Firewind Military Command Bunker, 0602 hours

"It's time to end Gilneas." Stated General Ilmar. "The other nations have already declared war. The plan is go." Jarm nodded. "They're trying to get into the capital. They've closed transit, so we can't use a ploy like we did last time." "We don't need to get into the capital before it closes." General Grif says. "We can blast it open." "Still, in accordance with the plan," Ilmar continues, "We are assaulting Shumar and Rawai, to form a ring around the Gilnean capital." "Then let's stop debating and get to it."

Firewind territory, near the Gilnean border

The troops were preparing. Captain Caid, however, was preparing for a different task entirely. "So, when are we moving?" Andrew 'Click' Tabor asked. "Now." Replied Caid. The transport had just touched down, he saw, and began to saunter towards it. The rest of the team followed. To himself, Caid sighed. All of them except Lamber were green, and Lamber himself was barely out of the training stage. And they were going to do a mission as important as this? The commanders had to be insane. Still, he had skimmed through their profiles. All top of their class, at least. So not completely useless. Hopefully.

Two hours later, above Gilnean city of Shumar

"Bay opening in thirty seconds." The mechanical voice sounded. No need to prepare for it anyway, Caid and the team were sitting inside shells. As in, bomb shells. Disguised pods. In the experimental stage. Caid desperately hoped they worked like the scientists said, or else the entire operation would be a failure. Nothing that could be done though, Caid was wrapped tight inside.

Then Caid felt the doors opening. It rattled, screeched. Very different from what he thought. "Here we go..." He whispered to himself. And the bombs dropped, the entire eight of the team, down to the city below.

City of Shumar, Gilneas

CRASH

Caid heard it, felt it. Impact. But... not with concrete. Apparently he had gone right through the roof of a house. CRASH

The shell popped open. At last. Making a quick mental assessment of himself, he felt fine. The scientists were good on this after all. Or at least, for his pod. No idea what happened to the others. Clutching his rifle, Caid exited the house, and looked around. Lamber and Tabor were here, as well as Haust, Nabb, and Palm. The other two were missing. Caid looked around, and, yes, there was another pod, crashed through another house. Mill walked through the door a second later, looking a bit disoriented, but okay. Still no sign of the last member though. "Everyone's here that's going to be here. Let's move." Caid ordered.

The team was moving with speed. Good, Caid thought. To achieve their objective before the rest of the army showed up, they would need to move quickly and quietly, and when that wasn't an option, with lethal efficiency. Using hand signs, he ordered Tabor and Nabb to move ahead, and Haust to watch their backs. They were getting close, and no Gilnean soldiers had yet been encountered. From experience, Caid knew that everything was going too well. The city should have been swarming with Gilnean troops. And then there they were, just at the entrance to city center. Guarding the interior. "Two ahead. Take them." He spoke into his radio. Two shots. Tabor and Nabb. The two Gilneans dropped. Quick and efficient.

City Center, Shumar, Gilneas

So this is where all the troops are, thought Caid as he shot another Gilnean soldier. Guarding the city center. Nabb was injured, but still able to fight. "Quick and efficient people." Caid said, quietly. Ordering Palm and Haust to the sides, Caid, Lamber, Mill, and Tabor pushed ahead.

Ten minutes later

Crack

Tabor went down. "Cover!" Caid ordered, looking around for the sniper. There. He thought. He pointed it out to Palm, who through a grenade. Perfect aim, Caid thought. It went in, and the a boom as it went off. No more sniper. Caid regretted losing Tabor, but death was ultimately one more aspect of war. The team moved forwards.

Four minutes later

Inside the governmental center. Nabb was slowing down, but the injury wasn't serious. Still, Caid thought. "Nabb, Palm, stay here and hold the line. Haust, Lamber, clear the building. Mill, with me." Haust and Lamber moved off, Nabb and Palm took up defensive positions around the entrance. Mill looked to him. "Cee and Cee." Caid said, and moved off.

Arriving at the command and control center, Caid found half the operators already on the ground. Willing prisoners? Only to be expected of Gilneans. The Kaiser could broadcast fake messages all he wanted, the people were solidly against him. Though powerless, it seemed. The rest of the C&C operators turned, and also went and knelt on the floor. "This is easy." Caid remarked, moving to the controls. "Too easy." He muttered, upon seeing that the communications had been completely disabled. No broadcasting today, it would seem. Still, their mission had been accomplished.

Caid finally located a small secondary communications set. Connected straight to Gilneas City. Caid had other uses in mind. Tuning it, he located the mission channel. Taking the headset and putting it on, he said, "Shumar has been partially neutralized. Gilnean soldiers are still in the city, but we have captured the city command center. Bring the hive."
