It was at night time tanks began rumbling through the streets, as Syrian Arab Army troops stormed the Parliament and arrest Hafez al-Assad, the perpetrator of the coup none other then Syrian General Mustafa Tlass, who walked in with cigar in his hand, in full military uniform and sun-glasses.

“Sir, we have caught Assad.”

Hafez Assad was angered and said
“Mustafa you traitor, how dare you do this.

Mustafa laughed heavily and said
“You criminal, you are being deported, no longer will the Syrian people have to live in fear of your family’s regime, you will be deported to France, I will not butcher you, because I still feel like you can repent.”

Mustafa then walked up to the podium and got in front as his troops, some of his men had cameras set up, Mustafa took off his beret and began to speak after clearing his throat.

“Attention my fellow Syrians, I have taken over in a coup, the corruption of Hafez al-Assad was dragging us to chaos.
I have many words to say, but this is the most important, Syria will be great again, as your new president I announce reforms that will benefit the Syrian people and the entire Arab League, first off we must strive to get friendly relationship with our fellow Arab neighbors and also relationship with the European and American worlds, 2nd we must strive to get back the Golan Heights from the Israelis, Golan Heights belongs to Syrians not to Jews , we must take it back from the Jews via force if necessary. 3rd we must create Greater Syria, Lebanon, Jordan and Iraq should unite with Syria. Once the first goal is accomplished I will allow elections to return, the elections will be for a new military officer to become president, one who will do the rest of the goals, so the elections will be monitored by the military and only the military will be able to run for the office of presidency, I intend to return to my original role as Minister of Defence, however right now I will serve as De-Facto president.”

Mustafa Tlass then introduced new reforms, relations with the West equipped Syria with the finest of American and European weaponry, Economic reforms made Syria powerful country in the Middle East, and Syrian backed coups in Jordan and Iraq then put a new leaders in power who united Iraq and Jordan with Syria.

As Syria expands her borders, how did your nation respond to this historic time?

The Syndicate was pleased, to say the least. Though their assistance to the Tlass regime had been primarily through covert sources, their investment had at last paid off, and in a big way. Not only had the Al-Assad regime been deposed entirely, but it seemed that Mustafa had big plans for the rest of the Middle East; the progressive reforms required extensive action across the board, which meant more money for the government. The Syndicate's representative, Jericho Wulf, sent a cheerful message to the Tlass regime's leadership.

Hello there.

I represent a group that holds significant interest in seeing your regime's goals accomplished, and we'd like to offer our assistance. We are the Syndicate, a coalition of... problem solvers. If you require covert operatives, you will not find better soldiers than our unit, Wulf-Western Solutions. We also have associates in the global arms trade as well, and we can provide you materiel for a discount if you wish it. We hope you will consider utilizing our services; we can bring much to the table in terms of firepower.

Best of luck in your endeavors,

Jericho Wulf

Keiv ,Ukranian SSR
Military District HQ

"Orders from Moscow Comrade Marshal."

The commander of the Ukrainian Military District looked up from his papers, the standoff with NATO alongside their Warsaw Pact Allies was always a present thing. And now the news that Havez Al-Assad their ally in the region would be living in France with his family. The CCCP would be tasked with acting.

"Direct from the Marshal of the Union, we are to deal with the fascist problem."

At once a button was pressed on his desk and that mobilized the 250 Spetsnaz airborne that were on duty. They were to mount up immediately and then proceed to Syria.

Paris,France
Soviet Embassy to the Fifth Republic

Havez Al-Assad had arrived in Paris some time ago and now he was meeting with the Soviet Ambassador to France.

"We have to get you back."

"That we do."

The DGSE had no hand in the business of the overthrow. None the less it would be rectified.

Palace of the Workers
Rhaga, Comorostan

The convoy of official vehicles - three limousines, book-ended by two armored cars and flanked by a small fleet of jeeps overloaded with gun-toting Revolutionary Guards - moved through the streets of the Comorostani capital at the slow pace of supreme government officials, who had no one above them telling them to hurry up. Comorostani flags, flying from every vehicle, whipped back and forth in the breeze. Finally the line arrived at the gates to the national Party headquarters, which slowly parted to allow for entry. With the convoy off the streets, normal traffic could resume its breakneck pace.

As the soldiers fanned out, the contents of the limousine spilled out onto the steps of the palace. A dozen men in suits, with a brigade's worth of bodyguards, aides, and other hangers-on made their way from the driveway to the interior of the building. From there, security checkpoints sorted the wheat from the chaff until only the suits remained. More Revolutionary Guards flanked every doorway in the building - they were in the inner sanctum now.

Behind the final set of doors, the leader of the People's Republic of Comorostan sat waiting. Premier General Secretary Ali Shah looked up from the papers on the table before him as the rest of his cabinet took their seats. Some he acknowledged with a greeting, and others he did not even seem to notice. An entire volume of political intrigue played out in those few moments as it was made clear to all the assembled ministers who was in favor, and who had best watch their backs.

"Comrades." As Shah spoke, aides handed each minister a packet containing the situation briefing, as well as any individual notations or orders from Shah. Some packets were more lengthy than others. "A coup in Syria requires our attention. Al-Assad, while not a true revolutionary, was a useful asset. That asset has now become compromised. This new leadership, this...Tlass, threatens the very delicate alignment of actors that we have worked to create. Our position in relation to our fellow socialists to the north, as well as our ability to project distance between ourselves and the Western enemy, has now become compromised."

Since the revolution, which had toppled a century of Western-dominated monarchy, Comorostani policy had been focused on two mutually interlocking objectives: maintaining independence from Soviet domination and dissuade Western attempts at counter-revolution through the establishment of a network of client regimes throughout South Asia and the Middle East. Al-Assad's Syria had been one such regime, a critical one. The northern flank of Comorostan's buffer zone was now thrown open. This was unacceptable.

"We have intensified efforts to subvert this new regime," the Minister of Intelligence reported. "Agents in Syria have been given orders to begin selecting targets for elimination. We believe that a series of targeted removals, in rapid succession, could destabilize the new government to the point where a more properly oriented regime could come to power."

"Should intervention become necessary," the Minister of Defense picked up the conversation. "We can mobilize several second-tier divisions, including one Airborne formation and a newly-minted Guards Armored unit. Combined with mainly reservist mechanized and motorized divisions, this should be more than enough force to crush the Syrian military, especially if contributions from other allies in the region can be mobilized as well."

"On that subject," the Foreign Minister chimed in. "My staff have prepared an alternate approach."

"Go on," Shah gestured. The Foreign Minister was a new face, recently raised to the post after the unfortunate disappearance of his predecessor. What a shame those Turkestani guerrillas happened to find out which train car he was on.

"This coup has worried other leaders in the region. We believe that, rather than involve ourselves directly, we can merely supply the means for another actor to do so. Iraq has a military that, with the proper infusion of aid, would be more than capable of overpowering the Syrian forces. Especially with this change in regime weakening popular support. It would be quite easy to paint the intervention as a liberation from Western-backed military rule."

"It is a sound plan." Shah spoke, and it was done. The remainder of the meeting was spent sorting through the specifics - what to send, how much, and when. When the Foreign Minister returned to his offices, a number of high-priority phone calls and telex messages began to stream out of Rhaga towards Baghdad.

Baghdad, Iraq
The Comorostani offer was an enticing one. Saddam Hussein dreamed of uniting the Arab people, and this would be the first step on that path. Comorostani weapons would make his army the most powerful on the Arabian peninsula, with only Egypt and the hated Israelis capable of mounting a serious challenge. But he would not need his army after this - Saddam Hussein, savior of the people of Syria and defeater of the Western puppet regime, would be welcomed with open arms by his fellow Arab leaders. And then they would have no need of Comorostan.

Of course, the Comorostani agents who had slowly inserted themselves into his protection force had orders to ensure that Saddam would never live to see this dream made reality. But he didn't need to know that.

Comorostani weapons, and the personnel needed to operate them while Iraqis trained in their use, began to flood across the border. Advanced tools and machines of war that would crush this upstart Mustafa Tlass. The Iraqi airforce in particular received quite the upgrade, as did their strategic rocket force. Iraqi military forces began to mobilize near the Syrian border, particularly near the border town of Al Walid. Across the border was At Tanf, and past that the road to Damascus.

I thank you very much, the Assad regime was becoming asinine and would probably have caused a civil war at the next generation.

With regards,
General Mustafa Tlass

We are looking for French made Exocet anti-ship missiles, and perhaps American BGM-71 TOW missiles.

With regards,

Mustafa sat in his office, a phone call was received regarding Iraqi troop buildups at the Border.

He was hesitant about a possible invasion from Saddam Hussain.

He wrote an emergency letter.

Code: Select all
Dear, Comrade Saddam Hussain

Why do you amass so many troops at the border?
We know you hated Hafez, because of his Aliwite sect.
But why do you hate me? Do you distrust me?

What has driven you to gather this many troops?

In a massive response, tank divisions and the Syrian Republican Guard were being sent to the Border, several other paramilitary forces were also sent to the Border, trenches were dug, and bunkers were set up, and BM-21 Grad multiple rocket systems parked in various places. BMP-1 armoured personell carriers rolled down the streets. Outside was Colonel Malik al-Asad he spoke over the radio “Orders, sir.” Mustafa said “Fire when you are ready, if you think they threaten this nation and are making a move, they open fire.
utilize the Sarin if necessary.”
, As Malik looked at the border with his binoculars, all he could think about was Greater Syria to him Iraqis were Syrians. All of Mesopotamia and the Levant were Greater Syria.

Baghdad, Iraq
"Do not even waste your thoughts on a response," the shadowy figure said to Saddam, who was seated in his palace. Before them, Iraqi military staff prepared a great table to track the progress of the war which was about to begin. "You should have struck quickly, without giving him time to prepare. Now you must strike doubly hard."

Saddam nodded. These Comorostanis were experienced in warfare. They had driven the English and French from their lands, and then driven their own oppressors into the sea as well. Now they offered him the chance to heap glory on his armies. He would not miss this opportunity.

"Begin the invasion, as planned."

Iraqi-Syrian Border
In the light of the early morning, the war began. Not on the front lines, not immediately. First Iraq would display the power it now held, thanks to its Comorostani benefactors. Mobile launchers, moved into hardened shelters constructed for this very mission, rolled into the sun and began to deploy. At the exact same moment, several dozen long-range artillery rockets rose into the sky. Their targets were Syrian military bases, airfields, radar stations, and transportation hubs. Many of these were in or near Syrian cities. It was sad that civilians would have to enter harms way, but their sacrifices would help consecrate the new Syrian nation that Saddam would build on the ruins of this imposter. The missile bombardment contained only high-explosive, but in secret facilities, warheads with much deadlier payloads were being assembled, just in case.

As the missiles began their downward trajectory, the Iraqi Air Force entered the scene. Saddam would take a page from the playbook of the Zionists, and catch the Syrian Air Force on the ground. Dozens of warplanes crossed the Syrian border, headed for Syrian airbases and transportation hubs. Their orders were to destroy Syria's air force and wreck its ability to transport its armies - they would target bridges, train stations, refueling points, anything that could be used to help move soldiers or war machines. Comorostani manufactured MiG-25 fighters provided air cover for MiG-23 fighter-bombers making these strikes, while Tu-16 Badger bombers with more fighter cover headed to perform symbolic strikes on government buildings in major Syrian cities.

As the air campaign got underway, Iraqi artillery began to bombard Syrian positions and towns on the border. A smaller army had assembled near Al Qaim, to make a feint towards Abu Kamal and up towards Deir ez-Zor, but that was designed to draw Syrian forces away from the main assault, which would take place at the Al Walid-At Tanf border crossing and strike towards Damascus. The artillery bombardment would continue until the Air Force planes returned from their missions, and then the Iraqi Army would be unleashed.

OOC: I'm aware of the time period, don't worry; this is set before the Syndicate consolidated its holdings into a full-fledged nation, so at the moment we are coalition of arms dealers, mercenaries, and rogue intelligence agents. Still have a lot of influence, but not nearly as much as in the Millenium.

The message sent to the Syndicate was replied to shortly afterwards.

You, gentlemen, are in luck. While we are lacking the Exocet missiles due to an interruption of shipments from France, we do possess a considerable stockpile of American arms. The TOW Missiles will not be a problem, and we can provide them in short order if you can furnish us with a drop location. We can also provide, with your permission of course, a well-trained group of counter-intelligence operatives to assist in locating and terminating any moles or spies that might remain in your administration's holdings. We regret that we cannot provide much else in they way of ground support; with the Soviets soon to be gunning for you, we don't have many assets that can counter heavy armor. However, we do still have a few special operation groups that could prove quite useful in throwing a monkey wrench into the Reds' plans. In the meantime, we will begin seeking an alternate means of procuring the anti-ship missiles; if we locate a supplier, you will be the first to know.
