I'm probably going to revive alfa-team and send them to the bar as "reinforcements" due to attrition at Necropolis (nearly 70% losses) and waivering faith in continued participation in "the foreign meatgrinder".

Cpt. Joseph F. Rosenthal (big guy with the cigar)
Lt. "Boomer" Mike Thompson (demolitionist)
Jr-Lt. Ernest P. Schwartz (sharpshooter)

Col. Adrian Vancent (Mi-6 pilot)
Lt. Ralph Hayes (Mi-6 door-gunner)

Sadly, Alexi Montoya will not be attending, on account of being "dead".
"I must regret to inform you, that you may have died on this mission, but the afterlife does offer some pretty promising opportunities. Inside that envelope is an opportunity for someone of your skill and caliber, something that only someone like yourself can do properly. By accepting, you get the 10,000 Universal Standard Dollars, this stack of $10,000 Gold Labors up front(he pulled a tightly wrapped roll out of another pocket and tossed it to her), an additional $400,000 USD after completion, a new identity and freedom to go wherever you would like, as long as it is no longer within the Federation of Mokastana. If you accept, we will declare you dead this moment and take you and your equipment to a waiting helicopter where you will begin. If you refuse, well, let's focus on the future shall we?"

However, it does seem as if your friend Alexi did eventually die of a bullet wound she got getting into the helicopter, I don't know how much you remember when you waited for us to get on board, but I am sure you remember seeing Alexi wounded. Right next to the wounded but living body of Ricardo Cortez, your giant bonus check. It is possible the drugs in your system threw your memory off, but I believe that is what happened."

Taking a minute the agent sat up and took a short breath, looking over Zakh's reaction to the information the agent just threw at him.

"I hope you understand what I am saying. It is much easier to correct the records at the beginning than to go back and change them at a later date. Make the easy choice, enjoy some time off."

R.I.P. Alexi, the only Hurti operative that can pronounce "^_^" over a radio, whilst being shot at.

Since they're set at 2 hours after drop, my Mi-6 has enough fuel left for one spectacular gun-run once every asshole clears the hell out of that airspace.

MEGAPOST TIME

Care to elaborate on how your system works? I'm curious.

*cracks knuckles*

Time to get my orbital physics on!

Alright, so, approximately 100 kilometers above the atmosphere is Shyluz's civil space station, known as Khrabrost. It's your generic space station for civilians. At approximately 95 kilometers orbital is Shyluz's military station, which is still mostly classified. It is commonly known as Khrabost Square. It is equipped with several point defense guns of the thirty mm caliber, and is primarily intended for ground support. It is given several types of ordinance pods, the ROMULUS pods are equipped with a ROMULUS class automated sentry, and can be dropped from orbit using disposable ion thrusters (these are real, they have the thrust equivalent of the weight of a single sheet of paper,) it then falls into atmo. Once at one kilometer up, it deploys drouge chutes, and cuts them at 500 meters. It also detaches the heat shield at the 500 meter mark. It then lands using integrated solid rocket boosters. The second kind is a REMUS pod, which deploys much in the same way, but with a REMUS class automated sentry instead of a ROMULUS. The third type is given weaponry instead of a sentry, and is used as a mobile resupply point. The fourth and final pod type is the highly classified TITANICA pod. Which amounts to a standard rod-from-God system, but the heat shield is filled with small explosives, it essentially acts as a armor penetrating area of denial weapon.

Science-y enough, Cong? :D

Also, just call me Shy.

Do you play Kerbal space program? *sigh* I need to read posts|Because I do. And just a few questions and statements. (Not to be rude, its for science.)

1. Why is the military station below the Karman line? Just asking. Damnit!

2. Why would you have an ion engine to deorbit? You could literally just get one of the Soyuz pod retro boosters. and it would work just fine. Cong proves me again.

3. *disagrees with disposable ion engines*

4. If your TITANICA pods have heat shield explosives, I hope they are stable. Don't want the pod itself blowing up from a little landing jolt, do we? And, if you make the TITANICA like a Rods-From-The-Gods thing, you get a lot of tons or even kilotons of explosion from the sheer speed of it.

5. I disagree with the ejecting heat shield thing because it would probably damage something or fall on and crush my troops.

Shut up Steve! I'm not a schizo! YOU ARE!

:lol2:

Ah, okay, yes, KSP has some flaws. Realistically depicting atmospheres is among them.

Dude, that's old. Everyone loves the atmosphere once the new update came out. Especially me when I learned the lessons of not adding heat shields in career with 40+ science at the start of the game.

Rods-from-god don't do that much damage. They're very good at giving a building or an underground bunker a bad day, but there isn't much outward force. It's a penetrating weapon. You'd need to drop dozens to even try to level a city. They work best on a single, non-moving target, not an area-effect.

Though the shockwaves through the ground could provide area effect damage, it's unlikely since most major city buildings are earthquake-proofed and the shockwave wouldn't be enough to topple them.

Also, I agree. Explosives on a rod would be mostly ignored and swallowed up by the initial impact.

For the reason I posted above.

And they're easily taken out. A satellite cannot defend itself usually, and a simple ASAT missile can blow it out of the sky. Satellites have no stealth, so anyone can see where they are. They're pretty out there and vulnerable with current technology.

I've seen a couple passes at fixing that. One person had one or two satellites that were disguised and publicly written as TV satellites until they needed to be used. I keep a network of satellites in orbit and hope people can't see which ones are the 8 kinetic weapons platforms.

As you can see, not much defense for a satellite-based weapon.

Hello, I'm answering a question I wasn't asked! I've played KSP since April of 2013, pre version 0.20. Why back in my day, we didn't have those fancy flags, cupolas, and command seats! (or science, or contracts).

I may have never landed a Kerbal on Duna in those two years. Don't judge me! I play on hard! You don't know my life!

Anyways, when did you start playing? Do you prefer sandbox or career? [Other questions]?

That does block radar, but it doesn't block one of the easiest ways to see a satellite: optically.

Also, ASATs rely on thermal locking, and once an ASAT is launched, there's really no way of avoiding it. Though I'm guessing your shield are to make sure nobody sees it in the first place or looks hard enough for them until the nuke is launched, then it doesn't matter, yes?

Well, hopefully not eye spy from the ground, but I'm guessing any nation worth it's salt in the orbital game would have cameras to spy on other satellites. That's just a guess, but I'd really doubt otherwise.

Indeed. The satellites have budget-limited systems for visual band optical cloaking (we painted them black), so they're hard to spot with an optical telescope. And most of a satellite-hunting program's budget will probably go for radar anyways because radar can detect objects down to a few millimeters in size, whereas optical only manages several centimeters. The satellites can probably be found if a government gives a sizable budget to hunting them, and knows what to look for, but nobody knows what to look for IC yet, so they only have to hide from orbital debris management programs and nations that don't know what to look for.

The easiest way to find the Hailstorm X sats might actually be infrared, seeing as they bleed a lot of heat with the whole "they are painted black" affair, but infrared telescopes aren't usually used for satellite hunting, so you'd need to find one to know how to look for one to find one. You could also spot them in the visual band as they pass in front of the sun, but again, you'd need a specialised telescope for that (normal ones can't look at the sun), so you'd need to find one to know how to look for one to find one.

*fires hundreds of ASATs into orbit*

Problem solved.

He he. You've found the main anti-ASAT method that Hailstorm employs. It is cheap per unit. On average, if you fire more than 5 or 6 ASATs to kill one Hailstorm satellite, Congreveopia is economically winning the exchange. Unlike most players' massive kinetic bombardment stations, an individual Hailstorm pod only costs about 50 million.

I choose the second definition of it. This meaning rule by virtue and not owning land to be allowed to vote or hold political office. Instead one is required to serve time in the military (currently 6 years)

Also, so that this post has some relevance to Project Warfighter:

1. Playing since 0.25, I prefer sandbox.

2. Send the team to my location but don't rescue them, only keep them to where I can see them In-Character. I want to make the post.

And also, to defend my satellite, I just install guns on them (like the Soviets tried with MIR) and hope that my enemy underestimated me enough to not suspect anything.

Okay, so I should send my guys over to near yours. Do you want them to be near enough that they are shooting at the zombies attacking your guys, near enough that they radio your guys to inform them there are friendlies arriving, or near enough to just see your guys?

My solution was to randomly issue orders for satalites to de-orbit at random, usually starting with enemy GPS, tele-comm, and spy-sats. Then hope a few are solidly-enough built for a chunk to become a godrod.

BTW, if anyone wants to RP my Mi-6 making its run, fine. Just keep in mind Adrian is a good enough pilot to handle an Mi-6 with its tail missing and lugging a tank under its belly.
-No mast-bumping here. Lil trick I learned from a LOACH-pilot (OH-6A, 1964).

I know a welder that did otherwise after an RPG blew the tail off his loach. 40 minute ride on the tilt-a-whirl back to base using the stub-boom as a counterweight to the torque. Managed for 30+ miles. Cosidering he's still got both arms and legs, I'd say he was successful.
-I'd imagine this may have confused some commies.

That's a video game.
