It doesn't. If you want to post another stupid comment like that, maybe you should realize that it wasn't the PLANE that saved them, but the pilot, which is a whole other thing. Anyone could have done that. And the F-35 would've also been able to provide expert attacks like that.

Not only that, but you fail to realize that the A-10 is NOT lightweight, versatile, or as rugged as you think. The only rugged area is around the PILOT, which isn't that much. 30mm cannon pretty much rules out light weight. Maneuverable? Not at all. The A-10 was designed to fire bullets into tanks, while the F-35 could fire a missile at the same target, with much more accuracy, much more actual danger to the tank, and have a much better chance of destroying it, and still have time to hit ground targets with cluster bombs. And the best part? No one sees it coming. And once more, the F-35 CAN have an internal payload, AND an external payload. The F-22 and F-35 HAVE TO BE RUGGED. They go at speeds that would rip apart the A-10. Not only that, but it has to withstand the heat of the friction, as well as the stress of being flung, literally, off a carrier, as well as landing. It also has to preform well at high speed maneuvers, something the A-10 can't do.

And on the same note, it can be out fitted with Electronic Warfare, which can actually jam radar, and, among other things, make it easy to hit it's target. It can also fly at low speeds, like the A-10, and it holds more fuel, while having a more fuel efficient engine. Not to mention, then, that the F-22 and F-35 are STOL, meaning they can land on runways the A-10 couldn't, and they are, in fact, easy to operate.

It's a shame they retired the F-117, because that plane had good use.

A-10 take off range is about 300 meters not to mention it can land on a dirt road strip, AGM-65Es have never been more useful than the gun on a fighter plane either. History shows it... The A-10 has killed more targets with its gun than the F-16 with its bombs AND missiles. (Desert storm) Not to mention they tried to mount to gun of the A-10 on the F-16 guess how that worked it didn't.

The F-35 is still better. Providing hard data really doesn't help you that much. The modern fighters of this day are made for multi roles, while your silly A-10 is only made around one gun, which, by the way, is way too expensive, and in itself weighs much more than a gun that the F-35 needs. The A-10 also has no maneuverability above 10,000 feet, which would be crucial in other areas of battle. If the A-10 was attacked mid mission, it would die, but if the F-35 was attacked (which the enemy would have a hard time doing), it would kill both targets.

If all you want is guns guns guns, I suggest you look at WW2 tanks, as well as WW2 aircraft, because that's where the A-10 would've had it's mark. The F-16, F-22, and F-35 don't need a stupidly large main gun to do it's job. It can just point and aim with it's missiles, and it's instantly more accurate. And it still can strafe, with damn good efficiency. You're forgetting that the F-16 was rarely deployed against ground targets because it was working on keeping your A-10 able to fly by destroying air targets, so good luck trying to incorporate that skewed data.

The Maximum takeoff weight means how much PAYLOAD IT CAN HAVE ON IT. It's not that heavier than an A-10 empty, but it can fly faster and better. BTW, you've got the wrong data. The A-10 Thunderbolt II flies, get this: 800 miles range. From wikipedia. Note the low range, speed, and combat radius.

And here's the F-35. Note the longer range, the bigger payload, and the better speed. Now, it's only been tested at Mach 1.61, but it's much different than it's cousin, the F-22, which was, coincidentally, around Mach 2.2? Anyway, check it out:

It can also mount electronic warfare, as well as external fuel tanks.

So, good day, sir.

Edit: Note how the F-35 is under developmental stages, so your argument is really invalid. I could put the F-22 in here, and my argument would still win out.

I'm seriously doubting that record considering that the T-38 has shitty avionics and a crappy radar, which kind of calls into the accuracy of the entire list and its sources.

Seen the video. Might I remind you this was in WVR, in evasive maneuver training during Red Flag.

Not to mention we have no way of verifying if this HUD footage was retrieved from a T-38 other than the title.

HUDs are usually standardized on USAF, USN, and RCAF aircraft.

This could be an F-15 aggressor for all we know.
