(CNN) -- During a brief speech at the Confederate National News Center in Dunham-Horlox, the Foreign Affairs Advisor, sir Desmond Franju, has publicly condemned the People's Republic of Cedoria for supporting wars and rebellions in order to spread communism, an act that the federal government of the Western Vale Confederacy considers innacceptable.

"I, after an harduous debate with the other members of the Confederate Upper Council, have officially decided to condemn the People's Republic of Cedoria, a nation known for supporting pro-communist wars, rebellions and armed guerillas in order to spread an outdated, insane, impossible ideology known as communism, which the federal government of the Western Vale Confederacy finds utterly innacceptable. His illegal expansionism and puppeteering must stop at once." said the Foreign Affairs Advisor during his speech at the Confederate National News Center. Other members of the Confederate Upper Council, such as the Commerce & Trade Advisor, Edmond Hiliac, has invited the Supreme Dignitary, Tanen Na'Marash Solo the 1st, and the Confederate National Assembly to impose an embargo on Cedorian goods and issue official warning against the latter. Edmond also invited other nations to condemn Cedoria's actions.

Only sound that was filling the room was loud clicking. In this room dozens of hackers were sitting, all observing screens of their computers as they prepared for their next attack. These men and women were infamous Imperial Cybernetic Operations command; one of most hated units around the world, especially in counties that opposed the Wangs. Their job was routinely breaking their fun through well planed and prepared cyberattacks - the art which they mastered. There were even special schools for hackers where Naval Police (Tokkutai) trained their hackers in the art of cyberwarfare. And everybody must say - they were trained well. This unit located in Tosa was one of top units within this group, even if every "front" had designated cyberwarfare unit, according to Wangish military doctrine. Inside the building however, hackers awaited their commander, who soon entered the room. General Fujino Noriaki was short man, with square face. Former leader of Wangish Cybermafia, was pardoned in exchange for service in Tokkutai. Now he was happy that he could do what he was best at to enemies of Wangdai. His forces were getting ready as he sat down in the chair at the corner of the room and looked with his small eyes at his hackers as they were launching their programs. His team was commonly called "Snake Squad", as reference to certain other hacking group. Pretty much, Snake Squad was a proxy group which never existed, which they created to troll people.

"SITREP" he shouted to one of his officers, who was responsible for coordinating the attacks.

"All units reporting readiness, sir!" the officer replied "Cyberwarfare units in Ishikawa, Kamechiwa and Kosun are also ready!"

"Affirmative!" he shouted "Begin the assault!"

First target was the Cedorian internet. It was attacked by massive APDDoS attack, targeting the key websites, such as these of the government and of other infrastructure. Thousands of hackers were creating millions of fake connections per second, using botnets from all around the world so single firewall won't be able to stop it. It was like a nightmare for the webmasters. Then came wave of attack of HTTP POST DDoS attacks directed at key hosting computers; their computers would download up to 2GB data from headers, using certain mistake in HTML language. Done by hundreds of hackers - both governmental and non-governmental - per second, this will have serious consequences. Then a wave of so called rabbits was unleashed. Rabbit was kind of virus that once the computer was infected was beginning to multiply, finally overloading the computer.

Seconds later Cedorian communist imperialists would be given far worse attack. On them came attack launched by thousands of hackers at once, using method known as PDoS (Permament Denial of Service) attack. This method was replacing their internet servers and other crucial software with fake copies, which simply did not worked, forcing the owners to reinstall whole systems. At the same time new wave of trojan horses was being spread using e-mails, imminently attacking the e-mail boxes of government agencies, attempting to take control over their computers - if they were not destroyed by PDoS attacks, that is. Carried by thousands of hackers at once, this was a chance to successfully damage infrastructure of Cedoria. If everything went right, they would become second Estonia.

Using network of phone calls, basic services in Cedoria were attacked too. Knowing numbers of these agencies, they would hear constant non-ending calls and each time when they will rise the phone, they will hear:

Thousands of paid trolls invaded international and domestic forums, attempting to launch one of biggest propaganda ops in history. Trolls were attacking Communists, showing photos of their crimes and drowning their foras into never ending flood of spam portraying crimes of Cedorians and trollish posts, often attacking the communist leadership. Everywhere when something was hacked such picture appeared:

The suddenness of the cyber-attack caught the top leadership of the Communist Party off-guard. Sudden massive overloads of administrative computers through many government offices occurred. The first attack had varying methods of success, overloading many government computers in offices around Cedoria. Some computers firewall systems managed to bar access to computers, thereby protecting them from the attack, but many are simply shut down.

As is normal procedure in a cyber-attack, the computer systems are quickly taken off the Internet, and shift into self-contained isolation, hoping to protect the system from anymore attacks. The Denial of Service attacks makes many computers unusable, causing temporary administrative chaos. Chairman Vallance Vallen issues his instructions, that new, back-up computers are too be switched on for use so that normal government business could continue, whilst the computers badly affected by the attacks are looked at by technicians who will isolate and eventually eliminate the invasive software. But this will take some time and the attack has caused a lot of damage to the Cedorian computer systems. Most important files and government documents are backed up in Cedoria, whether on paper records, USB's or computers and Ipad's not connected to the Internet. So while most information is not lost, it will take a while too be able to re-copy the backed up information too the computers.

The Rabbit attack is less successful, Cedorian firewall and anti-malware detection softwares manage to pick up the foreign software trying to breach the computer. Once the Rabbit program is identified, built-in safeguards make the Cedorian computers shut off all access, shifting into a self-contained, total isolation mode whilst the counter-measures to eliminate the invasive software are run. A few hours is all it should take.

The Denial

The attacks on Internet message boards were less successful, since the Communist Party imposed a strict censorship regime over what could and could not be viewed by the people on the Internet, the Cedorian people are shielded from the lies and propaganda perpetrated by the enemy in their attempts to demonise Cedoria.

The government also quickly cuts off all non-government and non-essential telephone services in the country for a few hours, informing the citizens via television and radio that an attack has occurred. The message is quickly being found and will be deleted, then allowing normal telephone services to resume.

Whilst the attack has caught Cedoria by surprise, they have managed to avoid a permanent shut-down of the Communist Party's government networks, and important files have been erased to prevent the enemy gaining access to them. Another counter-measure is activated too, where some false files, purportedly written from interactions with ordinary citizens, praise the Communist Party and it's many achievements in the nation. These files are the only ones which the enemy could have gotten. Not only are the important files erased, but they are backed up, although it will take some time, they can be retrieved and re-copied once the malware is fully isolated and destroyed.



The cyber-attack, whilst causing some minor damage, is not as bad as it could have been, due to backed up files, and the use of counter-measures such as strong firewalls and counter-software designed for situations like this. The scale of this attack means that such counter-measures will take at least a day however Cedorian infrastructure is not damaged, and all shall be normal soon with government networks back online and fully functioning. Additional safeguards are also activated in the wake of the first attack, which insulates the Cedorian network against further attacks. The People's News Network reassures people that they have nothing to fear, and the normal business of government is continuing.


Initial reports indicate the cyber-attack may have originated from Wandai, but this has yet to be confirmed, and likely will not be until the original servers are back on line and functional again.

OOC: Fixed it, now have many computers being shut down by the virus, with counter-measures now going to take much longer. However, most files in Cedoria are still backed up, and they will be working to restore the normal business of government with the back-up computers coming online. The message boards thing has very little affect on us, since our citizens can't see them anyway. You can infer other details about the wider effects of this in my post, as I am not an expert and would likely be here forever if I tried to write it all. But power is out in some places, etc. My next post will be the network coming fully back online afterwards, and figuring out who is behind the attack.
