Taniar
Long ago, in the ancient times before the Storm or the Dark Lord's reign, the people of Taniar sailed through the dark mists on eight ships, though toil and woes, to find a land they could call home. Odmir, God of the Storms and Seas, led them to a safe harbor, where the Southern Run fed gently into the sea, and the Tani settled there, each ship claiming a portion of the shore. The Tani play a dangerous game, neither supporting nor opposing either great power in deed, but paying lip service to both in word, in the hopes that they will remain free from the wars that ravage the lands... for they have problems enough at sea. The fleets of the rival State of Carsepolis control the quickest route to the Elves of Tomekia, who are important trade partners for the Tani, and the taxes they charge to allow goods through their waters is considered excessive and increases constantly, while the uncertainty of the times encourages piracy throughout the world, greatly affecting the trade Taniar relies on. The swirling winds (this time of uncertainty) and waves (this time of war) threaten to once again destroy the Tani people, and this time Odmir may not hear their cries in time.

I was thinking they were pretty tough creatures, maybe about as tough and large as the cave troll in Moria in the Two-Towers, LotR... because otherwise, 25-odd archers and three skilled mages should have been able to pretty quickly decimate 15 trolls. I do like the idea of more coming, though.

That's assuming you can mount a successful cavalry charge in the forest... at night... of which I'm dubious.

Solvaldir
Formed out of war and faith and forged from victory, Solvaldir was sworn in vassalage to the Empire of Man and has remained tied into its ever powerful rise to near pre-eminence. Solvaldir, however, has remained, like a handful of the other more distant kingdoms tied by vassalage, a distinctly different area to the heart of the Empire. A nation of seasoned farmers, hunters, and pious protectors, the lands it holds are - seemingly held in favour by their faith - a place of great beauty.

hmmm, I won't make you edit it, but I think they need to have some sort of payment for all this magic. They are producing fire and floating rocks, and sending signals. I mean your bordering D&D levels, id just think about how they are producing this magic.

I was thinking a combination of genetic/verbal magic, in addition to the gemstones themselves having magical/augmentation properties... Aquiva can control fire (though not reliably yet... she almost killed the people they were trying to save), Razif has had longer to train and can manipulate earth, and Isqor has some level of healing. Razif's about 'empty' from his rock spell, evidenced by the shortness of breath, and Aquila, being younger, has probably between 'half' and 'a third' energy left. The 'payment' for all this magic (if I understand the concept) is exhaustion, which can only be alleviated by a period of rest.

Some of us have been slacking, though...
*discreetly points finger at self*
But no more! I've just gotten a post up on our little troll adventure, Xie... I was thinking your riders could see the colored flares and ride towards them, finding and engaging the remaining five trolls that escaped... then the party of Rangers under Aquiva the Red could arrive at the tail end of the battle (up to you whether there's anything left to kill or not), and then both our groups could ride towards the tower of Tor'Fan, where your homesteaders are being taken. If we want to really milk this adventure, I could have Razif the Blue and Isqor the Green's party assaulted by more trolls, which then gives your riders more targets and let's them be part of the heroics... just a thought though.
Also, in the Carsepolis Arc, should I make a post about a Tani ship sailing back from the Imperium being attacked by Mortikas' pirates? Or were you thinking of waiting on that, Vozt?

How many of these Mages are in your service?

I was thinking the order had 60 or so, with these three being among the top 30 magic users, while the bottom 30 would not really do all that much, maybe one or two spells. I was also thinking there ought to be 10 or so 'unaligned' mages in Taniar who just live out in the woods and do not recognize the supremacy of the Order... one or two might be as strong as Razif, but most would not be... these would make their living probably as medical herbalists or mercenaries that primarily use normal weapons, but also know a spell or two to help along the way.
@Vozt -- No worries, whenever you're ready.

So what are some of the side affects or limits to their power?
Great Houses of Xie wrote:You were saying how it shouldnt be quick to decimate 15 trolls. To decimate is usually used incorrectly, as it was ised by the romans to denote killing a tenth of the unit. To which i joked that the tani should be able to easily handle at least 1 and a half trolls, which is one-tenth of 15, while i understood what you actually meant.
Depends on the forest and how tightly packed the trees are. Given the ability for archers to have clear lines of sight, i dont think it's too thick for a good charge. Also on whether there's a moon out or not.

Well, Razif's probably going to need a day or two to recover, perhaps three or four to really feel like himself. He's maybe got one little spell left in him, but if he does that, then he might take two or three weeks to recover -- the more you deplete yourself, the longer it takes to 'recharge'. If he tried a larger spell or two little ones, he might take months to recover, and could very likely fall unconscious. Razif, even though he can control stone somewhat, wouldn't be able to, say, take down a city gate or topple a wall or strong tower. He couldn't wipe out a formation with a hail of rock (causing rock slides, perhaps an option if the area were already unstable). Isqor couldn't magi-heal an army, but he might be able to cause a fractured bone to heal normally and faster that would otherwise leave one lame or crippled. Aquiva can set a single enemy on fire, but not a whole force. They about pushed their limits in the post.
