Attack on Archibald Dam!

The Archibald Dam generates over 50TWh annually.

The government just announced that at 12:41 today there was an explosion at the Archibald Dam, and the facility's structural integrity may be compromised. In a brief statement today, the government asked residents in towns beneath the dam to not panic. However, they have also begun evacuating the nearest town of 600,000 people is being evacuated, and there is a warning issued to 8 million people who would be in danger if the dam failed. Many residents are beginning to flee the area.

Please do not make this message publicly known.
Today, at 12:38, an unidentified man approached the main entrance to the Dam control station. He was ordered to stop and did not comply. Security officers disabled him with a ranged electric stun weapon (a TASER). Once they approached him, explosives concealed on his person detonated, wounding or killing eight officers. An exact casualty count cannot be determined at this point, because following that someone concealed on a nearby hill began firing on the remaining security personnel, forcing them to retreat. The firefight is still in progress, with at least two officers KIA. Judging by reports from the personnel there, the hostile is an experienced sniper. Shortly following the start of this attack, a civilian boat upriver of the dam crossed into the restricted area surrounding the dam. This went unnoticed due to the first attack. By the time someone noticed the boat, it was too near the dam for anyone to intervene, and proceeded to crash into the dam and detonate a large quantity of high explosives aboard, destroying the boat and compromising the structural integrity of the dam. The facility is now in lockdown, and it is unknown whether the dam will be able to withstand the damage. There are unconfirmed reports of multiple shooters on the hills around the dam firing on security personnel there.

6) PAY ATTENTION TO TIME. This is the big one. Something that always irks me is how time is disregarded in RPs. I've seen battlegroups travel around the world IC while people are having a conversation IC, and that makes no sense unless the battlegroup is in orbit or the people are having a month-long philosophy debate. A good rule of thumb is that if you want to post about something more than 5-15 minutes in the future, just post that you're starting it. For example say "Relief workers take off for Congreveopia." not "Relief workers fly to Congreveopia and begin repairing the dam."

Minister Martina Novotná, the overall leader of the UARRG (United Armed Republics of Rodstov and Grenoda) received the message from Congreveopia outlining what happened. It seemed like a terror attack at one of the regions dams. And it seemed that it was still going on. She would have to react fast to avoid the spread of panic in that area and there would be the chance to improve relations with yet another country.

Hello,

I wish to assist in the crisis you have alerted me to. I have a special unit on stand by for these types of stuations. The Rodstov and Grenoda Joint Incident Response Unit is our best of the best from each branch of our military. Soldiers, Military Police, Medics, Engineers, Comm specialists, Etc. We would like to send an advance team to help you and your security forces re-secure the dam's site and the surrounding area and assess the situation at the dam.

Later on after the dam is secured we can prep a Combat Engineer Regiment to join the advance team to see what we can do about the dam, and if necessary prepare for the nearby towns to be flooded if the worst should happen.

Once she had finished the email, she sent it away and called her Minister of International Affairs to get the Senate together for and emergency meeting and to send out the call to mobilize the RGJIRU and the 31st Grenodian Pioneer Regiment for deployment for Peacekeeping and Disaster relief duties.

Once done she compiled all the information she would need on her Omi pad (Holo Tablet) and left the room to head for the Senate chamber.

Archibald Dam, 12:46:

Officer Miles was crouched behind a concrete crash barrier. By his count there were maybe… nine other officers in cover near him. The roar of the water was almost drowned out by the alarm sirens informing all personnel to move off the dam.

“ATTENTION!” said one “CRITICAL DAMAGE TO DAM STRUCTURE! PROCEED OFF THE DAM IMMEDIATELY, AND MOVE A SAFE DISTANCE UPRIVER.”

“Wish that I could.” thought Miles. He turned and looked at the others hiding in assorted cover nearby.

“Who’s in charge here?!” shouted someone.

“Thomas!” shouted Miles.

“Thomas is dead!” shouted someone else.

“Jake, then!” shouted Miles. “What are your orders, Jake?!”

“Hold position!” yelled Jake “We need to wait for support!”

“Augh! God! Someone help!” yelled an officer on the ground nearby that Miles had thought was dead.

“Cover me!” yelled Miles.

“Covering!” yelled Jake, popping out from cover and opening fire in the rough direction of the sniper. Miles turned to look at him, and as he did, Jake’s head vanished in a spray of red. He heard the report of the sniper’s shot a second later.

“I can’t do this.” thought Miles “But this is my only chance. Just go now, and it’ll be fine.”

He ran out towards the injured officer. It felt like he was moving in slow motion. He felt the heat from the sun above, and the reflected heat from the concrete below. It felt like Miles had been running forever by the time he reached the wounded officer and began dragging him back to cover. He partially noticed other officers were doing their best to suppress the sniper.

“Maybe he’s been killed?” thought Miles “I haven’t heard him shoot again.”

Suddenly another report. Miles’s heart skipped a beat, but he was okay. If he’d heard the shot, then it hadn’t killed him. Why couldn’t he dray the wounded man faster?

Another report and then pain. Pain shot through Miles’s right arm as the sniper’s bullet passed through his upper arm and flew out the other side. He swore and fell over backwards. He wasn’t in cover yet, but he was so close. He gripped the wounded man’s collar and made one last massive pull, and they were back in cover.

“You…” said Miles, somewhat delirious “...owe me one.”

He looked down. The man’s head was a bloody ruin. A shot had torn through his face and most of his brain. The sniper’s second shot had torn through his head. The sniper wouldn’t even let Miles save a dying man!

“Fuck!” Miles screamed.

“Jake’s dead!” yelled someone “Who’s in charge?!”

“I am.” said Miles “Let’s kill that bastard! Everyone, charge!”

“Of all the times to be refitting on the ground!” screamed the Commander. “This is exactly the sort of incident we are designed to respond to. Nexus, how long until we can be airborne?”

“A large number of systems will be non-functional if you depart at this time.” said Nexus “Including all gun decks and most of the control systems without manual emergency overrides. Give us thirty minutes and I think I can get most of the essential systems back to some degree of operational.”

“Flight time after that?” asked the Commander.

“Three hours.” said Nexus. “With in-air refueling, more like four.”

“In-air refueling?” asked the Commander.

“The plane is kept un-fuelled during maintenance in a secure airport.” said Nexus “Even despite that, you are dangerously overburdened with equipment from the refitting. You are already over maximum takeoff weight, and if I add more than a tiny quantity of fuel, you won’t be able to fly at all.”

“We leave the F-35s here.” said the Commander “Now fill our fuel tanks and get us in the sky.”

“Recalculating.” said Nexus “Plan adjusted. Flight time to dam: three hours. Once you reach the dam, you can linger for thirty minutes before needing refueling.”

“Thirty minutes!” said the Commander “Fine. It’ll have to do.”

Hello!

Thank you for your timely response. The RGJIRU can confirm it can arrive Via V-120 "Valkyrie" in 45 Minutes from a Heli Carrier in your Region of the United Nations of Secoritan. The V-120 is a Quad-Rotor Heavy lift "Helicopter" so we can land anywhere their is enough space. Looking at the images you shown us we could possibly land at the site with permission of course The L.Z. would be, as I've been told, near where the first attack occurred. If not, I've been also told that the helicopter has loaded two M.48BUP MRAP vehicles for a speedy transport from the airport you mentioned.

The team that will be sent will consist of 8 members from RGJIRU and the 31st Grenodian Pioneers will use the carrier and arrive at a near by port to off load supplies required to assist at the damn and the surrounding area if necessary.

I will make sure the Ship, the Early response team and the 31st relay through Fortress the details.

RGJIRU Team Alfa on board the Carrier Meč (Czech word for Sword)

The senate was now in session back at home. Team Alfa was going in ahead of the official order to assist Congreveopians with what was going on. The firefight might be over when they got there but they may be able to help secure the Damn and have a look at what was wrong with it before the 31st arrived with supplies to help remedy the crisis.

The 31st Grenodian Pioneer Regiment would start Flying out in V-120's as soon as they were given orders to which could be an hour or two depending on how slow the diplomatic process took.

The 8 man team that was going in were "crisis fixers" from each branch of the AFRG. Soldiers, Medics and Engineers suited for the task before them. 4 of them were a standard fire team consisting of a Team leader, a Grenadier, a Machine Gunner and a Marksman to help with the security forces on the ground. While the second fire team consisted of an Engineer, a Repair specialist, a Medic and an Officer to lead the whole group.

Weapon: MK200 6.5x35mm LMG with ARCO and Suppressor
Armor Mk.2 Heavy "Dragon Armor" Body armor (Full Kit).

Once on board of the V-120 it took of from Meč beating the air into submission with it for large propellers that lifted the large craft into the air. It made a bee line for the country attempting to get their in time to help. Depending on the travel arrangements they had to make they could get there in 40 to 45 minutes or... 3 to 4 hours. Regardless the team would be ready to assist when they arrive already sitting in their M.48BUP's.

The airfield was a hub of bustling activity. Nine huge Airbus A400M's were lined up on the four and a half kilometer long runway, their propellers screaming. Workers scrambled around the aircrafts, loading equipment and securing helicopters and armored personnel carriers. A shrill beep was emitted from the speaker system and, on cue, the 500 Korchayki Royal Engineers filled out. Each one was equipped in their standard gear; a Mk 17 SCAR-H, a Sarsılmaz Kılınç 2000, a tactical knife, protective bullet proof gear and a belt of tools. Yet another beep screamed forth from the speaker and the airfield fell silent.

Out of a grey concrete building, Commander Emir Cem Kağan Burak strolled forwards purposefully. He was a tall man of 6"3 with scared, tan skin and greying hair of a man far beyond his age. However, he had the physique of a much younger man. Burak stood in front of the Engineers; his stern features gazing out onto the men.

"Yoldaşlarız!" he bellowed in a deep, gravely voice. "Today, you will go forth into the nation of Congreveopia. As you have been briefed, there has been three terrorist attacks on the Archibald Dam, severely compromising the dams structural integrity. This will not be an easy mission. However, you have a job. This job is to fix the dam. You are all trained to do tasks like this and should achieve it easily. But the environment will be the issue. Thus, if something shoots at you, you shoot it. So, go forth, my yoldaşlarız, and do this for Korchayk, the wellbeing of Congreveopia and the glory of the Shah's!"

A roar erupted from the men as they were directed to the aircraft. Commander Burak slipped out of sight as the engines of KAF 100A fired up. The steady drone of the engines grew into a earsplitting shout as the plane flew into the sky. Consequently, the second, third and fourth planes took off. Then, it was time for the people carrier aircraft to takeoff. As the planes screamed up into the sky, the engineers knew that, in four hours, they would be in Congreveopia and, as a result, in a warzone.

0300 Hours Constitutional Republic of Urran

Urran is a mostly peaceful East Asian nation, renowned for both it's ancient culture, and modern, neon cities that navy slept. Almost thirty minutes after the initial explosion of the dam in Congreveopia, Urranese late night news stations began to report on the event. Of course, it was seen as just another terrorist attack in a far off place by some. The nation's people tended to be very centrist in regards to international affairs, as long as it did not affect them in anyway.

However, while some felt apathy, others saw opportunity, where there is strife, or threat of war, there is often profit to be made. No one seemed to know this better than the Urranese. Private military contractors, arms manufacturers, and even farmers could all make a penny or two from their respective trades. Making friends with other nations, whether by supplying them with what they needed, or helping directly, often led to trade deals which led to money, which strengthened Urran's economy and influence in the world. While some saw compassion, in reality, this was just business to Urran.

In a few hours, some company somewhere was sure to send a business proposal to the government of the affected country, in fact, Fujijima Energy was already drawing up a plan to send equipment and men to work on the dam's pumps in exchange for a possible future contract. Urran was powered by 80% nuclear energy, however, the pumps used on both hydroelectric, and nuclear plants were relatively similar and the knowledge the company could provide might prove valuable.

It was only a matter of time before arms dealers got whiff of it and also floated business proposals across the sea to the affected nation.

The government's response would come a few hours later when the Prime Minister officially condemned the actions of those responsible. However, it was unlikely that Urran would send any type of peacekeeping or combat force unless things in the area worsened and war, whether against a nation or terrorist organization, seemed inevitable, or actually occurred. Seeing as how the nation was so far removed and totally unrelated to Urran until possibly the near future, no actions were taken to heighten security in Urran.

Five minutes from Congreveopia Maritime boarder
1310hours

"This is Pelican -025, Calling Fortress, We are a AFRG Aid Unit coming to aid Security forces at the Archibald Dam, Requesting permission to enter Congreveopian Airspace and land at the Dam or near by the site, Over!"

The V-120 stayed on course and awaited confirmation of entrance into the country. While this was happening Alfa team went over the brief and what happened. They would be fully armed for a combat drop although the would be under the command of the call sign "Fortress" while they were in country. Explosives near the site would be only use if it would protect the lives of the security forces and themselves from any X-rays (contacts) they would encounter during the op.

The fire team of combat specialists would go to the security personal and assist them in securing the damn while the Engineer and Repair specialist would assess the structural integrity of the dam. The officer and the Medic would move together and assess the wounded and take command on the ground to quickly clear the zone of hostiles. If they did this quickly the Congreveopian's could recover before an other attack could occur.

Back in Rodstov and Grenoda

The 31st Grenodian Pioneer Regiment got their go ahead with the mission to assist with Congreveopian crisis with the full support of the senate. The 1200 man Regiment would be flown via V-120 "Valkyrie" and MH-64 "Hurons" To the Carrier Meč which was also now making flank speed for the Congreveopian coast line to unload the Regiment so it would be able to begin their trek inland to the damn and help out.

“And they followed him…” said one of the police officers at the dam over the radio “...but I couldn’t… and then they were all dead… the sniper got every last one of them…”

“Okay.” said a technician “Just stay where you are and keep telling us what’s going on. You’re going to be okay. Support is going to arrive soon.”

“Okay.” said the police officer “Okay. I’m on the dam. The alarms are still going off, and there’s a huge chunk missing where the boat exploded. And there are cracks! Oh God!”

“It’s okay.” said the technician “It’s okay. You’re fine. The dam is fine. Keep talking to me, just take it nice and slow.”

“Drone’s in sight now.” said another technician “And we’ve still got the facility’s security cameras. Why are you making him report things we already know.”

“It’s keeping him sane.” said the first technician, muting her mic. She unmuted it and resumed talking “Now, how about the water? How does it look?”

Response Team Alpha, approaching the Dam from downriver, 13:05:

The Blackhawk tore along above the river, the pilot pushing the helicopter far past maximum speed. In the back, the SWAT team checked their gear and prepared to deploy. They had a couple extra medics with them for this mission, and most of them were carrying longer-range weapons than normal to deal with the sniper.

“Dam is in sight.” said the pilot “Get ready to go.”

The helicopter’s doors slid open and the pilot pulled up sharply, converting their speed to altitude. The helicopter came to an almost perfect stop just over the top of the dam, and fast-ropes unrolled from either side of the helicopter. As the first people began fast-roping down, the others opened fire on the hillside in the general direction of the sniper, trying their best to keep him suppressed.

The first man hit the ground. He ran over towards the sole surviving police officer and got into cover next to him. He began checking the policeman for wounds and trying to calm him down.

Suddenly, a puff of orange light appeared on the hill, and a rocket flew out towards the helicopter.

“AA fire!” yelled the pilot. He pulled right sharply, and the SWAT team members still aboard tried their best to hang on.

The rocket gently curved towards the helicopter, arcing slightly into the wind. Before anyone even had time to fully react, it slammed into the side of the helicopter and exploded, destroying most of the tail structure and the right side of the cabin.

“Have taken critical damage, and I am going down.” said the pilot. “Helicopter is non-controllable.”

The machine hovered in place for a few seconds, as if it wasn't fully aware of its demise yet. Smoke and flame poured out of the damaged section. One of the people aboard leapt out, his uniform on fire, and fell to his death on the concrete of the dam below. Finally, the tail rotor slowed and the helicopter began to rotate. It listed to one side and slid downwards, then crashed onto the dam, engulfing the area around it in a fireball.

Fortress, Platinum Soldiers Main Base, Northern Congreveopia Wasteland, 13:07:

“Shit.” said a technician.

“Lightingbird is down.” said the Commander “Are any members of the team alive?”

“No.” said a technician.

“Okay.” said the Commander “I’m authorizing limited air strikes to re-secure the dam. Nexus, get an armed drone over there now.”

The V-120 switched from forward flight to VTOL mode and arced the nose up which made most people hang in their seats and the V-120 mimicked the Black hawk maneuver, However it was closer to the position of the sniper and RPG Gunner. It flew low over the security check point and stopped in a hover, then lowered itself onto the "parking lot"¹ The ramp lowered the 4 Cargo masters unhooked the two MRAPs held in place via restraints. The drivers revved their engines to life as the V-120 was about to touch down.

In the hold of KAF Airbus A400M 100A, Commander Kağan Deniz was examining the one hundred and twenty five engineers that would be under his command. Commander Deniz was a thirty five year old muscular but short man with a thick, bushy black beard. His eyes were hidden behind Aviator sunglasses and tanned, bald head was masked by a cap. From there, a force of twenty men, including a unit commander, would travel in a GTK Boxer forty miles to a defensible wooded area. Once there, the force would begin clearing a landing zone for the Sikorsky CH-53E Super Stallions and more GTK Boxers. The helicopters would land and deposit the Armoured Land Carriers. After that, the men will began fortifying the landing zone. Next, the engineers will evaluate the damage to the dam and begin to work on fixing or limiting the damage. At any point, there will always be ten men watching and protecting the soldiers. Finishing his plans, Commander Deniz lent back and got comfortable. Just three hours left, he thought, just three hours until the biggest mission of his life began.

Once the goverment had publicly announced that there had been an attack on the dam it was immediately reported by the Servintan C.I.D.S agents who were monitoring the Congreveopia National television news feed.In light of the attack the Servintan goverment officials began to ponder weather they would assist with the relief force at the dam or if they would simply watch and wait for the situation to unfold while also increasing their own security levels to anticipate any terrorist actions similar to that which had befallen congrevepia.

"Zis is Duurkoop PAFB control tower two to flight 132, your aircraft is cleared for departure and is to proceed to assigned destination, god speed comrades." The air traffic control tower had received the go ahead from the Servintan high command and after confirming that the plane was loaded with all listed personal they hailed the pilot over the radio.

"Received, this is 132 heading out." Flight Levtenant Krek replied as he and his co pilot flipped the switches and started the takeoff sequence, it had been a rough morning having his liberty pulled because only he and another pilot were close enough to man the plane and that had generally put the day down the tube for him.

In the back of the military transport was a squad of Servintan paratroop commandos, they sat silently stewing over the fact that almost everyone in the aircraft had been on liberty when they were recalled back to their garrison and told that they were being sent to some country called Congreveopia.The only person who didn't seem pissed off was the squad leader,Senior tsargent Yuri who was explaining the intricate details to the men as he walked about checking their gear before takoff.The information included maps and diagrams of the dam along with marked areas where the enemy was supposedly taking shelter, all of this was explained to the men, all of it was loathed.

Finally the plane made its taxi onto the runway and within a minute its two powerful propeller engines pulled it from the ground as it raced down the runway at break neck speed.
