Telros wrote:They watched as the SSD finally transitioned into space and they had to admit, it was a fairly impressive looking ship. Unfortunately, impressive did not equal powerful and they were about to prove that. They watched as the ship finished exiting into realspace and the navigations officer was quickly working on her computer, typing in commands, until there was a beeping sound and the SSD would find itself locked on by the Kronos. Higgins merely sneered and gave one single command: "Fire."
The SSD, when it was still deploying its fighters, suddenly found itself under fire as over sixty MAC's (railguns) and five Couched MAC's (Heavy Railguns) opened fire upon the vessel, firing in barrages as they sent a hail of shells at fractions of .c towards the ship. The SSD, having finished its deployment of its fighters, then began to return fire with its turbolasers. Higgins smirked as she watched the fire, from such a distance, and as they came close to the Kronos, they would watch as they seemed to hit something and then were diverted away or were diffused and became harmless as they hit the shields. At this range, the blasts would being picked off and diverted, allowing the battlecruiser to avoid harm. The crew chuckled viciously as they watched this. The Weapon Deflection Field had been a brilliant design by Dr. Duran and was well used for such an occasion. A warning indicated that the two hundred and ten Khanate fighters were deployed and heading for them, as well as the enemy ship began to accelerate.
Higgins leaned forward. "Let them come to us; have the FTL drive begin charging once more in case we need it. Continue firing upon it and have three hundred of the drones go engage them. The rest should move into defense formation Epsilon around the ship. Just hammer them from a distance and let the fighters duke it out; they'll soon see why machine wins out in the evolution of the fighter over human pilots." The orders were sent and five hundred of the fighters moved and split into two groups, one taking a position to the ship's left, the other to it's right. The last three hundred, shot towards the arriving 210 Khanate fighters, and moved into a loose formation before locking on and loosing a wave of six hundred missiles, two per drone. Then they activated their recording and ECM/ECCM devices, a move mimicked by the drones by the Kronus, which made it difficult for the SSD and its fighters to lock on and see what they were fighting. This raid would be short-lived, Higgins was going to see to that herself.

Telros wrote:The drones kept track of the fighters as they did their best to avoid the wave of missiles they had launched at them and scattered into various directions. The drones received orders from the Kronos and they broke off into packs to attack the remaining fighters. A series of explosions indicated that thirty fighters had been wiped out by the missile barrage and Higgins nodded. It was a good start to the battling, already close to 1/4 of the enemy force was destroyed and this was just from the beginning engagement. The enemy fighters whipped around and moved to engage the drones, only to find the drones right on top of them, kinetic cannons blazing. As the Hyperborians engaged the drones, they would soon find that they had another problem in dealing with them. The drones were automated fighting machines, given orders from their home base, this being the Kronos in this case. They did not have the design limitations that faced fighters with organic pilots concerning G-forces, and having to include life support in the drones, thus they reduced it bulk. This made the drones very slim and quick, and able to pull off maneuvers that other, manned, fighters just could not keep up with and this is just what the Hyperborians experienced.
The drones dodged, weaved, and flipped in the battle space as if they had been born from space and it was their living habitat. They slipped past the fighters and came around, blasting away and launching missiles from close distances to take out their targets before swiftly moving onto another. They also were able to react to attacks and tactics used with stunning speed, due to their high computing speed of the computers guiding the drone, thus turning an already lopsided battle into an overwhelming one. Even with this, however, the laser fire and attacks of the Hyperborians did end up hitting the drones and overwhelming their limited shielding, taking eighteen drones and turning them into bright fireworks displays.
Higgins sat and watched as the battle continued and the drones began their war of attrition against the Khanate fighters. It wouldn't matter how badly or well the battle went; they had more than enough fighters to bury the small Hyperborian fighter force and still have enough left over to aid in the destruction of the Hyperborian ship. She glanced at the tactical map and noticed that the SSD was making a hard burn at them, probably intending on narrowing the distance in order to nullify the advantage the WD Field granted them. She grinned; a SSD getting into close combat with her Longsword-class Battlecruiser was not a wise move but then the commander of that ship probably didn't have a choice. With the WD Field as it is, long range combat would favor the Kronos. Taking her gaze off the display, she called out to one of her officers. "Tactical, estimated time until enemy ship enters the range of our energy weapons?"
"Ten minutes, ma'am!"
She glanced at her XO and he grinned at her. The Hyperborians were going to be in for a surprise when they came into range of her weapons. They were not going to enjoy what she had to offer. "Tactical, redirect MAC fire to focus on one area of the shield, and start sending staggered barrages of missiles at the same section, so they will hit before the kinetics do. Also, time for FTL drive recharge?"
"Almost done ma'am, just another minute."
"Very well, keep my informed."
The MAC guns and the Couched MAC's redirected their fire to focus on the forward section of the SSD, pounding it with long range kinetic strikes, and this was only compounded when the missile tubes of the ship opened and waves of fifty missiles were sent streaking towards the enemy ship, timed so they would destroy or be destroyed by the MAC salvos. They were a mix of Antimatter-I, Antimatter-II, Armor-Piercing, and Disruptor-Core missiles. AM-I was your typical large explosion of antimatter that basically functioned as a heavy bomb, AM-II was like the Antimater Beam weapons that dissolved any matter it touched and sent out a massive amount of deadly radiation waves, and Disruptor worked by striking its target and then causing a short-lived gravitational distortion that crushed and warped anything in the vicinity, dealing great damage to its target.

Admiral Hunter looked out the windows of the Prince Donald II at the Hyborian fleet, with a steady calm, a feeling obviously not shared with the rest of the bridge crew.
"Well, looks like we've underestimated the enemy- again. Navigator! How long to recalculate the Etherway back to Sol?" Hunter asked.
"Two hours, give or take, sir," the officer responded.
"Bloody hell. Put me on with the fleet,"
"Aye sir," another answered, and Hunter's face was projected onto every screen in the fleet, up in the corner, and his voice came from every speaker.
"Well then gents, it seems that the chaps over in Military Intelligence have underestimated the foe, and I've been told it'll take two hours to re-calculate back to Titan. As such, we're going to have to hold out for the duration, and hopefully give the Huns a what-for in the process. However, I just sent a communique back to the Admiralty, and they're going to try and convince the other Coalition members to join us here. If that falls through, we'll be committing to the attack straightaway. As things stand, we'll be having to get into combat formation," And they did, with each squadron forming into a gun line, and preparing to maneuver against the Hyborian fleet. The Ark Royal disgorged her Mosquito fighter drones, who made their way up to the trio of fifth-rates, who were patrolling right at the edge of the gravity well, using their LIDAR to watch the Khanate fleet, watching for movement.
Back on Earth, the Admiralty in Greenwich sent out a communique to the other Coalition members, hoping to salvage this chance to attack Gal-Mali.Bavin wrote:

Telros wrote:The fierce and slowly overwhelming fighter battle continued to rage, as the Telrosian drone fighters fought the Hyperborian TIE's, X-wings, and ARC-170's and the two capital ships moved towards each other, firing all the way. The use of the Force enhanced their abilities enough that the drones started seeing more casualties, resulting in the loss of another twenty-two drone fighters. The assault continued, as the drone's switched tactics and formed into groups of three that went after single fighters, hammering them until they turns into puffs of flame and spreading shards of metal and then moving after another target. They would systematically wipe out single fighters until the enemy force was wiped out. Another wave of missiles was launched at them from the drones before they split into the teams and attacked.
Higgins took a sip of her coffee as the Kronos continued its advance on the Hyperborian SSD. The enemy fire coming in began to overwhelm the WD Field a bit, causing the shields to take some of its first hits in the battle so far. However, they were strong and held well against the attacks. It would take some pounding before the shields would come down. Another volley of MAC's and missiles were sent at the SSD when the navigation officer spoke up. "Ma'am, FTL drive is hot and in the green, awaiting your orders."
She smirked. "Very well, lock in these coordinates and prepare to jump." She sent over coordinates to the officer's console and she entered them in, the computer quickly locking onto the coordinates designated.
"Ready to jump, ma'am!"
Higgins nodded. "Very well. Sound the jump alarm and have all hands brace for jump. On my mark...five....four...three...two...one...MARK!" The Kronos opened a bluish-white tear in space and shot into it, seemingly vanishing from the system. The drones continued to fight, however, signaling that it had not gone far and this was true when a second or so later, it reappeared behind the [b]Rathbart]/b], snugged behind its engines. Higgins grinned viciously as the SSD's engines came into view. "Tacticals, unleash everything we got on them!" The ship unloaded its MAC's and Couched MAC's, its missiles and it added a new twist into the battle. As the shells and the missiles, interspersed to hit the shields in a staggered salvo to ensure no loss in the projectiles due to collision, dark and bright blue energy beams slammed into the shields. These were the Antimatter and Asgard Beam Weapons, powerful energy weapons that could rip apart enemy shielding and hulls with great abandon, and they were used in tandem with the other weapons they had.
Higgins sat back and drank more of her coffee. "Let's see them escape this one."
