Units for all other quantities can be mathematically derived from the 7 fundamental units. Some derived units for some quantities have been given official names and symbols.
Unlike the Imperial system of units, which as different unit names for different sizes of unit for a single quantity, the new system uses a series of prefixes, which indicate a shift in the unit size by a power of 10. The prefixes are universal and can be applied to any unit, fundamental or derived. Please note that while the kilogram is the fundamental unit of mass, the gram is the base unit of mass, meaning that prefixes are applied to the gram, such as milligram, megagram, etc, instead of being applied to the kilogram.
This system of units is to be adopted universally through the sciences, industry, and agriculture across Syndikat, and we invite other nations to adopt this sensible, standardized system of units in favour of older, clunkier, less coherent systems. The system is being referred to as Modernized Metric, or MM.
