Also, sorry for not writing my post earlier, but I'll write some of it ( maybe not all) tonight.

Just a note- Ren Li-Mei is almost impossible not to like, because she's usually really, really nice to everyone and she looks so sweet and frail and elderly.
But she will be perfectly happy to just be like "meh" and walk away and tell Supreme Command they might have to account for a quarter million more casualties or whatever if she doesn't think she's going to get a fair deal.

Macedonian Grand Empire wrote:Senkaku you really do not know the logistics needed to build a large factory. Trust me I know what I am talking.
About you not hitting factories in Russia. Do not worry the Russians will bring them down to the ground including the foundations. Russians are famous for their scorched earth policy in wars.
Oh and mentioning to the Europeans being considered Barbarians will not help you with either Blair or Jovana.

1. *about* Look, I'm trying to stress a point, and it's that the Chinese have tons of dedicated laborers they will not hesitate to abuse or even kill if their goals require it. I felt like having the factories and death camps be built so quickly would emphasize this. I know it's not entirely realistic, but the China I've made isn't either- none of this really is, if you think about it. I've already posted about rapid and large-scale construction, I'm not going to edit it, because if they had thought they couldn't meet the production requirements that would be necessary for Springing Dragon, the operation wouldn't have been authorized until they could.
In other words, maybe not, but I'm not entirely going to respect realism here- and it's not like I'm saying "all teh factories were built in two days" or something.
2. I'm invading Manchuria right now (my China lost Manchuria to the USSR at the end of WW2 and has never gotten it back), which has a large Chinese population who are sympathetic towards Chinese troops and China in general, so scorched earth and guerrilla warfare won't be an issue just yet. Plus, I'm not convinced the Russian Federation could do that without extremely serious backlash on the home front- certainly not RL Russia, and probably not whatever version of Russia you've come up with.
3. Li-Mei didn't call them barbarians, nor does she actually think they are, and she's officially the Minister of Barbarian Affairs- although, I will emphasize, only the Chinese call her that. To the rest of the world, she's the Minister of Foreign Affairs and her Ministry is the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. I just added the whole "waiting for barbarians" thing cuz I thought it sounded nice.

I'll try to get an IC post up tomorrow, homework allowing.

On the DEN front, I think maybe we need to ask whether any of it actually matters in the context of the RP. I mean, as long as he's not trying to claim that it's exponentially better than everyone else's stuff, does it really matter whether his tanks accelerate an APFSDS projectile by electricity or a controlled explosion?

Another example: CIWS. It's purpose is to shoot down enemy missiles. It doesn't really matter how it shoots down the missile, just that it does. Whether the CIWS uses bullets, missiles, lasers, or monkeys flinging poo, the end result is the same: a destroyed missile.

Now, if someone's trying to claim that railgun is 100 times more powerful than a regular tank gun, or that their laser CIWS can slice aircraft carriers in half, then that's a problem. But otherwise, is it really worth it to start a huge argument about something that is really just literary fluff?

At this point Padnak and DEN just need to put each other on ignore, or at least agree to only bicker in the Military Realism thread or via TG.

Although Pad, I will say, if his stuff isn't actually more effective than anyone else's, I don't see the harm in letting him write some technobabble fluff.

Actually, Senkaku... On that note...

You can use a mobile 3D printing unit, or multiple ones, to accomplish that task.

That would require a 3D printer the size of a building. Better to just use normal prefabricated buildings.

Personally, I definitely think that not only fairness, but also realism matters, at least in time periods <= MT. I love hearing about some cool piece of technology in an RP, and subsequently researching it, and there's nothing worse than finding out that it turns out it's not a thing after all. Making a slight change might not seem important as long as it stays balanced, but no two things are totally perfectly balanced. Even if a laser CIWS shot down missiles as accurately as a gattling-gun-based one, it would take vastly longer to run out of ammo, and it would both be confusing and break the immersion to read posts like: "The laser CIWS locked on and began heating the missile, in an instant the missile's hull melted and it exploded in a blinding flash of light. (Don't worry. It's got the same accuracy and reliability as a gattling-gun-based one, and if it reaches the point where a gattling-gun-bases CIWS would run out of ammo then I'll have it undergo a power failure or something). The captain instinctively looked away as the wave of heat washed over the destroyer, and then turned and barked the order to return fire."
