They weren't Communist. Communism is a stateless, classless, egalitarian and democratic society free from capitalism and oppression. None of the countries these leaders led fit these criteria. Therefore, not Communist.

When I saw this I just opened notepad and started looking through and recording stuff, turns out that only about 1/15 things are caused by capitalists. The rest is bloody governments, governments that allow private ownership of property. The private owners don't cause that crap. Capitalism varies greatly but there is one defining and common feature, Private ownership of property, business and the right to enterprise. Capitalism is not about teh money grubbing fat cats, its about the private enterprise and the right to own ones lively hood. It seems that Sampson was under the false assumption that the UAWC was under an oppressive government, and that the Union citizenry was not Communist by choice.
