Afghan Fortified Positions open fire on the incoming Soyuza with mortars, heavy machineguns, and detonating buried explosive, laying mines, and setting up booby traps. Titoist Guerrillas lay IEDs, grenade-traps, mines, and also set up pits under the ground that collapse when walked into. They lay traps on the corpses of fallen Soyuza and Marxist troops.

Tu-95s carpet bomb government regulars, paving the way for Soyuza forces. The Afghan Army is entirely mechanized, and tasked with taking the cities. They shrug off guerilla attacks with superior armor and firepower.

Tetragz disperse among the population, recruiting communists in the villages to report insurgent activity, and counter traps.

With no doubt that Volkstrad is supporting the enemy, plans for total rehaul of the military in 1961 are sped up.

Government forces dig in and take cover in bunkers, fox-holes, and trenches and hold the line. Panzerschrecks are distributed through the ranks and they are tasked with taking out armor. Mortar fire increases and artillery is set up.

Stasi begin to work on monitoring the populace and eliminate those identified as Tetragz or Sympathizers with the enemy.

Volkstrad begins to overhaul the Afrika Korps to be better prepared for operating on the desert. A weapon based loosely on the Kalashnikov is under development for the use in climates unsuited for the StG-57.

The Sakhandar Rota (Afghanistan Corps) responds with heavy artillery fire and shelling, provided via tanks and mobile guns and mortars. Katyushas are deployed to clear out the countryside, pummeling the Afghans with hundreds of screaming rockets.

Stasi with Panzerschrecks are sent to take out Katyushas and Artillery positions. The Afghan People's Army return fire with their own artillery and mortars. More trenches are set up and massive tunnel networks begin to be dug all over Afghanistan.

Further to the south, the whole region is massively fortified with tunnels, bunkers, fortresses, artillery, mortars, tanks, and other defences. The whole Southern Half of Afghanistan is armed up for conventional war and for a long, long insurgency waged over decades. The populace is further indoctrinated into a Pro-Government mindset and any who are willing are trained in the art of terrorism, guerrilla warfare, bomb-making, and other skills to fight even after the APA is defeated. A few companies of the Afrika Korps are covertly mobilized to be sent to South Afghanistan. They are to bear no insignia on their uniforms or vehicles, and are to bear no marks of rank or decoration. They are held on standby to possibly be deployed.

The Afrika Korps are deployed and fortify the border, several units of Tiger III's waiting in reserve to be sent over. A long string of bunkers, fortresses, and other positions are constructed by what is now being called the South Afghan People's Army, or SAPA, and Afrika Korps Engineers. They cooperate and begin to also draw up plans to create a large barbed-wire fence with guard towers that stretches over the entirety of Afghanistan, stretching from the Iranian Border to the Pakistani Border. Guard Towers will line the whole area and artillery positions, mortars, snipers, and other such things are to be placed along it. For now this remains as a concept, to be implemented after the Soyuza advance is halted.

The USP puts it's economy to good use, hurrying the military reform. The Rota stops at the border, unwilling to attack until new weapons are in service. North Sakhandar erects it's own defenses, mostly staffed by Soyuza while great social changes are undergone. Religious law is abolished, and equal rights laws are passes. Private business is also abolished.

Togeria declares war on the side of....USP. A division of 6,000 representing the Asia-volunteer unit designed to rid all non-Asian influence from Asia is being prepared. Artillery along with modified Type-99s are sent to aid the USP as for now.

Volkstrad begins to shape South Afghanistan in its own images, turning into into an Autocratic State led by a Council of officials headed by an almost dictatorial Chairman. A secular state is established, gender equality is established and civil rights improved. However, political freedoms plummet. Industry forms itself into a Titoist system.

Volkstrad begins to covertly work on attaining power in Iran and Pakistan, working with Stasi operatives being moved from South America who served in North Africa and South Afghanistan to each of these to begin working with Titoist factions in gaining control. This is done more slowly and quieter than in Afghanistan and Kvasno to make it seem to be a side-effect of the actions in Afghanistan rather than a direct Stasi operation.

A formal plan to liberate north Africa is created which once completed will split the region into several different and independent nations under the protection of Badassistanian and its allies. (We need this to go through so this one guy who wants to join in as Libya and Egypt can so dont try to mess it up guys.)
