Light cannons have great advantages in mobility when compared to heavier ones. They're also a LOT cheaper.

I assume I wouldn't have to many heavy guns? Also would a light artillery heavy netherlands be out of place (a battery of guns per birgade (3-4))?

I think artillery was traditionally attached at the divisional level. Usually 1 or 2 batteries each, depending on the type of division. Artillery did, however, also exist as independent brigades/regiments.

@Netherlands
The artillery mostly looks good, however, I would say that you need to halve the firing rates at least. Artillery takes LONGER to load than muskets :P

Also, did you take a look at this topic?

I just want to be sure our impressions lined up. I wanted to make sure everybody had a clear idea of their state's strengths and weaknesses.

Ya I did read that but I planned on having weak heavier artillery (12lb guns are a rare occurance in my artillery forces, along with large caliber howitzers (I will have a number of mortors (a ducth favorite)). Also I took the 2lb pom-pom gun from 1880 and cut the firing rate to 1/5 of its origonal (200rpm - 40rpm). I tried to base my weapons of the fast firing low damage veriety.

The Swedes did have a system of pre-loaded cartridges which reduced loading time for their cannons, however, it's worth pointing out, that this decreased their accuracy and range significantly. If you're willing to take on disadvantages like that, then it's acceptable.

EDIT:
I just realized I didn't respond to NN.

Japan, just do what he says :P

I will probably take the pre-loaded charges in my small guns (don't need more then 2,000m to easily outgun infantry)

Hmmmm as for America I artillery wise I was going to use WWI tactics, Massive super heavy bombardments using heavy long range guns (possibly breach loading for my Heavy artillery at least) basically my idea was use a spotter plane to find where you where and blast you all to hell :P

@OMG I couldn't find much information on 19th-century Japanese artillery, so I based most of it on designs from the World Wars. The Type 889 was a nod to the relatively well-known Type 89 15cm cannon. @NN, thanks alot, I am aware that it wasn't really until the 20th century and the rise of 'state Shinto' that loyalty to the Emperor came to prominence, though Japanese fanaticism was around for centuries. Thanks to both of you for the 'teikoku banzai' thing. I shall be sure to add it to my factbook. I will be stressing the Emperor's divinity, since it's more fun playing an entire nation that's batshit insane and prepared to destroy itself for it's leader- works with my main nation :p

Organization is based on this Wikipedia article. Except each succesive unit will be far larger, since I have only got a few divisions, as opposed to 300 odd. This is to avoid the pain of writing 300 ORBATs. Of course, when the IJA was first formed, it had only 18 divisions.

IJA Divisions are tiny even compared to American Army. each of my Armies is made up of 2000 Regiments. Of 750 soldiers each, of course not all go into battle, the Engineer regiments are the logistical heart of my armies as well as the Artillery hands, but as you don't need 750 men to man several cannons, allot of them run their figures through the paperwork, and requisition what the armies need lol.

ha ha im actually inclined to believe that how ever if i ever meet an actual samurai (my bet is their still is Actual samurai about they simply have no power and wear pinstripe suits instead of armour) ill be sure to ask him lol, ive got the hard task of actually making sure no body dies! xD

oooh well. im, Itching to get another RP started as well, but im not sure what to do lol, i want it to be summit that will increase my nations reputation in the sol system and address some issues in the process lol sept i don't know many of my current issues other than the fact America once or twice tried to beat Spain up over Mexico and its solar property and failed miserably at it!

You couldn't have done too badly, since you own Cuba, the Philippines and Panama :P

As to the RP, I'm really tied up right now. I'd suggest trying to recruit a Spain and seeing if you could get anything going on that front :P

Wary, that is to say, sort of like the 19th century US, people didn't like the idea of a strong central government, much less one with big military.

Also, they're not surprised because the Russians have run into a few fractal Earth's so far. It's hard to be surprised the fourth or fifth time :P

I thought your crews lack of surprise may be along those lines, but yeh i might be following that RP seems fun, assuming you see starfleet to be some sort of unruly brigands lol that need to be dealt with xD

hmmm i do hope a new Spain comes around soon :P i will be the big bad bully. but other than that i have a colony to build up, right now it has a giant "Hub"(Basically a modular building that is meant to house the Governor and, his aides it also has substantial sectors for other things like the economy, and a space port control tower to be used untill the actual space port is built lol.) and several rather shabby looking houses littered around it. lol but then again what can you expect from 24 hours worth of work lol

Will be posting a proper factbook as I go along, but here are some general ideas for my state and technology.

Kaisereich Of Preussen:

Run by Kaiser Matthias Hohenzollern, the Kasiereich is a absolute monarchy that has recently begun a new program of rearmament and building (rebuilding) of industrial and research infrastructure. Tesla technology is going to play a major part in the military, and also in civilian life.

Fleet: Have not decided exactly on compositions but will probably include 2 Dreadnoughts and a "Interferrometer Ship" carrying a Tesla Howitzer. Then a number of AC, PC, and smaller vessels. Heh... Space U-Boats?

Army: Under Construction

Sorry for shortness of post, it is 3:07 AM.
