That won't help. You destroy the the missile, however, ASATs are kinetic kills, so you have no warhead to disable. Your guns just turn one speeding target into a hailstorm of missile chunks speeding towards you at 15,000mph.

Potentially, you could disable the weapon's heat tracking system then try to move the satellite out of the way with stablilizers, but that would be it, and if your satellites are that advanced, then I'll happily trade ASATs for the platform until you either run out of bullets or stabilizer fuel.

I know a welder that did otherwise after an RPG blew the tail off his loach. 40 minute ride on the tilt-a-whirl back to base using the stub-boom as a counterweight to the torque. Managed for 30+ miles. Cosidering he's still got both arms and legs, I'd say he was successful.

And Adrian (fictional Mi-6 pilot) only had to land with his cargo without getting killed, not fly out of the combat-zone.

I've thought about setting up a new op for this "third wave" of new members, but I'm afraid it may get a little to confusing, logistically speaking.

I dunno, if there's enough outcry to have a second side-op for people not currently a part of Legion, then I and/or Van will devise said op.

Ahem, I have a possible solution. I'm not deeply entrenched in Legion, and can pull out if necessary to make this plan work. I currently have a puppet nation named Ahtroupia, which is sitting around gathering dust. Now let's say Atlas has a deal with the Ahtroupia so that Atlas can use Ahtroupian bases for training and mission prep, and the new arrivals (possibly along with the ADF RSC) are there. But while they are the undergoing familiarization training, a coup by the military drives out the friendly government, and a new one hostile to Atlas takes over. This government isn't hostile in such a way to provoke actions from national governments, so it falls on Atlas to find a way to "resolve" the situation.

Just a possible idea.

Draft of the opening post/description for the possible secondary operation.

Early in the morning of October 23, 2017, General Farhad of the Ahtroupian Army led his forces from the western frontier on a march to the Ahtroupian capitol of Baku. His forces quickly overhwlemed the local police and stormed the government district. The democratically elected government was forced to flee, and control was taken by the Revolutionary Party of Ahtroupia. Declaring himself the new president, Farhad began a series a purges, ostensibly to root out the corruption which was rife within the old government, but also to eliminate his political enemies. With the support of the military, and an insurgent organization, the South Ahtroupian People's Army, General Farhad firmly cemented his control of the country, despite brave but futile resistance from weak and scattered rebel groups.

Ahtroupia is rich in hydrocarbon resources, and Farhad is more than willing to use those resources as a bargaining chip. The nation is mountainous with large ridges to the north and south a major valley running from the western frontier to the eastern shore. Much of the small country's electricity comes from a massive hydroelectric dam, holding back a massive reservoir. It is likely Farhad will demolish the dam if he believes he will be defeated, so as to cause as much destruction as possible.

Ahtroupia's democratically elected government had a strong working relationship with Atlas, allowing the organization to use Ahtroupian bases for training and mission preparation. The new military dictatorship views Atlas as a threat to its hold on power and has expressed a strong hostility towards the organization. Unfortunately, the new government has done nothing serious enough for national governments to intervene, giving Farhad a free hand to begin dismantling Atlas facilities in Ahtroupia. At one such facility, a group of operators from several new member nations are conducting familiarization training. At the same time, Sierra Team, of the North Arkanan RSC is using the same base to rest and resupply after a field training operation.


OBJECTIVES
Primary- Defend Atlas facilities to prevent sensitive equipment and information from falling into enemy hands until sensitive equipment and information is properly destroyed or relief arrives

Secondary- "Remove" General Farhad as a factor

Secondary- Secure the hydroelectric dam to prevent (or enable) its destruction

Secondary- Establish unit cohesion and cooperation through "live-fire training"
