Time to get my orbital physics on!

Alright, so, approximately 100 kilometers above the atmosphere is Shyluz's civil space station, known as Khrabrost. It's your generic space station for civilians. At approximately 95 kilometers orbital is Shyluz's military station, which is still mostly classified. It is commonly known as Khrabost Square. It is equipped with several point defense guns of the thirty mm caliber, and is primarily intended for ground support. It is given several types of ordinance pods, the ROMULUS pods are equipped with a ROMULUS class automated sentry, and can be dropped from orbit using disposable ion thrusters (these are real, they have the thrust equivalent of the weight of a single sheet of paper,) it then falls into atmo. Once at one kilometer up, it deploys drouge chutes, and cuts them at 500 meters. It also detaches the heat shield at the 500 meter mark. It then lands using integrated solid rocket boosters. The second kind is a REMUS pod, which deploys much in the same way, but with a REMUS class automated sentry instead of a ROMULUS. The third type is given weaponry instead of a sentry, and is used as a mobile resupply point. The fourth and final pod type is the highly classified TITANICA pod. Which amounts to a standard rod-from-God system, but the heat shield is filled with small explosives, it essentially acts as a armor penetrating area of denial weapon.

Science-y enough, Cong? :D

Also, just call me Shy.

A lot better than most orbital weapons systems I've seen here. I have a few minor nitpicks, but all in all it seems fine (except for one thing).

  • Ion engines take a long time to generate meaningful Delta-V. Timeliness is a priority, so you should use a liquid fuel engine. Your soldiers do not want their support to arrive in a few months.
  • I can see the motivation to deploy the drogues and parachutes so low: it increases speed, and, more importantly, accuracy. You are putting a lot of stress on the system by doing so, though.
  • SRBs aren't very controllable. They're fine to just slow it in the last few seconds, but they won't help with guidance.
  • The atmosphere ends at 10,000 km, one third of the way to the geosync (depending on what you go by). You should measure the height of your station above the ground, not the atmosphere.

Oh, and one major problem: It will take hours for the system to deploy, depending on where you are in the world.

I assume that Khrabrost Square is in polar orbit. Assuming the pods aren't using a lot of Delta-V to sharply change their orbit prior to reentry, they will need to wait for Khrabost Square to be coming up on the part of Earth where the supplies were requested, which I think will take a couple of hours at least. I could be wrong about this, though. I'm going off of guesswork, not simulations.

Alright, but I was going off 100+ hours in KSP. :lol2:

You're probably correct. So I'll edit in the changes. The SRBs deploy similarily to the Soyuz capsule, by the way. And you're correct, I didn't bother to do my research about the atmosphere etc. etc., however, Khrabrost Square is not one station. I still have some secrets, see? Khrabrost Square is a series of remotely controlled sats controlled centrally from the Hub. The Hub itself is in a polar orbit, and is home to UITU-12. Each of the sats in a low orbit (12,000 km from sea) and has a quite quick orbit. Each sat has an orbital operations motor that allows it to go into geosync with the target location.

Khrabrost Square remade!

Then may I save your troops?

Unless I'm incorrect, I did say all frequencies, yes?

Believe me, KSP is the way to go. Aside from that, 12,000 km is MEO, not LEO (and it'll take a while to get down from there), but that's about my only remaining concern.

Also, all this discussion led me to redo my Hailstorm factbook. I mention it in case anyone wants to take a look at it.

You put it wherever you want, dude. Mine (Hailstorm) is between 100 km and 500 km, but if you want yours at 10,500 km, go for it. It'll just take a long time to get down, and cost more to put up. Lofting a space station to that height is also quite an effort (unless Khrabrost Square is at a height more like the ISS, around 400 km), but I'm sure it's worth it for some reason that... doesn't come to mind right not. :p

EDIT: By the way, Greater Soviet Ukraine, do you want to get up another post about your soldiers before I post about the rescue team I'm sending, or should I post again right away?

Ah, okay, yes, KSP has some flaws. Realistically depicting atmospheres is among them.

In KSP, the atmosphere just ends at 70 km, and space begins. In the real world, the atmosphere goes thinner and thinner the higher you go, and there's no clear point where it ends, and space begins. So, you can orbit Earth at any height you want, but the lower you are, the faster drag slows you down and lowers your periapsis. Something like the ISS, at 400 km isn't burning up or anything, but they do have to re-boost the station every so often to stop it from falling too deep into the atmosphere. So, while below 10,000 km is in the Exosphere (the highest layer of the atmosphere), we can still store satellites there. The low ones will just have to spend fuel staying up, and eventually deorbit when they run out.

Let's just say it's low in the Exosphere, with the Hub being at ISS height. Wheras Khrabrost itself is barely still in Earth's SOI.

Earth's SOI is just under 106 km. While I can imagine putting a space station at the edge of it (for a couple trillion dollars). I don't see the justification for doing so. That doesn't have much bearing on this RP, though, seeing as it's your civilian station.

What if your merry band of VTOLs and the Hurti gunship airlifted Obl's and Shy's men to the train? Or to the bar & Grill thread?

"The Train" was Hurty's way of thinking bigger than a f'in school-bus. And offers a generally pretty non-congested traffic-route (the rails) more or less right to their objective and/or clear of the blast-zones (which is important since we don't have the ability to airlift y'alls out in time anymore).

"The bar" is the IC thread for characters no longer in operations. Because attrition.

Someone please think of the GEKKOs.

Nah, if Kayora's talking in any way Nexus can gain access to, Nexus is listening. (She has piqued the interest of Congreveopia Data Command.) Nexus will probably answer any question she asks him (as long as it's not a national secret like "What is Hailstorm X?"), and Nexus can pass her telemetry from my soldiers if she wants it.

Was there a particular question or request that she had that you want me to respond to? Do you want to do an IC dialogue between the two? (I like writing for Nexus, so I'd be happy to do this if you want.) Or is the whole "He's listening, and he'll answer if she asks." thing enough?

Also, I think Charles might have a kindred spirit in Kayora, given how she treats the drones.

*Kayora's secondary objective: SAVE TEH GEKKOS! She calls one of them "Henry". 8th unit aboard ship.

She'd inform Nexus of the color-codes for 2 hour chem-lights.

Green (bright): Friendlies are here, or were here recently. Safe zone.
Green (dim): Friendlies have passed through this area less than 2 hours ago, supplies have been left here
(chem-light may be destroyed upon leaving to avoid using an orange)

Orange: Contact has been made with undead here / do not plan on staying here. Salvageable position / falling-up point. Some assistance would be nice, though.

Red: This place has recently been overrun, supplies likely left behind, but do not attempt to salvage. AKA: It's a killzone.
-She'd also offer the train as a means of transportation since the VTOLs are just about due for bingo.

Viggen-6-2 should be returning to the AO with a full load of fuel. It's only a single ADF Osprey, but it could do some dust off work and CAS with its Gatlings and rockets.

That being said, it's more likely Viggen-6-2 will either place priority on Sierra Team, or might get shot at by some hostile survivors, with possible negative results.

No. We are not doing Orbital Space Stations. that discussion was in the last thread and lasted forever. Also Mon expect a TG within the next 6-8 hours from my time now(10 A.M. or so EST). This is so we can roleplay the interaction between my group and yours.

Yeah, but this is a zombie thread and has different realisim expectations. Also, I talked with Shyluz, and we established that (with a few minor fixes) his system is realistic (enough). In my mind, the discussion was over already, until you brought it up again.

Congreveopia is an advanced MT nation, managed by the artificial superintelligence known as "Nexus". It is very active in global affairs, and loves manipulating nations to steer the future of the world.

I'm doing things and like, I leave for 2 days and there's a mess in the house. Children, please, stop cluttering our beautiful home with non-meaningful posts! OR I DONT KNOW I HAVEN'T READ THEM. I HAVEN't SLEPT IN MANY HOURS

A: No Super Space Stations. Guys we're trying NOT to be future-sci fi.

B: Please dun splice-- fuck iet, I trust you Monfrox.

C: Bar thread? I can start it. I'm the Patriarch of TF Atlas, just, URA is your Parent. I started it and he's now your parent and I have about as much say as the usual grand parent would. No I don't want to go back to the home. You can't make me, voices in my head.

D: Get Lennox to the Carrier, GEKKO activation will occur on a mass scale.

Okay guys, we really need to stick to our roots here. TF Atlas is supposed to be more of a realistic modern with post modern elements. I understand each nation has its unique flair, but the focus is on the pure skill of operators here. Please don't confuse this with "Let's try our new experimental DOGEcam protective suits which blend in everywhere with a WIFI connection" We need to strive to be a group on NS which really takes the Special operations ops seriously. I apologize for not being here more but life is beckoning and do know I'm doing everything to stay here with my beloved Project Warfighter crew.

Necropolis is just to eliminate a few inactive squads and test your troops. Please don't level the city blocks during it. We aren't Michael Bay (Much as I would love to meet him and Josh Duhamel.)

XoXo - Grandpa Operator NEC

Also there's over 6 pages of stuff I have to read in order to understand what's currently going on so please don't hesitate to inform me if the Godking has made any decisions since then. I'd look but I have to study for tests. Please do your best to curb posts with little to no reasoning or Lennox will be forced to spoiler more things. Can I get a short summary?

[spoiler[ and we wouldn't want that now would we [/spoilr]
