Lord Marius' eyes were now half-closed from all the talking and the mouth-opening in the chamber. However, he was suddenly roused from his boring haze by a Roendavarian aide who has placed a small black enveloped on his desk with a purple seal. A letter from the High Council and the King himself. He breaks the seal and opens the first letter, which orders him to nominate Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia for the position of Secretary-General. The remaining papers are a pre-prepared script and Cirasephona's bio-data. He skips through most of the basic information and reads over the last pages. Lord Marius suppresses a smile. An interesting choice. After motioning to speak on the podium, he begins his speech.

''The Utopian Kingdom of the Union of Roendavarian States nominates ai-Fel. Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia for the position of Secretary-General. af. Cirasephona has served as the kingdom's Citizen's Representation, a representative for social activists and groups, for twelve years and is now currently the head of the Department of Social Sciences at Roendavar's largest university, the Pilonas. She has written several essays and recommendations within the field of International Relations and Behavioural Psychology, thus, she is well-known across the Western Isles. Aside from being an astute academic, she has participated in social work and advocacy. She has been crucial in the dialogue between Roendavar's numerous non-governmental institutions and the central government, most notably, in finding common ground between the radical environmentalist groups and the Roendavarian government. She has participated in several humanitarian activities in and around The Western Isles, especially in on-the-ground humanitarian work."

Keeping in mind the view of the International Community on Roendavar's supposed radicalization, Lord Marius sighs. A bunch of radical anarchists and environmentalists that party all the time. To heck with this script. He folds the rose-scented paper back to its envelope and begins to speak once more. "The respectable ai-Fel. Cirasephona is not just smart. She knows the people. She has lived and worked with and for them. She is perfect for the position. The Roendavarian delegation, with my personal discretion, assures that ai-Fel. Cirasephona shall be impartial and logical in her leadership. However, we would also like to acknowledge that she will not hesitate to speak for what shall be best for The Western Isles. Neutrality, an asset for diplomacy, is a commendable thing, but standing up for a just and good cause within the bounds of international peace and agreements is also as essential. Let that be known."

He returns to his seat, pulled out his phone, and began to lazily tap on the screen.

John Wallace, the Serpens Land ambassador rose from his seat. Before entering the chamber he had been briefed on what to say. None the less, he took one last look at his notes before starting his speech.

"The Realm of Serpens Land nominates Sir Andrew Wellington for the position of Secretary-General. Sir Andrew is a highly celebrated Serpens Land politician and diplomat. He served as Prime Minister of Serpens Land from 2005 to 2011. Before that he served as Leader of the Opposition under the previous government. After his time as prime minister, he continued his career in international relations taking up many diplomatic posts across the Western Isles. Most recently he served as Serpens Land's ambassador to the Pact of Kings."

John Wallace took his seat again confident that he had made a good impression for Sir Andrew.

The suited bureaucrat returned to the centre of the chamber, in order to answer the Shanzian's question.

"Yes, honourable delegate. The nominees before you are all that this League will now accept for the purposes of this election.

This is more a general statement now to the rest of the delegates in this chamber. You now have seven days to nominate your preferred candidate out of the following:
Candidate 1: Dr Teriya Tham Gyatso, nominated by The Hangate of Bhikkustan
Candidate 2: Professor Alexandre Darcy Paquet, nominated by The Commonwealth of Segentova
Candidate 3: ai-Fel. Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia, nominated by The Utopian Kingdom of the Union of Roendavarian States
Candidate 4: Sir Andrew Wellington, nominated by The Realm of Serpens Land.

All endorsements that have been given in the recent days, pertaining to the current election of the Secretary-General, will be considered. There is no need to restate your support for a particular candidate if you have done so.

However, if you have not yet declared your support for a candidate or your abstinence from this vote, the League encourages you to do so in a speedily fashion - it is vitally important to declare your preferred candidate within seven days of now."

Jesse looked down at the papers before him which displayed in no uncertain terms the considerations a delegate from the Unified Electorates of Ainslie must have and the biases necessary in order to support a particular candidate for a position in an international organisation. The updated note was sent to Jesse just before the election began. It read, amongst other points:

1. Unless military organisation, stray away from political or military figures
2. Support the picks of nations who are recognised middle powers and/or allied with us
3. Any candidate whom you may have suspicions about their lack of regard for democracy and human rights broadly should be casted out of your mind.
4. The candidate need not come from a particularly democratic nation, however point 3 is essential.
5. Preference candidates from nations outside of major blocs
6. If the candidate receives support from nations associated with the Pact of Kings, that candidate should be casted out of your mind.

"The Unified Electorates of Ainslie warmly supports the candidate brought to the chamber by Roendavar, ai-Fel. Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia and wishes that she becomes the next Secretary-General of the League of The Western Isles."

A confident, exotic-looking woman rises from her seat to approach the dais. She is Marsha Trindl, Littolyen Ambassador to the League, and her dark, dense curls bounce slightly with each stilettoed stride. Clad in a bright orange pantsuit and jangling turquoise jewelry, she is easily visible from across the cavernous chamber.

Two of her newly-assigned staffers, standing against the wall at the back of the chamber, tilt their heads towards each other to gossip. They're in their early twenties, fresh out of college, giddy as they drink in the pomp and circumstance of being on the League floor.

One, his hair slicked back, says out of the corner of his mouth, "I could have taken a job with Senator Yohid." He's referring to the powerful chairman of the Senate Armed Forces Committee. "I took the job with Trindl's office because she's so freaking hot."
The second staffer looks mortified, his eyes darting nervously as he scans for anyone who might overhear them. "Shut up!" he whispers back.
The first continues, "They say she's f***ing the president, you know."
"Shut up!"
"I bet you she runs against him in 2022."
The second staffer takes one long step sideways, away from his mouthy colleague, just as Ambassador Trindl's steady voice fills the chamber. "The Republic of Littolyo casts its vote for Secretary-General of the League for Sir Andrew Wellington, of The Realm of Serpens Land."

A tall, silver-haired woman walks into the chamber. She wears the traditional colors of Roendavar on her formal dress, green, gold, and purple. Her demeanor, carefree yet elegant and composes herself with the proper ettiquette. A permanent smile is always carved on her face. As she passes by the Roendavarian delegation, Lord Marius flashes her an annoyed and indifferent glare. Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia. Or as she is known within the country, the Silver Rose. Early thirties and a major figure in Roendavar, though it cannot be specific to say whether such reputation is good or bad. She makes her way to the center podium and speaks in a spirited tone,

"Iralon Vladiron eir theresmena. Your excellencies, delegates, representations, good day. First of all, let me acknowledge my predecessor, Mr. Andrew Whitford, to his commitment to the League. He has done for so many with what time he had as Secretary-General and I believe that earns him enough credit as an exemplary figure to all of us. I wish for nature to give him all that he deserves."

"Next, I would like to express my gratitude for putting your trust in me. I swear on Fuelea that I shall seek to satisfy what is needed of me and what the job entails. Know that I shall uphold the values and the purpose of the League to the best of my abilities, along with its mission and vision to create a peaceful and dynamic cooperation between all the nations of the Western Isles."

"It is a well-known fact that civilization was built on humanity, whether it be tangible and intangible, and that our very actions and words dictate how the future moves forward. That is why we, as actors upon the international stage, must purge the present of malice so that we may continue forward and secure a peace well-deserving of our society. We must not let differences nor sins affect us from changing and cooperating. It is in indifference and grudges that we refuse to open our hearts to all, a hinderance to the goal of world peace. A goal paramount above all. A goal we must move towards to. A goal the League, as a whole, must move towards to."

"With this, I end my speech. The floor is now open for the nominations for Deputy Secretary-General of the League. Nominees must be submitted and put forth on the mandated 7 days from hereon, ending on November 4, 2020."

Oh, snap! a deputy secretary-general? Hogo thought sarcastically. He pondered how bad his government wanted the Profesor in a position within the league, but this was cut short after an aide tapped on his shoulder Monsieur Poullain, we have word that the ministry of foreign affairs wants Professor Paquet as deputy secretary-general. Hugo combed his fingers through his hair and adjusted his glasses before he leaned forwards to activate the microphone in front of him. Dear League, fellow representatives. I once again wish to put forwards Professor Alexandre Darcy Paquet as Segentovas nominee, this time for deputy secretary-general. You all surely remember my speech from last time. So I shall cut it short this time around. I fully believe that Professor Paquet is able to handle the tasks demanded by this position, he has had over 40 years of experience in academia, is an excellent public speaker, and has previously served on the City Council for Nouveau Toulon. Professor Paquet brings a truly unique and varied skillset to the table that would be a great benefit to the league.
Leaning back in his chair, Hugo proceeded to have a sip of water to oil his throat.

Erika Lewis-Smith for Deputy Secretary-General

Postby Littolyo » Mon Nov 09, 2020 4:44 pm

A petit woman with a large voice takes the dais. She is Erika Lewis-Smith, a 42-year old philanthropist and former governor of Altera State.

"Nations of the Western Isles, esteemed delegates from across the region, it is my pleasure and honor to address you today as I stand for nomination to the position of Deputy Secretary-General of this illustrious body." Her black bob sways as she speaks passionately, silver earrings framing her defined cheekbones.

"Most of you already know me. I am Erika Lewis-Smith of Littolyo, and I have dedicated my life to public service. During my time as a legislator and then governor of the Littolyen state of Altera, I worked tirelessly to address the thorny issues of our time by building consensus and reaching across the aisle. I'm proud of the work we accomplished and the results we saw; during my tenure in state government, Altera's economy grew faster than any other state thanks to investments in education and infrastructure, while mortality rates fell significantly as we worked to overhaul the state's healthcare system.

"Following my time in government, I became a philanthropist, working on international issues and seeking to improve the fortunes for the neediest across the region. I spearheaded the recovery effort following the 2008 Amber Sea Hurricane for one of the largest charities in the world, and worked to help end food insecurity in the islands of the Southern Sea.

"I've had the honor of working with you all since being appointed to the League's Special Commission on Human Rights by our president, Leon Drake, in 2018. Over the last two years I have thrown myself into the work of the League, advancing the interests of all nations and inhabitants of the Western Isles impartially. It's been a tremendously rewarding journey, which is why I ask today for your support in my bid to help our dear colleague, ai-Fel. Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia, in guiding this organization into its next chapter.

"ai-Fel. Cirasephona Alfethis Refihhlia has been an admired friend of mine for years, and I know the League is bound to accomplish great things under her tenure. I humbly offer that I will work tirelessly and openly to support her vision, which you all endorsed in last month's vote, while applying the experience, expertise, and commitment to bedrock values that have guided my entire career in public service.

"If you entrust me with your vote today, I can assure you that I will not let you down, and my door will always be open to you and your delegations as we chart a course forward together. Thank you."

Lewis-Smith bows deeply as the chamber rings with sustained applause.

After watching the theatrics in the chamber, Jesse contemplated his options a bit. Littolyo nor Segentova were nations that Ainslie have close ties with. Also, the Foreign Ministry didn’t seem particularly concerned with preventing him from voting for a certain candidate.
