Skirmishes in the Saturnian Bay!

Mons Saturni and Haynesotopia have come to arms over trading issues in the Saturnian bay. After a Saturnian declaration of exclsive trading zones for Saturnian merchant ships, the Empire of Haynesotopia refused to recognize to the declaration and sent in trading ships escorted by warships. The Saturnian Navy responded in force and a major clash developed, seeing Haynesotopian ships retreating. Both nations have begun assembling and mobilizing armed forces and Rudiya teeters on the brink of war. Haynesotopia has called for support against what they term 'unwarranted aggression' and 'illegal action' by Mons Saturni. The Saturnian government has said only "The Saturnian people never forget their friends. Nor their enemies. Tread carefully."
Lines are being drawn, alliances are being forged. Where does your nation stand?

OFFICIAL STATEMENT FROM THE IMPERIAL PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF MONS SATURNI TO CONGRESS AND TO THE WORLD

"This day, December first, eighteen hundred and fifty-five, a date which henceforth will be burnt into the minds of all who question the power of Mons Saturni, a convoy of Haynesotopian warships in accompaniment to trade vessels of the same nation aggressively ventured into the maritime jurisdiction of the United States of Mons Saturni. Our navy, by command of the honorable Fleet Admiral Veygónd, responded accordingly, seeing that hostile naval vessels had entered into our waters. A bloody clash ensued, and no less than seven ships on both sides were sunk. A naval rescue force has been dispatched to assist in the recovery of all sailors, from both nations. The loss of life is utterly astounding. Hauntingly, it has been reported to me no less than an hour ago that vehement tapping can still be heard from inside some ships. May those who have died rest in peace. "

In the waning hours of twilight, the Saturnian fleet spotted a foreign armada to their north. As they hurriedly prepared for hostilities, the foreign flagship flashed them a signal. These ships were friendly, the CS Trident task force from the Dominion. As the sun set on Rudiya, James I of House Brennan, King of the Cornishmen, Lord of the Travin and Emperor of the North issued an official proclamation: "Our ever firm and steadfast ally, Mons Saturni today found herself in conflict with naval forces from the Empire of Haynesotopia. I have authorized the use of military means to support our allies in their righteous struggle. The CS Trident steams south led by rear Admiral Anton Reydner, and our submarines are taking positions to blockade the enemy. If we do not receive acquiescence from our foe by morning, the Dominion will be at war. Our nation is founded on blood and iron, and by our blood and iron our enemies shall tremble and our allies rejoice. Let it be known to the world, that on this day, the Dominion did not sit idly by. Hwen your children, your children's children, read about this in their history lessons, let them say 'My father fought in that battle. My mother served her country in that war.' For we Cornishmen are not a people to let the world bleed around us. We are a people of will. We are a people of strength. We are a people of iron. We are a people of victory!"

And so it was, that the Dominion of the Corn intervened on behalf of their ally, Mons Saturni. The balance of power was tipping in their favor, and the noose was growing ever tighter for Haynesotopia.
The Cornishmen had now decided, that the Haynesotopian would be horrifically slaughtered and mutilated brought to justice and a pro-Dominion puppet government would be installed a more equitable and amiable nation would be made of Haynesotopia. This decision was made due to economic interests in tade agreements with Mons Saturni the amiable and familial relationship between the sister nations of Mons Saturni and the Dominion.

"This eight hundred and fifty-fifth year, in this twelfth year of this peaceable confederation, on this spark of the first of many potential unrestrained attacks from Mons Saturni, the people of Haynesotopia have spoken. No longer will the people watch its 800-year old merchant business, which contributes to the success of the entire region, conflagrate under the watchful eye of the Dominion of the Corn, the accomplice in the Saturnian robbery that endangers Rudiyan livelihood, turns Rudiyans upon each other, and kills fellow Rudiyans under the misnomer of a Rudiyan confederation. Restrictions on trade, on life and on property are to be left as intranational affairs. Or rather, they were to be left as such. For this ignoble disturbance of the sanctity of international and intraregional trust has rendered retaliatory action close to mandatory. If not for the involuntary signing of national documents to which the Imperial Legate is inclined, the adjacent nation and the imperialist one to the north would have been shattered in brutal impetus. However, upon careful diplomatic consideration, to which the Imperial Legate is also accustomed, the government has declared null and void all belligerent and toxic trade barriers, on the basis that the founding of this confederation failed to mention an allowance for acts of petty yet venomous practices between nations within the league. Therefore, the Empire and all its affiliates and all its outlying territories will continue to sail its rightful and shared seas, not with impunity, but with necessity in the interest of the region's economic success."

In response to the recent outbreak of violence in the seas shared previously by Mons Saturni and Haynesotopia, the peaceful nation of Chi chi chiacchere has decided to side with the peaceful plan of Haynesotopia. The familial ties to the ruling class of Haynesotopia is irrelevant: this is a matter of morality and sin, peace and war, life and death. For if war is to break out between these two nations, nations that have been a strong presence in the history of the Plains Confederation, then not only will all sides involved be exponentially weakened, but conflict will also weaken the entirety of Rudiya. Trade in this sea is very important to both countries; that has been recognized. This bloodshed has been a dishonor to the many sailors, government leaders, and other persons who have worked for so long to create amiable relations in this maritime area. The government of Mons Saturni mentioned that those who died in the battle must be avenged, for they will not have died in vain. But this rationale is harmful to all, for if we justify the killing of some men for the killing of many men, then what does that make us but hypocrites? The solution to this tragedy is not to cause more death, but rather to honor the lives lost by coming together to peaceful terms. After all, the men died in a confrontation over the water rights, so why not mirror their dying cause by establishing peace between the nations to avoid future confrontations like the one that occurred? I propose that at approxiamately 10:00 AM tomorrow, that is, December 2, an assembly representing both the nations of Mons Saturni and Haynesotopia will meet near the area of catastrophe on one ship. From there, each delegation will exchange a wreath of flowers, as a symbol of both the new peace between the nations, and of the valiant men lost at sea. Then, after a funeral for the men lost, the delegates will drop the wreaths into the ocean as a sign of respect for the dead. Then, the government of Chi chi chiacchere proposes that the ship used for the funeral may be a sign of the treaty between the nations, and may rest either in that sea or on land, on the border between the nations. Then, a proper treaty will be signed, further enabling the continued, shared trade that had prospered for so long. This unfortunate event is one that the whole of Rudiya can learn from. We must avoid war at all costs and instead remember the fallen, and respect them by ensuring peace for our children, our children's children, and every generation after.

The time for negotiations has come and gone, and the Chiaccherean agreement would only benefit Haynesotopia. Saturnian trade rights must be recognized and accepted absolutely for conflict to be avoided

"As has been demonstrated by the rogue state of Mons Saturni, aggression and pure brawn will only lead to destruction of union and loss of life. This is untenable in the far greater goal of resolving the trade dispute. In fact, none of these aggressions would have arisen had the Haynesotopian ships not been trading with their Cornish partners. Therefore, Haynesotopia and all its present allies will henceforth cease all trade with The Dominion of the Corn and the Dmpire of Mons Saturni. Such a well-justified embargo would, this administration hopes, pressure both governments into renewed and revitalized trade relationships with its alienated brothers. The pressure would come as a direct result of the dependence of the union of Mons Saturni and The Dominion of the Corn on regional trade. Their combined net trade is an import of 3.77 billion Standard Rudiyan Notes. The combined net trade of the four confirmed members of the Haynesotopian alliance is an export of 10.35 billion SRN. In short, The Dominion and Mons Saturni are screwed without unrestricted trade, which is a reason to drop the economically-unsustainable restrictions on the economically-sustainable alliance."

The Dominion runs a trade surplus and the Saturnian and Cornish economies are sustainable separate from the rest of the region. Regardless, the Saturnian coalition will not cease action until capitulation is received and a recognition of Saturnian trade rights is recognized. The combined military and economic might of the Saturnian alliance is unstoppable.

I second the Chiacherrian plan- if the Dominion will bully its sovereign member states into complying with every ultimatum it thinks up with the punishment of destruction, there is no reason to become entangled in this monstrosity any longer. It is now time for a counter-ultimatum.
1. The Dominion of the Corn and the United States of Mons Saturni must redistribute exactly half of their liquid and physical military might to the militarily weakest 4 countries within the Plains Confederation.
2. There must be no military retaliation against any party involved due to this ultimatum.
3. If these demands are not met, all parties not allied with the Dominion or the United States aforementioned will secede from the Plains Confederation.
