Hm...the way I see shock troopers is that you'll need a lot of firepower, but you still need to be mobile enough to keep up the momentum, and use the shock to the best of your ability.

You are indeed.

Shock troops specialized in penetrating enemy lines and hitting vulnerable enemy positions. They aren't really used in modern times, since most militaries have realized that shock troops were doing nothing that well-trained infantry can't do. So if you're training your normal troops correctly, shock troops can be replaced with light or airborne infantry.

Though it should be noted that historically, stormtroops and shock troops are virtually the same term and the same idea. Stormtroops are just the Germanized term for the troops that would run into enemy lines and cause as much damage as possible.

To be more precise, shock-troops were either never really good at holding ground (due to constantly running out of supplies or requiring replacements), or were a huge logistical drain in order to do what they did.

In short, well trained AND supplied.

This pic, though.

I'm going to hold off till he does something. He'll probably rally up some aircraft/ships/both to bring us to Ahtroupia.

For high-altitude drops? Try a C-130 or something else big. Ospreys are valuable because they're maneuverable, they're VTOL craft, and they can carry troops. We don't need either of the first two, so a plane will suffice.

The US has specific aircraft for this- the MC-130 and the MH-60. I think there's a V-22 version in the works.

Like I said, probably a variant of a C-130. Big, spacious, gets people places, could carry a tank if needed (I think... don't quote me on that), what's not to love?

Let me just offer how I would equip shock troops. You'll need a heavy vest like an IBA, probably with all attachments. So this would include soft neck and crotch armor. Obviously a light helmet would be on the loadout as well.

If you really want hitting power, you'll want 7.62 rounds. There is the SCAR-H 7.62 and the AK-47. The SCAR-H is a more modern, flashy weapon. The AK is a classic. I believe the SCAR is more accurate, though that may not be a perfect estimation. Personally, I would go with the SCAR.

The next weapon you will need is the M249 Machine gun. You don't want a bigger machine gun like the 240B. The M249 is lighter, but its still a machine gun. It will give you the dominance that you need. Machine Guns control lanes and zones. The M249 is also easy to carry ammo for with 200 round pouch-magazines available.

Next, grenades. You'll want your soldiers to carry hand grenades of the smoke, flash and frag variety. Don't need to really specify who has what until postings because those change. The SCAR-H also can be fitted with a FN40GL 40mm grenade launcher attached to the underside of it (check Wikipedia). You'll want a certain number of grenadiers carrying this attachment.

So what makes a shock troop? Firepower and speed. One doesn't necessarily get that from picking one weapon over another. But if you understand how to fight, you can manipulate the battlefield. So I mentioned rifles, machine guns, and grenadiers. That amount you bring to the fight will manipulate the battle field. So here is a sample loadout.

Team Leader - SCAR-H

Rifleman - SCAR-H
Grenadier SCAR-H, FN40GL
Grenadier SCAR-H, FN40GL
Gunner M249 SAW
Gunner M249 SAW

Rifleman SCAR-H
Grenadier SCAR-H
Grenadier SCAR-H, FN40GL
Gunner M249 SAW
Gunner M249 SAW

With the ability to bring that much fire to bear, it lacks all subtlety. That brings a lot of firepower to the battlefield. With the grenadiers carrying the same rifle, they can do the same job as the riflemen. But four grenade launchers and four MGs will allow you to dominate the battlespace. Especially with the SAWs being relatively light. They don't need ammo bearers. Plus your riflemen are shooting large caliber, hard hitting rounds with a system that keeps its zero (stays accurate) better than an AK-47.

Of course, I'm not perfect and neither is the system. That many machine gunners would mean less hands for searches possibly. But you've got an 11 man team there. If you wanted a smaller team, you could bring the Team Leader and leave out the last 5 people.

But the key words are 'violence of action' and 'dominating the battlespace'.
