Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Senkaku
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Golden League

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Hanjin (Taozixing, Hanjin Electorate)
Nation(s) Involved: The Golden League

Description:
A massive explosion has occurred at the Karhal Lake surface facility used by the Hanjin Space Self-Defense Force to berth and repair its ships, believed to have originated from the heavy tender Mutsu (the lead vessel of the new Mutsu-class tenders), which had been undergoing minor refitting. The Mutsu was anchored in Karhal Lake, a large glacial lake located around 100 miles outside of Hanjin, and according to a terse press release put out by the Space Self-Defense Force, "suffered a catastrophic failure". The cause of the explosion remains under investigation and almost no details have been released, but the Hanjin State Political Office announced it was investigating possible political connections to the blast, hinting at foul play, and potentially at further reprisals by the regime against the Workers' Front political party. Hanjin has recently suffered political turmoil in the wake of the Liberty Coalition's victory over the Workers' Front in recent elections, which were followed by the implementation of martial law and massive purges by President Hu Nian against her political opponents in the WF. The entire Hanjin Electorate has also been paralyzed by the recent soba rust outbreak on Senryoku-3, which has caused serious disruption to daily life and has brought the Hu regime under fire from critics who have not been muzzled or arrested. At present, most information is coming from live drone and orbital feeds of the explosion site.

The blast itself created a spectacular mushroom cloud visible all the way from downtown Hanjin, more than 100 miles away, and initial reports indicate that the Karhal Lake facility has suffered immense damage. Orbital imagery shows that Mutsu appears to have settled and is now resting on the bottom of the lake, with only a few protruding elements remaining above the surface. Secondary explosions, apparently from within the ship, continue to occasionally perturb the lake's surface, and falling debris and thick smoke and clouds of steam have made repair and rescue efforts difficult. The Hanjin Urban Area Environmental Directorate has announced it is monitoring Karhal Lake's water levels, temperature, and radioactivity, and several metropolitan departments around Karhal Lake have been evacuated due to concern about larger secondary blasts. The number of dead and injured in the most severely affected departments is not known, but the Metropolitan Emergency Response Authority's spokespersons have stated they believe the total could rise into the hundreds or thousands, thanks to the incredible power of the explosion (which shattered windows and knocked people down as far as fifty miles away). Dozens elsewhere in Hanjin have been killed or injured by falling debris, which the Space Self-Defense Force has announced may be toxic or radioactive.
Potential Greater Impact(s):
If the State Political Office's investigation produces evidence of sabotage, it will almost certainly presage further political violence and instability in Hanjin, which has been on edge since the recent purges and declaration of martial law. Combined with the soba rust outbreak, Mutsu's destruction is also sure to herald further criticism, discontent towards, and backlash against the Hu regime.

Even if the city's deep political divisions end up remaining largely unaffected by Mutsu's explosion, the Space Self-Defense Force will be deeply impacted by the incident. The Karhal Lake arsenal is one of the SSDF's largest facilities and had a number of ships moored there along with thousands of personnel besides Mutsu and her crew. There are expected to be very heavy casualties in both ships and personnel, striking a severe blow against the SSDF's capabilities and morale, and these will also be depressed by the sudden unexpected loss of one of the force's newest, most powerful ships. Mutsu's sister ship Settsu is now the only next-generation heavy tender in service with the SSDF.

Activity Report Application

Submitting Party: Achesia
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Achesian Intercosmic Bastion

Thread Link(s): Edge of Intention
Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): The Sauria System
Nation(s) Involved: The Achesian Intercosmic Bastion, The Gish Empire, The Fedral Union, The Abraski, Ventorie, and the United Autonymous Republics of Ella2 6

Description: The Sauria System on the edge of Achesian space being home to several million ethnic Achesian migrants recently became familiar with large amounts of violent terrorist attacks and unrest. Gish Terrorists backed by the Gish Empire, a long-standing rival of the Achesian Intercosmic Bastion, have begun to commit large scale atrocities against ethnic Achesians as well as other species who stood in the path of such violence within the system. After a swift envelopment of several Achesian settlements, the government of the Achesian Intercosmic Bastion announced their intervention by sending a large task force to annex Sauria and bring it to heel by installing proper Achesian governorship.

Unbeknownst to the Achesians, the Gish Terrorists had also begun to acquire a weapon of massive destruction. This intelligence was only known to the Galactic Economic and Security Organization, which dispatched their own operatives from the ranks of the Federal Union and the Abraski militaries. These operatives managed to slip past the Achesian annexation force and insert themselves into the thick of the conflict on Sauria V during the initial invasion by the Achesians. On the surface, a hostage situation within one local establishment known as "the Blushing Moon" began to unfold as the Gish held several Achesian and Ellan expatriates as collateral to the Achesian forces. This coupled with the arrival of the Ventorie, a blood thirsty group that has offered their help to the Gish Terrorist, and political turbulence within the United Antonymous Republics, has created a tense situation on the ground.

Now new Achesian leadership has arrived on the scene in the form of Prince James Requient, the eldest son of the Ackular (the ruling Monarch within Achesia). His ruthless style of leadership, and violent tendencies have begun to further destabilized the situation as GESO ships begin to enter the system in hopes to explain their special operator's presence within Achesian annexed territory. The results of these many catalysts within the Sauria System remains to be seem. However, the Ackular- during his more active years- had been known to wield a deft and heavy hand during such situations.
Potential Greater Impact(s): Increased tension between Achesian and Gish forces, as renewed conflict may begin between the two star-states. Further expansion of the Achesian Intercosmic Bastion as it begins to make itself more known on the galactic scene. Lastly the impending death of the Ackular and the hotly contested line of succession for his crown.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Perseid Federation
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Kritarchy of Idruteia

Affected Quadrant(s): Alpha
Precise Locations (If Applicable): n/a
Nation(s) Involved: Idruteia, United Terran Alliance

Description: The Kritarchy of Idruteia has announced the formalization of a mutual defense pact between it and the United Terran Alliance. The announcement was made by the Arbiters of Diplomacy in a press conference right after the conclusion of Dicast Samaras Tsahalis' official state visit to the UTA, causing anxiety among many in the Alpha Quadrant.

The details of this pact have yet to be further clarified by the Dicastery and its Arbiter branches, and they may not want to reveal everything, but many believe it to comprise of military aid to one another should any of them come under attack from an outside power, a visiting forces agreement, joint military exercises between their armed forces, and sharing of military intelligence between the two countries.

Tsahalis has returned to Idruteia with several deals that were negotiated with the Terran government. Some of the deals include monetary aid from the UTA to the Kritarchy amounting to billions of Credits in order to help the Idruteian government respond more effectively to the Great Displacement, resettlement of unintegrated refugees currently in Terran systems to available Idruteian worlds, and investment by Terran investors into the Idruteian economy involving the development of trade and infrastructure. But it should be said that the Dicast has neglected to comment on the mutual defense pact when he was confronted with the media upon his return, something that has raised the eyebrows of political pundits. Tsahalis has promised to provide more information at another time, stating that "currently this is not the opportune time to disclose such sensitive information."

Potential Greater Impact(s): A mutual defense pact between Idruteia and the UTA would augment the defensive capabilities of both countries. The Terran military is backed by a strong economy that can provide and sustain its logistics lines with the Kritarchy, and the Idruteian armed forces can share some of their military technology to the Terrans and vice versa. It would also give Idruteia the added advantage of being included in the GESO defensive network.

Some have pointed out that it may be a step closer to the prospect of a more formal Idruteian-Terran alliance that may transcend more than just military cooperation and mutual defense. "This may pave the way for the Kritarchy's membership into the Galactic Economic and Security Organization," says Min'u Khnanisho, a political analyst and professor at the University of Casthanaia, and an expert on GESO astropolitics. "Should the Idruteian government wish to join hands with GESO, it would extend the alliance's reach towards the rimward regions of the Alpha Quadrant, opening the neglected nations of the rim to its collective markets."

Perhaps the elephant in the room that analysts have identified would be the effect on diplomatic relations between Idruteia and the Perseid Federation. Procne Mavridou, one of many concerned political analysts from the Omospondia, believes that this may reignite tensions between the two countries. She states, "While the Perseid government has taken this announcement fairly well, that doesn't mean that they will let this slide." Mavridou further comments that the Omospondia may be more cautious in dealing with the Kritarchy in any future diplomatic crises, as it may force Tharsis to activate its alliance with Neo Terra when threatened by the Perseids.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Free State Republic
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Federal Republic of Free States

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Republican Space, Capital System, Axul
Nation(s) Involved: Free State Republic

Description: With increasingly troubling reports returning back from the Citic Colonial System for consecutive cycles the convened Federal Senate’s current topic of conversation has quickly been centered on the strategically positioned region at the conflux of the Liu Xiu Trade Corridor and the Lanthe Route. Two of the most trafficked avenues of commerce in the galaxy begin to blend at the front step of the Republican system. Making the security and productivity of the system a constant task of the Republic, at the request of the President and High Command the Senate authorized an Expeditionary Naval Group comprised of sixteen vessels of the Republican Spatial Navy to be dispatched to the Citic System to assist the regional and federal forces already in place in quelling the instability and crush the insurgency. This is the largest maneuver of Republican Forces to be authorized by the Senate since the expeditionary naval group sent to partake in joint LOTUS security activities. To join the dialog within the Senate of the security situation of Citic, the senate committee on security has continued its ever present clamoring to continue bolstering the Crumple Zone which marks deeper Gamma from Republican Territory. Committee Chair Susyn Bralen herself has sponsored two defense appropriation bills totaling together in the tens of trillions of Lica for vote this afternoon. Intending to be a large investment by the Federal Government for the foreseeable future in its armed forces given the current shaky security situation in Citic and overall growing defense needs the appropriations bills are seen as a bit of a necessity by some in the Senate. At this point given the current discourse flowing out of the Senate, it seems these two bills will pass with resounding success. Giving the Republic’s defense forces a large sum of funds for investment for procurement, training, and development.

This sort of news hitting the wire before the Reython Exchange opened for trade gave investors plenty of time to prepare, soon after the opening bell range a large swing up in stock prices in the defense sector occurred. Several companies such as the Belton Gun Company, Nydalso Spatial Yards as well as Mithar Motors have seen record highs hit this morning on the exchange, with other defense companies rising along with them. Consequently, the news of the worrisome Citic system has sent various companies involved with importing and exporting based in that region into a short sell off. Larger companies with deep investments and infrastructure in the Lanthe and Liu Xiu have seen their prices hover for the moment; any worse incoming news from the Citic region may send a worrying reaction to occur in the exchange. Some financial experts have begun to question where the Federal Government will procure the funds for the appropriations bill, pointing out that these two bills will bring the governmental budget far in the red for the year. Rumors of foreign investment have bubbled up to the top of some “non-mainstream” news sources, but the official pipelines report nothing of the sort occurring between the Republic and foreign states.

Potential Greater Impact(s): News of the Republic sending such a large force to reign in a troubled system situated in such a crucial area may make current allies and associations question the status of the Republic as a secured entity, as well as question the ability of the Republic to respond to internal crises. Consequently news of a massive defense re-investment by the Republic may worry nearby neighbors who fear the Republic may have expansionary motives which masquerade as internal defense concerns. As the Republic maneuvers itself to attempt to regain complete control of the Citic system and the surrounding trade lanes, some analysts have expressed concern at the possibility of further entanglement with polities who frequent these trade lanes. Some talking heads in the news have begun to argue that the exposure to the greater galaxy offered by the Lanthe and Liu Xiu have led to the instability plaguing the Citic System as well as some of the resentment being expressed in rallies and protests in other population centers in the Republic, calling for a complete shutdown of inter-galactic commerce and trade. While others in the Senate rebuke those statements, instead doubling down on their belief that inter-connectivity and expansive trade and commerce can only bring positive changes to the Republic. This internal conflict beginning to form between opposing political and social groups has the possibility to affect several foreign as well as domestic policies as the skirmish lines are beginning to form in the legislature. Policies regarding defense, immigration, trade, and commerce all have the potential to be effected depending on the political battles looming on the horizon. The unfounded rumor of foriegn capitol being recieved by the Federal Government has permeated several non-interventionist and home focused groups becoming a hot button talking point, which may breed further discontent towards the Government within these groups.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Vernii
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Imperium of Vernii

Affected Quadrant(s): Alpha, Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Liu Xiu, Lanthe Route
Nation(s) Involved: Imperium of Vernii

Description: The Imperial Navy of Vernii (IVN) announced it has commenced a large scale deployment outside of the Raumreich Oversector as part of a general readiness exercise. This component of the exercise will be conducted along the Lanthe Route and its nearby volumes, culminating in the vicinity of the Liu Xiu system. The Navy Office of Information (NOI) released a short statement regarding the deployment:

Navy Office of Information wrote: Operation Marathon's intentions are to build real-world proficiency in conducting long-range operations. Marathon will also provide valuable data and experience in evaluating the speed with which the Navy can respond to emerging threats on the frontier, and the duration with which it can carry out operations without a full-fledged supply chain. Vice Admiral Sidney Church is commanding from the dreadnought Superb; participating units include a battle squadron from Capital Fleet, two battlecruiser squadrons from both Capital Fleet and Second Fleet, and logistics support and screening elements. In addition to building the Navy's capabilities, Vice Admiral Church's forces will conduct joint-training and subject matter exchanges with Ministry of Frontier Stability assets.

Potential Greater Impact(s): This training exercise marks the furthest deployment that any capital warships of the Imperial Navy have ever made, and the first time in a century that more than a handful of the Imperial Navy's capital warships have left the Raumreich Oversector. It is a manifestation of the Imperium's various security organs concern that the informal understanding between the Imperial Navy and Ministry of Frontier Stability (MFS) regarding areas of responsibility have left the Imperium's interests sorely under-protected. This view has been driven by the emergence of new power blocs and treaty structures such as LOTUS and the Nassau Accords, as well as the Great Displacement and the instability it brought to numerous systems and polities.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: United Central News Corp
Nation Name of Submitting Party: United Star Commonwealth (Intersteller Terra)

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Mid point between United Star Commonwealth and the Imperial Federal Union, Perseus Galactic Arm
Nation(s) Involved: United Star Commonwealth + Other Nassau Accord Signatory Nations

Description:
Centre Point Station Construction officially begins.

As of 03.00am Thompson time the first construction vessels entered the System of CSTU-3446620-134432 now locally known as The Hub, under the protection of elements of the Nassau Accord Coalition fleet. Centre Point Station as it has been dubbed is to be the largest stepping stone ever constructed in the Beta Quadrant and the mid point for the Trans Betan Expressway, a trade route designed to connect all of the Beta Quadrant once more and encourage stability and growth within it.

A spokes person for Halo Construction Ltd, the company contracted to begin the construction of Centre Point Station was canted for a quote on what was planned for the station.

"Whilst i cant give to much away at this point I can say that the initial phase one station structure was completed at Thompson Orbital Ring Yards some time ago and it is due to be moored in orbit around The Hubs Main star within the next week. Construction vessels have already began the process of clearing any space debris and asteroids that may be potential hazards to the station. All in all we hope to have the station operational within the next few months."

Even though the station isnt currently in place corporations of all sizes from the USC have started putting in requests for space and berths in the new station, many eager to use the first station of the Trans Betan Expressway as a stop gap to gain access to the Imperial Federal Union markets on the other side of the Beta Quadrant.

Potential Greater Impact(s): The first station is being seen by many in the USC and other Nassau Accord Signatories as the first step at shining a light into the heart of the Beta Quadrant and breathing the life into what was once seen as the fastest growing quadrant in the galaxy. The station is rumoured to have a sizeable defence force made up of military vessels and personnel from several Nassau Accord Signatory states in an effort to protect the venture from potential raiders and pirates and begin their mandate to stabilise regions of the beta quadrant in order to allow trade to flourish. Some however remain sceptical believing that Centre Point Station would be a beacon to any would be pirate and raider in the entire quadrant giving them something to focus on instead of lurking in the shadows.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Valinon
Nation Name of Submitting Party: United Star Empire of Valinon

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Citic colonial system
Nation(s) Involved: United Star Empire of Valinon, Free State Republic

Description:
The latest edition of KM News Quarterly, published on behalf Kriegsmarine by the Public Affairs Office (PAO) of the Imperial Armed Forces (IAF), drew increased media scrutiny when the Deployment Observer included the listing of a peacekeeping mission to the Citic system.

While not a complete list of active KM deployments and missions, the Deployment Observer section typically includes peacekeeping and commerce protection missions as a matter of public record. International and Raumreich news media outlets singled out the deployment of the HMS Crowned Owl, a destroyer currently attached to EXROA-COM, when its mission was described as ‘evaluatory peacekeeping study to extra-Lanthine space’. The mission is commanded by Fregattenkapitän Martin Koppe, formerly attached to the Tenth Star Lord’s command staff. The lack of information and the high-ranking CO drove considerable speculation and requests for comments, which were initially ignored by the PAO and the Admiralstab’s Office for Naval Information and Communication (ONIC).

Media queries were finally addressed in a statement published by the PAO.

After consultation with the Admiralstab and Großadmiral Tolwyn, the PAO confirms the deployment of HMS Crowned Owl as part of EXROA-COM’s developing programme of peacekeeping and international aid missions. Fregattenkapitän Koppe is being temporarily detached from the admiral’s command staff to assess current conditions in the Citic colonial system, a dependency of the Free State Republic.

Both the government and Kriegsmarine are concerned by recent developments in the system and their potential impact on commerce and free navigation of systems beyond the Lanthe Route. The military observer mission is intended to evaluate the success of the Republican Spatial Navy’s counter-insurgency efforts in the system and advise on possible areas between EXROA-COM and the federal military. Großadmiral Tolwyn believes this is an opportunity to coordinate existing commerce protection activities with FSR efforts to limit the flow of weapons and other prohibited materials to the insurgents.

While both the Admiralstab and EXROA-COM acknowledge the mission is not bound by a specific timeline, the deployment is not currently planned to last longer than a month. Any further details about this mission will be reported in the following edition of KM News Quarterly. Local developments and reports of the mission are to be classified.

Generalleutnant Yan Song,
Chief of Public Affairs
Großer Generalstab
Office of the Reichsprotektor

Potential Greater Impact(s): In a rare example of the IAF bowing to media and public pressure, the statement issues by PAO may best be described as the Kriegsmarine and EXROA-COM admitting effort to bury this observer mission failed. Both the Kriegsmarine and the Reichswehr routinely use formal observer missions to study evolving strategic conditions throughout the galaxy, but these are most frequently assigned to areas where Valinon is either a neutral state in a conflict, an international humanitarian observer, or supporting a key ally.

None of these quite describes the empire’s relationship with the FSR. EXROA-COM is currently following the proceedings of the republic’s investigation into the escape of Cornelio Morevedra, a terrorist aligned with a radical Citic independence movement, from the custody of the Federal Marshal Service. Morvedra was being extradited to the FSR by the Office of Verge Affairs (OVA) when the prisoner transfer was attacked by an as of yet unidentified force. The Tenth Star Lord has also stated his preference for a closer partnership between his command and the Republican Spatial Navy in regards to both commerce protection and other naval activities near the Lanthe, but no formal arrangement has been indicated by either state’s government.

A military observer mission studying possibly peacekeeping operations is an activity more common to OVA’s Verge Security forces or the KM deployments in the Solarian Reaches. The KM routinely used these missions to patrol the former space of the Ortagan Hegemony during the period of international occupation after the Great March War and to minimise disruption of imperial interests during the Beta Quadrant Collapse. These missions preceded a formal decision to create a larger military operation either as a unilateral intervention or a mission sponsored by the League of the Raumreich.

Several observers have noted the military statement was not shadowed by any comment from the Metternicht Government. Following Foreign Minister von Gentz’s statement after Morevedra’s escape, information on the diplomatic discourse between Valinon and the FSR retreated into closed, high-level negotiations. An effort to address the issue in Prime Minister’s Questions several weeks ago was ended when Archduke von Metternicht informed the Speaker no comment was possible as the issue of the empire’s relation with the Free State Republic was presently under direct review by the Imperial Special Select Committee for Defence and Security. More commonly known as the Committee for Imperial Defence, this formerly ad hoc group is the highest governmental body charged with formulating defence policies. Its membership includes the Monarch, the Reichsprotektor, the Imperial Prime Minister, representatives from the Armed Forces’ branches, the directors of the intelligence and security services, and several other Government officials.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Serukta Sehkrisaal
Nation Name of Submitting Party: In-Character Not Applicable/Non-state Entity

Affected Quadrant(s): Alpha and Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Axul System, Federal Republic of Free States ("Free State Republic")
Nation(s) Involved:
Description: In the wake of the the defense sector boom in the Free State Republic and the highly bullish market trend in the Reython Exchange, Nydalso Spatial Yards has come under new ownership following what appears to have primarily been a creeping tender offer conducted over the past eight months, amounting to a hostile takeover of Nydalso Spatial Yards - a publicly traded company - by a foreign party.

According to a combined statement by Harald Duvoss (Chairman, Federal Exchange Commission, FSR), Katarine Ulayd (Chief Executive Officer, Reython Automated Securities Exchange [RASE], FSR), and Adrian Rhett (Founder and Chairman, Rhett Financial, Valinon by-way-of the Unicae Consortium; SIC proxy of the "White Bank") following a private announcement at the 20.0016 (Galactic Standard Year) General Shareholders Meeting of Nydalso - and following significant backlash by four of the eleven members of Nydalso's Board of Directors - Rhett Financial became majority shareholder (56.4%) of Nydalso Spatial Yards as effect of a sustained creeping tender offer in combination with several, high-volume share transfer certifications over the past eight months. Chairman Duvoss of the Free State Republic's Federal Exchange Commission (the regulatory body charged with oversight of securities and financial instrument sales, transfers, and related markets) stated:

"It is understandable that citizens of the Republic may be concerned by this occurrence. Understand, however, that we are a free, republican society that supports not only private enterprise, but the market in general. What we have today is not something to fear, but something to be proud of. The Free State Republic and, more broadly, the ventures of private industry and entrepreneurs, have shown they are able to 'play in the big league,' so to speak; we are actors in the galactic economy. That means change is inevitable. [...] Without placing my personal opinion as to this acquisition, I will state that, by all accounting, Rhett Financial and its subsidiaries and partners have, since the beginning, upheld their integrity in legally-obligated reporting and, furthermore, have maintained a rigorous channel of transparent communication with [the Federal Exchange Commission] throughout this process in order to ensure the legality of their actions. The FEC can ascribe no surreptitious undertakings to Rhett Financial or its partners."
Following the announcement, as required by federal law, Rhett Financial through a whole-subsidiary branch, Free State United Investments (FSUI), released a statement as to the trading activities undertaken during the prior six months involving the acquisition of Nydalso Spatial Yards. The statement accounts for some three gigabytes of information and was initially released to Nydalso and its shareholders at the NSY General Shareholders Meeting. It contains information revealing that Free State United Investments acted as the primary "acquirer" of Nydalso Spatial Yards, but not the sole party involved. Some fifty other corporations and partnerships were involved, including: Star Ring Holdings (a holding corporation; majority ownership by FSUI, whole-subsidiary of Rhett Financial; incorporated in Axul), Axul United Finance (doing-business-as "United Bank of Axul"; majority ownership by Juvayne Star Traders, in-turn majority-owned by Rhett Financial; incorporated in Axul), and Deliente Shipping (majority ownership by XeTeL Commerce, in-turn majority-owned by Rhett Financial; incorporated outside of the Republic).

According to the statement provided, a majority of share purchases conducted were executed in pre-market (21.1%) and after-hours trading (33.2%); some 19.8% of the shares acquired were through private "sale" - legally gifting - of high-volume share certificates, the public identification of which individuals were involved thus being legally obscured by the 20.0016 Financial Privacy Act which, while requiring said transfers to be reported for taxation purposes, barred the Federal Exchange Commission or related transfer agents from publicly divulging the identities of those involved without written and notarized permission from all involved parties; the remainder (25.9%) were conducted during peak trading hours.

As a part of the general, joint announcement, Adrian Rhett made a statement in regards to Frontier Bulletin reporter Mattias Vern's question regarding Rhett's/Rhett Financial's intent behind the acquisition of Nydalso:

"My history, quite obviously, precedes me, but I wish to assure the citizens of the Republic that this is not some pernicious ploy - I will not be ripping the company out from beneath you, nor will I be liquidating its assets. Citizens of the Republic - workers with wills as strong as their backs - built this company, drive this company, and continue to be the backbone of innovation in the frontier sectors. That is not something I intend to change. [...] I, both personally and as a representative of Rhett Financial, have invested millions of lica into the Republic's economy, not due to greed, but due to my sincerely-held belief that the Republic has for far too long suffered beneath an isolationist undercurrent that has stymied its growth. [...] What I desire - and what I intend to do - is provide Nydalso and its partners the much-needed room and investment to grow, to prosper, and to surpass its status as the premier shipwright of the Republic, but in the whole of the frontier."

Despite the assurances made by Rhett, the FEC, and Reython, concerns have been expressed. Senator Jabriel DeFontin (minority co-chair of the Senate Committee for Public Transparency), made a public statement several hours after the announcement, questioning not merely the acquisition of Nydalso, but the integrity of the Federal Exchange Commission and the Reython Exchange. "I think this warrants a looking into," she stated, "and I mean the whole lot of them."

Vice-President and President of the Senate David Rosen responded, stating bluntly: "Honorable DeFontin, this seems to be little more than the indulgence of the same sort of conspiracy theories you see across the GalactiNet. If anything, this is partisan political theater and expresses nothing more than your contempt of the administration's open and diplomatic approach to not merely commercial relations, but foreign policy."

Despite Rosen's assertions, however, a segment of the Republic's population - namely attributed to a growing, pro-isolationist movement that has repeatedly reared into view in the past year - has criticized Nydalso's acquisition by a corporation owned by a foreign national. This recent criticism has largely been spear-headed by XenoWatch founder Mykall Henrisett. Though unable to cite his sources, Henrisett claims:

"They've gone to considerable lengths to hide it, but my sources are never wrong. Appears Rhett is up to his usual game - slimy [expletive] that he is. [...] Three weeks ago, just after the market went bull, my sources say Free State United Investments transferred some 70,000 shares of Belton stock - about 46% of their outstanding stock - back to the company. You read that right, folks. FSUI - and thus the slimy [expletive] himself - almost had control of the largest arms manufacturer in the Republic. Why didn't he? Why didn't he take it, too, hm? Well, looks to be Belton was willing to drop a little over 23 million lica to buy-back the shares that had been bought right out from under their noses. [...] That's about a 60% premium over the value of those shares at the time. The [expletive] gave them one hell of a goodbye kiss."

Henrisett elaborated - and continues to elaborate - further, going so far as to claim Rhett Financial (through Free State United Investments) greenmailed Belton Gun Company in order to finance the final push to take Nydalso. Neither Reython nor Adrian Rhett have deigned Henrisett with a comment, though a representative of the Federal Exchange Commission did state that "whatever business may (or may not) have been conducted between Belton and United Investments most assuredly conformed with all regulatory guidelines," further stating that in the event any two parties conducted such an action as Henrisett described, it would likely fall under the purview of the Financial Privacy Act as a shares transfer, and thus the FEC is prohibited from publicly divulging information.

Potential Greater Impact(s): The potential impacts for the Free State Republic are considerable, to possibly include frontier shipping and heavy industry manufacturing in surrounding sectors in general.

Nydalso Spatial Yards is the largest and premier shipwright in the Republic, with some 45% of its contracts being directly related to construction of vessels within the Republican Spatial Navy - to include not merely logistical vessels, but military vessels as well. In 20.0015 GSY, Nydalso won 88% of all bid contracts opened by the Department of the Spatial Navy, vastly over-whelming its closest competitor, Jennatrax Heavy Industries (8%) in the same year. With Nydalso's purchase by companies which are majority-controlled or wholly-owned subsidiaries of Rhett Financial, it means the Free State Republic's largest shipwright contractor is functionally under the control of a foreign national. This is of particular concern given Adrian Rhett's history in finance and mergers/acquisitions.

Adrian Rhett, a citizen of the United Star Empire of Valinon, incorporated Rhett Financial in the Unicae Consortium (a constituent entity of the Associated Crown Territory of the Lanthe) - specifically on the Leviny Ring, a massive ring megastructure habitat and the oldest said habitat on the Lanthe Route. Before its incorporation, Rhett worked within the Seisinger Financial Group, a large financial institution that functions within the so-called "Turin Combine" (renowned for other institutions such as the United Pholus Banking Guild and Tactical Solutions Group). During his tenure at Seisinger, Rhett gained a reputation as a corporate raider - namely acquiring resistant corporations through hostile takeovers, subsequently to restructure or liquidate them outright. Since departing Seisinger, however, Rhett has primarily focused on financial consultation and brokerage, focusing on providing financial advisement to investors with regards to "frontier economics" - namely providing investment advice as it relates to burgeoning ventures in developing economies in the Gamma Quadrant. This constitutes the bulk of Rhett Financial's activities, to the addition of Rhett's personal practices.

Given Rhett Financial has seized Nydalso Spatial Yards, there is considerable concern among portions of the Free State Republic that it is on the chopping block, despite Rhett's assertions to the opposite. As of yet, the new owners of Nydalso have not replaced the Board of Directors - something easily accomplished with their majority control in the company; Rhett Financial has stated it does not, at this time, seek replacement of the current Board. In the event it did, however, not only would it mean Nydalso would be owned by a foreign national, but its day-to-day operations would become controlled by parties elected with stock-votes by the same, essentially granting nigh-uncontested control of Nydalso's business practices to someone other than a Republican citizen and, potentially, thus granting a foreign national considerable sway in how, when, and for how much the Republican Spatial Navy can create or replenish its military assets.

In the event Rhett Financial continues bolstering Nydalso, however, it would mean not only would Nydalso act with considerable investment domestically, but potentially abroad. Adrian Rhett is known to have considerable weight within certain Valinor circles in the finance sector, something which could further compliment Rhett Financial's ability to grow Nydalso into a considerable competitor in interstellar heavy industry in Gamma and parts of the Alpha Quadrant.

Further, with the purchase of Nydalso by a foreign national, bolstering of a growing isolationist movement, something spurred by a combination of inherent Republican isolationist discourse and the ongoing Citic Crisis, is probable. Outlets such as XenoWatch have already pounced on Nydalso's acquisition as proof of what some in the movement have termed the "corruption of Republican interests by outsiders" and, in even more derisive rhetoric, "the subsuming of Republican human interests by foreign ones only seeking to undermine the republic." It is possible, especially in light of the Citic Crisis - a calamity some cite as being catalyzed by the acceptance of xenomorphic refugees or refugees in general - that even more staunch opposition may arise, drawing-out not merely concerned portions of the citizenry, but more radical, prejudicial, and xenophobic groups.

Lastly, with the current administration's embrace of foreign commerce and a more "open" foreign policy, factions within the Republic's legislature have begun to form, and not strictly based upon party lines. These factions largely consist of a group which seeks to not only maintain the status quo of openness, but bolster it by embracing a more diverse foreign policy - to include the opening of formal diplomatic relations with majority non-human star-states - and a group which seeks to counteract this trend and return the Republic to a more cautious and conservative approach to foreign policy, which - by some accounts - includes a more strict set of requirements for the establishing of foreign relations.

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Helmrakai System, Republic of North Mack
Nation(s) Involved: Thrashia, North Mack

Description: *Imperial newscaster Jhomlin Loag, broadcasting from New Bastion*

"It is a surprising turn of events! News has now reached us that the Imperial Fleet flotilla, that had been sent to avenge the possibly decapitation of the North Mackian Empire, is returning home! The boys and girls in grey managed to destroy the outlaw, rogue forces of the roving Ravagers in the Helmrakai System. A ground battle took place near the capitol city there, where reports indicate that none other than Michael Noventa - son of our beloved Grand Moff Noventa - commanded a sterling action against the enemy! The Imperial Army reports that losses were minimal while the Ravager ground forces were completely annihilated. Imperial Commodore Joanna Bonny, commanding, found the surviving members of the legitimate North Mackian government and control of the system was subsequently returned to its rightful owners. The experts down at the Imperial Foreign Office must be having a party! As should we all! The Grand Moff's office released a statement earlier today expressing great joy at the victory and promising to expand diplomatic relations with the North Mackians. Already, offers of monetary relief and other vital services are being offered. Today is a great day for the Imperia military. Now back to you, Dromlin, with the latest in sports news...."

Potential Greater Impact(s): With the successful operation to liberate Helmrakai, relations between the Republic of North Mack and the Thrashian Empire should improve, further strengthening an old and long-standing relationship between the two powers.

Submitting Party: The Rhustarim Hegemony
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Rhustarim Hegemony

Thread Link(s): The Proverbial Straw
Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Undefined system near the Alpha/Beta Border
Nation(s) Involved: The Rhustarim Hegemony, the United Star Commonwealth

Description:
Following a deployment of a hegemonic dyson seeder into an uninhabited system, tension has been brewing between the Hegemony and the USC. While the initial probing of the system declared it uninhabited, in the interim period between the drone probe's departure and the arrival of the seeder a USC outpost was established. The Seeder and its two Sintellects, due to anomalous conditions, failed to detect this outpost until automated mining hives had already been dispatched.

Upon discovery, the lead Sintellect returned its passengers to stasis until the Hegemonic Foreign Affairs Directory could settle the issue. The Seeder had already been deployed, beginning the construction of a dyson network as well as establishing an administration outpost on a small moon in the system with rhustarim inhabitants. Diplomatic negotiations were ongoing for some time, with neither stellar state willing to accede control of the system. The rhustarim declared a willingness to share the available space and resources, but sources inside the Commonwealth have expressed a distrust of the hegemonic intention. There was the question of a potential weapons launch towards the planet housing the Commonwealth outpost, and although the rhustarim claim this was an automated - and quite likely faulty - nanohive factory, USC forces do not appear convinced. At the very least, there was cause for concern that a self-replicating factory may be yet-functional on their claimed planet despite Hegemonic protests to the contrary.

As discussions reached a lull point - the USC demanding that at the least the rhustarim dyson structure is removed from the system, while the Hegemony maintained it is unwilling to (though it has been suggested it is incapable of) removing the fledgling megastructure - tensions within the system rapidly spiraled out of control, with the local USC forces establishing a blockade of the Hegemonic administration facility. It is unknown at this point whether such a move was sanctioned by the USC government. When a rhustarim transport, housing roughly forty organic rhustarim and one of their artifical intelligences, attempted to break the blockade the vessel was destroyed by USC forces. There were no survivors. USC reports from within the system indicate either that the transport was in fact armed, or that it had activated a nano-weapon on the surface of the USC colony. Rhustarim representatives maintain the vessel was in fact issuing a killcode for nanofabricators on the planet. As of yet, no hard evidence has been evaluated by a neutral party in favour of either story.

BREAKING NEWS: Early reports from sources within the USC colony indicate that a detachment of Hegemonic warships have rapidly appeared in-system and issued an ultimatum to the USC citizens and naval assets, tantamount to 'leave or be destroyed'. The veracity of these claims has yet to be verified. Hegemonic officials were not available to comment.

Potential Greater Impact(s):
The Hegemony is very verbal about the sanctity of its citizens lives and freedoms, and the blockade was already being spoken of within the Senate as large scale kidnapping. The destruction of a high-level Sintellect (as well as several passengers aboard it) and risk of another Sintellect (housing a population in the thousands) becoming a hostage combined to force the Hegemony's hand. Likewise, USC forces within the system are very clearly unnerved by the scale of technological capacity exhibited by the rapid deployment of such a massive megastructure and may wish to prevent the rhustarim from gaining any kind of hard industrial foothold in their sphere of influence.

The Alpha/Beta Periphery is incredibly densely populated, and the effect of potential war on travel could be disastrous. Although the current conflict is firmly within the Beta quadrant, the hegemonic core worlds largely lie in two systems in Alpha. Neither the USC nor the Hegemony have any recorded history of interstellar war, and as such noone can say how either government will act to secure their interests or protects their citizens. While the industrial base (and indeed the military) of the USC is substantially larger than the Hegemony's, it cannot be denied that any nation capable of producing such a variety of megastructures so quickly has the potential to at the very least give the USC a bloody nose. While the conflict is contained to a small scale skirmish in a single system for now, both factions have some considerable capacity for it to engulf much larger regions of the area should the skirmish escalate into all out war.

Further potential concern lies in the diplomatic ties of both nations. The Hegemony has recently secured a treaty with the Valinor of the Raumreich Oversector, while the Star Commonwealth has friends through its Nassau Accords. Whether other interstellar polities will support either side in the brewing conflict remains to be seen.

Affected Quadrant(s): Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Jublai System, Ithar Belt
Nation(s) Involved: Anyone who wants to join

Description: Some Earth weeks ago a new republic claimed independence from Jubaal. This wasn't kindly accepted by the Government which immidiently set out to attack the newly proclaimed republic. The republic, the Free Miners' Republic (FMR), is located in the Ithar asteroid belt. It was claimed by a rebellious group of miners as the asteroid was a former Jubaali mining colony. As a military battle cruiser came to occupy the FMR, it was quickly neutralized by FMR forces who'd gotten their hands on some anti-ship missiles. Jubaal was now at war with the FMR. The Jubaali government is now calling for support to attack this possibly heavily armed republic.
Potential Greater Impact(s): The existence of the FMR may lead to further domestic conflict within the Jubaali Colonies and may decentralize the galactic market on Jublium a mineral currently only available in the Jublai System.

Submitting Party: Gamma Trade Federation.
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Gamma Trade Federation, Cliveon(Home world).

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma.
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Cliveon(Home world), Cliveon star system.
Nation(s) Involved: Gamma Trade Federation, any other fellow nations in Gamma.

Description: In a move that was widely supported throughout the Federation's parliament was the notion to pass economic legislation that would allow the Gamma Trade Federation, a federation of several small star systems and there planets who came together for protection and economic security and advancement. Passed the 'Trade and Prosperity' accord that out lined a significant goal of improving the state of trade and economic activity in the Gamma Quadrant. The accord called for the rise of a significant 'private military company' that could allow for the completion of the first out lined objective of the Trade and Prosperity Accord which was to combat the rampant piracy that in the Gamma Quadrant has "spiraled out of control" and that since the Gamma Trade Federation would be unable to build the suggested force that would be required to combat such a threat that the need for mercenaries would be at a all time high to bring the quadrant back under order. However just months before this move, parliament had passed the 'Trade Defense Act' which had called for the Federation's Navy to expand it's operations from protecting sovereign federation space to outreaching this protection to "where ever the merchant fleet of the Federation goes, our Navy too shall go.".

This in light of the now recently passed 'Trade and Prosperity' Accord, debate has been rampant in Parliament and in much of the Federation's government about the steady rise of the defense industry and the status of the Trade Federation Military. The Federation's defense minister had stated that "The TFM are working on appeasing man power shortages and it's out dated arsenal and equipment". With the Gamma Trade Federation wanting to get in on the fight against rampant piracy in it's local quadrant, the TFM have begun rampant recruitment drives and rumor has it have been pooling in on it's criminal population to satisfy the needs of the military which has resulted in some debates and protests.
Potential Greater Impact(s):
The Gamma Trade Federation have begun to voice a more active agenda in improving the state and welfare of up and coming civilizations in Gamma Quadrant. Thus it has begun to pass legislation that would see it's commerce and business be allowed to go and expand there activities in other systems foreign to the Gamma Trade Federation. It has also begun to enlist the services of Private military companies across the Galaxy to help in the fight against what has been labeled by politicians in Cliveon as "rampant terrorism" in the Gamma Quadrant, because of this and the fees that would need to be paid. The GTF have begun seeking trade relations with neighboring star states in the quadrant and beyond to help fund these efforts as well as improve the Trade Federation's own economy.

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Poltaur, Tauris- SCU Space
Nation(s) Involved:SCU, Tharwatine, Idoa, FRFS, Perseid Federation

Description:

With the usurping faction known as the EMA now surrounded on the ravaged world of Tauris and their remaining space forces either surrendering or scattering to non-federated space a victory for LOTUS and the Federalist Civilian government is all but assured in the coming weeks. However Corporate warlords still maintain control on the fringes of Union space and a long period reclamation and rebuilding will have to be undertaken by the quickly reassembling Federal Government. While this means that the fighting will continue in sporadic engagements for the foreseeable future it also presents an incredible economic opportunity as trillions will be handed out in contracts to rebuild and rearm the battered and depleted Union.

It is unclear whether the LOTUS coalition will be willing to commit to the long term operation of securing and rebuilding the periphery of Union Space and whether or not the Union will emerge hobbled or resurgent from the grueling civil war that is now drawing to a close after more than 100 Million deaths.

Potential Greater Impact(s): An economic boom in the Beta Quadrant as a massive spike in the demand for just about every heavy industry and service needed to rebuild the multiple planets that have been entirely ravaged by the brutal civil war. Any polity seeking to expand its influence could also find a suitable target for manipulation in the form of a weakened and fatigued SCU.

Nation(s) Involved: Empire of Thrashia, various NPCs, PC Nations: TBD

Description: The Empire of Thrashia has, for nearly three decades, existed as a nation with feet planted in two galaxies. Due to a decision made at the highest levels of government and in order to divest itself of the tumultuous affairs and conflicts that are rising in the wake of the Great Chaos War that took place within the Star Wars Galaxy, the Thrashian Empire is seeking new horizons. Utilizing its massive military and government-sponsored nationalization of resources, the Empire of Thrashia, it's citizens, infrastructure, military and what resources can be carried have arrived within the Beta Quadrant with the intention of resettlement. Whereas previously the presence of the Thrashian Empire within the Beta Quadrant had been light, with only a half dozen systems under its sovereign control and single sector that were moderately under its suzerainty, this new arrival heralds the coming of a new era. The full might and presence of the Thrashian Empire will now be felt within the Beta Quadrant. Within the first week of the Imperial military's arrival, a snap campaign was launched across nearly a dozen sectors -- largely within the fringe areas of the Beta Quadrant.

There has also been a restructuring of the Empire's government and the crowning of a new ruler, Dowager Empress Dheinalia Vera Nuruodo. Wife of the slain hero of the Empire, Grand Admiral Thrawn, and daughter of the former Imperial Regent, Ardus Kaine, she has received the full backing of the Imperial Moff Council, led by Grand Moff Alexandros Noventa. With her coronation and the resettlement being handled carefully and as quickly as possible, a vibrant feeling of hope and a desire to explore new frontiers has spread itself throughout the citizenry of the Empire.

Potential Greater Impact(s): With the settlement of the Empire of Thrashia fully within the Beta Quadrant, what had formerly been a minor power has become amplified to unexpectedly higher levels. The full implications of this arrival are not yet known, however it can be assured that the Beta Quadrant will not be the same.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Perseid Federation
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Perseid Federation

Affected Quadrant(s): Alpha, Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable):
Nation(s) Involved: Perseid Federation, Free State Republic

Description: It may well be a short while before we'll see a Perseid peacekeeping force deployed to the Citic Crisis, as certain officials of the Organ of Defence have dropped hints of possible intervention by the Astrostratos in the Free State Republic.

As the situation in the Citic System continues to deteriorate, it has become apparent that other nations aren't just going to leave the Free State Republic to their own devices. One of these nations, the Perseid Federation, has expressed concerns over the security issue in the FSR—since the latter is a major trading partner of the Omospondia through the Sivulon Trade Network and a well-recognized member of the League of Organized Territories and United Systems.

The Organ of Defence and the rest of the Archonate have declined to clarify the statements that were made, but the Astronautikon has stated that it is on high alert for any potential developments.

Potential Greater Impact(s): The announcement of a more substantial peacekeeping force has raised some optimism over the resolution of the crisis. Many have observed that despite attempts to suppress civil unrest in the colony, Axul simply doesn't have the resources necessary to prevent instability. A Perseid peacekeeping force can be sustained for longer thanks to a more robust system of logistics that the Astronautikon operates under during peacetime operations.

Another reason would be to prevent the Citic Crisis from potentially causing a fallout of piracy, terrorism, and political unrest in the Sivulon Trade Network. This may be seen as a strategic move on the Omospondia's part, but Procne Mavridou, a political analyst writing for the Sivulon Tribune, warns that "the situation on the ground in Citic may be even more complicated than what any outside actors may perceive."

However, many have questioned the supposed benefits that a Perseid intervention in Citic will make. Critics have expressed that an intervention in Citic would lead to the Perseid military getting entangled with the crisis. This is indeed a likely scenario due to the number of actors involved in the crisis that could potentially force the Astrostratos to prolong their operations until such time that tensions die down. This ties in with another concern—the limited power projection capability of the Astronautikon.

Some have pointed to a more secretive manifestation of astropolitics behind the scenes. Procne Mavridou has stated in an editorial, "the Perseid government is fully aware of the steadily decline of their diplomatic influence over the Free State Republic as the latter opens itself to other established powers in the quadrant such as [the United Star Empire of] Valinon and [the Imperium of] Vernii. Because these two powers have been considering to observe the Citic Crisis more intently, and indeed they have made their intentions known, Xenia is scrambling to preserve whatever influence it has left on Axul." More critical pundits have once again decried the purported territorial and military expansion of the Perseid Federation into Gamma, though the Organ of Foreign Relations has consistently denied these claims.

Submitting Party: Perseid Federation
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Perseid Federation

Thread Link(s): Thingy
Affected Quadrant(s): Alpha, Gamma, possibly Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Talos Station
Nation(s) Involved: GESO member-states, Perseid Federation, other associate countries

Description: Delegates from the Galactic Economic and Security Organization and from other associate states have gathered at a high-profile summit at Talos Station recently. This has been the first time that GESO member-states have met alongside non-member delegations in years, underlining the significance that the Talos Conference will play in the political arena of the galaxy.

The two main topics at the conference are the establishment of a multilateral gate network connecting states throughout the galaxy and the negotiation of an arms treaty that will regulate the use of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs), although other subjects such as the Von Neumann cluster plaguing the Delta Quadrant and the closing scenes of the Great Displacement may be broached on.

The proposed gate network will link a great number of civilizations dotting the Gamma and Delta Quadrants, as well as with established powers in Alpha such as the Perseid Federation. One such route, nicknamed Shepherd's Highway, may extend from either the Axul Route or the Deuterium Highway through coreward Gamma and end at Shepherd's Spur, a minor arm of the galaxy in the Delta Quadrant. Such an infrastructure project will involve trillions of Credits in capital.

The arms treaty will consist mainly of a resolution by the participating signatories to regulate and reduce the number of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) in each of their respective stockpiles. Of greatest importance would be the dramatic reduction of Von Neumann devices, militarized Dyson spheres, and planetkillers—weapons that GESO has been dealing with recently against extant threats.

Potential Greater Impact(s):If successful, the Talos Conference will represent a new direction that GESO is taking in its approach to galactic politics. This new direction has seen relations with certain civilizations improve and partnerships strengthen, as well as new members joining their ranks. It is expected that this recent trend of expansion will continue in the future.

The gate network could potentially link previously isolated GESO member-states and third-party signatories to the ever-expanding network of commercial infrastructure currently being built all across the galaxy, thus providing access to previously untapped resources and capital, making provisions of foreign investment among countries, and increase overall wealth. The Perseid Federation in particular may benefit greatly from the influx of commercial traffic from GESO nations into the Sivulon Trade Network, a welcome development in the post-PersExit era (see below).

If the arms treaty pushes through, it would establish a multinational effort within GESO and in other signatories to reduce WMD stockpiles. Many have praised this proposal, as it would reduce the scale and intensity of wars between states as well as minimize civilian casualties and prevent further destruction of celestial bodies. Others are more skeptical, believing that this will just be a bid at interfering with national sovereignty, particularly the right of nations to defend themselves.

What is perhaps most surprising is the Perseid Federation's attendance at the Talos Conference—something that has contradicted the expectations of many political analysts. Even though the PersExit had occurred a short time ago, tensions remain high between the Omospondia and GESO. Many have welcomed this as a sign that the two sides remain amicable with each other.

The newly-elected President of the United Terran Alliance, Malcolm Shore, will be tested at the conference for the first time as a head of state. His spokespeople have constantly reminded that "there shouldn't be any major qualms about Shore's performance, for it is well-known that he has played a vital role for the UTA in interstellar politics." Many political analysts have predicted that he will be attempting to play a leadership role in the Talos Conference's dealings in order to press forth the interests of the Terran government and legitimize his administration in the eyes of the Terran electorate.
