Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Nyte
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Interstellar Empire of Nyte

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma/Delta... Possibly Alpha as well
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Largely focused on the Gamma Quadrant but otherwise no specific location(s), One unpopulated system within the Interstellar Empire itself.
Nation(s) Involved: The Interstellar Empire of Nyte, The United Terran Alliance, other Gamman operators...

Description: Its been a busy few weeks with the Empire as news of an arrangement between the Empire and the UTA have leaked to several reporting agencies. While the exact details remain unknown, information points to an as of yet unknown number of UTA military vessels armed with an amount of strategic weapons; the number of which is not being released to the public, being stationed within the Empire in one of its unpopulated systems. As new travel restrictions have not been declared for any of the Empire's systems, speculation by several of the Empire's news agencies puts the likely location as the Icarus system, which has been off limits for travel since the Destruction of the Empire's colony there via biological weapons over a century ago... Whether this is the case however remains unknown...

Also in the news within the Empire, the repeated sniping by, and claims of, foreign agencies and persons of supposed repute as to the Interstellar Empire possibly purposely arming pirates and raiders who have been posing in the guise of refugees has finally prompted a statement from the military. Earlier in the week, Fleet Admiral Artemis Black explained in a press conference that the Empire was indeed aware of the situation, and that there were indeed less than honest operators within these refugees that were attempting to take advantage of the situation. Many of these pirates/raiders were knowingly allowed to take advantage of the situation as the Empire has been able to track there movements and actions at all times through the ships and equipment given. Using this information, Admiral Black's fleet has, almost since the very beginning of the Empire's involvement in the refugee crisis, been using this information to track down several dozen(s) of different pirate groups, killing the majority in open, spaceborne combat, and capturing alive, most of those using the Empire's ships via an apparently hidden shutdown command that disabled their ill gotten vessels so that they could face trial at a later date. It has since been leaked that several thousand pirates were indeed tried for there crimes via a military tribunal, and after determining that they were indeed guilty of the crimes for which they were accused of, were summarily executed. Admiral Black ended her conference with a straightforward message directed to those agencies outside the Empire that have been reporting matters:

"The judgement of these individuals of the Empire or its actions matters little to us. However, perhaps now that they know better the extent of our actions, they can move on to reporting the truth of the matter instead of speculating or making unfounded claims against the Empire and our efforts to not only aid refugees, but also giving back to them something that most of them currently lack; by which I mean a sense of security, safety, and self respect; something that for many of these people has been lost for a very long time. Not only have our efforts proven to aid many refugee groups, they have allowed them the ability to protect themselves from many of those who would take advantage of their situation for their own gains, and as a beneficial side effect for the Interstellar Empire, it has allowed us to clear out large numbers of pirates, brigands, privateers, and slavers alike... It has been, from the beginning, a mutually beneficial arrangement, and as such, it is guaranteed that it will continue for the forseeable future."

Also from the military has come a further increase in production and mobilization, and reports over the last few weeks continue to come in of sightings of military vessels; singly and in groups being reported in an ever widening volume of space in both the Gamma and Delta quadrants as it seems that the Empire has moved to aggressively 'show the flag' as it were as a show of force to those in these quadrants who seek further destabilization, and also, as a potential warning to those who have used the current situation to build up their forces and make other, aggressive movements within what the Empire considers to be its own backyard...

Potential Greater Impact(s): The threat of strategic weapons carried by an unspecified number of ships being stationed along the Gamma/Delta border is likely to increase tension in these two quadrants; especially among those who are looking to take advantage of the current state of the galaxy. Added to that, the much more aggressive stance of the Empire is most certainly a warning to powers within both Gamma and Delta that their continued hostility, aggression, and expansion which has only served to worsen the refugee situation will be met with force, and as for many, the exact capabilities of the Interstellar Empire's military forces remains unknown which should lead to a bit more caution among wiser military forces/commanders in these areas, especially with the further, concurrent increase in the Empire's military production.

As to the refugee situation, the defeat of a large number of piratical forces in both the Gamma and Delta quadrants will make these areas safer for refugees, and the continuing of arming these peoples for their own defense should prove to be a boost to their confidence in their admittedly poor situation, and will potentially make for a safer journey for these people as they travel the galaxy to locations that have been set up where they may rebuild their lives in relative safety.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Free State Republic
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Federal Republic of Free States

Affected Quadrant(s):Gamma-Alpha
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Citic System, Republican Space. Lanthe Trade Route; just inside the Gamma Quadrant.
Nation(s) Involved: Free State Republic, United Star Empire of Valinon

Description: The Federal Government of the Republic has been trying to rectify their earlier mistake of concentrating the inflowing refugee masses into a single system. The authorities have labeled the mistake a slight clerical oversight in the selection process of a suitable system. Unnamed sources from the Government paint a different picture however, telling a tale of gross negligence in officials choosing a system for immigrant settlement. That could barely sustain its current population with local resources, not to mention a large influx of millions of refugees. Government officials have rebuffed this story as ludicrous, re-iterating it as a simple clerical error that did not get found out in time. To help set right the deteriorating situation on the Planet Citic, as well as the entire system as a whole, the Republican Authorities had started a lottery program for travel visas out of the system to other population centers throughout the Republic. Yet, this lottery system has been beset with problems from the start. The initial and subsequent issuing of the visa’s had been limited in number, there were simply not enough issued in the first two rounds to have any immediate impact on the current population level. Millions of refugees as well as millions of citizens are still stuck in a worsening situation with no means of immediate egress or relief. Local and regional authorities have been completely overwhelmed in the response to the civil unrest currently besieging the planet. The Federal Oversight Group has received requests from the Regional Government to release Republican Military Units for suppression actions on the surface of Citic.

The other speed bump to the visa program was a bit unexpected by Federal Officials. A few Regional Governors have blocked access to their domains to the lottery system via executive orders, essentially blocking several destinations of the issued travel-visas. Fears of seeing their own regions beset with civil unrest similar to what has befallen the Citic Region, has caused them to instate the travel ban to their systems from Citic. As of yesterday, the Office of the Federal Attorney General has filed suit against the executive orders in the Federal Court system. The position of the Republican Authorities is that the Regional Governors have no authority to restrict the ability of movement in or out of their domains without explicit Federal consent. The Regional Governors are currently taking the stance that by installing this travel ban they are well within their rights to keep the peace within their own regions and do not need consent of the Federal Government to do so. Litigation is currently ongoing with motions being filed in several regional and federal courts, and at this point, the legal community is not expecting a quick end to the proceedings.

With the arrest of a known terrorist and extremist, Cornelio Morevedra by the combined EXROA-COM and Verge Security forces of the Star Empire of Valinon, a request of extradition of Mr. Morevedra has been submitted to the Star Empire of Valinon from The Free State Republic through an intermediary nation The United Systems of Usidia. The Star Empire of Valinon has granted the request of conditional extradition, and the hand-off of the prisoner will take place at an undisclosed location somewhere on the Lanthe Route within the Gamma Quadrant. A Federal Marshal detachment from the Republic has been dispatched to retrieve the prisoner and bring him back to Republican Territory to face several federal and regional charges regarding his terrorist activities on Citic. Unfortunately during the handoff at the once thought secret location on the Lanthe route, tragedy struck. A decently sized hostile force of unknown origin had attacked both the FSR and SEV forces participating in the prisoner handoff. Survivors from the attack are few, but the result is the same, Cornelio Morevedra has escaped from custody and his current whereabouts are unknown. At the moment it is unknown how the meeting location was compromised, but both the Federal Marshal Service and the Department of Intelligence suspect the worst, an internal leak.

Potential Greater Impact(s): “Freedom of Movement” an ideal near and dear to free peoples is currently under siege as a ‘non-explicit’ freedom pending the result of the various legal proceedings pending in the Republican Court System. Some fear that the position the Regional Governors have taken will result in a slow erosion of other freedoms and liberties currently enjoyed by Republican Citizens. Other’s fear that the non-regulation of movement between star systems and population centers will allow for the dissemination of dangerous ideas as well as dangerous peoples, and that they must be contained at all costs to further preserve the integrity of the Republic. It is unknown currently, how this legal battle will play out, and if the Free State Republic will walk back several liberties and freedoms in the name of security.

The further destabilization of the Citic Colonial system has given birth to the fear that the system itself will soon become a breeding ground and haven of extremism if Republican Authorities cannot bring back the rule of law and order. Given Citic’s position “near” major trade routes to the Liu Xiu system as well as to other star states in the Alpha Quadrant, it is assumed if the decline continues enough, these trade lanes will be subject to an increase in terrorist activity. Republican authorities are preparing to begin suppression operations on the surface of Citic, to augment regional and local forces trying to keep the peace on the planet. Before tragic events spiral out of the scope of the Citic System and bleed over into adjacent trade lanes.

With the tragic attack during the prisoner hand-off, a highly dangerous individual has escaped custody and presumably will fold back into the criminal world. It is currently unknown where he is headed, or what group participated in the attack. But, it is feared that he will bring his experience and expertise in explosive creation to deadly effect once again. The Federal Marshal Service has begun an internal investigation into how the meeting location was compromised. The Department of Intelligence has begun their own separate investigation as well. It is unknown how the Star Empire of Valinon will respond to this tragic event, but the Federal Government is preparing itself for the worst outcome.

OOC: There are three main sections to this submission. The first two sections obviously are to be constructed as standard “News originating from the FSR. But, the final section of this submission I would like to be interjected as a BREAKING NEWS update from whatever news organization is doing the reporting on “happenings in the Republic”. A sort of, “details are scarce but our sources are reporting this has just occurred” kinda thing. If the writer of the SotG entry would like to contact me for further clarification on any of the sections or other details, I am always accessible either through TG or on IRC.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Perseid Federation
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Perseid Federation

Affected Quadrant(s): Alpha, Beta, Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Sivulon Trade Network, the coreward regions of Alpha
Nation(s) Involved: Perseid Federation, coreward star-states

Description: Thanks to a combination of trade deals by the Perseid Federation with star-states located in the coreward regions of the Milky Way, along with a new wave of foreign investment from outside nations, the Galaxy may see a major expansion of the Sivulon Trade Network to the galactic core, according to news correspondents attending an international business insider conference at Maruportas, located in the KP 9115 System. Companies and conglomerates, as well as leaders in a wide array of industries, have welcomed the announcement with open arms.

The proposed addition to the network will begin at the Icosakhilos Confluence, where the Sivulon Trade Network branches off from the Solarian Trade Corridor. Going in the opposite direction as the STN, it will then curve trailwards* in an arc that will intersect with the Alpha-Beta Periphery at the Sagittarius and Norma Arms, ending in the coreward regions of Alpha by linking with existing interstellar trade lanes. Many analysts say this will give greater access to markets located there, as well as to the resources of the Alpha coreward regions that are otherwise scarce in other parts of the Quadrant.

Hypatos Savvaides, official spokesman of Archon Atalante Katsiavria of Xenia, has stated that the Perseid government will support them in their endeavor, and is willing to provide security and freedom of astrogation for freighters and other civilian vessels.

Potential Greater Impact(s): Observers from almost every possible angle, especially economic and political analysts, have given varying commentary on the Sivulon Trade Network's inclusion of the galactic core to this galactic Silk Road of sorts. Many have outlined the advantages and disadvantages that it may bring to not only business across the Galaxy, but also to the Perseid Federation and its partners in the Network.

Optimistic analysts believe that this will give states along the Sivulon Trade Network, particularly the Perseid Federation, access to the rich resources of the coreward regions—some of which are otherwise scarce in other parts of the Alpha Quadrant. This may prove to be advantageous to coreward star-states, especially if merchants on the Sivulon Trade Network would give them large amounts of money in exchange for their commodities. This may also open up the galactic core to the wider galactic market more, due to the demand for unique commodities and luxury items from those regions increasing. This ties in with another recent announcement that it is conducting business with the Sacral Empire, an interstellar star-state predicted to be the largest beneficiaries of this new route due to the revenue it would receive for its refined fusion fuels, a major resource that may perhaps satisfy the demand the Omospondia has for it.

A rise in interstellar traffic in the coreward regions may also be expected within the next few years as more and more freighter vessels may use this route to bypass existing trade lanes, which have been affected greatly by the Great Displacement. The potential for increased revenue from these merchant ships would be greater, which would mean even more money flowing into the economies of the Sivulon Trade Network. Whether that may be a net advantage or disadvantage for the Network remains to be seen.

However, there have been more pessimist comments as well. The most brought-up reason against the Sivulon Trade Network's expansion trailward would be the burden it would place on the Astronautikon, the Perseid Federation's spatial navy. Many fear that the Omospondia may be projecting its military might too thin, despite the recent effort the Astronautikon took to build up their military capabilities. They also believe that it would make the challenge of defending civilian traffic against pirates and brigands more difficult, as fleets would be reassigned from the Sivulon Network's traditional trade routes. On the other side of the coin, people speculate that this expansion would give the Perseid military an excuse to project its power more in Alpha.

Refugees might also use the new routes to travel to star-states in Alpha and Beta to bypass the Lanthe Route, known for its recent restrictions intended to prevent piracy from spilling over into this interstellar highway. This may place an increased burden on said star-states in the Network, and may possibly lead to another round of passing them to the next nation down the line. Worse still, that hypothetical situation may attract pirates over to the new route, which would be a new place for them to prowl and raid civilian ships. The Perseid Federation Commission on Refugees believes that the Omospondia is capable of supporting a large number of refugees, though that has been brought into question by critics from major international humanitarian institutions due to the poor handling of the Betrican Situation of 1366 XS.

Political pundits inside and outside of the Perseid Federation criticize the Omospondia for expanding its economic, diplomatic, and military influence in foreign star-states through the constant expansion of the Sivulon Trade Network. This they say, is one of the glaring signs that the Omospondia is bidding for great power status in the Galaxy, a trend they say that has been observed for years since it came out of isolation in the 1340s XS. They also speculate that it is building for itself a mercantilist hegemony in Alpha, one made to challenge the economic dominance the Solarian Reaches had over the Quadrant since the Perseid Federation withdrew to isolation. However, many have disagreed, particularly certain public officials in the Organ of Foreign Relations. Even Secretary Taxiarchai Milonos has commented on the subject. "It would be out-of-character at best and ridiculous at worst for the Perseid Federation to establish a political and military hegemony over the nations along the Sivulon Trade Network," he says, "much more so for the entire Alpha Quadrant. As proven by history, such adventurist actions were often met with suspicion and mistrust from other nations, and the Omospondia does not wish to add enemies."

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Ministry for Foreign Affairs, United Star Empire of Valinon
Nation Name of Submitting Party: United Star Empire of Valinon

Affected Quadrant(s):Gamma-Alpha
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Citic System, Republican Space. Lanthe Trade Route; just inside the Gamma Quadrant.
Nation(s) Involved: Free State Republic, United Star Empire of Valinon

Description: Sir Friedrich von Gentz (KCTS), First Minister for Foreign Affairs, issued a statement in response to the recent incident involving security forces of the Free State Republic and the Office of Verge Affairs (OVA).

On 19 May, Proximan Local Calendar, the Ministry for Imperial Affairs discussed the conditional extradition submitted by the government of the Free State Republic to the imperial embassy to the United Systems of Usidia. The Republic’s government only requested extradition of Cornelio Morevedra, a known extremist and terrorist, recently detained by the Imperial Armed Forces as part of on-going security operations along the Lanthe. The Ministry requested the IAF withdrawal pending charges from the admiralty courts and transfer Morevedra to civil custody pending possible extradition to a friendly foreign state.

Roselyne Dard-Maran, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to Usidia, supported the measure after consulting with Usidian authorities and in her new role as Ambassador-at-Large to the member states of League of Organised Territories and United Systems (LOTUS) member. The Prime Minister and Affairs Ministers agreed to grant the request and directed the Office of Verge Affairs to coordinate the operation with the Free Star Republic. Morevedra was transferred from a military detention facility to Verge Security after being placed in stasis.

After brief negotiation, Ambassador Dard-Maran and the Free State Republic’s ambassador to Usidia agreed on a location for Verge Security to surrender the prisoner to the Republic’s marshals. The operational duties of the transfer were assigned to Palgrave System Security, a private contractor with Verge Security, with oversight being provided by an Imperial Verge Police officer and squad. Both the Verge Security and Republic forces were attacked by an unidentified hostile force. This unknown force deployed in sufficient numbers to make it impossible for the Verge Security presence to engage with an expectation to prevent the prisoner’s escape. The IVP officer assigned to the transfer operation immediately alerted local Verge Security and EXRAO-COM assets. Unfortunately, no reinforcements could be deployed in time to prevent the attack. The HMS Space Oddity, a Verge Security cruiser, arrived in the scene to assist survivors several hours later.

At this time, EXROA-COM and Verge Security believe this attack was spearheaded by members in one or more extremist organization Morevedra coordinated with before his capture. Both services are coordinating with External State Security and Lanthine authorities to see that the prisoner is recaptured and brought to justice. An investigation into the transfer operation by the Office of Verge Affairs internal affairs division is also pending.

While it remains the primary intention of the Government pursue conditional extradition, the Department of Justice was directed to commence criminal proceedings against Morevedra. This will result in a trial in absentia with prosecutors pursuing capital punishment under the terms of Unified Terrorism and Piracy Act of 1603. These charges enabled the Government add Morevedra to the Contracted Fugitive and Criminal Capture Database (CFCCD) with special terms as of this morning. A bounty of ℛℳ 250,000 for Morevedra’s capture or identifiable physical remains is being funded by the Kriegsmarine and the Office of Verge Affairs. Further details about the criminal proceedings, investigation, et cetera, will be reported as needed by the respective agencies and offices responsible.

The Foreign Ministry will coordinate with the government of the Free State Republic. My staff is coordinate the establishment of a special diplomatic mission to establish a stronger network of communications with the Republic’s government in the coming months. The Government supports the Republic’s in its efforts to prevent additional violence against civilians and is willing to transition to more direct support if an acceptable framework can be reached with our colleagues in the federal government. I will personally direct initial negotiations to form a comprehensive approach to tackling this crisis and border security concerns near the Lanthe with the Republic until the mission staff are assembled and dispatched. These negotiations will centre, initially, on possible aid to the Free Star Republic’s security initiatives, relevant intelligence sharing, and other possible bi- or multi-lateral arrangements capable of preserving stability.

We need to provide strong support to the Government of the Free State Republic as a means for helping a new partner in preventing the spread of extremism and violence too frequently plaguing the local spatial volumes. We also need to reach out to our neighbours as a way of building our own security by shutting down the illegal arms trade, the exploitation of refugees, and the resurgence of sentient trafficking in various forms throughout the Milky Way.

Potential Greater Impact(s): Valinor authorities continue to offer numerous statements assuring the international community that new navigation restrictions along the Lanthe are aimed at moving refugees and other vulnerable populations away from areas of instability where instances of violence are rising. They note that the policy denying refugees transit permission to Liu Xiu is almost unique in the character of the Lanthine administration, and is a small part of a policy designed to build more stability communities of refuge for the duration of the current emergency.

The decision to extradite Mr. Morevedra was seen as both part of this strategy, reflecting the Valinor confidence that another nation could handle the proceedings, and a way for building additional bonds with the growing LOTUS community. While confident in the abilities of EXROA-COM, OVA, and the imperial security services to maintain the Lanthe and much of the Lee, the Valinor are continuing to look for partners that can create larger volumes of stable space along the expansive Lee as domestic concerns continue to mount for worsening conditions in the Beta Quadrant.

The decision to add Morevedra to the extensive bounty system that permeates space beyond the Raumreich is evidence that Valinon may extradite the terrorist if he is captured. But the terms of the bounty make it clear that Alpha Centauri would be as content providing the Republic with evidence of a corpse while seeing if stronger security relations are feasible.

Due to a variety of unforeseen circumstances involving several of the SotG Editors this month, in addition to the upcoming major holiday (in the United States; Independence Day, July 4th), the June 30th publication date will be post-poned until July 10th, following said holiday.

We appreciate our readers' patience during this time.

In light of discussions with the SotG Editors, combined with the nature of summer (both in the real world and in Future Tech), it has been decided that, to the exclusion of the Edition posted on July 10th, July will not have its own SotG Edition published. With over a year of working, it has been decided that the SotG Editors essentially warrant their own summer vacation - time to recharge, relax, and enjoy themselves.

Understand this is not likely to become an annual thing, but as the SotG Editors are all volunteers, sometimes vacations like this are simply for the best. This means, however, that all submissions which are not slated for the July 10th update will be slated for the August update.

Further, we would once again like to thank our readers for their submissions, suggestions, thoughts, and involvement. Without you, the fact that we have an instance where we've been working for over a year and need a time of reflection and relaxation wouldn't even have occurred. We are all grateful and honored that so many players have been enjoying and involving themselves with this project and look forward continue such.

...This also means the August update may quite lengthy, which is good! :D

Once again, thank you all and we look forward to seeing both the July 10th update (for June) and the August one after it!

Reminder...

The State of the Galaxy is open again following a proverbial "summer break." That means we're open for new submissions from the stars for the August 30th update! The Board of Editors look forward to what has been happening within the Galaxy during this time and look forward to continued participation on the part of our readers and the community!

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Various Gamma quadrant authorities and media networks.
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The United Clans of Khomorragh

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma Quadrant.
Precise Locations (If Applicable): N/A
Nation(s) Involved: United Clans of Khomorragh, various pirate/marauder gangs/syndicates.

Description: Since the quite cruel attack on the 'Grace' refugee ship and the response by multiple local quadrant powers and other local powers in the Gamma Quadrant that the pirate activity was slowing down and becoming less frequent with raids and attacks then before. Although it would seem that much of the quadrant had judged this silence as victory over the pirate menace but this would not be true. In the shadows, the same group who carried out the brutal assault on the 'Grace' was now organizing it's own forces that it would use to impose it's will and create a far better organized pirate force in the Gamma Quadrant. Through lucrative deals and meetings with numerous known and unknown pirate gangs and marauder groups in the quadrant and possibly beyond. Although authorities have caught on and led to the arrests of scores of low end pirate soldiers who were charged with multiple counts of arms trafficking and piracy. It has yet to be seen what this new minor pirate force in the quadrant will be capable of and or decide what it wish to pursue in the galaxy.
Potential Greater Impact(s): With that was believed to be a critical victory in anti-piracy efforts in the troubled Gamma Quadrant. It is becoming more and more apparent that pirate activity in the quadrant has become more organized and less sporadic. Future attacks and or raids could most likely be better planned and pirates ending up being better equipped with more modern weaponry to better fiend off capture by quadrant authorities in Gamma and beyond. Meaning that pirate activity would now begin to slowly but surely begin to rise again although now far more prepared then activity prevalent in the past. Local quadrant authorities and powers would most likely increase further security presence and measures in the wake of these findings.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Golden League/Uulchi World School
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Senkaku

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma
Precise Locations (If Applicable): Free City of Pretiosa, planet of Pallasia, Abbas System
Nation(s) Involved: Golden League, Uulchi World School

Description:
The long-running Red Turban Rebellion, which began on the planet of Pallasia in the Abbas System, a member of the Golden League formerly under the dominion of the Free City of Pretiosa, has been decisively crushed by a Pacification Fleet under the command of Ispahsalar Sajida Delacroix, organized by the Golden League and the World School. Six years ago, the Red Turban Rebellion began in the outlying provinces of the planet of Pallasia, and within a year overran Pretiosa, defeating Golden League forces and forcing remaining loyalist units to conduct a brutal guerrilla campaign on the surface and in the outer system with little aid from the rest of the League. Lack of interest from the rest of the League led to only cursory attempts to retake the city, including last year's failed 948 Expedition. However, lobbying from the World School and prominent Pretiosan refugees elsewhere in the League finally resulted in a concerted effort to retake the city. Pretiosa had previously suffered serious damage in the storming by the rebels six years ago, and while the city remains under military lockdown, reporting, including images and videos, indicate it has been all but leveled by the League's forces in the orbital and aerial bombardment that preceded landings and in subsequent urban fighting. The Red Turban movement's space forces have been nearly entirely wiped out, as have the best units of the Red Turban endoatmospheric forces, and the remaining rebels in the outlying provinces are expected to be swiftly wiped out by the Pacification Fleet, which has declared martial law across Pallasia and sentenced all current or former members of Red Turban cells to death.
Potential Greater Impact(s):
The reconquest of Pretiosa ends an embarrassing and dangerous situation for the League in which working-class commoners had proved able of defeating League forces and occupying one of the Golden League's foremost and most ancient cities for several years, defeating a number of attempts to retake the city that essentially assumed that these rebels were simply unusually numerous pirates or aggressive labor activists.
It may also offer an opportunity for many of the planet's displaced residents to return to their homes, as the League has indicated it will help sponsor extensive reconstruction on the planet (which as previously noted has suffered significantly between warfare and major orbital bombardment).
On the flipside, it has already caused thousands to flee Pallasia for fear of retribution from League forces (including extrajudicial killings) or collateral damage from orbital bombardment, airstrikes, and artillery. Some fear the ferocious fighting and suppression of the Red Turbans' organized military capabilities will lead to guerrilla warfare and terrorism, as was seen with the loyalist campaign against them, but to a far greater extent, and possibly even spreading to other system in the Golden League and the galaxy at large.
The destruction of so many ships and so much infrastructure promises excellent business opportunities for private sector construction firms, shipyards, and defense contractors.
It also opens a new and uncertain chapter in the political future for Pretiosa, which had been one of the Golden League's most powerful members prior to the rebellion. The capture of the city also promises to strengthen the prestige of the members who contributed forces (Hanjin, Carcosa, Tian, and Taihan), and help ensure that the influence of the World School and its viceroys remain strong, as they were one of the prime advocates of the campaign.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Intersteller Terra
Nation Name of Submitting Party: United Star Commonwealth

Affected Quadrant(s): Beta
Precise Locations (If Applicable):
Nation(s) Involved: The Great Trade Republic, Hadevail

Description: The United Stars Commonwealth signs several lucrative trade deals in order to strengthen its ties with powers in Beta. Sources within the Authority of Foreign Affairs Foreign Trade office within the United Stars Commonwealth have released documents for public viewing pertaining to its envoys recent dealings with The Great Trade Republic and Hadevail. The United Stars Commonwealth has been working recently to strengthen its ties with other nations within the Beta quadrant of the Milky way galaxy. Part of this improving of relations has included setting up deals that allow tourists between the USC and its new found trade partners to expedite visa's making it easier to move between the different star states and encouraging traffic to flow through the way stations the USC has been building under the Nassau Accords.

Along with making it easier for civilian traffic to move between the star States the USC has signed several trade deals encouraging the trade of raw materials and consumer food products and goods, One of the major agreements the Office of Foreign Trade's representative was keen to point out was that the new deals allowed the USC to export Antimatter energy sources which it is hoped will expand the market and allow further growth in what was slowly becoming a stagnating market within the USC. The new deals also stipulate the obligation of all parties involved to ensure the safety of all civilian traffic between the USC and its new trade partners. Many have commented on this stating that it would help to stabilise the region in the wake of growing fear of Pirates and brigands raiding civilian shipping in the Beta Quadrant. Some in the Commonwealth navy have voiced concerns over how stretched it would leave the Commonwealth navy effectively making them responsive for policing a large chunk of the Beta Quadrant.

Potential Greater Impact(s): The new trade arrangements could lead to further growth of the involved nations economies leading to greater stabilisation of the Greater Betan economy. However the new obligations agree'd to by the United Stars Commonwealth means that it could find itself very quickly Stretched thin across many of its already existing security obligations.

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Far'Ha, Secretary-General of GESO
Nation Name of Submitting Party: Raw'Hein

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma, Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): G/D quadrant border.
Nation(s) Involved: GESO members; more generally the refugees fleeing Gamma (see Gata'ja expansion)

Description: Following on from the efforts of GESO as a whole to bring the Gamma/Delta border under control (see previous submission), a central source of the raids has been identified. GESO escorts across the violent and unstable region of space have helped ease traffic, amid fears that a localised depression may form from the falling stock prices of various businesses dependant on the trade routes across the border. Intelligence gained from captured fighters has pointed to an organised group, dubbed simply the Displaced Coalition, that has organised regular shipping raids on both commercial and humanitarian efforts. The Coalition appears to have formed from disparate nations and militaries leaving the Gamma quadrant in light of the Gata'ja expansion, who are now hiding out in deep space and conducting regular strikes on shipping lanes.

Secretary-General Far'Ha was firm in a press conference earlier today, that the Coalition constituted a threat to GESO's responsibilities: "For are we not a band of nations, ourselves? One that arose in a spirit of cooperation against pirates and against raiders? We are here to protect our economy and what is an economy without trade? We are here to promote security, and what is security, if there are those that can strike at us without retaliation? Madam Silver is even now working on a plan to drive this coalition, that threatens everything GESO stands for, out of our trade routes and out of our lives!"

The Financial sector reports rising stock prices after the proclamation, as investor confidence in trans-border commerce was restored following the promise of action.

Potential Greater Impact(s): Aggressive GESO military strikes into the Gamma/Delta border, chasing raiders to local bases in an attempt to find their military command; increased confidence safe in G/D traffic.

[OOC note: This is an intentionally biased report, considering its source. I intend that the coalition simply be a group of governments trying to survive after losing their worlds (think the Quarian Migrant Fleet), and resorting to raids; they won't submit to the refugee process for fear of being broken up and losing their identity. Complex morality makes better drama, no?]

Tension Report Application

Submitting Party: Nyte
Nation Name of Submitting Party: The Interstellar Empire of Nyte

Affected Quadrant(s): Gamma and Delta
Precise Locations (If Applicable): The Interstellar Empire, GESO's Talos Station, Others?
Nation(s) Involved: The Interstellar Empire of Nyte

Description: Amidst all of the reports of refugee relief efforts, military build-ups, and rampant pirate activity, life still goes on, and one of the Empire's most popular musical idols is set to kick off her newest, and biggest tour yet. Indeed, she's already done so with a bang (See the following news report for details)... While several concerts on this tour are aimed at providing a taste of home for the Empire's armed forces, the majority - including the dozen shows that are being put on outside the Empire itself seem to have a few wider reaching goals in showing the Empire's neighbors a side of the Empire that does not involve military posturing or our prowess at hunting down pirates and slavers.

Potential Greater Impact(s):While at first sight it might not seem all that important, this is actually a fairly large step for the still largely isolationist and somewhat xenophobic Interstellar Empire when it comes to foreign relations as its another step in the Empire's path to opening itself up to interacting with outsiders on a wide (and peaceful) scale. Also of note is the fact that this exposure to the Empire is of a cultural nature; something that has been somewhat lacking what with all the posturing being performed by the Empire's military forces recently. As such, it is expected that this may likely be the first step as it were to decreasing tensions in the area that may have risen over the Empire's recent aggressive military posturing and build-up of forces.

It is expected that the above might go some ways towards lessening tensions between the Empire and her neighbors as well while simultaneously paving the way to a further lessening of the Empire's largely isolationist mindset, and a further opening of the Empire's borders to foreign trade which should, assuming it works out properly, bolster trade in the region as a number of new, and hungry markets slowly open up.

Oddly enough, I'm posting this here more because I'm tired of reading the same old, same old about the refugee crisis, military posturing, and pirate activity. I feel that we need something a bit different in the mix to break up the routine so I've gone down this route instead of posting more about military (anti-pirate) efforts. Well, that and the fact that it is a start in my nation opening up its borders and showing itself in a positive way to foreigners.
