them into mainstream political discourse."

Foreign minister and National Labor Party leader Andreas Støvring was similarly critical of the potential partnership. Speaking at the annual convention of the Federation of Service Workers in Norenstal, he said, "Thorbjørn Gundersen has made it clear that he values political power over the people of this country. A Conservative-Agrarian-Alliance government would be bad for workers, bad for immigrants, and bad for our nation. We must do everything we can to prevent it from coming to fruition."

Green Party leader and Minister of the Interior Margrethe Heldenvar, speaking at a Green Party rally in Abenvard, did not mince words, calling Alliance a "cancer" on Delkoran democracy, and further saying, "We will not allow a pathetic group of neo-fascists and their Conservative enablers to undo decades of progress in making our society more open, equal, and just."

Despite Gundersen's stated willingness to work with Alliance, it’s not clear a Conservative-Agrarian-Alliance coalition could be successfully negotiated. In such a government, Alliance would clearly be the odd one out on a number of economic and social issues. Both the Conservatives and Agrarians, for example, oppose disestablishment of the Vallyar Order, whereas the more secular Alliance has indicated that it might support such a move. On immigration, although most Conservative and Agrarian MPs favor increased restrictions, few want to go as far as Alliance, which last year proposed a bill that would have cut the Kingdom’s annual refugee quota by more than 80%. On economic policy, the free trade-oriented Conservatives and Agrarians differ significantly from the more protectionist Alliance.

Perhaps the only area of certain consensus among the three parties is defense policy. All three have been outspoken against recent cuts in military spending, in particular a measure passed at the end of last year that will see a significant reduction in the Kingdom’s nuclear arsenal over the next ten years.

Indeed, some high-ranking MPs from both centre-right parties have already expressed trepidation about associating with Alliance. When asked about his thoughts on a three-way coalition at a forum in his constituency of Holdenbaard, Agrarian leader Frans Kjær expressed little enthusiasm: “It’s too soon to rule anything out, but I will say that a partnership with Alliance is not my personal preference.” Meanwhile, Conservative MP from Torenrath and former education minister Hanne Amstrup came out strongly against working with Alliance, releasing a statement saying, “The Conservative Party should be serious about offering voters an alternative to the Azengaard government, but not at the expense of our values. Alliance is nothing short of a hate group, and they have never represented what our party is about. I implore my fellow Conservative MPs to vote against any partnership with them.”

Amstrup's statement illustrates an increasingly widening gulf between the Conservative Party’s old guard and the so-called “New Conservatives” who took the party by storm in the 2009 elections. The old guard, typically associated with Gundersen, has long dominated the party and represent a more traditional, aristocratic brand of conservatism. Opposing it are the New Conservatives, often associated with former Chancellor Harald Møller, a younger generation of members who claim to espouse a more “modern” brand of liberal conservatism.

Thus far, most of the support for working with Alliance seems to be coming from the old guard, while the New Conservatives are generally opposed. Møller himself, who has largely opted to stay out of the public spotlight since retiring from public life following the last election, issued a statement denouncing Gundersen, who served a tumultuous term as finance minister during his chancellorship. “Mr. Gundersen is charting a dangerous course for our country by extending a hand to a movement that has plainly demonstrated its contempt for the most basic notions of human rights and civil liberties,” he said in a press release. “It is the duty of Delkorans everywhere to oppose bigotry and any who would fraternize with it.”

Conservative Party rules stipulate that before Gundersen and other top party officials could initiate coalition talks with Alliance, there would have to be a vote of the party’s central committee, which is comprised of all 107 Conservative MPs in the Chamber of Representatives. According to Dr. Sara Hansen, professor of political science at Abenvard University and former Conservative Party strategist, there's no guarantee that MPs would agree to even initiate talks, let alone finalize a coalition if it came down to it. "Any potential negotiations Gundersen might be planning could be dead on arrival." she told the Herald. "The central committee might not even let him sit down at the bargaining table."

"[Gundersen] is taking a big gamble here," she added. "He's hoping to broaden his coalition, but he may very well end up alienating not just his party's base, but the rest of the electorate as well."

New Akashi and Social Credit parties vote to merge

Mao Yukimura, APBS News Online political correspondent

Image
The merger has been described as a
triumph for SCP leader Mitsuko Amano
The New Akashi Party and Social Credit Party have voted in favour of a merger.

In separate votes, both parties' members voted by large majorities for the move. The results showed 87,19% of NAP members and 96% of SCP members voted in favour.

The merger agreement, negotiated between leaders Hirokazu Moriya and Mitsuko Amano last week, stipulates that the NAP will be incorporated into the existing SCP. A leadership election will then be held, expected by the chūjun of February at the latest.

Documents will be filed tomorrow with the Central Electoral Commission to deregister the NAP and formally recognise the merger.

The merger will increase the SCP's seats in the National Assembly from 11 to 17.

The resounding outcome of the merger vote represents a consequential achievement for Mx Amano, under whose tenure the SCP has re-emerged as a significant small party.

Her success in reviving the SCP and returning it to the Assembly clearly weighed on the minds of NAP members. The planned policy convention begun earlier this month gave way to discussions about merging the NAP with another party.

No longer constrained by the "radical centrist" identity promoted by former leader Peter Wells, the NAP membership chose to explore a merger with either Social Credit or the Future Party — both leftist parties.

The merger is expected to strengthen the position of small parties in the political landscape. Mx Amano has declared she will continue her policy of maintaining close ties and coordination with the Future Party.

Extremist Leader Confirmed Eliminated!

Image
Stormtroopers from the 109th “Svart Hatter”Regiment pose in the border wilds after the raid on the Kollective compound

Following the escalation of the Arzell Crisis and deployment of the Liamite and Gallagher State Guard, several raids were enacted on known extremist hideouts and outposts across the border region. With the escalation of military deployments, HIGHKOM has taken the opportunity to eliminate these radicals on the fringes of society. This compound in the heavily forested region around the border known as ‘Folkhjemet’ was built into a long abandoned copper mine, with a watchpost built nearby, all under control of the group known as the Kollective Syndicalists of Azurlavai (the Kollective or KSA for short). The brave men and women of ‘C’ kompanie, 109th Stormtrooper regiment, supported by armor from the 82nd Armored Regiment and close air support from the Gryten State Air Guard airbase pushed into the thick frostmarsh, clearing a handful of outposts before assaulting the main base, catching a large majority of the rebel militia by surprise, with older surplus helicopters and APCs. Between our tanks, fast air assets and helicopter support, C kompanie led by Kaptein Drumheller cleared the compound out with minimal casualties.

Upon clearing the militant forces, several younger and older members of the organization were extracted from the facility. As few of the combatants saw fit to surrender, these prisoners were mostly made up of the younger children, noncombatant associates and older parents of the KSA fighters, and were taken into custody by C kompanie before being handed off to the ISK. Among those captured was Kollective leader Thorvald Larsson. Larsson, upon being identified, was photographed for proof, summarily executed for his crimes, and photographed again to confirm his death.

Rumors of foreign-manufactured weapons being extracted from the facility have yet to be confirmed, and the casualty list from the raid has not yet been released, though HIGHKOM assures that losses were extremely low. A victory has been won this day, one sorely needed in these tense times. We can only pray to the Gods that more victories will come, if we have more soldiers like C kompanie to rely on.

Krigsmarine Launches New Flotilla!

Image
The RMF Jormungandr is the latest, largest and most advanced addition to the Krigsmarine to date

Many cheers were heard from the pier at Valkensvaard Marine Base today as the RMF Jormungandr, the latest of the esteemed Sovngarde-class aircraft carriers, set out to join her fellows in the open ocean. Under construction for several years, the integration of newly updated technology such as more advanced radar emitters and missile detection arrays had set the Jormungandr back from being completed for some time, but her launch now has proven she is both sea worthy and combat ready, her crew hand-picked for this prestigious assignment.

The Jormungandr joins her sisters the Sovngarde and the Valkøy II to be the spearhead of the Krigsmarine. Though we pressed for interviews with senior officers, our reporters were unfortunately turned away by MPs.

Escorting her from drydock are the guided missiles cruisers Kinishca, Seafang and Røg. Details on these vessels are, sadly, classified for now as are the new frigates seen under construction as well, to be set loose at a later date.

We are grateful to have these vessels and weapons for our fighting men and women, and while we pray to the Gods that they need not leave us, we also pray they are granted the stalwart fury of our ancestors in these trying times.

Navy to Begin Yearly Ice-clearing Operations in Northern Passage and Thule Sea
- Operation slated to run through the end of winter
- Will clear out northern shipping lanes running from Acrea to Northern Eracura

Image
Naval Icebreaker VMF Molotok

NEVELSK - During a press conference following a biannual review of the nation's armed forces, Naval Chief of Staff Aleksandr Cruys confirmed that the navy's 23-ship strong fleet of Icebreakers would be deployed to the Northern Passage and Thule Sea in order to begin operations to clear northern shipping lanes of ice. These lanes often have a habit of freezing over during the winter months, as well as forming potentially hazardous icebergs, resulting in much shipping traffic originating from western Eracura to opt instead for longer, more crowded routes through the Sundering Sea. These operations are intended to allow this traffic through summer shipping lanes that would be otherwise avoided, clearing the way for expedited shipping and trade during the winter. The time frame of the operation is slated to begin within a week, and run through the winter into the spring. It is particularly expected to target lanes originating from ports in northern Shalum and Ossoria. Such operations are not uncommon, and Icebreakers are often deployed on an annual basis to clear some lanes. This is the first time in several years, however, that all available Icebreakers are being used for a mass clearing operation.

During a licensed protest in Lowellsburg, shots were fired from the crowd at the nearby MPs overseeing the demonstration. The MPs returned fire, killing 16 and wounding 132 men and women. 5 of the dead and 14 of the wounded were discovered to be part of the Kollective. As MPs and emergency medical responded and the State Guard was put on alert, hundreds of posters were found up on walls, signs, cars, thrown to the wind.

[Azura and Montemayor - AMBC] Quetárro – The Shalumite representative to the Union of Eracuran Nations requested the activation of Article 17 of the Treaty of Quetárro, according to sources present in the UEN meeting that took place last week.

Article 17, the section of the Treaty of Quetárro written in 1995 that deals with collective defense of member nations, has never been activated nor has the process to activate the process ever been started. According to sources who spoke on the condition of anonymity due to not being authorized to speak on the matter, the Shalumite representative to the UEN took the historic step to begin the process of activating Article 17.

The request came as a surprise to those in attendance of the council meeting, according to the sources. The Shalumite representative, who was not the permanent and regular representative, took no action to notify the council prior to the meeting that Shalum was seeking the activation of Article 17.

Upon the request, the representative of Azura and Montemayor, Prime Minister Kudrna at the time, requested a recess. The recess was granted by the President of the Council. Once the meeting had resumed, procedure allowed for the Shalumite representative to present their case and answer questions posed by other member nation representatives. According to the sources, the Azuran and Azurlav representatives to the meeting asked a majority of the questions. When it came time to vote as to whether to activate Article 17, the activation was vetoed by both Azurlavai and Azura and Montemayor.

The objections by the two nations, effectively ending the conversation as only one nation needs to object in order for the article to not be activated, came amidst heightened tensions between Ossorian and Shalumite forces on Arzell and the threat of intervention from other forces. While the specific reasons the two nations vetoed the activation are unknown, the sources, who were not present for the vote, reported that both nations had worries of heightened tensions and conflict and stressed a need for a peaceful outcome.

News of the requested activation comes at a time when tensions remain high on the continent and in Ossoria. Recent hostilities taken by Mubata have prompted Azurlavai to shift into an offensive posture while still maintaining that a peaceful solution would be best for the region. A mutual defense treaty signed by Azura and Montemayor and Azurlavai in 2000 allows for the possibility of Azura and Montemayor being forced to enter any conflict between Azurlavai and Mubata if further hostilities are acted upon by the Mubatan regime.

The Imperial Palace, when asked for comment, released the following statement to AMBC: “The government of Azura and Montemayor wishes to see a peaceful outcome to the conflict in Arzell. Any actions taken to further the conflict and increase hostilities would be an unfortunate turn of events. We remain committed to encouraging peace talks between Ossorian and Shalumite representatives to find a quick and peaceful end to the conflict so that no more will lose their lives. We believe, at this point, it may also be beneficial for the matter to be taken to the OTN.”

When asked if Azura and Montemayor would uphold its obligations to a mutual defense treaty with Azurlavai if the need arose, the representative from the Imperial Palace responded in the affirmative. “Azura and Montemayor will review any request to honor obligations detailed in any agreement that currently stands between our nation and another. If determined to be appropriate, the government would be well within its right to involve itself in any possible conflict if assistance is requested by a nation that has mutual defense agreements with us.”

Supreme Chairman’s Speech and the Aftermath

Image
An illustration of Supreme Chairman Monika Schefer posted onto the internet, one of thousands flooding the net

It's only been a day since the Supreme Chairman’s address to the international community, and already her fame, and infamy, have both spiked. To the nationalist community, she has become something of a recent hero, as many drawn fan animations that have already popped up will show. Ever since her election to the role in 2015, her rule so far has been rather lackluster, though many of her numerous reforms were well-received. But the message sent to the Mubatan Republic in response to their threat to detain URA shipping was well-delivered and well-received by those who still wish to project that Azurlavai is as strong as she’s ever been.

However, to many the message sent was the wrong one. Instead of seating for discussions and concessions, it is worried that Schefer may have delivered a threat, and made herself a target. Many political radicals and reformists have already submitted their opinions on the internet, citing the recent KSA violence and response that the military has deployed, and that perhaps Azurlavai needs to withdraw from world politics until major reforms are made to address international relations.

Internet chat rooms have been buzzing nonstop. As the deadline set by Mubata dials closer, the debates continue to get more and more vicious. Websites such as Placebook, Tyrantube and Mitter have become far too difficult to visit on Azurlav domains as the community appears to be in an all out war.

Our attempts to get an interview with the Supreme Chairman were politely declined, a universal lockdown as it seems no press are currently being allowed near the Rad Hus. While the official story is that the government is currently attempting to overcome the status of alert, it is clear the Supreme Chairman and by extension the entire UR government is waiting for Mubata’s response or, even worse, her allies in the north.

Illegal Protest Turns to College Riot!

Image
Students stand atop a flipped car as the riot rages across Tylinsburg University

The so-called Arzell Crisis in the north has already made tensions high nationwide, but it was the Supreme Chairman’s declaration last night that seemed to push this group over the edge. At Tylinsburg University the tension has been especially high for one reason; the schools’ unique foreign exchange program with a handful of universities in Ossoria. For years, students from the High Kingdom have travelled south to receive their educations here, notably specializing on average into various industrial degrees.

The issues instead stem from some noted outcry these students have had towards the UR government for their lack of intervention in the current crisis. Some have already returned home to enlist in the Royal Armed Forces. But many who have remained have published several petitions to the UR government for intervention in the crisis, or articles decrying HIGHKOM for their lack of action.

This tension finally boiled when, shortly after the Supreme Chairman’s address, several Ossorian students at Tylinsburg staged a large and illegal protest in the college square, drawing many native students to their cries. In less than an hour, a counter protest from Shalumite immigrants and other locals who support the neutrality movement had formed in the same square, and it looked as though the entire issue would come to blows.

Though the Civic Patrol was called to back up University Security, they merely deployed several patrol cars to the edge of the square, holding off from attacking. Three hours later, however, the protest had indeed turned into a full-scale brawl, the riot spreading through the campus. Several structures were suddenly burning, including university dorms and facilities. It was at this point that the Civic Patrol finally intervened, and within the hour the Riot Korps was deployed. Regardless, the riot raged all night, and in the morning dozens possess injuries of various minor states with at least six students killed and many in intense care.

Whatever else can be drawn from this, it can be said that the Crisis has become quite personal to many here at home. Let us only hope peace returns to our nation soon.

What the Period Preparatory to Mobilization Act Means For You

Image
New recruits drilling at Camp Sloan, the Haer’s primary training center in the nation

Ever since Supreme Chairman Monika Schefer took office, her announced Reform Plans have been a source of much controversy. While they have indeed helped, a lot has changed over the past two years, from the right to own private property, the introduction of a more free-market style foreign market and relaxing restrictions on media censorship to name a few. But while Plans 1-43 have all been to reform politics, internal issues and economic policies, its recently been revealed that from 50 up are military policies, and as such have been kept top secret.

Plan 50 is still unknown to us, but Plan 51 was revealed last night by the Chairman herself; the Period Preparatory to Mobilization Act. For common citizens, only one requirement is made; all citizens between ages sixteen and thirty-five are to register for a function known as the Selective Service. While conscription in times of crisis is not a new thing, this usually takes place during war readiness, and is also normally immediate. Selective Service, however, is merely registering for a database, and if the expected crisis should come to occur, a quick review of records against names will determine who is able to serve and who would be ideal for enlistment.

Though protests have arisen over this measure, for the most part suppression and sheer patriotic fervor has silenced most naysayers overnight. But it should be noted that registration in Selective Service does not mean a guarantee for conscription, as both health and family issues can disqualify you from future service. Your draft number also tells how far down the line you are from being selected, made up of both a batch and individual number.

Some topics that may disqualify you from service;
*Debilitating medical issues
*Prior service term of at least 7 years
*Civic military service (active and reserve military personnel do not need to register)
*Family obligations
And several more not disclosed. Be advised, even if you have one of these issues, you must still register.

My hope is that this article can give you some helpful advise, for we may never have to use this emergency measure. Thanks for reading.
